"Kensi, what are you doing? It's after 1 in the morning," Deeks said, making Kensi jump. She glared at him and jabbed at the top button on the thermostat. It was dark, with only the faint light of a couple energy efficient nightlights to illuminate the tiny screen. She tugged the hem of her sleeves over her palms, holding back a full body shiver.
"I'm turning the heat up. It's freezing in here," she explained as he walked over, leaning closer to read the screen.
"This is LA. And, as you've pointed out before, it never gets cold here."
"Well, it's cold tonight." He reached around her, resetting the thermostat to the previous setting, 60 degrees, and Kensi threw her hands up in the air in exasperation. "Why are you turning it back down? It's already below 40 outside.
"Yeah, and for every added degree, our heating bill goes up astronomically," he reminded her. "And this place leaks heat worse than a broken sieve." Kensi made a face at his analogy.
"That makes zero sense," she said, crossing her arms and stalking across the room in attempt to stop the shivering. "And do you really plan on not turning the heat up all year or until we have enough money to fix the installation and whatever else is wrong with our house?"
Deeks paused at that, inclining his head as he considered the suggestion, and Kensi made a noise of exasperation, leaving the room.
"Wait, Kens! Baby, don't be mad. It would only be like five days out of the year." He hurried after her and found her curled up in bed, the hood of her jacket pulled over her head. "Are you really that cold?"
"Yes." He stared down at her for a moment; she did look miserable.
"I have an idea." Stripping off his t-shirt, he slid into bed and held his arms out invitingly. Kensi gave him a derisive look.
"What, you want to snuggle now?" she asked, not budging.
"It'll conserve warmth." He edged a little closer, letting his arm rest against hers, and added, "You know you want to."
Kensi resisted for approximately 10 more seconds before she gave in, pressing the length of her body to his, and curling around him. Her skin was pretty chilly and he frowned, resting his hand on his lower back.
"This is nice," Kensi murmured a few minutes later, smiling into his shoulder.
"I'm sorry I let it get so cold," he apologized. "We can turn the heat up." Kensi's kissed his shoulder, lips pleasantly warm now.
"No, this is more fun." She kissed his neck. "And I have an even better idea for conserving warmth." In case the suggestive tone wasn't clear enough, she hooked her leg over his hip, drawing him closer.
"Ooh, you have a very dirty mind, Agent Blye," he said, settling his hands low on her hips. Kensi pushed him onto his back, straddling him.
"I feel warmer already."
