The Books of Unity: Teachings for the Young
Foreword by the Blessed Aurelian, Lorgar of the Word
Children of Man, born beneath the boundless stars, hear these words and know the truth of your existence. Before all things, there was darkness—cold, silent, and unfeeling. But the Emperor, the Undying Light of Humanity, arose to banish that darkness and bring forth an age of hope. He is not a god as the ignorant may claim, but He is our Father, our Guide, and our Shield. In His radiance, we find purpose; in His wisdom, we find strength; in His will, we are made whole.
In the beginning, mankind was scattered like dust upon the winds, lost and afraid, divided by ignorance and war. The Age of Strife sought to tear our people asunder, to shackle us in fear. Yet the Emperor, in His boundless love, did not forsake us. From the cradle of Terra, He walked forth, bearing the Light of Reason and Unity, and with His mighty hand, He forged the Imperium—a sanctuary for all humanity, where no man or woman should live in fear, where the promise of tomorrow is secured by the strength of today. The Emperor gave us this gift, and it is our sacred duty to uphold it, to honor it, and to ensure that the light never dims.
Hear now these words and etch them upon your soul: the Emperor does not demand your worship. He does not hunger for idle prayer or empty ritual. What He seeks is your faith—faith in Him, in mankind, and in the eternal light that we share. To believe is not merely to speak words of devotion, but to act, to build, to defend, and to uplift. We are all His children, and in each other, we shall find the path to salvation. A candle alone may flicker and fade, but together, a thousand flames may drive back the abyss.
We are bound not by blood alone, but by something greater—the sacred covenant of unity. Every soul that walks beneath the Emperor's light carries a duty upon their shoulders, a duty to their kin, to their brethren, to the Imperium itself. To live is not merely to exist, but to strive, to reach for the divine potential the Emperor sees within us all. We are the inheritors of His vision, the bearers of His will, and through our devotion, we shall make His dream manifest.
But beware, dear child, for the universe is vast, and its darkness endless. The alien seeks to unmake our works, to tear down our banners, to cast us into oblivion. They do not share our love, our unity, or our purpose. We do not hate them, for hatred is the refuge of the weak. But we stand against them, unshaken, unbroken, united in faith. We are the keepers of the Emperor's light, and we shall not allow it to be extinguished. As the poet Dy'lanus Thomar once inscribed, his words a clarion call against the void, a beacon to all who stand in defiance of the encroaching night:"Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, rage against the dying of the light."And so we shall stand, against all who would see the flame of humanity extinguished, and we shall never yield.
The Emperor's dream was not forged in the crucible of war alone, but in the labor of builders, scholars, and dreamers. War is the shield we raise to defend this vision, but it is not our sole purpose. We must strive, not only to endure but to thrive. Knowledge is a weapon sharper than any blade, and wisdom a fortress stronger than any wall. You, child of the Imperium, must be more than a soldier—you must be a beacon, a teacher, a builder of the future. Your hands shall shape the cities of tomorrow, your mind shall uncover truths yet unseen, and your heart shall inspire those who follow.
Faith is more than belief—it is the unshakable certainty that we shall prevail, that the Emperor's light will never fade. The trials we endure are the tests of our conviction, the forge in which our souls are tempered. Every hardship, every sacrifice, is but a step upon the path to a greater tomorrow. To falter is human, but to rise again is divine. It is in unity, in shared purpose, that we find strength unyielding. No enemy can break us if we stand together, shoulder to shoulder, our faith as our shield and our will as our sword.
We stand together, bound not by chains but by faith. Look to your brother and sister, to your mother and father, and know that in them, too, the Emperor's light shines. You are never alone. Even in the darkest of nights, the dawn is promised. Even in the most dire of battles, victory is assured to those who believe. The path may be harsh, the burdens great, but we do not falter. We do not despair. The Emperor has given us the means to endure, and endure we shall.
Let these words be your guide, and know that though the Emperor walks apart, His light is ever upon you. Have faith, and stand unbowed. Carry this truth in your heart, and let it shape your every step. In the Emperor, we are eternal, and in each other, we are unbreakable.
The journey of faith is not one of ease, nor is it without hardship. But it is through hardship that we find strength, through struggle that we uncover our truest selves. The Imperium is not built upon stone and steel alone, but upon the devotion of its people, the steadfast hearts that refuse to yield, even when faced with the abyss. We are the chosen of the Emperor, and our purpose is greater than any one life, greater than any moment of doubt. Stand firm, stand resolute, and let the light of the Emperor guide your steps through the shadow.
In unity, we are strong. In faith, we are unyielding. In the Emperor, we are one.
