Chapter 50- Arizona
I let out a breath as I meet Alex in the barn, "you want to get started or wait til tomorrow?" he asks
"might as well get started" I shrug as I hop up in the bed of the truck, we are almost done in here, the last thing left to do is put this flooring down, then the women can start what they want. "so tell me about the kid" Alex says
"not much to tell" I say "I was waiting for Callie outside the lawyers, and I saw her in the alley"
"so you just took her?"
"no" he made it sound like we kidnapped her, I shake my head "Callie talked to her, and we took her to lunch"
"where's her family?"
"I'm not sure" I shrug
"sounds like someone should call Teddy" he says opening the box the flooring came in.
"maybe" I mutter and was confused when Ali, Teddy's dog trotted into the barn, right to Jack, and they sniffed each other as if saying hello "why is she here" Alex asks.
"how the hell should I know, I've been in here with you"
"hmm" he says
"maybe Callie already called Teddy"
"probably" he says tossing another bundle of flooring down from the truck. The barn was really coming together nicely and will look amazing for our wedding. The dogs had run off together, barking, causing the dogs in the kennel to bark also. I hear Alex let out a groan it was enough for Jack, Rose and Pen to bark, but you get 8 more dogs all barking and it was enough to give you a headache. Thank god it was short lived, and I let out a sigh of relief, and it wasn't long before I heard Teddy whistle for Ali, and the 4 dogs came running back through the barn. Shaking my head "their worse than kids" Alex says.
"like we'd know" I laugh and head out the door, I see Callie motioning to me that she was going with Teddy, I saw Sofia with them, I blow her a kiss and laugh when I see her catch it and put it on her heart. Then head back in, Alex had just put down the last piece of flooring. "there" he says standing "all done"
"looks great, good job" I pat him on the back
"fuck off" he says and we both laugh
"no really" I say looking around, although to me it still looked like our dirty barn, it was coming together nicely. "thank you for everything"
"Zo" he says looking at me, in a serious tone, which we don't use too often with each other "you really don't need to thank me, after everything you and Pop have done for me" he says. I smile and wrap my arm around him "you're my brother from another mother, there is nothing I wouldn't do for you"
"ditto" he says, that's as close to a hug as we give each other, when we were younger we used to hug, but now. I laugh and shake my head "come on let's get cleaned up" he says leaving the barn, I stand in the doorway a moment and look around, in a few weeks, 3 to be exact, Callie and I will be dancing in here as wife and wife. I smile and slide the door shut, Alex had waited for me, and we walk to the house together. Once inside the house, I head to the fridge for a cold drink, seeing the date, I gasp, and turn to see Aria, who is sat at the table "Callie's birthday"
"that's coming" Aria says as she flips the page
"tomorrow"
"what?" she says reaching for her phone to see the date "it's tomorrow" she mutters, with all the wedding planning we had forgot. Well I didn't forget, I knew it was coming, but the days flew by. "mom" Aria calls and Lucia comes in "don't yell in the house"
"sorry" Aria mutters "do you know what the date is?"
"um" Lucia says, then pulls out her phone "Calliope's birthday is tomorrow"
"hmm" Aria hums
"we need to plan something" she says almost in a panic, I had a present already for her, it's been hidden away in the kennel for a few weeks now. So honestly I wasn't too worried, but Lucia seemed to be freaking out. She runs out the door, calling for my dad as she went. I laugh and turn to Aria, we both shrug and go about what we were doing. I honestly don't even think Callie remembers.
