Chapter 20
Mr. Piranha doesn't know the chaos that was happening below since he and Mr. Snake were crawling through the vents to drop down balls of gases. Let's not go into detail on how that was created...
But right now, instead of hearing people gagging and the rest of the gang stealing Mira away, they heard screaming and a few cries. Something was not right. Exchanging glances with the old snake, they both knew that there might be a change in their plan.
"We have to go down there! Mira could be in danger!" Mr. Piranha shook him by the collar. Mr. Snake smacked his fin-like hands away. "Yeah, yeah, we are getting down there. I hope Rani is okay, knowing how this is a shitty family reunion for her."
This made the freshwater fish's heart hammer close to his chest. It scares him to think that both of the women suffered from people that WERE suppose to protect them. Pushing aside all of his fears, he leaped down into the chaos, much to Mr. Snake's protest. He just couldn't sit by and let Mira suffer down there!
Or Shark for that matter.
Despite having a fierce competition with Mr. Shark over Mira's heart, he was still his fin-bro nonetheless. While the restaurant was clouded with the gases bombs, he dashed his way to where he might find Mira. However, he halted when he saw the horror in front of him:
Mr. Shark was grabbing Mira's mother by the neck and was suspending her in midair. The old lady was clawing feebly at the sandpaper-like fin that was wrapped around her throat. Her tongue was jutting out while her face was going to be purple. But that was not the scariest thing that Mr. Piranha had witnessed.
All his life, he had never seen the great white shark with pure black eyes.
'Was he a black-eyed kid all this time and he never told us?!' his active imagination was stewing his blood along with the adrenaline. Despite being the wildcard of the group, Mr. Piranha dashed forward to perform a flying kick to Mr. Shark's face.
The great white shark shook his head but his grip slackened. Mira's mother dropped down to the floor, clutching her neck as she coughed violently. Well, Mr. Piranha thinks that she deserved it for what she had done to the sisters but...
"BRO, SNAP OUT OF IT!" he yelled at the top of his lungs. And he thought he had done something right, until the old lady started fighting back. Although she was smaller than the shark and taller than him, she was clawing at the shark like a caged animal that was starved for years. However, Mr. Shark threw her away with ease, only to be caught by Diane. Even Madame Governor herself was in shock at Mr. Shark's sheer power.
But he did not stop there.
Now, his new target was the withered old man who happened to be Mira and Rani's grandfather. Clearly, he had ditched his wife by trying to flee at the nearest exit while the old woman was trembling with her mouth agape.
Now Mr. Piranha was torn whether to spare the man who caused Mira so much pain or join Mr. Shark in this bloodbath-
"Wait a freakin' minute," he paused from letting the adrenaline kick him. "Blood! Oh, that bastardo is gonna pay!"
That was when Mr. Shark lunged at Mira's grandfather head-on with those void black eyes and teeth bared. He was surprised to find the grandfather not dead from the sudden impact or having his heart almost leaped out of his mouth. Mr. Piranha simply leaped onto the old man's chest and locked heads with him.
He had a few seconds before the shock could kill him. However, he was too late as a few of the old man's fingers were severed. Knowing the jaw strength of his friend, Mr. Piranha was certain that there was a bit of a conscious under those blackhole eyes. Once Mr. Shark was turning his attention to the trembling old woman, Mr. Piranha grabbed Mira's grandfather by the collar of his shirt and gripped him tight.
It doesn't matter if he could feel sinewy bones cracked like sticks under his grasp.
"Listen old man, I'm going to say this once: leave Mira alone or else I'm letting Shark do much worse than lose some of your fingers. Entender?"
He nodded weakly before Mr. Piranha jumped off of him to get the raging great white shark to calm down. Seeing a table with a few plates of delicious Chinese dishes, he had an idea. Making a mad dash to every unattended table, swiping a few plates.
Of course, he had a few egg rolls and fried mantao breads for himself!
While the rest of the guests were already out of the restaurant, only Mira's grandparents and mother were around. This gave him all of the room for what he was about to do next. While Mr. Shark was opening his mouth to bite on the old hag, the young Amazonian fish lodged a fistful of cooked fish and black pepper beef down his throat before firing a few bowls of rice.
For years, he knew Mr. Shark would spit those bowls out anytime. It doesn't matter what he threw into those jaws: seafood, chicken, beef, roast duck and even some soup. Except for the ones at Mira's family's table.
He prayed that filling Shark's belly with food would stop him from attacking. He hoped...
As for the people that caused Mira's misery, they were all backed at the corner of the restaurant. The mastermind, the master and the miserable. He almost felt sorry for them if they had not destroyed Mira's self-esteem.
Sirens wailed outside and a few of Chief Misty Luggins' squad came in to collect the shaken elders while the chief herself was holding Mr. Shark's bulky frame down in case he tries to attack. However, the rage slowly subsided when his eyes slowly turned back to normal. His mouth was still filled with food until he belched out the plates on the floor, coated with saliva. The great white shark must have been exhausted when his breathing became shallow and slumped on the floor.
"I never thought tonight would be something out of True Crime," Chief Luggins mused, taking out a pair of handcuffs to lock both of Mr. Shark's fins behind. Mr. Piranha was baffled by this sudden action. They were NOT going back on crime!
"Hey, what gives? Shark didn't do anything wrong! Didn't you see how those so-called 'families' treated Mira? He was just protecting her!"
For the first time, he saw a grim expression on the chief's face. Most of the time, she was either sarcastic or even angry but here, it was devoid of those expressions. He just couldn't get it! It made him angry that she still thinks that they're bad guys deep down.
"Sorry fish-face, there are protocols," she explained, gesturing some of her squad to carry an unconscious Mr. Shark into the van. "Although I'll admit that those guys are scumbags, Shark assaulted an elderly man. So whatever happens will be at court."
There was so much he could say but the chief added, "What you and the gang can do now is make sure Mira's in a safe place and be there for her until Judgement Day comes."
Mr. Piranha could only watch helplessly as the van drove away with his best friend. He had to ask Mr. Wolf about their next plan. For now, he needs to be there for Mira until things go back to normal.
But will it?
Yeah, some things do come with a price. In fact, I'm pretty sure Mira's mom and grandparents will have some compensation despite everything
Well, we'll see how it will go in the next chapter
