A/N: Set sometime between late in season 3 to mid-season 4.
"C'mon, Kensi," Deeks prompted, checking the door and then glancing back at Kensi. She didn't respond, busy downloading a file containing information that could seriously threaten national security of it fell into the wrong hands.
They were posing as a couple, Mr. and Mrs. Warrens, interested in switching their financial portfolio from their current company to Oak Partners Financial Group. Oak Partners was suspected of a variety of illegal activities, including selling national secrets to the highest buyer.
During their meeting, Sam and Callen had caused a "slight" distraction, which was supposed to give them enough time get the information and leave. Unfortunately, it was taking significantly longer for Eric to hack through the firewalls than they expected.
"Kens!"
"10 more seconds," she said, holding up a finger, her other hand hovering over the thumb drive inserted into the USB port.
"We don't have 10 more seconds," he whisper shouted. "I think they're coming back."
"Ok, I got it." Kensi grabbed the thumb drive and stuffed it in her purse, reaching to straighten the desk. Deeks heard raised voices and running feet quickly approaching.
"Crap! Too late." He grabbed her hand, briefly checking the door again before they both ran in the opposite direction.
"I think there's a bathroom this way," Kensi said, gesturing further down the hall
"No, they're too close, in here!" Deeks hissed, yanking at Kensi's arm, and pulling her towards a door a few feet away. She tugged back briefly, but then the sound of encroaching footsteps changed her mind. Fortunately the door was unlocked and they tumbled into near darkness. Deeks' shoulder slammed into something hard and metallic and he bit back a curse.
Based on the smell of paper products and glint of metal shelves, he guessed they were in a storage room. There was a small amount of light coming from the crack under the door, but otherwise it was pretty dim. He could just see the outline of Kensi's head.
"Great, now we're stuck in here," she whispered. Without seeing her, he knew she was almost certainly glaring at him. He heard her shuffling around in her purse and a second later her face was illuminated by the small flashlight in her phone.
"And you thought the bathroom was a better choice?" Now he didn't have to imagine her glare.
"At least we'd have more cover there."
"Yeah, but here we have weapons," he pointed out, gesturing to one of the wire shelves, which housed various office supplies. "Way better than rolls of toilet paper."
"Deeks, we have guns," Kensi reminded him derisively. "Besides, what are you planning on doing, throwing staplers and reams of paper at them?"
"Actually-" he stopped speaking suddenly as paused a few feet away. Kensi gave him a wild look right before she turned off her phone. This was not supposed to be a shoot out situation and there were way too many innocent civilians who worked throughout the office.
Grabbing Kensi's hand again, he led them behind one of the shelves, squeezing into the corner. It was tight, but they both managed to fit standing up. Well, Deeks was kind of crouched with Kensi wedged against him.
This was a terrible idea he decided a moment later when Kensi took a breath and her chest gently pressed into his. The skin tight dress Hetty had picked for her wasn't helping any; he could feel every curve distinctly through the fabric. He tried to breathe as shallowly as he could, but it was no use.
"Deeks," she whispered, sounding uncertain. In the dim light he saw her hand rise, maybe intending to push him away, but it landed on his cheek instead. They both inhaled sharply as heat sparked across his skin, more intensely than he had ever expected.
Kensi must have felt it too because her hand trembled, but she didn't move it. Almost without thinking, his hands dropped to her waist, just above her hips, reminding him of the one and only time they kissed. Then he'd barely had enough time to register what was happening before it was over.
"Deeks." This time it was barely a sigh. She tilted her head, slowly drawing his down, and he groaned slightly.
"Kens," he murmured back, not sure if it was a warning or encouragement. His nose brushed hers and he knew there must be the tiniest of spaces between their lips. Sighing again, Kensi slid her other hand up his chest, letting her fingers curl in the hair at the nape of his neck, as she tipped her head a little more.
Her lips were warm and soft, exactly the way he remembered. He dipped his head, deepening the kiss-
"Kensi, Deeks!" Eric's voice coming through their comms was loud, unexpected, and completely unwanted in the moment. Kensi pulled back immediately, stumbling into the shelf. Deeks reached to steady her, but she pulled away breathing heavily again.
"I set off a security alarm at the other side of the building. Get out now before they circle back this way," Eric told them. Deeks cleared his throat noisily, reminding himself that they had a mission which did not include making out with his partner.
"Thanks, Eric," he said, not without sarcasm. "Perfect timing."
Kensi was already darting ahead him, apparently eager to put distance between them now. As she checked to make sure the area was clear, he let out a long sigh. This was certainly not how he'd intended their second kiss to go.
