Max's First Friend

Metroburg Elementary School

Flashback: 2008

It was 3rd grade and the students were presenting their school projects. The teacher, Miss Firestarter asked the little future superheroes to make a project on who they admire the most. Nine-year old Phoebe Thunderman was finishing her presentation about her dad, Thunder Man. "...and that's why Thunder Man, also known as my dad is my role model. He can fly very high and all over the world! He lifts super heavy things too! He would tell my brother and I about all of his stories of fighting evil villains. But he also found the time to start a family too, and I hope to be like him when I'm a superhero!"

Everybody started clapping as Phoebe smiles and takes a bow. "Good job Phoebe, you get an A+!" Her twin brother Max, just sat at his desk ignoring the claps for his perfect sister while he finishes up his project. "Max Thunderman, you're next!" After Phoebe's amazing presentation about her dad, it was expected that Max was going to do just as great.

"Ok everybody, so my project was on a different role model, he is just as famous as my dad if not bigger!" Max announced with great joy while Phoebe looked confused. She thought he was going to do his project about their mom, Electress but she thought wrong. In fact, she along with everybody else was shocked by Max's choice of role model.

"Behold! Dark Mayhem!" Max unveils his painting of Dark Mayhem with a big smile on his face. Meanwhile, all of the students and Miss Flamethrower's mouths were open and the room was just silent. "Max, the project asked for a role model, not a villain." Miss Flamethrower corrected him. "Exactly, the project didn't say that the role model had to be a superhero so I chose a villain!" Miss Flamethrower realized her instructions just let Max proceed with his project. "Dark Mayhem is the world's greatest supervillain! He's the leader of the Villain League, and everybody does what he says, no questions asked. He can fly and lift heavy things too! He can create energy and make energy balls and make force fields. Yeah, I wouldn't dare to try and stop him if he takes over the world at some point in the future. That's why Dark Mayhem is my hero!"

The class was still silent after his presentation, when suddenly a paper ball was thrown at Max and everybody started laughing at him. "I'm sorry Max, while your project was uhhh...interesting, it wasn't the type of role model I was looking for, so I'm going to have to give you a C." Miss Flamethrower says regrettably as the laughs grew louder and more paper balls were being thrown at Max. Max just stood there with tears running down his face, while he heard his classmates comment.

"Who wants to be a villain?" "Yeah, villains are weird!" "Villains are stupid, I thought he wanted to be a superhero like his sister!" "Why can't he be more like Phoebe?"

Unfortunately, all Phoebe did was just sit there and slightly chuckle. She didn't do anything to help calm her brother down and get everybody to stop.

Max couldn't take the embarrassment anymore so he flung the paper balls back at everybody with his telekinesis and ran out the room. However, in the far corner of the classroom was the only student who did not laugh at Max at all and even smiled during his presentation. A girl with a black tee, red skirt, black leggings and red converse sneakers. As Miss Flamethrower calls out for Max, she sees the girl leave the room running after him. "Samantha! Get back here, your presentation is next!"

Samantha walked all over the school looking for Max until she finally hears sobbing coming from the janitor's closet. She tries opening the door but it's unlocked, so she walks through the door and finds the little boy sitting down with a never-ending flow of tears. Max is startled for a few seconds but quickly returns to crying. Samantha tries to calm him down. "It's ok, don't cry. They're just dumb." Just as soon as she said that, Max stopped crying.

"Besides, Dark Mayhem is cool, I did my project on Lady Web! Her powers are awesome, her spider webs can trap anything. Between you and me, villains are way better than superheroes."

Max finally puts his head up to talk to the girl and his frown slowly turned into a smile, "you think so? Everybody told me it was dumb to think about supervillains."

"Nah, my older sister Selena said the same thing, everybody says she's going to be a great superhero one day."

"Oh wow, same thing with Phoebe!" Max is surprised that he's found something in common with somebody.

Samantha looks annoyed when Max mentions Phoebe's name. "I don't like her, she should've been there for you, you're her twin."

"It's ok, one day I'm going to be the best supervillain ever! Dr. Colosso is my pet bunny now so he's teaching me everything. I'll beat Phoebe then and she'll regret not helping me." Max says with a motivated but cute sinister look on his face.

"I forgot! Your dad was the one who stopped Dr. Colosso by turning him into a bunny, that's so cool that you have a villain teacher living in your house!" Max grins at the comment because she was only the person who commented positively about Dr. Colosso.

"And same! I wanna be better than my sister when I grow up but as a villain, heroes are lame!" As the little girl smiles, she puts out her right hand, "I'm Samantha by the way, Samantha Santiago."

Max gets up and grabs her hand, "Max Thunderman, nice to meet you."

"Come on, I'll force the kid sitting next to me to switch seats with you so you can sit next to me!" Samantha said to him as she walks both of them through the door and out of the janitor's closet.

"COOL! So you can walk through walls?" Max said with great awe.

"Yeah, it's nothing." Sam blushes at Max's comment. "Come on! Let's get back to class, I want you to see my presentation!

With that, Max smiled as he made his first friend, the first person who really understood him.

Please review! I haven't worked on the story in 3 years because of school, but I started rewatching The Thundermans so it gave me the motivation to finish it. There's still more to the story!
