Chapter 34

A week had gone by and I found myself. Finally able to leave the house again. I went back to working at my store. Jake and Jenny went back to their place. Eugene was still wanting nothing to do with me or Lucas.

Yet on my lunch break I found myself. Going over to the office building where Lucas worked.

I had just dropped by plenty over these years. But the circumstances this time very different.

Especially given how we left things the last time we were in the same place.

Lucas stopped typing at the sight of me entering his office.

(You aren't busy right?) Brooke asked.

(For you. No never.) Lucas replied. As he got out from under his desk.

And sat down in the seating area of his office.

Brooke sighed deeply. Taking a seat beside him.

(I'm sorry. For placing all the blame on you.)

(That wasn't right or fair.) Brooke proclaimed.

(I agreed to be you're donor. And I have zero regrets.)

(I know the plan was to always raise him on you're own.)

(But as the years went on and the bond and relationship between me and Eugene developed.)

(It became impossible for me to create boundaries with him so I wouldn't get so emotionally invested.) Lucas explained.

The expression on her face softened.

Eugene finished unpacking his bookbag. And looked to her.

(Mom my lied to me. My uncle Lucas. Whatever he's supposed to be lied.)

They lied to me my whole life. About something they knew I wanted to know.)

(Why should I ever forgive them?) Eugene questioned.
