Chapter 63: Kurt, the Ninja Masterchef

The next Monday...

"Welcome class to your first lesson in the Food and Nutrition. I am Mr Olive and I'll be teaching you the art of culinary. You'll learn all the cooking skills and how it must be done. We will have a lot of fun cooking your favourite dishes and tasting them to see how good it is! The better the dish, the better your skills are!"

The scenes shows a culinary facility in which many students are seen standing before the kitchen counters with the cooking apparatus like the oven, the mixer and the stove. Kappei, Emma, Maeve and Kurt are among the students. "In front of you is the WNA cookbook. There, we'll start with the basics, the intermidiate, the advanced and finally, the top notch recipes!" Mr Olive explained on.

"And to think this recipe book contains the recipes we had from the academy." Emma thought and she already started browsing through.

"Okay. Let's get started shall we? For today we begin with the basics. In front of you is a bowl of eggs, a bowl of chopped onions, a bowl of chopped red peppers, a bowl of chopped green peppers, cooking oil and finally, a frying pan and a spatula. We'll be cooking scrambled eggs and omelettes for this lesson." Mr Olive told the class and he showed everyone how to crack an egg. "Now crack 3 in one bowl and 5 in another bowl."

Everyone then gave it a shot as Emma cracked the egg gently with her fork and it dropped inside. "I did it!"

Beside her, "CRACK!" Several eggshells scattered around as she looked to her right to see Kappei with an egg yolk on his left eye. "You cracked it too hard did you?"

"I thought it'll be as easy as pie..." He replied as the yolk dropped and went into the bowl. Beside them, Maeve cracked her egg too soft and ended up spilling some egg white on the kitchen counter. She then saw Kurt crack his eggs swiftly and using only his hand. "How did he do that? That is advanced!"

And back to Kappei, he messed up another 3 times until the 5th time, he got it right. On the other hand as time passes, "Ah! You, young man seem to have done it with your hands only!"

"Of course Mr Olive." Kurt replied as he cracked his 8th egg and all noticed his skill level and are amazed. "Incredible! You got potential!" Mr Olive praised as he examined his class. "I can see some mess made but yes, everyone who starts learning to cook will always start it off with a messy situation. So before we move on, take a wet tablecloth and clean up your counter. It's important to keep the kitchen clean especially when you need to standby for preparations of new dishes."

It took around 5 minutes for everyone to clean their area and once done, Mr Olive demonstrated the procedure of cooking scrambled as all watched him whisk the one bowl with the 3 eggs. Once done, "A little oil will do. Like this." He first put the frying pan on the stove, turned it on and poured the oil in the frying pan and once it touched the base, he halted the pouring and dumped the whisked eggs in it. All watched as he cooked the scrambled eggs with skill and profession. During the cooking, he added a bit of salt and pepper to improve the taste and soon enough, "Voila!"

"Whoa!" Everyone can see how light and fluffy they are and thanks to the seasoning, the taste is expected to tingle everyone's taste buds. "Anyone wanna sample?" Mr Olive asked.

"I do!"

"I want to!"

"Let me have a bite!

"Slow down everyone! But I'm gonna use it for my egg sandwich for snack later." Mr Olive revealed. "In the meantime, start scrambling now on the eggs!"

All obeyed as they began cooking as Mr Olive walked around. "In case you need a hand, call for me and I'll guide you for safety is also a priority." And for the next 15 minutes, the students scrambled the eggs and the teacher helped several students in ways like how they can handle the heat, how long they need to scramble the eggs and how much seasoning to shake and every time a student finishes his dish, he will make them sample them.

On a side note, "You try mine teach."

"Very well Kurt." He sampled it and his eyes widen. "Incredible...this is the best I've tasted!" All are amazed as Mr Olive gave him the thumbs up.

Well, everyone was able to scramble their eggs decently and now, Mr Olive demonstrated on how to cook the omelette as he whisked his eggs, poured them on the pan, added the vegetables and fried them.

Everyone tried to do the cooking as their teacher walks around helping anyone in need. Yeah, same thing as, "Done!" Kurt finished first and Mr Olive sampled it. "Wow! How are you able to...I'm speechless at your skills Kurt."

Everyone sure didn't expect Kurt to whip up his dishes with mastery as Kappei, Emma and Maeve are most intrigued. Well, first cooking lesson is a good start as everyone packed their eggs in airtight containers provided by their teacher, cleaned their counters, washed the stuff used and left for their next lesson. Mr Olive then decided to prep his snack for later when, "Wait a minute...I swear I cooked them for demonstration and to have them for my snack. How did they disappear?"

It cuts to below one of the kitchen counters and Gumchi is eating them. "Yumee! Yumee!" He better eat up and catch up with Kappei.

And after school...

"Kurt!" He was seen fixing his locker as Kappei called for him.

"Yes what is it?" He asked.

"How are you so skilled in the art of culinary?" Emma asked.

"Well...I learnt from my parents at a young age." Kurt began.

"No wonder your scrambled eggs and omelette was a perfection! Even Mr Olive was marveled by your effort!" said Kappei as Gumchi popped out from his bag. "Eatee! Eatee!"

"Ha! He's hungry I see. Tell you what, we still have time so come with me." Kurt suggested.

"Oh? We're going somewhere?" Maeve asked.

"That's right!" He replied as all followed him. "It's walking distance to town so it'll take around an hour to get there."

"No problem. Walking is good exercise and I could use some of that." said Kappei as everyone laughed and left the school together.

Soon enough...

"Here it is!" The group is in town and they're standing before a restaurant. "More like, a family restaurant that belongs to your family." Maeve guessed right as Kurt gave her the thumbs up. "We moved here last year after I got assigned to the high school here. I did attend the WNA Academy in Germany."

"Cool!" said Kappei as they entered the restaurant and there inside, "Mom! Dad!"

"Kurt? Hey sport how you doing!" His father came to see him and then, his mother emerged from the kitchen as they greeted their son.

"Oh? You brought some friends I see." His mother noticed as they introduced themselves including Gumchi who surprisingly jumped out and hugged Kurt's parents. "Well, this is a rare and adorable creature!" His father exclaimed and, "Oh yes, I'm Johann and this is my wife Eva."

"Nice to meet you!" They greeted back as, "Are you guys ninjas also?" Emma asked.

"Indeed. We raised our son in the way of the shinobi and we taught him the culinary skills." said Eva. "Now tell me, what brings you here to our family restaurant?"

"Your son astonished us with his culinary skills in our first Food and Nutrition class so we're curious to know how he mastered it all like a masterchef." Kappei replied.

"Ha! Ha! Kurt's first book was cookbook and it ignited the passion in him." Johann began.

"He then started watching cooking shows on TV and in nintube and even watched us whip up the dishes at home and at restaurants where he observed so many chefs cook like pros." said Eva.

"As far as we remember, we began showing him the ropes when he's 10." Johann continued on. "And he was able to get the hang of it. Even when he's schooling in the WNA Academy in Germany, he was known to spend a lot of time in the kitchen at the cafeteria. Yup, we were from that country and we moved our business here once he received his enrollment here."

"Fascinating, since Kurt told us about it earlier on. But wait, you showed him the ropes? Where and why did you even get ropes for? They have nothing with the kitchen." said Kappei.

"That phrase means to teach or explain to someone the customary ways of doing something." Emma told her boyfriend.

"You gotta work on the english phrases and idioms because yesterday, you were a total idiot for answering all the idioms wrong." Maeve brought up as everyone laughed at Kappei and he's embarrassed about it.

Once everyone calmed down from laughing, "Say, why not you guys stay here for dinner?" Eva asked.

"Oh, um...do we need to-"

"Well Emma, since you and your peers are friends with our son, whatever you order here is on us." Johann revealed and everyone's eyes beamed in elation.

Around 6pm...

Kappei, Emma, Maeve and Gumchi watched as Kurt and his parents whipped up their order. They can see them chopping, stirring, frying and many more cooking methods demonstrated as, "Damn...Kurt must be a fast learner to do all this! I mean, we aren't touching onto those cooking methods yet in class but he already has done so outside of school!" Kappei exclaimed.

"Mmmm...and the smell of cooked food is strong for my nose." said Maeve.

"I can't wait to sample their cooking!" said Emma.

"Cookee! Cookee! Eatee! Eatee!" said Gumchi while waving his tiny hands.

And soon enough, "Behold, boneless chicken fillet with creamy mushroom sauce served with buttered rice, salad and a bowl of cream of broccoli." Kurt announced as he and his parents served them the dinner.

"What an irresistible dinner!" Everyone exclaimed as they started helping themselves with Kurt joining them and his parents went to attend to other customers that are starting to arrive for their dinner.

"Kurt, everything cooked here is top quality!" Emma complimented him.

"Man...the sauce is so creamy I can lick the entire bowl clean!" said Kappei as he helped himself to some more meat.

"Even the soup is rich!" said Maeve.

"Gumchee! Eatee! Happee!" Gumchi cheered and devoured his portion in seconds as Kurt laughed. "Second helping little buddy?" He cheered as Kurt served him some more as the 4 students mingled over dinner and dessert which is tiramisu cake and this gave Emma an idea...

Later on...

"Wow! Who would have guessed that you and your parents can cook up a nice meal for us!" Kappei exclaimed as they walked back to the dorms.

"I learnt from the best." Kurt replied.

"What if we can try something like that for the upcoming School Festival?" Emma asked.

"Yeah that could work but we need a lot of resources for that. How about we keep it simple. Like, sell hamburgers and fries." Kurt suggested.

"One of my favourite foods!" said Kappei.

"Then it's settled! The 3 of us will work on this in the upcoming event." said Emma.

"What about Maeve?" He asked.

"Actually, I'm already working on something with Chantelle and Colette. Still, thanks for the offer." She replied.

"If I may, I want Cruz and Hank to join us." Kurt suggested.

"Sure thing. Let's discuss this tomorrow and then, we'll go to the student council room to submit our proposal. I guarantee he'll accept it." said Kappei and they all look forward to it as the sun sets and they have arrived at their respective dorms to rest up.

Kurt sure has what it takes to become a great ninja and a chef. His skills will come in handy soon enough. And I'm pleased to create an OC with a passion in the art of culinary like him.

Profile

Born in Germany, Kurt has a hearty appetite and a taste of wanting to be the a professional chef. He spent most of his time reading cookbooks, watching cooking channels and observing professional chefs whip up popular cuisine in various eating places. He also engages in other activities like football.

His parents are both ninjas and chefs working in a high class restaurant and they at least bought some time to teach their son the way of the shinobi and the art of culinary. Once old enough, Kurt attended the WNA Academy in his home country and balanced himself between the training and the cooking tutorials that he learnt from the cook in the academy that somehow was fond of his passion.

After 3 years, Kurt graduated, awakened his power and was enrolled to the high school in USK with his family moving to the country and opening their own business. There, he's a member of the cuisine club and the football club in which Cruz and Hank are also members and he considers them his bros.

Awakened Power: Magnetokinesis

Kurt's awakened power enables him to manipulate magnetism. He can attract metal objects to him and repel them back causing significant damage to his opponents. When getting weapons, he can make use of the magnetism by either arming himself for battle swiftly or disarming his opponents as long as there is at least one near him.

He can also apply the magnetic polarity on individuals to attract them to him or repel them away. Useful in recalling his allies and pushing back opponents.
