Vector, Espio and Charmy are not ready to race at all. But they somehow manage to beat the first team they come across. Now you would think that would make them confident, but they're not. Especially since Team Sonic is next. Vector is not looking forward to getting beat by Sonic and Espio and Charmy are not looking forward to getting beat by Wave. Espio is the only one who has any confidence left and that is slowly dwindling the more and more time passes. He's the only one who did very well, with being able to disappear and all that. But other than that the Chaotix aren't in that good of shape.
The three wait in their room between Races. Espio looks for clues while Vector and Charmy slack off. Espio comes back with nothing. Which while disappointing, is suspected. Vector tries to encourage his team, while the other two don't seem to care. At least Espio pretends that he cares enough. He's not here to race really, more to assist Vector and get any clues that this is actually a scheme or something else that the Chaotix need to solve. So he keeps looking after Vector is done with his pep talk. Charmy doesn't seem to care about this race or mystery all that much. Preferring to whine about how boring it is, not for long as Vector tells them to be quiet, Charmy follows the orders.
But still, even if they could beat them, it wouldn't be easy. The first two gear up, Sonic and Vector meet in the middle, shake hands and Race. While Sonic gets an early lead, Vector comes up behind and stays ahead for a long time. Sonic can't get past him for a bit. But eventually after some time Sonic finds an opening and breezes past Vector and wins the race. To mass applause. Which the Hedgehog basks in because of course he does. Vector, not surprised, let's the hedgehog. Doesn't matter that much anyways.
Wave goes up next first against Charmy. Who again is a child, so she defeats them easily. Espio is a lot tougher however. Being able to sneak behind. Wave goes fast to avoid him, but he manages to sneak ahead a few times. But Wave still constantly takes back her stop in good time. Espio could sneak up on her any moment. She manages to win the race but is a lot more paranoid than before. Espio at least did something, even if it only made her more paranoid, he did have the best shot of winning after all.
After the three of them are knocked out and congratulate the winners they go back to base. Now to investigate what they can. They are detectives not racers after all. Espio looks around. Finding nothing particularly of interest. While Vector walks around and Charmy investigates the stands. Which is probably just the bee's excuse to watch the game without any consequences. To be fair to Charmy, they do look around for a bit before sitting down in a front empty seat (don't ask if it was empty before) to watch the races that he couldn't participate in.
Charmy watches Tails race Wave. Charmy cheers for Tails, who ends up losing. Of course. Charmy doesn't even know why they cheered for her. Doesn't matter, Wave won and she goes to claim her prize. Meanwhile Espio found something, an office. Going through paperwork, Espio finds something. A blueprint of Metal Sonic turning into E-10000B and close by many more similar prototypes all made by, of course, Eggman. Espio rushes out the door to find Vector, who's still wandering the halls. Espio stops him and shows him the paper. The two look at each other before the crackle of the announcement speaker begins and a voice comes on.
"Well isn't that nice, now as promised, your reward!" Eggman says in less of an accent than before, probably not caring anymore. The door in front of Wave opens, revealing… a hand that takes her and traps her and disappears into thin air. Charmy watches this unfold, they're flabbergasted. While Espio and Vector attempt to get outside to at least capture Metal before it does anything else that'll cause damage or assist the Doctor.
King Doc of Toreggmania pulls off his mask to reveal, who could've known, Eggman. Who laughs and laughs and laughs at all the contestants and the audience. Who are surprisingly mostly shocked at the reveal. Espio and Vector continue to rush to the outside while Charmy sneaks down and watches the scene unfold nearer than before. Eggman keeps going. Announcing everything in his typical fashion.
"Surprise! Now what are you going to do after I scanned all the bio data and took your best Racer? Who's going to stop me now?" Eggman taunts and everyone gasps, absolutely stunned. At least nobody actually knew about the bio data scans. That even surprises Espio and Vector and Charmy too. It's not like they're going to get much from them though or the other team that they won and faced off against.
"Metal!" Eggman calls and E-10000B flies up and transforms back into Metal Sonic. The Chaotix arrive too late, to see Metal fly up in the air to follow the Doctor to his place in the sky. Espio and Vector stand behind the two remaining members of team Dark. Charmy goes to them and stands next to them. Still shocked at the display in front of them. As Eggman keeps laughing and laughing and at this point it's kinda only annoying and less threatening. Especially when he keeps laughing and laughing.
"Even if you were somehow able to see through my magnificent disguise, you wouldn't have seen this coming!" Eggman laughs as Metal flies into the air and follows the Doctor who flies away. Sealing the stadium once again. Charmy attempts to fly up but he is way too late and quickly returns to the ground. Now Eggman is ready for everyone to face his new creation. The Chaotix gear up for a battle. Ready to kick Eggman in his stupid butt.
