A/N: For Densimber Day 5.

"Mommy, I know what I want to give Daddy for his birthday," Caleb declared suddenly one day while they were cooking dinner. Deeks' birthday was about two weeks out and all she'd really planned were certain activities that Caleb would not be a part of.

"Ok, what were you thinking?" she asked as she stirred some seasoning into taco meat.

Usually, Caleb's presents ended up being a collection of items selected from the dollar store.

"This." He pulled a crumpled home store magazine out from behind his back with a hopeful expression.

"You want to get your dad decorations?" Kensi checked, completely confused.

"Not just any decrations." Caleb told her seriously, flipping to a wrinkled page. "Look, there's sand pictures, and seashells, and surfboards. It's all of Daddy's favorite things."

"You're right, dad does love the beach," Kensi murmured. "But I'm not really sure what dad would do with these decorations." Not deterred by her common sense, he grabbed her hand, tugging her down the hall towards Deeks' office.

"We can turn his room into a beach room." He ran into the small room and pointed above Deeks' desk and then to the magazine. "We can put this picture of a beach umbwella there and a surfboard over there. And we can put fish, seashells, and rocks by the window."

Kensi watched as Caleb went around the room, describing his plans in great detail. She could tell how much thought and care had gone into his idea. The love behind the gesture.

Turning to her with a hopeful expression, he asked,

"Can we do it, Mommy?"

Kissing the top of his head, Kensi pulled Caleb closer.

"Of course, Sweetie. I think it's a great idea," she said, hoping that Deeks wouldn't mind the alterations to his work space too much.

Deeks had barely finished the last bite of his breakfast waffles before Caleb was tugging him away from the table, overcome with excitement. He'd stayed up late with Kensi the night before, putting the finishing touches on Deeks' birthday surprise.

"C'mon, Dad, you have to see your surprise," he shouted excitedly.

"Ok, Kiddo, I'm coming," Deeks said, jogging to keep up with him. "This surprise wouldn't have anything to do with me not being allowed in my office and all the banging I heard last night, would it?"

He glanced back at Kensi with a suspicious look in his eyes, but she just shrugged innocently. She was curious to see his reaction too.

"Ok, close your eyes and don't open them until I tell you to."

Deeks played along, firmly covering his eyes under Caleb's watchful gaze. Once he was sure Deeks really couldn't see, Caleb swung the door open, and took his hand, guiding him through the doorway.

"Alright, you can open them now, Daddy," Caleb instructed. Deeks lowered his hands slowly, looking around the room.

It was hard not miss all the changes, which weren't exactly his usual style. He wandered over to his desk where they'd hung up a painting depicting a surfboard balanced against an umbrella, then touched a miniature ship carefully placed on the windowsill. Caleb had been insistent about the placement of each item.

"You did all this for me?" he asked, lowering himself onto one knee in front of Caleb.

"Uh-huh. We picked out all your favorite things. Do you like it?"

"I love it." Deeks pulled Caleb against him in a tight hug, kissing the side of his head. "It's perfect and one of the best gifts anyone has ever given me."

Caleb's lips spread with a massive smile and he went in for another hug.

"I love you, Daddy! Happy birthday!" he shouted in Deeks' ear. Looking over his shoulder, Deeks caught Kensi's eye and held out his arm in a clear offer to make it a group hug.

They cuddled in the middle of the now very blue and beach-themed office for several minutes, celebrating the man the both loved more than anything in the world.
