Chapter 6: The Right Choice

Sonic's extra regulator on his back shattered as he began returning to the broken 'Sonic' sign with Tails. Its job was complete, but his and Tails' job was just beginning.

They'd managed to find four of the Chaos Emeralds, the blue, the red, the green, and the cyan. They hadn't managed to locate the other three, but they'd stopped when a tentacle slammed down onto a pile of rings a few miles away. Tails had suggested doing a tactical retreat, which led the pair to returning back to where they'd begun.

However, when they approached the grey patch of land, which was slowly deteriorating into the same white that had been present in the aptly named White Space, they grinded to a halt. Frantically, the friends looked around. Tails shook Sonic on the shoulder, and pointed to the top of a nearby building with a sign crackling, reading out 'Goole'. One letter wasn't working properly, but that wasn't what caught their attention.

On the top of this particular building was Shadow, holding a Chaos Emerald in the palm of his left hand, looking down at the pair with a small grin. Sonic returned the smile, and jumped up the floating blocks, as Tails flew up, occasionally taking a small break on the glowing platforms. This took some time, but the pair were resilient, and eventually managed to get to the top.

"I… (pant) I… (pant) Hold on…" Sonic managed to say, before taking a few deep breaths.

"Wow. And I thought you were the fastest thing alive, faker?" asked Shadow sarcastically, raising an eyebrow. Sonic shot him a glare that could possibly have been even more damaging than the already present destruction. Possibly.

Tails asked the question that was on both of their minds. "You had the Chaos Emeralds…?"

He held up the emeralds, glinting in the last of the light that was visible. He had only two, and combined with the other four, one was still missing. The white one. Or was it grey? It wasn't easy to remember.

"What are we going to do? Without the last emerald, we can't try anything on him…" said Mickey. He pointed to the Time Blotter, who was now fully visible, and clearly closer than before. Its mouth was a ghostly shade of blue, and its hollow eyes were an emerald green. On its back hung foggy cogs, a big one on its left shoulder and two smaller ones of different sizes on the right. Its horns were massive, and the skin glew purple, drops occasionally floating off of the body. Where its body ended, smoke billowed out from under it, making it seem like it was flying. The rumbling in the clouds once again seemed to speak, but harsher and with less sympathy, if it even had any to start with. And its grin… it was worrying, and striking fear into the gang's minds. It looked like it knew something nobody else did. But did it? And if so, what?

"Not all hope is lost," said Sonic. "cos we've got a great team that can defeat this guy. And together, nothing can stop us!" Everyone cheered, even Shadow, but quieter and less enthused.

"We've beat that monster once, and we'll do it again!"
