Chapter 6:

Third person pov:

Outside of Republic city was a villa. It was made of dark sandstone with a main house a connected garage, separate guest house, rose garden, koi pond, outdoor gymnasium with a running track, and a pool.

There was a wall surrounding the villa with a long driveway leading from it to another gate and another wall surrounding the property.

Outside the villa ring was a menagerie of animals. Tigerdillos, platypus bears, and sabretooth mooselions wandering the property. The ring is fully forested and filled with prey game for them to eat.

The Villa was owned by Lao. He bought it when he stopped working for the Triple Threat triad and moved towards legit business. He bought his menagerie from a closing circus he attended sometime after buying the villa.

He loved all the animals in his menagerie, but he did have a favorite among them a giant wolf called Akio. Lao bought him at an animal auction, beating the earth queen out on the final bid.

On the terrace he was reading the paper, and having breakfast. He was wearing a black three-piece pin stripe suit with white pin stripe dress shirt, black and red paisley tie, and darker red pocket handkerchief.

Lao pov:

"The Buzzard wasps won in the final round last night." I read, folding up the paper putting it on the table.

Tia and Lee were sitting across from me eating their own breakfast.

"That reminds me Lao the pro-bending match with the new upcomers the Fire Ferrets is tonight." Tia said, looking up from his meal.

"What were the team members names again?" He asked, Looking to Lee for the answer.

"The brothers Mako, Bolin, and a guy named Hasook." Lee said, not turning his attention from his breakfast.

Mako and Bolin. I have not talked to them in years since Mako and Bolin left the triple threats. I understand they wanted to leave that life behind but they could have at least stayed in touch.

Pulling my pocket watch out, I checked the time.

"I'm having a lunch at Kwongs cuisine with Councilman Tarrlok." I said, frowning in annoyance.

"Tia, I want you to get there ahead of me and set up at a separate table near mine," looking over to him.

"Lee, you will come with me into the restaurant and sit at a nearby table."

I placed a stack of yuans on the table.

"Remember you have to dress appropriately." I said smiling.

I wetted my fingers and began to count out yuans before I placed them on the table.

"Take this, you two can order some food and drink preferably nonalcoholic." I said, listening to there groans of disappointment.

"You two should go now be back before 12 o'clock." I said, finishing off my tea.

They stood up and headed to the garage.

Time skip:

After they left, I decided to go skinny dipping in the pool.

I was floating on my back with my eyes close.

"Boss were back!" Tia yelled

Flipping over I swam to the edge of the pool and held my hand out Lee hand me a towel.

Climbing out of the pool I dried off putting my suit back on.

Looking at Tia and Lee they were both wearing three-piece suits. Tia was wearing a black base and dark green accented suit while Lee was wearing a black base and lightning blue accented suit.

They were both looking up and away from me.

"You can both look now; I didn't take you two for wimps." I said grinning

"Boss you were naked." Lee said, with blush on his cheeks.

Out of the corner of my eye Tia was still looking up and away from me.

"Tia, why are you still looking away, I am wearing pants." I said, turning to look at him fully.

"Your scar its hard to look at even though it healed." He said, looking uncomfortable even at the mention of the scar.

Reaching back between my shoulder blades. I could feel the roughness of the scar.

The scar was a souvenir from a fight with a fire bender that was apart of the Agni Kai's or that was what Lee and Tia told me since after I was struck with the lightning I went somewhere and then woke up later after a waterbender healed me. I am still fuzzy on the details.

Pulling out my pocket watch checking the time.

"We should be going." I said, putting my watch away.

Standing out front with Tia, Lee brought the car around and we left.

As we go down the drive way, I was looking into the trees seeing flashes of movement probably my fuzzy neighbors.

Time skip:

Lee parked a few blocks from the restaurant, Tia got out of the car and we waited for 10 minutes before driving up to Kwongs Cuisine.

Lee and I got out of the mobile, Lee handed the keys off to the valet.

Stepping into the restaurant, the hostess led me to a table in the middle of the restaurant.

The restaurant was semi busy, filled with many people of great influence, wealth, and fame.

Lee handed her some yauns when he sat a table behind me, looking around Tia was sat a table adjacent from mine.

I ordered the peking duck along with a jasmine tea, waiting for Tarrlok to show.

After what felt like hours, the show pony that was Tarrlok showed up finally.

He walked in slowly as if he wasn't late, he sat across from me.

"Sorry that I am late." He said with that smug smirk

"You're not, and if you wanted to have a meeting you should be on time." I said annoyed

He ordered Lo mein with silver needles tea, I let him get his meal and start eating it before starting business.

"What was it you wanted to discuss?" I asked, eating the last of mine peking duck.

"You've heard the avatar is now here in Republic city." He said

Sipping my jasmine tea, "Yes, I met her, she seems quick to annoyance." I said

"What do you know about the Equalist Movement?" He asked

"Annoying speeches about how benders are oppressing the none benders, and are the cause of all woes in the world. I agree with some of their finer points." I said, holding my cup up for a refill.

"I didn't know you listened to fanatics." Tarrlok said, giving a laugh at the end.

Placing my cup down on the table, "Tarrlok you are a pomp …."

The waitress walked up to are table, and stood next to me.

"Refill ser?" She asked

"Yes, but could you bring out a pot of jasmine tea?" I asked, giving her a small smile.

"Tarrlok, understanding others, the other elements, and the other nations, will help you become whole. You get my meaning?"

"I understand, you read the writings of general Iroh?" He asked with a look of surprise written across his face.

"In a way yes and no." I said, smirking at him.

"I don't think you would ask for this meeting to discuss the daily gossip of Republic city?"

The one thing that never changes about Tarrlok is that he always has an angle and is never straight forward with what he wants in the end.

"We both have an interest in the stability of Republic city, we can help each other." He said, focusing on his meal.

The waitress soon came back with the pot of jasmine tea on a wood tray and placed it on the table, I handed her a tip.

Refilling my cup, "That is true but the same could be said about the police, and your fellow councilors," sipping from my cup.

"Yes, but unlike them your flexible when it comes to the word of law." He said, looking me in the eye.

"Theoretically if I was to say yes to this deal, what would it entail?" I asked, placing my cup onto the table.

"Payment and a favor at request, after services rendered." He said, watching me closely.

Finishing off the pot of tea, "I think have to say no thank you." I said, leaning back in my chair.

"You will regret this." He said, standing up abruptly.

He then stomped out of the restaurant.

"I probably will, but not right now." I said, loud enough for him to hear.

"Check please." I called out; the waitress came forward.

I handed her the payment along with a tip.

Standing up from my chair, "Time to go." I said, walking out to the front.

The valet brought the mobile around, Lee climbed into the driver seat, Tia opened the back door for me to climb in.

He came in after me, Lee drives back to the estate.

Going up to my room, I took off my suit placing it in the laundry basket.

I went to sleep since I will need it for later.

Time skip:

I decided to not wear a suit for the pro-bending match, I was wearing a dark emerald green shirt, brown leather jacket, black pants, and black shoes.

I was in a private box with Tia and Lee sitting behind me.

"Boss, do you want some fire flakes?" Lee asked, holding out a container of them.

Shaking my head, "No, but thanks."

"Which team are we here to watch again?" Tia asked

"The Fire Ferrets and the…. Golden Temple Tigerdillos", snapping my fingers at remembering the name.

"Unlike the other teams the Fire Ferrets don't have a long ass name."

The match was soon to begin, the Fire Ferrets are this year's underdogs, the Golden Temple Tigerdillos are pretty much a decent team, good enough to stay in the league and have a loyal fanbase but not good enough to move up to the top.

The speakers screeched on, "Introducing the Fire ferrets!" the announcer yelled, pointing to one end of the field

The platform they were on was rising to the field, the crowd roared as they rose, the Ferrets waved to the crowd.

"The rookie came from out of nowhere and made it further than anyone expected this season." The announcer said, exhilaration in his voice and body.

The Fire Ferrets stepped on to the field.

"But tonight, they face their toughest test yet folks."

He says that for every team the Fire Ferrets face off against.

The Golden Temple Tigerdillos stepped onto the field

After that I started to zone out after the bell rang, because you don't really need to be genius to know the outcome of this match.

"You two stay here, I'm going to walk about." I ordered, leaving the private box.

"Ok, boss." Tia said, waving to me absent mindedly, his focus only on the match.

Lee was busy eating his fire flakes and focused on the game.

Wandering around the lower levels where the gym and locker rooms were located, until I spotted something interesting, it was the avatar in the locker room.

Walking into the locker room, "Hey, Korra." I said smiling

She turned from the railing, "What are you doing here?" She said, annoyance already in her voice

"Checking out the competition." I said, leaning on the railing with one arm.

"You're a pro-bender?" She asked

I don't know why but I found that funny.

"No, I own a team." I said, watching the game

Soon two of the Fire Ferrets fell in to the water, it looked like Hasook and Bolin were the first to go in this round.

Stepping away from the railing, so I could not be seen by them.

A couple seconds later, Mako knocked the other team into the water.

Bolin leaped into the locker room, "Woohoo, yes! One more win and we're in the championship tournament." He said, calming down.

"So, what'd you think Korra?" He asked, taking his helmet off.

"Bolin's got some moves, huh?" He asked

"What did I think?" She asked, grabbing Bolin roughly.

"What did I think?" She asked, shoving Bolin away.

"It was amazing!" She yelled

"There's this other guy here." She said, pointing over to where I was

"Hello Bolin how's it?" I asked, waving at him

Mako and Hasook walked in arguing, I decided to make my presence known to them.

"You did more harm than good out there. You almost cost us the match." Mako said angry

"We won, didn't we?" Hasook said, taking off his helmet.

"Barely." Mako said

"I knew you guys were going to win." I said, clapping my hands.

Hasook does not say anything just walks out, throws his helmet on to the ground.

Pointing at me, "Bolin why is he here?" Mako asked exasperated.

"Lao, was already here." Bolin said, holding his hands up in defense.

"Its good to see you too, Mako." I said, giving him a toothless smile, "I can just feel all the love."

"You guys were incredible out there. Especially you, Mr. Hat Trick." She said, pointing both of her hands at him

Not even looking at her, "Oh, You're still here." Mako said

She frowned at that, "Oh, you're still a jerk."

Turning to Bolin, "Anyway, I've been immersed in bending my entire life, but I never learned how to move like that! It's like there's a whole new style here!"

Crossing her arms, "Think you could show me a few tricks?" She asked

"Ab-so-lutely!" Bolin yelled

Untying his protective gear, "Right now? Come on, Bolin." Mako said annoyed

Puts his hand besides his mouth and speaks a bit softer.

"Just ignore him." Bolin said jokingly.

"Please do ignore mister dark and brooding." I said, pointing at Mako

Putting his hand to his chin, "I'm just not sure how my earthbending would translate to your waterbending, but we'll figure it out." Bolin said

"Won't be a problem." She said smugly

"I'm actually an earthbender." She said, crossing her arms

"I got to say, you guys don't get out much." I said, grinning like the cat that ate the canary.

"Why do you say that?" Bolin asked, staring curiously at me.

"Nope, you're right. I'm a waterbender. And a firebender." She said smugly

The minute she said that I could stop laughing.

"Mm. Mm-hmm. I'm very confused right now." He said, confusion all over his face.

"You're the Avatar, and I'm an idiot." Mako said, visibly slumping.

"Both are true." She said mockingly

I took out one of my cards, wrote my address on the back of it.

Walking up to Korra, "Here's my card if your interested in a bit of business." I said, handing her the card

Walking out of the locker room, Tia and Lee were waiting in the hallway.

I headed back to the villa, while Tia and Lee headed back to their homes.

Time skip:

I was sitting in the back corner booth in the Emerald Badgermole, playing Wei Chi against myself, spinning the board around every move.

Tia and Lee have today off, but I still had guards, no matter which restaurant or business I'm at I will have a security detail.

The restaurant was busy since It was one o'clock in the afternoon, I sensed another group of customers come in nothing unusual about that, but I've learned to use seismic sense constantly.

By using the vibration produced by other people footsteps, breathing, and heart beat give off vibrations.

In the corner of my eye, I saw a flash of orange and tan, looking over it was a pregnant mother with three other children being sat a table near my booth.

They were wearing air nomad clothes; besides that, they didn't seem to be any different than any other customer.

Looking back to my game, after a couple minutes I sensed someone approaching my booth slowly.

Looking up it was one of the kids standing there staring me with wide curious eyes, he did not say anything just stared.

"What do want kid?" I asked, placing a piece on the board.

He took a seat across from me in the booth, "Why are your eyes different colors?" He asked, while playing with a spare Wei Chi piece.

Shrugging my shoulders, "Don't know they just are."

"What's your name kid?" I asked, looking at him.

Before he could answer, who I assumed was his mother walked up and pulling Meelo from the booth.

"Meelo, don't bother that man, sorry sir about him_." She said, hurriedly.

I cut her off there, "No need to worry, mam he wasn't bothering me." I said, stepping out from my booth

"I am the owner of this establishment, Mrs…?" I asked, holding out my hand.

"Just call me Pema, Mr…?" She said, shaking my hand.

"My name's Lao, just Lao." I answered.

"Beautiful necklace, a flying boar." She said, looking at it around my neck

"Thank you, it was a gift from my mother." I said, giving a small smile.

Soon her two daughters walked up taking a place on either side of her.

"Mom, who's this?" The taller asked, staring at me inquisitively.

"Jinora, this is Lao, he owns the restaurant." Pema responded.

"You look like grandpa Aang when he was a kid." The Shortest said, pointing up at me.

"Ikki it's rude to point." Pema said, pushing Ikki's hand down.

"I don't mind Pema, I'll let you get back to your meal." I said, sitting back into my booth

"It was nice to have met you, Lao." Pema said, walking back to her table with her kids in toe.

Meelo and Ikki both looked back at me as they walked away.

"Bye, Lao!" Meelo shouted, waving wildly at me.

"It was nice to meet you." Ikki said, giving me a small wave.

I did not say anything just waved and gave a smile.

After they sat back at their table I returned to my game against myself.

Time skip:

I was back at the pro-bending arena to watch another match between the Platypus Bears and Fire Ferrets, but this time I did not have Lee or Tia with me or any security with me.

The teams stepped to up to the center line of the field, but there was something different about the Fire Ferrets, Hasook looked like he had shrunk or is wearing too big armor.

Probably got someone new since Hasook didn't give it his all, let's see what this greenhorn can do for the Fire Ferrets.

"Looks like the Fire Ferrets have ferreted out a last-minute replacement waterbender." The announcer said

That's a horrible pun.

"Let's see if she's another diamond in the rough like the brothers from the school of hard knocks!" He yelled

Leaning forward out of my chair, "No fucking way." I said, smiling giddy.

This must be Korra since I do not think Mako and Bolin have many lady friends, and I think Korra would jump at the chance of playing in pro-bending match.

The teams got in their fighting stances, "Players! Are you ready?" Referee asked

Who I assume is Korra made the first move knocking the opposing waterbender over the side and into the drink.

She started to celebrate her victory; I could not stop laughing at she was about to be told that was a foul.

"Woohoo! Man overboard!" she yelled excitedly.

Blowing his whistle, "Fire Ferret waterbender, penalty! Move back one zone!" He yelled, pointing to Korra.

She moved back one zone while the other waterbender climbed back up from his watery fall, and returned to his original spot.

"And we're back in action after that hiccup, but I'm not so sure this replacement player knows what she's doing." The Announcer said

The game started again, she took another shot at the other team, almost instantly she got gut shot by an earth disk, forcing her to straddle the line behind her.

Blows whistle and points, "Foul! Over the line! Move back to zone three!" The referee yelled.

She moved back to the final zone of the field.

"The Platypus Bears take round one!" Announcer said, the bell rang and the Platypus bears immediately attacked.

"The Platypus Bears know a green player when they see one, and they are focusing the brunt of their bending on this poor girl!" The Announcer said.

The Platypus bears sent all they had at Korra, hoping to knock her off the field.

On the final strike, she made the mistake switching elements, blocking the final strike with two earth discs.

An explosion of dust covered the field, blocking everything from the view of the crowd.

"Wait a minute! Did that waterbender justearthbend?" The announcer yelled; disbelief thick in his voice.

The cat is out of the bag, I had wondered how long it would take before she switched elements.

Whistle was blown, "Foul! I ... think." The referee said confused.

"Did I see that right? Hold on, folks, we're just waiting for the referee's official call, but ... I-I think this replacement player could be ... no, there's no way!" The announcer yelled.

"You've gotta be kidding me!She's theAvatar, folks! Can you believe that?"

I wish I could see the faces of her guard dogs right now.

"The Avatar will be permitted to continue so long as she solely bends water!" The referee yelled.

The other team was disappointed that she was going to allowed to continue, opportunistic little bastards.

The went back to the strategy they had before, direct everything at her and hope she gets knocked off her ass.

"This girl may be the Avatar, but she's no pro-bender and the Platypus Bears are intent on exploiting that weakness!" The announcer yelled.

Korra was blocking or dodging everything they sent at her.

"They're giving her their best, and her best ain't good enough to stop it!" The announcer yelled.

Almost instantly she was stuck in the stomach by an earth disc, thrown off balance she was knocked off the field by a water blast to the head.

"Aaaaand she's in the drink." The announcer said.

That did not last very long, I got to wonder did they even explain the rules of the game to her. Every game has rules and to beat the game you must understand them better than your enemy does.

A couple minutes later, Korra was back on the field, she seemed to be reinvigorated after being knocked into the water.

Slowly but sheerly the game turned into the Fire Ferrets favor, one by one she knocked the opposing team into the water.

In already knowing who was going to be the victor, I walked out of the booth.

Heading home to end another day.
