Hey babes! Back again with a new chapter for you! Got a few minutes before my class starts for the morning, so thought I'd post the new one for ya.
Enjoy!
*January 30, 2021*
Making their way through the familiar hallway lined with various photos of the different stages of pregnancy, Bellamy smiles down at Clarke when she squeezes his hand a little tighter. He knows she isn't scared, but he also knows that her nerves about being a pregnant teenager haven't completely gone away over the last few months. He's sure those nerves will be there even after the baby is born. He's feeling the nerves too, of being a teen dad, even though the kid isn't biologically his. It certainly isn't going to stop him from loving the kid, though. They'll be a part of Clarke, so how could he not love them completely and unconditionally?
And while he's scared about what's to come, he's also beyond excited. He's always envisioned himself becoming a dad one day, would picture it from time to time whenever he'd be bored enough to let his mind wander that far. He's excited about finally achieving that, even if it is in a way he never expected.
Once they reach the exam room, Bellamy steps through behind Clarke and immediately moves to the seat off to the side while Clarke heads for the exam table. He takes her things when she hands them to him and settles the coat and bag next to him on the bench. And then it's just a waiting game.
The nurse that had escorted them to the room takes some of Clarke's vitals and asks her a few questions, and Bellamy just has to sit back and wait. This isn't anything he can help with quite yet.
Soon enough, though, Clarke's OB comes in and gets everything set up for the exam, pulling the ultrasound machine closer to where Clarke is sitting.
Bellamy quickly joins the pair, standing next to Clarke's head and grabbing her hand that's closest to him. He holds it tightly as Dr. Lightbourne starts the exam and smiles at Clarke when she looks up at him.
"Okay," the doctor speaks up after a few quiet moments, "everything with baby seems to be progressing nicely. Looks like they're even posing for us a bit," she tells them with a quiet laugh. "And they're also in the perfect position to let us know who they are if that's something you both want to know."
"It is," Clarke answers without hesitation.
Bellamy just smiles as he watches Dr. Lightbourne analyze the screen. They'd already discussed at great length the two options of finding out the baby's sex now or waiting until they're born. Ultimately, they'd both decided they were too eager to find out.
So Bellamy waits with bated breath for the doctor to finish the exam. He glances down at Clarke to find her staring at the screen with furrowed brows, probably trying to see if she can figure it out herself. He just chuckles to himself and lifts their joined hands to press a kiss to the back of hers.
"Well then," the doctor says, turning to them with a smile, "if my eyes are still working right, then congratulations, it's a baby girl."
Bellamy's heart swells and his eyes instantly fill with tears. A girl. They're having a little girl. He's going to have a daughter. He and Clarke are going to have a baby girl. He doesn't think it's wrong to say that he hopes the baby looks more like Clarke than…him.
Bellamy doesn't pay much attention to Dr. Lightbourne as she speaks to Clarke, his gaze still fixed on the grainy black-and-white image on the screen. That's his little girl. She's still so small, and he hasn't even met her yet, but he knows he'd do anything for her.
He has zero doubts about it.
A soft, yet forceful nudge against his ribs yanks Bellamy out of his thoughts. He focuses back on the present, brows furrowing slightly when he realizes it's just him and Clarke in the room now, and she's dressed again, sitting up on the exam table.
"Appointment over?"
Clarke nods. "Yeah. You sort of spaced out at the end there. Everything okay?"
He nods, his lips pulling into a smile as he reaches out to rest a hand gently on her waist. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just excited. We're having a girl."
Clarke grins. "We're having a girl. I mean, I would have been just as excited if it was a boy. So long as they're healthy."
Bellamy shakes his head. "No, I get what you mean. And now that we know we're having a girl, we can finish planning out the nursery. I know it might seem like we've got plenty of time left, but the one thing all the dads in the forum always say is that the time just flies by during pregnancy."
"I still love the fact that you're in a chat room for dads. Somehow it makes you cuter."
Bellamy smiles. "Oh yeah?"
Clarke nods. "Yeah. You're gonna be such a good dad. Our little girl is very lucky to have you."
Bellamy shakes his head and steps a little closer. "No, she's lucky to have the both of us. Now should we get going? I've had my phone on silent this entire time and haven't checked it since we got here, but I'm sure at least a couple of our friends are bugging us trying to find out if Little Bean's a boy or a girl."
Clarke laughs quietly. "Think they made a bet on this too?"
He smiles as he grabs Clarke's hand in his and gently starts to guide her toward the door of the exam room. "Knowing Murphy, I'd put all my chips on 'yes'."
.
.
.
Bellamy can't keep the smile off of his face as he watches many of his and Clarke's friends and family–except for Abby–spread out around the living room of his house. Some of them are on the furniture and others on the floor (somebody's—probably Clarke or Harper's—phone is being passed around with Wells on FaceTime, and Octavia is perched right between Harper and Zoe with an excited smile), talking loudly and passionately, all of them stating their reasons behind their guesses on whether the baby's a boy or a girl.
It's amusing to see everybody so excited, and while initially, he'd been a bit annoyed when he and Clarke arrived back at the house to see all of them already there waiting, he doesn't mind it that much anymore. Having it reaffirmed that everyone is as excited as they are about the baby makes him that much happier. Mostly on Clarke's behalf.
"How much longer do you think we should let them keep going at it like this?" Clarke asks, pulling him out of his head.
He smiles at her where she sits next to him on the couch, her legs draped over his lap to get as close to him as possible. "Probably as soon as one of them threatens bodily harm."
"Murphy, I swear I will gut you like a fish," Harper's voice rings through the room half a beat later.
Bellamy sighs. "Guess that's my cue." He turns his attention to the entirety of the room, and speaks loud enough for all of them to hear, "Hey, enough."
Everyone stops arguing, though some take a bit longer than others to quiet down. They all shift in their respective spots, turning fully to face Clarke and Bellamy.
"Thank you," he says with a small nod. He takes a deep breath. "Now, I know you all want to know if the baby's a boy or a girl, but please, do not be threatening each other's lives because you can't agree." He shoots a pointed glare in Murphy's, Harper's, and Nate's directions. "You're all way too old for that."
"And we'll never tell you what we're having if you keep acting like that," Clarke interjects with a small smile. "You'll have to wait until Little Bean is born to find out."
Shouts of protest rise throughout the room, everyone seemingly needing to get their two cents in on the subject at the same time.
"Seriously?" Bellamy speaks up loud enough to be heard over the shouting, his brows shooting up. "You're all still gonna act like this? Be quiet, please."
It takes another moment, but everyone quiets down again, watching him and Clarke carefully, clearly waiting expectantly to find out the sex of the baby. He knows they've all been eager to find it out ever since Clarke told them all she was pregnant, he's been eager too. Even more so since he and Clarke officially got together.
Shifting next to Clarke, Bellamy's eyes drift over the faces of all their friends in attendance. He casts a glance at Clarke and, at her small nod, turns back to their friends with a wide smile.
"Hang on," Murphy pipes up, "let me film this." He digs his cell phone out and taps at the screen, then holds it up in front of him.
Bellamy's brows furrow slightly. "Why is Murphy the only one of our friends who wants to record this?"
Clarke sighs, shaking her head. "I don't think I want to know. Now tell them before they start threatening each other again."
Bellamy nods and then turns his attention back to the group, his smile returning in full force. "It's a girl."
The room erupts into cheering, Harper immediately standing up to pull Clarke into a hug. Everyone else is out of their seats pretty quickly too, shouts of congratulations directed at him and Clarke (though Maya and Gaia are the only two who are relatively calm), and he swears he can see some money being passed back and forth. Not at all surprising, and he's sure there are going to be many more bets in the near future where their daughter is concerned.
His mom and sister are in front of him within seconds, both of them hugging him tightly before Octavia quickly abandons him for Clarke. So he focuses on his mom, smiling brightly at her as she gently cups his cheeks in her hands.
"I don't think I've told you yet how proud I am of you. You're taking on this huge responsibility when no one was ever expecting you to."
Bellamy shrugs. "I love Clarke. And I love this baby. Simple as that."
His mom's smile brightens a little. "And you're going to be such a good dad to that little girl. I love you so much, sweetheart."
"I love you too, Mom." He gives her a quick hug and then ushers her toward Clarke so she can congratulate her, smiling at the sight when they greet each other.
He jolts when there's a slap against his shoulder, glaring up at Murphy.
"Congrats, man."
Bellamy's glare vanishes at the thought of his unborn daughter and he smiles. "Thanks. We're both pretty excited."
"I gathered. Now, don't tell Clarke this because we both know she'll want to skin me alive, but I'd say about…a little over a third of the student body gets a say in what you name the baby."
Bellamy's eyes go wide. "What? Why would they think that?"
"I may have told them that was the prize if they guessed right if you two would be having a boy or a girl."
"Well, you better untell them, because there is no way we're leaving the naming of our child up to a bunch of teenagers."
Murphy blinks. "Uh, you and Clarke are teenagers."
"Yes, but we're the parents. We're the only ones who get to decide."
Murphy chuckles. "You say this like all of us aren't going to give our input whether you want it or not." He claps him on the back once more and then moves over to Clarke to pull her into a hug.
Bellamy just sighs and shakes his head, not entirely thrilled by Murphy's antics, but also not at all surprised by them either. He just hopes Clarke isn't going to seriously injure Murphy when she finds out what he did. Because there's a high chance that she will. And he values his life enough to not try and stop her.
So? What did you think? Let me know in a review down below. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Until next time,
