Chapter 13
After Oscar joined the group, they learned about the Maidens, the Relics, and Salem. The group went on a shopping trip where they accidentally ran into Rosa. After fighting off Sith, they returned to the safe house, where Sun and Arslan joined them. Team RWBY saw Rosa in a vision.
Rosa was in her bed, looking up at the ceiling. She raised her hand in the air. She couldn't sleep again tonight. She knew she would crash soon if she couldn't sleep. The two or three hours before her visions were not enough. She kept seeing Maku in her nightmares.
"Rosa, I'm sorry."
But he wasn't. He planned to kill her, so he made her weak. He trained her wrong. Yes, she had stealth skills and endurance, but she couldn't win in a fight, and here that flaw became more apparent. She had spent most of her time as a Sith honing her skills and learning how to fight again. Now she was far beyond where she was as a padawan.
She still saw him there. She still saw the look he gave as she used force drain on him. She remembered seeing his face. Why did he have to haunt her even now? Why did he have to be so terrible? Why was he allowed to stay after what he did to her?
'What about what Salem is doing?' Rosa thought.
"Salem saved us from the Jedi." Umbra said.
Rosa sighed. She closed her eyes and saw Maku standing there. She shot up again.
"Rosa." Rosa turned to the mirror in the room and saw Maku there. Rosa got out of bed and glared at the mirror.
"What do you want?" Rosa asked.
"Look how far you have fallen." Maku said.
"I don't want to hear that from you." Rosa said.
"You are becoming more like me every day." Maku said. Rosa spun around and raised a finger.
"I am nothing like you." Rosa said.
"You are on the way to becoming me more fully. You can still turn back. Return to your friends." Maku said.
"Why would I listen to a monster like you?" Rosa said. Maku disappeared. Rosa looked down at her hands and started to breathe heavily.
"Why must you still haunt me?" Rosa asked herself. She went back into her bed and began to sleep. She didn't know Emerald was in the other room using her semblance on Rosa.
Rosa slept, seeing the early days at Beacon before the Sith and the Jedi revealed themselves. Those days were almost two years ago. Rosa was sitting next to her team chatting about class. She had a smile on her face as she drifted off into sleep. An undisturbed sleep.
Emerald was looking over documents the next day. The other two had left to go into the city. She sighed and knocked on Rosa's door.
Rosa opened the door wiping her eyes.
"Sleep well?" Emerald asked.
"Yeah." Rosa said. Her hair was disheveled. Her sleepwear exposed her shoulder. Rosa's head bobbed up and down.
"I was going to tell you it was time for lunch, but you look like you need a bit longer." Emerald said.
"I'll be ready soon." Rosa said. She didn't even close the door as she slid her way to the bathroom. Emerald just stood there not knowing what to say.
"Is that what five nights of no sleep does to you?" Emerald asked no one in particular.
Blake was walking in the markets at Mistral. She was with Oscar as they were looking for a bookshop owned by a Jedi. Sun told them about it as a place to get the needed parts to fix the Hologram table in the lower levels of the safehouse. The Jedi kept parts to fix their machines all around just in case.
"Do we know anything about this shop?" Oscar asked.
"Sun gave us the general area and the name. He told us that it didn't look anything out of the ordinary." Blake said.
"Okay." Oscar said. They walked together in silence. Blake looked back at Oscar for a second.
"Yes?" Oscar said.
"I just… When Qrow talked about the lower levels of the safehouse, I felt from you a sense of anger." Blake said. "Is there something wrong with that?"
"No, nothing wrong with the house. It was… That 'Friend' he was talking about is my aunt… and the way he stopped talking about her any said it wasn't for us…" Oscar's face was red.
"She was your aunt?" Blake asked.
"Yeah, Aunt Em. She also helped train me. She's basically my mother. Which is why Qrow better not have done anything with her like he was implying." Oscar said. Blake has a slight blush.
"Oh." Blake said.
"Sorry. I shouldn't have said anything." Oscar said. "It's just… I'm not going to be calling him Uncle." Oscar said.
"That was in the past." Blake said.
"I know." Oscar said.
"What styles of lightsaber combat do you know?" Blake asked. They had to stop as they hit a light. Travelers were crossing the road.
"Forms II, III, and IV. Ozpin's flash memory has done a lot of heavy lifting there. Aunt Em trained my body, and Ozpin's memories went into my muscles almost. I'm years ahead of where I should be, even with all the training I did. Oh, I also got the basics of forms I and V." Oscar said.
"Flash training?" Blake asked.
"Yeah. Ozpin's training is so strange. And my mind doesn't stop at night. It's constant training. It's kind of hard to explain. But it kind of feels like there's a dam of skills of past lives that can burst. I need my body and mind to be ready to take in the experiences." Oscar said.
The light was green, and they continued to walk.
"That must be exhausting." Blake said.
"It's kind of like doing Rosa's exercises." Oscar joked. Blake's face blanched as she remembered Rosa's endurance training. It was sadistic. But… that was the only training she excelled in while at Beacon.
"That bad, huh?" Blake said.
"My body is only sometimes tired though. I don't fully understand it, but it's like every part of me is being filled with the force. It's overwhelming." Oscar said. He looked at his hands.
"Oscar…?" Blake turned to see him.
"I'm going to have to kill Blake. I know that. But I'm afraid of that day. Even when I hurt someone, I feel that pain." Oscar said. "I feel the anger all around me. I want to be able to turn it off. I fell so many things that I just want to get rid of."
"Oscar, you can feel emotions?" Blake asked.
"Like Rosa." Oscar said.
"Do you think she knows that?" Blake asked.
"Yes. That's why she thought I replaced her." Oscar said. They stood there for a few seconds.
"We need to go Oscar." Blake said.
"Yeah… yeah, sorry." Oscar said.
"There's nothing to be sorry about. I know better than most that you can't keep those emotions inside forever." Blake said.
"I guess you do. Thanks. I didn't mean to burden you with…" Oscar started.
"Oscar, you aren't burdening us. We're your allies. We hold each other up. Like we should have with Rosa. But we can help you and bring her back." Blake said. She turned to look him in the eyes. He nodded his head and smiled.
"You're right. Thanks for reminding me." Oscar said. Blake turned back and continued onward toward the bookstore.
Jaune had Ruby, Sun, and Arslan in the lower levels of the house checking everything out. They set up the rooms and checked to make sure everything was working. Everything except for the hologram table. Arslan came to the last floor of the safehouse and saw an open crate full of Jedi robes. She shook her head.
She had a good look around at the lower levels. The lower floors were made out of marble, reminding her of the Jedi temple in Vale. They had a secret entrance in the basement, and just in case someone found the first secret entrance, they built the first two floors out of the same material as the rest of the house.
The hologram table here took up a large amount of space, but it gave enough for people to sit around or cook in a communal kitchen. The space was well-used and could easily fit a few teams down here.
Jaune came down next. He looked at the hologram table. He knew it didn't work. Sun was next down. He stepped forward and leaned on the hologram table.
"Now we just need Ruby to get here." Sun said. Ruby was down a second later. She was fixing her cape as the door opened.
"Sorry for being late." Ruby said.
"You're not late Ruby." Jaune said. Jaune put a datapad on the Hologram table and started to show the blueprints to the Haven dorms.
"We're going to need more information. Right now, people are on the lookout for the two of you. You are a higher priority than any of us. They know you are missing so the school itself has sent out a notification. They want to bring you back to take care of you silently." Jaune said.
"We know that part Jaune." Sun said.
"We know at least Rosa is here. We also know that Sith are watching in the city. These are weaker Sith so far. I'm assuming that the strong Sith are already in Haven. If you two know any more Jedi, please, we need to get them out of Haven." Jaune said.
"Jaune, I didn't even know she was a Jedi until Vytal. We would have to see them with a lightsaber or see some Jedi iconography on their clothes. Sun said.
"I suspect a few more students are Jedi, but I have no proof." Arslan said.
"We need someone who can get the Jedi out then. Do we know about the other safehouses around? Are any of them in use?" Ruby asked.
"We know five exist, but we only know that this one is a safehouse." Jaune said.
"How many Jedi do you believe are in Haven right now?" Ruby asked.
"I couldn't even begin to estimate." Sun said.
"Great." Ruby said.
Oscar looked down at the notes that Sun left them. He looked at the bookstore. It was a small building that fit in with the buildings here perfectly. It was called "Starlight Tomes". Oscar pulled out his scroll and slowly typed in Blake's number, still not being used to using scrolls. She was a street or two down checking another bookstore.
"I think I found it." Oscar said when Blake picked up.
"Yeah, this one couldn't be it." Blake said. Oscar waited for Blake who came by a few minutes later, carrying a bag with a few books.
"Blake, I don't think we were meant to shop." Oscar said.
"It's…" Blake stepped back trying to cover her face.
"What did you get? Anything good?" Oscar asked.
"I think so." Blake said. They entered the bookstore and saw shelves and shelves of books. Oscar felt Blake leave his side and move toward the romance section. Oscar shook his head.
"Hello there." An old man behind the checkout desk said when he saw Oscar. Oscar moved closer to him. The old man's face was deeply lined with age, telling a story of a life filled with experiences. A well-kept beard, streaked with gray, frames his face, giving him a scholarly look. Oscar felt Ozpin help describe the look. His eyes were piercingly intelligent, his gray-blue eyes seemed to see through people as if he could sense their true intentions. White hair covered his head and went down passed his shoulders.
"Hello. I'm looking for…" Oscar pulled the note that Sun gave them and squinted at his writing. "Wisdom that illuminates even in the darkest times." Oscar said.
"Then you've come to the right place. The light is always within reach." The store owner said. He hit a button that locked his doors and closed the shop.
"What?" Blake asked.
"You should come over here too, Young one." He said.
"Who are you?" Oscar asked.
"I am Elden Kael, but most call me old Kael, Jedi historian." Old Kael said. He looked at the two of them and waited. They didn't say anything.
"Um…" Oscar started.
"I need the passcode for what you want." Old Kael said.
"Oh, yeah… here it is…" Oscar took out the note. "Do you have any rare editions on weapon maintenance?"
"Only for those who know how to handle them. Let me check in the back." He got up and went in the back. Oscar turned to Blake who was holding three more books. Two of them were Romance novels and the last one a cookbook. Oscar raised an eyebrow seeing that one. Blake held the books closer.
"You're getting a cookbook." Oscar asked. Blake felt relieved and lowered the books back.
"Yeah… since we rotate who cooks, I wanted to make sure I could do stuff for everyone." Blake said.
"Why did you try to hide your books?" Oscar asked.
"I thought… you would judge them." Blake said.
"Why would I? They're just romance books." Oscar said.
"Yes…" Blake said, wondering if she could ever let him find out what they really were. Old Kael stepped out of the backroom and saw the books Blake was holding. He chuckled and set a box down on the table.
"Those ones are all the rage with women these days." Old Kael said. Blake started to get a blush.
"Um…"
"I don't judge." Old Kael said. He held himself back from giving advice, knowing that she didn't need it right now. Oscar grabbed the box and put it in his backpack.
"Thanks." Oscar said. Blake was about to take out some Lien for the books, but Kael just raised a hand and shook his head.
"I don't charge Jedi." Old Kael said.
Oscar and Blake made it back to the house. The others were out right now. Oscar put his backpack down and wiped some sweat away. Blake turned back to him.
"Are you okay?" Blake asked.
"Yeah, of course I am." Oscar said. Ruby came up to the main floor, cleaning her hands after clearing out a few of the rooms with the other leaders.
"You guys got the parts?" Ruby asked. Oscar was digging through his pack and handed Ruby the parts.
"I'm going to lie down. I don't know why but I'm exhausted today." Oscar said.
"Oh, yeah, okay." Ruby said. Oscar started to walk toward the stairs.
"Grab hold of Oscar. He's about to collapse." Ozpin's voice came out. "His body and mind need a lot of rest."
Oscar started to drop. Ruby handed Blake the box and used her semblance to grab hold of Oscar.
"Oscar, what's wrong?" Ruby asked. He couldn't respond back.
"I think this may be because of his training." Blake said.
"What do you mean?" Ruby asked.
"He told me that he's 'flash learning' from Ozpin's past lives. I guess his body and mind haven't been off for a while." Blake said.
"Oh, he's just exhausted himself. I get it." Ruby said. She grabbed Oscar and threw him over her shoulder.
"Ruby? Do you need a hand?" Blake asked.
"No, I'm good. I do need you to get those down to the others though." Ruby said. Blake watched as Ruby effortlessly brought Oscar upstairs.
"Just like my books…" Blake said to herself. "Wait… no, Ruby would never."
Blake took the parts down to the other team leaders.
"What happened to Ruby?" Jaune asked.
"Oscar collapsed and she's taking care of him." Blake said as she put the box on the hologram table.
"What? Is he okay?" Jaune asked.
"Yeah. He just does that apparently." Blake explained what happened.
"That doesn't make this situation better." Jaune said. He took out the parts and looked at the other two.
"Do either of you know how to fix this thing?" Jaune asked as he opened the small box of parts.
"I do." Arslan said. She used the force to grab the parts and opened one of the panels of the hologram table. Sun stood over her and watched. She turned back and gave him a questioning look.
"I wanna learn." Sun said.
"It would be easier to explain." Arslan said.
"Nah, I'd forget." Sun said. "If I watch, I can bring the memory back to mind."
Arslan put the pieces back into their places, bringing her finger back after it was pinched.
"Dammit." She said. She used the force to keep a piece in place as she put the last piece in. The table started to come to life. Arslan shut the panel and got up, tip of her finger in her mouth. She waved her hand in the air then turned to the others.
"We can contact the temple and the masters now." Arslan said. She found the controls and brought Jaune next to her.
"You are probably going to use this again." Arslan said. She showed Jaune the order of the buttons to press and how long it took to hold each one down. Sun also watched. Arslan pushed the final button, and a secure comm line went to the Vale Jedi temple. Jedi Master Plo Koon, and another Jedi, a Faunus woman, answered the call.
"I see you set up in Mistral, excellent job. Is there any information?" Plo said.
"Yes, we're being hunted down. We are unable to go back to Haven, and we probably can't leave the safehouse." Arslan said.
"I'm sorry, I don't believe we've been formally introduced Jedi Altan." Plo said.
"Thank you for remembering who I am. But we have other things to report." Arslan said. She reported everything they learned so far, with Jaune, Sun, and Blake giving any additional information. Plo brought a hand to his mask and ran his fingers down it.
"The masters here feared that the Sith took control of Haven." The woman next to Plo said.
"Knight Celeste is right. It will be difficult to get everyone out of Haven. What of your teams?" Plo asked.
"We are preparing now to get them out." Jaune said.
"We are unable to send clones, but there are some hunter teams we'll be able to send." Celeste said.
"I see. Your first task is to get your teams out. We must stop the plans of the Sith before they start. Send only your best and most stealthy teammates on this mission." Plo said.
"We understand." Jaune said.
"I will bring this all to the other masters. We will do everything we can. Trust me." Plo said. The call ended.
"What was that last part about?" Arslan asked. The others looked away from her.
"Do you know about Rosa?" Blake asked.
"Rosa Reidan, your fifth teammate?" Arslan asked.
Ruby couldn't believe Oscar was so strong in his sleep. She brought him to his room and placed him in his bed, but he grabbed her arm, and pulled her in. She knew he was asleep and had no control over himself while he did it. He said something about rolling a hay bale, but she didn't listen too hard.
Her face was burning as she was inches away from his face. He let go of her arm, and after he just hugged her. She was stuck in his arms, not knowing what to do. She tried to move, but he snuggled up against her.
"Oscar… you got to let me go. I have a meeting with the others…" Ruby said. Oscar just kept sleeping.
"You look so peaceful. Why didn't you take a break sooner? You just crashed." Ruby said. Ruby closed her eyes and put her hand up. It was a bit difficult to get it there, and she had to run her hand along his body. She realized he was very fit as she did. She got a finger on his head and focused.
Ruby felt her presence enter Oscar's head. She looked around and saw a bunch of books, with many different names. She walked along an aisle and found a singular book below an image of Ozpin. She picked it up and opened it.
"Hello, Ruby. I didn't think you'd ever get into here." Ozpin said. Ruby turned around and saw Ozpin standing there, a mug of cocoa in hand. He had his smile on his face.
"Ozpin? How can I see you?" Ruby asked.
"You're in Oscar's head. Sorry, it's so dark right now, but he deserves some rest. The pace he keeps going is too much for a body so young. But he's a sponge." Ozpin said.
"So, this is his mind?" Ruby asked.
"Yes. Normally, you wouldn't get something like this from a mind, but being… well, one of us, our minds become something more… tangible. If you knew the other versions of me, you would be seeing more. Oh, and do forgive him for the state he has put you in. He'll be very embarrassed when he wakes." Ozpin said.
"So… what is it like being dead and alive?" Ruby asked. Ozpin chuckled.
"Walk with me while we catch up, please." Ozpin said. He led Ruby down the library of past lives.
"You have all the time in the world to think Ruby. To think how you failed. How you could have done things differently. How you could have been better. But you also have time to reflect on the good things you did in life. You get to look back and see the impact you have made on the world. You get to know if your gambles paid off." Ozpin said.
"You gambled?" Ruby asked.
"I did. You were one of them, but that one has paid back with interest. Another was Rosa…" Ozpin said. Ruby looked down.
"She's lost right now… but I…" Ozpin raised a hand.
"If there is anyone more able to help Rosa, it is you. I failed her with Maku. I have only one thing left that I can do to help her. But you cannot know about it yet. Just in case." Ozpin said.
"Really?" Ruby asked more curious now.
"Yes." Ozpin said. Ruby followed Ozpin as they walked down the library. They stopped at a wall; pictures of people's faces covered the wall. Ruby recognized some of the faces, including Summer, and her own face here.
"My students. This is my legacy. That I helped all of these people. That is the legacy of Ozpin, not of Oscar. Not of any of the older lives. Out of all of this library, I want someone to know, I am most proud of you students." Ozpin said with his most serious tone. Then he smiled.
"I'm sorry Ruby, it looks like it is time for you to end your meditation." Ozpin said.
Ruby opened her eyes and saw Blake standing in the doorway. She had a massive blush on her face and covered her mouth.
"Just like my book…" Blake said.
"Wait, Blake, it's not what it looks like." Ruby said.
"Sorry for interrupting you." Blake slowly closed the door.
"Blake, please…" Ruby tried to say. She realized that she was still being held by Oscar. She brought her hand to her head.
"Dammit. I really hope Yang doesn't find out." Ruby said. Ruby knew that she had spent over an hour in Oscar's arms. Oscar let out a soft groan and opened an eye. He closed it again.
"Hello, Ruby…" Oscar mumbled out. A second later, Oscar's eyes shot open, and he saw how close he was to Ruby… and realized he was holding her. He let go and fell out of the bed. He hit his head on the floor. He brought his hand to his head.
"Ruby! I'm so sorry!" Oscar said. Blake reopened the door slightly and watched what was going on.
"I swear I was asleep. I would never do that normally! I am so sorry! Please don't be mad and hate me." Oscar said the words threatening to pile up together. Oscar looked away and saw the cracked door, with Blake watching.
"Ohmygods!" Oscar shouted.
"Oscar, calm down!" Ruby said. "Blake, stop peeping!" The door closed, but Blake was still there, looking through a keyhole.
"Please forgive me." Oscar said.
"It's okay Oscar." Ruby said. His face was redder than her cape.
"I'm sorry." Oscar said.
"You didn't mean anything by it. You were asleep. Which you still need more of." Ruby said. She got out of the bed and put a hand on his shoulder. He looked at it, but the embarrassment didn't go away.
"Please don't tell Yang. I don't think she'd let me live or live it down." Oscar said.
"She wouldn't kill you." Ruby said. "I think." Ruby mumbled.
"Just like in my books." Blake mumbled to herself.
"Did you hurt yourself when you fell?" Ruby asked.
"My head is doing just fine." Oscar said.
"Good. You should really get back to sleep." Ruby said.
"I'll try…" Oscar said. His face was still red. "I am so sorry."
"It's okay." Ruby said. She got up and rushed to the door. She opened it and saw Blake crouched down. Blake fell backward and looked up at Ruby.
"Hey… Ruby." Blake said.
"You know better." Ruby said. Ruby grabbed Blake by the arm and dragged her off.
"You like warm places… a good thing to note." Ozpin said.
"Is that why I grabbed her in my sleep?" Oscar asked.
"Perhaps."
Ruby saw Jaune as they were creating a plan to rescue the teams. Blake and Ren were going.
"Shouldn't we send someone else?" Ruby asked.
"We need to be stealthy and can't risk too many of us going. I'm hesitant to even send those two along. If we had Rosa we could have sent her along, but she's probably already there." Jaune said.
"That does take out Yang and Nora. Why not you or Weiss?" Ruby asked.
"Jaune needs to stay here to coordinate everything. Weiss' glyphs are too obvious, and she's still away." Weiss and Pyrrha were searching for more Jedi records.
"Oscar's still resting. Why not me?" Ruby asked.
"Your semblance leaves a trail of roses." Jaune said.
"And to be frank Ruby, you are too loud." Sun said.
"Fine. But why not the two of you?" Ruby asked.
"We're outside of the school to lead our teams away." Arslan said.
"I see… What can I do to help?" Ruby asked.
"I don't know. Do you think you can provide a distraction?" Jaune asked.
"Like what?" Ruby asked. Jaune pressed a few keys, then let out a noise. Arslan stepped next to him and shook her head.
"You pressed them too many times. Here." Arslan brought a hologram of Mistral up.
"Thank you." Jaune said. "This tech is slightly different from what I'm used to." Jaune pointed at a lower level of Mistral.
"We have rumors of some white fang being spotted here. Check it out." Jaune said. "Maybe that would catch the attention of the Sith. But be careful. Run away if it gets to be too much, understand?"
"Yes Jaune, I know what to do here." Ruby said.
"Sorry." Jaune said.
Ren and Blake got the mission and were getting ready. Ren saw Nora return before they left. She entered the room and smiled at him.
"You can do this Ren. This type of mission is what you were made for." Nora said as she hugged him. "Once you get back, we'll have time to ourselves. I got everything that we will need."
"I love you." Ren kissed Nora before moving to the door. He turned around and started to blush.
"What do you mean by everything we'll need?"
"I think you know already." Nora said, a blush on her face too.
"I'll make it back then." Ren said.
Ren left the room and saw Blake standing outside her door.
"Are you ready Blake?" Ren asked.
"Yeah… Ren, can you remind me to buy earplugs soon?" Blake asked.
"Yeah… Why?" Ren asked, wondering where this was coming from.
"I got really sensitive hearing in my cat ears." Blake said. She started down the stairs. Ren wondered if she'd heard them.
"Are you guys ready to leave?" Sun asked on his scroll.
"We're getting the last of our things ready. Who's getting us?" Neptune asked.
"Blake will." Sun said.
"Got it." They ended the call. Sun looked across the street to Arslan who ended her call and shook her head. They were ready for their teammates to make it out of Haven. They felt the darkness around the school.
"Something terrible has happened here since the festival." Arslan said to Sun on their scrolls. They were using the team speak mode.
"We need to keep our guard up." Blake and Ren jumped over the wall and landed in Haven. They looked at each other and nodded. They both wore commlinks and earpieces that connected them to the base. Blake wore her spare black Jedi robes over her outfit, while Ren wore a dark version of his robes. They had to be careful in the moonlight. The moon wasn't that bright tonight, but that didn't allow them to be careless.
Blake moved to the dorms where team SSSN was. She felt Sith patrolling the grounds. She saw the buildings all around her and she looked around as she saw… Sith troops? Walking along the patrol routes. She made sure the blaster pistol was within reach. She felt her lightsaber on her belt. She saw an opening and took it. She rushed forward and rolled behind a bush. A single figure walked by. She saw a lightsaber on their belt as they walked.
"What?" The Sith said. Her voice was the only noise in the night air. She rushed away toward the southern entrance. Ruby must have started her distraction mission.
Blake moved toward the dorms, avoiding another patrol.
"We got Jedi spotted in Mistral. We're going." The leader of the patrol said.
"Blake, are you able to take them out quietly?" Jaune asked.
"I don't think so." Blake whispered.
"Then we'll send in the backup." Jaune said.
"Backup?" Blake asked.
"We just got team NIGT" Jaune said.
"The stealth team from Hellio?" Blake asked.
"Same one. Don't worry about them." Jaune said. Blake looked up and saw the five troops were all dead. She opened her eyes wide. She felt rather than saw the outline of one of the hunters, holding her executioner's sword.
"Go, we'll handle this stuff." She said.
Blake continued onward.
Rosa was up once more. She slept too much today. She got out of bed and got changed. She decided to put on her Sith armor and took both of her lightsabers. She looked at the daggers sitting on her desk and decided to leave them.
"I won't need them. It's just a stroll." Rosa said as she left her dorm through her window. She landed without a noise. She noticed that there were fewer guards tonight than normal. She brought up her scroll and saw that a Jedi was spotted in the lower levels. She hoped it wasn't her team, but she didn't know.
"Dammit." She said.
Ruby created trouble. She had found a white fang member trying to rob a dust store.
"Didn't you guys stop with Dust?" Ruby asked. He spun around and fired at her. She took out her lightsabers and blocked the strikes. The white fang member pulled out his scroll.
"I found a Jedi!" Ruby jumped up and kicked him, knocking him out. She took out zip ties and quickly locked him to a pipe on one of the back-alley walls before turning around. She saw more White Fang troops arrive.
"You really should have just stayed home Jedi." A Sith said. They were on top of the building above Ruby. She jumped back as he slammed down into the ground. Ruby smiled as she disappeared leaving behind a trail of rose petals.
"What?" The Sith said.
"Come on. How slow can you get?" Ruby said, atop a building. Everyone looked up, and Ruby fired her blaster pistol, killing a white fang troop.
"Kill her." The Sith said. Ruby continued to block the strikes, sending some shots back.
She used her semblance again and moved back. The Sith jumped up and followed her.
"Finally." Ruby said.
Ren saw a single Sith walking patrol. He was a larger Sith with a strong build. Ren looked at his scroll. He didn't see anyone else in the area. He used his semblance to completely hide himself. He suck out from his hiding spot and grabbed his lightsaber. The Sith turned around at the last second and saw Ren there. He went for his lightsaber, but Ren had already turned his on. The yellow light ripped through the Sith's arm and went through his heart. The Sith fell.
"I got a Sith." Ren said.
"Good. That should make things easier." Jaune said. "You have to make it to the dorms."
Ren found the dorm building that housed team ABRN. He opened the front door, after quickly slicing the lock system.
"I've made it in." Ren said. He slipped into the building.
"Good. I'll tell Arslan. Make sure no one sees you." Jaune said.
"Got that." Ren said. He saw the first floor, a communal area. He kept his senses alert. He heard his heartbeat in his throat. Each step sounded so much larger than it was. He moved up to the second floor with no one in sight. He had to remind himself that it was three in the morning. He found the door and knocked on it. He looked left and right. No one was there like last time. Bolin was there first.
"Time to go." Ren said.
"Alright." Bolin turned to the others, and they left, backpacks on. They rushed out of the room and left the dorm building.
Blake found the dorm had a Sith standing out front. Blake looked around. She noticed the Sith wasn't a faunus, so she had the advantage. She created a shadow clone and moved away. She climbed up two windowsills. Blake uses the force to make a noise by her shadow clone. The Sith stepped forward and saw the clone. She raised her hand and sent out a blast of force lightning. The clone disappeared before she was cut in half by Blake.
"Why didn't she sense that one coming?" Blake asked herself.
"I did." Blake turned around and saw the Sith was still there. She rushed forward, turning on her lightsaber. She brought her lightsaber forward in a sideways arch. Blake stepped back, blocking the attack. Blake jumped in the air giving herself more room to work with. The Sith was still on her. Blake rolled to the side as a swipe singed the bottom of her robe.
Blake brought her lightsaber up to block an overhand strike. Blake brought her leg up and kicked the Sith in the side, sending her back. The Sith landed in a shrub. Blake noticed some troops were starting to move closer to her, but they all fell with Kunai in them. The Sith got back up and sent force lightning at Blake. She raised her lightsaber and blocked the force lightning. She knew it was possible to use Tutaminis to block attacks like that, but she didn't know if she was strong enough for that. The Sith stopped to block a Kunai thrown at her. Blake rushed forward and brought her lightsaber in an upward swing, thrusting her lightsaber into the Sith.
"No…" The Sith said. She dropped her lightsaber and collapsed. "Master… you promised me… power." She died.
Blake saw the hunter and watched as they moved the body.
"You need to keep moving. We're almost out of time."
"Got it." Blake said. She went back to the dorm building.
Blake quickly entered the building and got to the right door. She opened it and saw Sage there.
"We're ready to move out." He said. Everyone left the building.
"Stage one of the plan is complete." Jaune said.
Ren and Blake met back up with the two teams behind them.
"We're doing good so far. No complications." Blake said.
"Blake." Rosa said.
"Shit." Ren said.
"Get them out of here. I can handle this." Blake said.
"What are you doing?" Rosa asked. Ren led the teams away.
"Rosa, it's been a while." Blake said. She had her lightsaber in hand.
"Blake. I can't have you here." Rosa turned on her lightsabers. The green and red blades hummed in the night. Blake turned on her lightsaber and got in a defensive stance.
"You don't have to fight me, Rosa." Blake said.
"I do, Blake." Blake blocked a strike from Rosa. Rosa dragged her lightsabers along the ground leaving a mark. Blake stepped back and ended the lock. She saw Rosa was using a more open stance.
"Why are you doing this Rosa. Come with me and we'll help you." Blake said.
"It sounds like you really believe that." Rosa said.
"I do! Why don't you believe me?" Blake said.
"I don't know anymore." Rosa said. "I don't know about anything anymore."
"You do know. You know this is wrong. You know who we are." Blake said. Rosa looked up at Blake. She looked away.
"The others know you're here now. I have to fight you. Get out of here quickly." Rosa said.
"Rosa?" Blake asked.
"We'll see each other at some point…" Rosa said. She rushed forward. Blake saw the sabers coming together in an X shape and she stepped back. She jumped in the air as Rosa went passed her.
"Umbra is trying to kill me." Rosa said.
"Then Rosa let survive." Blake said. She landed and kicked Rosa in the back. She was flung back.
Blake rushed forward and jumped in the air. Rosa got up and sent a force push at her. Blake was flung further into the air. She landed on top of a roof. Rosa ran after her.
"Blake, you need to get out of there. More Sith are coming." Jaune said.
"I almost got Rosa." Blake said. Rosa jumped on the roof.
"The Sith are looking for you. They won't stop until they find where you are hiding." Rosa said. She rushed forward slashing at Blake. Her attacks were sloppy. Blake blocked the attacks and sent a force push at Rosa. She moved back.
"The Sith have no idea where we are then?" Blake asked.
"No." Rosa said.
Blake smiled at that.
"That means when you come back, we can keep you safe." Blake said. Rosa stopped at that. She lowered her head.
"You have no idea how much I want to trust you." Rosa said. "You have to leave."
"We'll be back for you." Blake said. Rosa jumped at Blake. Blake dropped down and dodged the attack. She brought her legs up and kicked Rosa in the stomach. Rosa fell on the roof and began to slide down.
"Rosa!" Blake said. Rosa grabbed hold of the edge of the roof.
"What are you still doing? Get out of here." Rosa said. Blake nodded and jumped off the roof. Rosa let go of the edge and fell to the ground. She lessened the impact with the force but still felt something.
Blake turned around and used the force to extend her jump. She got to the gates of the school.
"Good thing you got out when you did. The Sith are filling up the courtyard now." Jaune said.
"We've almost got her back." Blake said.
"Are you sure?" Jaune asked.
"Yes."
Ruby was running along the top of the buildings, being followed by the Sith who first followed her. She shook her head. The Sith didn't realize the problem. She found a building with a large flat room. She stopped and turned around, taking out both her lightsabers.
"Let's end this chase right here." Ruby said.
"Finally." The Sith said. He took out a red lightsaber and turned it on. He pointed it at Ruby while turning sideways.
"Let's finish this." Ruby said. The Sith rushed forward. He brought down his lightsaber at Ruby. She ducked under the first strike and went under his arm. She brought her lightsaber up to cut off his arm, but he spun around, blocking the strike. He pushed her back and kicked her. Ruby went rolling a few feet. She got back up and quickly and rolled out of the way of a strike. He jumped in the air and was spinning toward her.
"Don't see that too often." Ruby said. The Sith pressed a clip at his neckline, and his cape fell off.
"Once you die, Umbra will return to normal." He said.
"Who are you?" Ruby asked.
"Call me Lord Von." The Sith said.
"A lord, so mighty…" Ruby mocked.
Von rushed forward. He brought his hand forward and sent a dart at Ruby. She used the force to stop it and widened her eyes.
"That's not normal." Ruby said. Von brought his lightsaber down from his left side. Ruby rolled out of the way. She put a lightsaber away and focused. She saw that he was stronger than the average Sith they fought.
"What's wrong? Where's that cockiness from a minute ago?" Von asked.
"Nowhere." Ruby said. She saw a shatterpoint start to form on his right knee. She rushed forward being the aggressor this time. She was faster than before. She made weaker strikes at him as she circled him. He blocked the strikes.
"This won't win you anything!" Von said.
"This will." She rushed forward, activating her semblance. Von turned bringing his lightsaber in a sideways arc. She wasn't there. He looked up as a blaster bolt hit his right knee. He fell to the ground.
"Fuck!" He said.
Ruby twisted in the air and landed on the ground. She landed with her knee and hand on the ground. She stood up and held out her lightsaber to her opponent.
"I hope you don't think you won Jedi." He said. He forced himself to stand up. The shatterpoint moved to his lightsaber. She knew what she had to do. She rushed forward, using the force to move her lightsaber she spun around with one lightsaber, but she activated her second halfway through the turn. Von blocked the first attack, but he wasn't ready for the second.
The second lightsaber cut his lightsaber, and leaving a shallow cut along his abdomen. He fell backward and fell on the ground.
"You have failed Von. I am still alive." Ruby said.
"That was a cheap trick Jedi." Von said. He moved his wrist again and fire came out of it. Ruby jumped backward in the air and threw her lightsaber into his heart. She landed and used the force to get her lightsaber back.
"That should be enough." Ruby said. She moved away from the roof.
Kaiser opened a portal a minute later and saw Von, one of the other apprentices to his Sith master, dead. Kaiser stepped on Von's body.
"Looks like Mandalorian training wasn't enough to keep you alive. This fate is perfect for you." He stood up. Everything began to click.
"Umbra!" Kaiser opened a portal and ran through it. Umbra was on the ground. Kaiser looked around and felt the echoes of battle here. He checked Umbra's pulse.
"There is weakness in me." Umbra said. She sat up.
"Are you okay?" Kaiser asked.
"The Jedi found me. Blake found me." Umbra said.
"You lost to her?" Kaiser asked.
"She tricked me." Umbra said. "It wasn't a fair fight."
"You look terrible. When did you last sleep?" Kaiser asked.
"I got some today… but before that, five days?" Umbra said.
"Umbra." Kaiser said.
"Do you care?" Umbra asked.
"Umbra… Please stop acting like this." Kaiser said.
Blake made it back to the house at the same time as Ruby, who had used her semblance the entire way back.
"I talked to Rosa. I think she's close to coming back to us." Blake said.
"Good. Let's get back inside." Ruby said. They opened the door and saw everyone in the living room.
"Now we're getting crowded here." Qrow said. Sun hugged his teammates, and Arslan smiled as she heard what her teammates were telling her. Ren stepped up to Blake.
"We only got parts of what happened." Ren said.
"I'll tell everyone once we're all settled in. Probably tomorrow." Blake said. Oscar was avoiding looking at Ruby. She noticed.
"He's still embarrassed. He's probably been only thinking about that today." Ruby said.
"I forgot about it until now." Blake said.
"Yeah Blake, speaking of That I have to ask why you were watching it." Ruby asked.
"I didn't mean to I swear." Blake turned to Ruby, a blush on her face.
"What are you guys talking about?" Yang asked.
"Nothing important." Ruby said.
"Are you sure it wasn't about Oscar?" Yang asked. They both looked at her.
"He told me what happened saying sorry every few seconds." Yang said. Ruby sighed.
"At least we're all together now." Weiss said. She stepped next to Yang.
"Did you find anything?" Blake asked.
"A single lead for another miracle spot like the oasis of healing." Weiss said.
"Oh, where is it?" Blake asked.
"No clue. We just know it used to exist, and it was called something like 'Light tree'. But that's a direct translation of an old language. Maybe Ozpin knows something." Weiss said.
"Maybe." Ruby said. "But maybe not."
Author's notes: This is a shorter chapter, and it hasn't moved the plot along too much, but with so many big moves that have happened, I think we need a moment to breathe. This was a struggle to write for some reason. No idea why.
Now we have four teams in the safehouse. Rosa's mental state is starting to change.
We have had a review!
Bjlpcell- Thank you for leaving a review. Rosa is being used, and she knows it. Maybe there's been enough time for her to start thinking about the important questions.
Obviously, Weiss is going to get a chapter where she gets to talk to Rosa like the rest of her team has soon. This chapter had two needs, getting the teams, and getting Blake to talk to Rosa.
