Chapter 65- Arizona
I really didn't have many people to call, Teddy and April. Who would be who Alex would be calling too. We are sat at a bench outside the front of the hospital, I had just gotten done talking to Teddy, she was all for it, which I knew she would be. Alex had called April, and even though I had my attention on what I was saying to Teddy, I could hear April squeal. I drop my 'new' phone in my lap and sit back letting out a deep sigh. Alex parrots me and turns toward me "should I" he starts to say.
"should you what?"
"my" he clears his throat "should I call my parents" now I wanted to say something like yes, or of course but what came out was "why?" I see him shrug and I shake my head "honestly, if you want them there call, if you don't then don't" when he doesn't say anything I add "when was the last time you saw them?" he doesn't answer "exactly" I say.
"you and pop are the only family I need"
"and the Torres's" I add looking up and seeing my dad and Carlos walking up to us. They both looked happy, my dad was almost smiling. "I think he said yes to the date" Alex whispers causing me to laugh, which prompts him to laugh.
"hey kids" dad says
"Pop" Alex says with a nod
"how's Aria" Carlos asks and looks around "where is Callie?"
"Aria is good, Callie's up there with her, her friends showed up" I say
"ok" Carlos nods "and Sofia?"
"Lucia took her somewhere to find coffee" I see him nod.
"so um" Alex says standing and shyly looking at Carlos "I um" he stops. Oh this is pathetic, poor boy, I contemplate coming to his rescue, but decide to let him fend for himself he finally blurts out "IaskedAriatomarryme"
"what?" Carlos asks and lets out a chuckle if I didn't know what he was saying I wouldn't have understood him either. "Alex" dad says when Alex turns his attention to him, my dad cocks his head and says "you did?"
"how the fuck did you understand that?" I ask with a chuckle
"I don't know, just did" dad shrugs
"boy, say it again and slower" Carlos says looking at him, as I watch my future father in law talk to my best friend I reflect on how far he's come. Standing next to my dad, I see he's almost got a protective stance. And I decided that I'd lay money down that dad said yes. "I asked Aria to marry me" Alex says once he's found his nonexistent balls. Carlos is quiet a moment, looks at dad, then at me, I shrug, then steps closer to Alex, pulling him in for a hug "welcome to the family"
"ah, thanks" Alex says, I can't hold back my laugh, and then realizing these two didn't know what the plans were. "we, um" I start to say, now if it were just my dad standing in front of me, I'd come right out and say it. For some reason I still get a little shy around Carlos. "we've got some news"
"oh?" dad asks looking at me, I nod "we'll tell you all about it once we are upstairs" I see dad nod and Alex and I lead them into the hospital.
