Chapter 57- Callie
The morning is perfect, as perfect as any fall morning in Minnesota could be, the sun was shining bright, with a few puffy white clouds in the sky. There is talk of some rain later in the day but as of right now, nothing. Walking out of the hotel, I realized I had forgotten my sunglasses and was almost blinded by the sun. It's a good thing I cut myself off last night, I really didn't want to be hung over today. "urgh, too bright" Aria groans then covers her eyes.
"you're voice is too bright" Addison says, she had remembered her sunglasses.
"good morning ladies" my mom says as we approach the limo
"too loud" Aria says causing my mom to laugh
"Calliope" she says looking at me "how are you feeling?" she had partied with us for a few hours but turned in around midnight. "I'm good, just tired, I cut myself off after you left"
"good" she smiles and ushers us into the limo, and we're off to get our hair done, then it was back home to get ready. The hair and makeup didn't take as long as I thought it would, an hour or so later we are back in the limo. "I called Daniel, he's going to make sure Zo won't be around the house when we get there.
"mom, you know we can see each other" I say glaring at her, truth be told I missed my future wife. Aria had decided for us that we were to spend the night before the wedding apart, Arizona didn't protest too much, but I did. Arizona and I hadn't spent a night apart since we had gotten together.
"I know" she smiles "but this way when you see each other again it'll be like you just met"
"what?" she wasn't making sense, I shake my head
"relax Cal" Addison says and she reaches for my hand "after today, you won't have to live a day without her"
"where's Sofia?" Aria asks
"she's at the house with everyone else" mom says, thank god, I almost forgot about my hopefully soon to be daughter. Arizona and I had gone a few days ago to officially file for guardianship of her.
"so you're going with Robbins as your last name?" Addison asked, I hadn't had much time to talk with her about everything. It wasn't until my birthday I asked her to be a bridesmaid, I only needed one. Arizona had Alex as her best man, and Teddy as her other. I already had Aria as my maid of honor, so naturally Addison was my next friend. My mom and Aria had roped April Kepner, or now Avery, into being the wedding planner. They had said that her wedding was amazing and wanted her to do mine. I didn't argue, how could I? Realizing I never answered Addison I turn and say "yes" I hear her laugh. I'm assuming at how long it took me to answer, but I wasn't too sure.
"so after you adopt Sofia, she'll be Sofia Robbins?"
"Sofia Robin Robbins" Aria says, making everyone laugh.
"it'll work" I mumble
"nothing like having two of the same name" Addison laughs
"poor kid" Aria laughs
"she's actually doing really well, we got her enrolled in school, she starts on Monday"
"why Monday?" Addison asks "why not wait a week?"
"she's already been out of school for a while" my mom says "it'll do her good to get back to spending time with kids her own age"
"mommy you realize she's a teenager and not 5 right?" Aria asks
"I do, but it will still do her some good" mom says, I wasn't paying attention to where we were until I hear the tires hit the gravel I look out the window "right here" I say quietly
"what?" Aria asks I was surprised anyone heard me
"right here" I say louder pointing out the window "that's where Arizona saved me" as we look out the window you could still see some remnants of where the tornado had went through. Everyone is quiet, as we drive, until we hit the black top. I could feel the nerves start to take over "in a few hours I'm going to be married" I say quietly and feel someone take my hand, when I look over I see it was Aria. "yes" she smiles softly, that was when a weird feeling hit me. Like something was going to go wrong. "Calliope" I hear mom say, I think she could tell something was up, when I turn my attention to her she smiles "relax, everything is done, Zo isn't running, it's not raining" she goes on but I tune her out. As I see the sign for Robbins Kennel, I expect us to turn, but we keep going as the limo speeds up. "where are we going?" I ask that feeling of something going wrong, hitting me like a ton of bricks.
"I'm not sure" mom says knocking on the window to get the driver's attention, when nothing happened she knocked louder. Still no response, as we make a turn onto a gravel road, he must have been doing at least 50, as the car swayed. Making another turn we are on a blacktop now, heading back towards town. "what the hell is going on?" I ask again, I hadn't realized I had a hold of Addison's hand, when I look at her I could tell she was scared. The car then pulls onto the freeway heading north, my mom tries again to get the driver's attention, he finally rolls the window down and when I see who it is my heart stops beating. My mom looks at me, her eyes wide, knowing we were all in trouble. "George" I managed to squeak out.
"hello Calliope" he says, not taking his eyes off the road, I could see up ahead we were going to hit some traffic, no doubt because of the construction they were doing outside of Faribault. "when he slows down, open the door and jump out" Aria whispers, I reach for the door handle to be ready, but when I go to pull it, nothing happens, the bastard had the child lock in place. "George, why are you doing this?" I ask, starting to cry, he rolls the window up, and takes the next exit. I knew where he was taking us, his parents had owned a farm west of town, that's where he grew up. Very secluded, the closest neighbor was over 2 miles away. I look at my mom, who is reaching into her purse, pulling out her phone. By this time we were already in the country, and I remember, from the few times I'd been out here, cell phone service was pretty much nonexistent. She managed to get it to work, only to be cut off after the second ring. "make sure everyone's location is turned on" she says playing around with her phone and shoving it back into her purse. When the limo slows, we make a turn into a gravel driveway, looking out the window, I let out a deep sigh "I know this place"
"where are we?" Addison asks
"his parents farm" I say "and we're pretty much screwed, no cell service, and the closest neighbor is over a mile away"
"fuck" Aria says
"don't worry Zo will be looking for us" mom says
"I'm not so sure about that" I say looking at my mom
"she will, when you don't show up for the wedding" I shake my head and close my eyes "no" I say "she'll think I took off" I say, as the tears start flowing out of my eyes. We came to a stop, and the backdoor opens. "hello Calliope" George says his voice making me shiver. He looks at everyone, his eyes landing on Addison "this was almost too easy" he laughs. "all three Torres girls, and Addison Montgomery, yes this was almost too easy"
"what do you want George" my voice is cold
"you" he says staring right at me "I told you, you were mine" his voice was almost a growl. He steps back from the open door and looks around. "hmm" he hums "stay here, I'm not quite ready for you" he says slamming the door and walking away. Mom tried the door again, but nothing, the child lock was still in place. "we could try and break a window" Addison says looking around for something strong enough to break a window.
"and then do what?" Aria asks "we're not exactly in the best attire to run off into a corn field"
"that's it" mom says, reaching into her purse she pulled out a tool, "cover your eyes" she says as she hits the window. With luck it cracks "once more" she whispers and does it again, it cracks some more. "Aria, kick it out"
"how?" my sister asks, I could hear how scared she was in her voice. Mom lets out a sigh, as Addison moves, and manages to give the window a good kick. "now reach out and open the door" mom says. I take a deep breath as I watch my best friend reach her arm out the window and the door opens. "now run" mom says pushing us out of the car.
"in heals?" Aria says
"leave your fucking shoes and go barefoot, I don't care just get the fuck out of the car now" mom yells at us. I slip off my shoes, and follow the other two, out of the car. Scrunching down low so none of us could be seen. "corn field" mom says. Looking around, I prayed to god George didn't see us as we made our way across the driveway to the field. "go" mom says as we start running, barefoot through the corn. Once we were what we thought was a far enough distance away, mom stops breathing heavy. "now what?" Aria asks.
"I don't know" mom says looking around, all you could see was corn, we didn't even know which direction we were heading.
"where the fuck did you go?" we hear George yell.
"shit" mom says "nobody say anything"
"I know you're out there, I can smell you" his voice was getting closer, causing me to think that we went the wrong direction. Addison reaches for my hand, and I squeeze it tight, as our eyes lock. "we need to move" I whisper, mom nods and we move as quick as we could. When we stop again, George's voice was farther away. "did anyone manage to grab a phone?" Addison asked. My mom holds up her purse, she never lets that thing out of her sight. She digs through it, pulling out her phone "no service" she says. I nod, knowing that was going to be the outcome. "that's ok" Addison says reaching for it. She pokes around, then lets out a sigh, "we're too far away from anything" which again I knew. Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath "we're going to have to walk, at least until we find a house, or maybe someone driving on the road"
"what if he finds us" Aria asks
"then we fight" mom says. I wasn't sure what time it was, but by where the sun was in the sky, I know it was getting late, and the wedding was about to start, without a bride. I look up at the sky "please let Arizona know I didn't run, and I love her"
"she'll know" Addison says putting her hand on my back. I have to hold back the tears. This was not how I pictured today turning out.
Everything was going too good, needed to throw some drama into the mix.
