Olivia prowled towards where she thought the recording tapes were stored. Will was a font of information, and she'd run out of tapes. He did not seem to stop talking once he'd started.
Running into her uncle she asked, "Where do we keep the extra tapes?"
"Over there. Why?" Her uncle asked in turn.
"So you and I can compare notes to see where Rose is wrong," she replied tartly whilst rushing for the tapes.
"The ghost is talking too, at long last," Brock exclaimed.
"You won't be able to see the interview till I type it up. Now scoot!"
Running back to her room, Olivia entered to see Orion and Will playing tug of war. It was one of the few ways the two could interact.
Upon noticing her return, he smiled slightly.
Getting to his feet Will asked, "Are you ready for the night of the sinking?"
The dog loved that rope toy. He'd be needing a new one soon.
Will smiled at Orion. Good Lord he loved that dog.
Time to bite the bullet.
"As I'm sure you're aware my night watch started at 10 PM. For the first hour and a half, everything ran smoothly. Then the lookout began ringing the bell, signaling they'd seen something. Once Moody had got to the phone I was told, "ICEBERG DEAD AHEAD!" I called out "Hard to starboard". I swung the telegraph to let the engine room know what to do. Then I just watched and prayed. Obviously, I didn't pray hard enough. Loading the lifeboats ran fairly smoothly. The trouble was convincing people to get into the bloody things. Though I had some help. Master at Arms Michael Turner, a fellow Scotsman, used his sheer size to intimidate people into the boats. The man was 6'4, built like an ox, and far more intelligent. As Lifeboat 11 was getting ready to be launched, I ordered him to take charge of it. He then said that he wasn't leaving until every boat was full. I reiterated the order and reminded him of his son, Duncan. Turner then asked, "And your wife sir?" I said, "I'll see her again. I intend to leave on the last boat. Now go Michael." He knew I was lying through my teeth, he did get into the boat finally, but turned around to give me the crispest salute I've ever received; which I returned.
After that, there wasn't much left. Myself along with Moody and some others were trying to launch Collapsible A. I waved Lights away. Then a wave hit us, I was in the water."
Only then did Will notice there were tears streaming out of Olivia's eyes.
Rose was walking on the deck of the ship. She was going to throw the Heart of the Ocean over the side as a final fuck you to Cal.
However when she went to reach for it in her pocket, it wasn't there.
"I'm pretty sure you didn't steal this."
Turning around slowly and getting off the railing, Rose saw Mr. Lovett's niece, whom she had only seen a few times.
"How'd you get it out of my pocket?"
"A little bit of help from a friend," the girl replied drily as a uniformed ghost flickered in and out of view.
"I could understand not doing anything with the necklace while your ex was alive, but after he ate a pistol at the beginning of the Depression, why not break it into pieces and sell those to help your family," she asked.
The niece's name was Olivia, Rose thought.
"Spite and wanting to do it without wealth," Rose answered.
"Spite is a powerful motivator. It's worked for me as well. My uncle wasn't joking when he said this was worth more than the Hope Diamond. Sans the curse. Imagine what it could do for your granddaughter."
Olivia handed the necklace back to her easily and left.
After leaving Rose, Olivia went looking for Will. He seemed to have disappeared.
It took some doing but she found Will on the starboard side of the ship overlooking the ocean. The glow looked normal.
Olivia thought of how he'd spoken to her of the sinking. Will trusted her now.
The full moon was out. It was almost romantic.
Idiot! Don't go there! You know he's still in love with his wife. Don't even think about it!
"Olivia, there you are. Do you think you were successful," her favorite Scotsman asked.
"Time will tell. I can only hope that implying that helping her granddaughter changes her plans. At least we'd know where to find it if Rose does toss it over the side," she replied.
Will reached out to touch her, sighing at just passing through her. "I don't think I'll ever get used to that," he groused. The glow was still mostly normal with some flickers.
"Neither will I. It sends shivers down my spine. And not in a good way."
Olivia soon noticed changes to the glow. It was getting brighter, almost consuming him.
"Will, what's going on?" She was worried.
"I have no bleedin' idea," he called back accent thick, before pausing, "I can feel the guardrail of the ship!"
"What in the hell does that mean," she asked a catch in her throat.
Will turned to her and put his hands to her face, framing it saying with joy, "I can touch you!"
Olivia moved her hands to his face. "Will you're warm." He was getting brighter by the second.
He seemed to realize something when she told him that. "Olivia, I want to thank you for everything..." he began.
"Will what's happening," she was getting a good idea, but she wanted to hear it from him.
"My unfinished business must be finished. I'm ascending."
"Is there no way you can stay," Olivia begged, fighting the tears growing in her throat.
"I've made my peace with what happened, I can go onto my final reward," Will's hands were still framing her face.
"But do you want to?" Will was starting to get blindingly bright. Olivia had to squint. At least it helped suppress her tears.
"I want to rest, it's been too long," Will gave her a soft yet burning on the mouth. "But there is a large part of me that does want to stay. I have no choice in the matter it seems."
"I love you," tears flowing out of her eyes unsuppressed.
"I know." Will shimmered away in a burst of light.
Heaven it seemed, was the ship. As it was before all hell broke loose. Will was in the company dress uniform.
"I always loved you in that uniform. Made me want to eat you alive." He knew that voice. Turning around with a smile, he saw Ada who he greeted with what would be called big damn kiss.
When they came up for air, she said, "Come along now. I have to bring you to Lights. He wants a word with you." Ada dragged him off.
Will saw many people on the way to his old friend. But Ada's walk was brisk, so he had little time to look around.
Ada stopped outside the bridge. Lights was grinning at him, looking the same as the last time they saw each other.
After hugging each other, his best friend told him, "Will you are a colossal git!"
"How am I a git? I just got here," he asked.
"You left a girl like that behind. Right after she told you she loved you! Ada, I mean no offense, but he's going to break her heart," Lights had turned towards Ada.
"No offense taken. I could tell he was happy with her," Ada had a dangerous grin.
"I didn't mean to fall- I want to be here with you Ade," Will could tell he was blushing.
"You will. In due time. William you cannot just leave her like that," Ada narrowed her eyes at him.
He was in for it.
"It's not like I can go back," he spluttered.
"Is it?" Charles asked, eyes gleaming.
Will paced for a time. He then remembered something from his first visit to Arizona.
"You mean that story, that the ghost monk told me is true?"
"It is. Padre Ignacio didn't have all of the details, but in essence, it is true." Ada clasped her hands together.
"So what do I need to do," Will asked.
"Just a few more things: Go back, apologize, kiss the hell out of Olivia, and live your life. And when the time comes, we'll all be together again."
Ada and Lights pushed him backwards softly.
A/N 2: I thought this was going to be shorter. Guess I was wrong. There will be more of Ada and Lights in the future. Looking forward to seeing what you all think! Happy Spooky Season! SSD
