Kaoru was just picked randomly, I didn't realize I took it from Splash Star, I was thinking of different manga/anime when I wrote that chapter haha.
9th December
I just sat there, sat there against my locker for God knows how long. I didn't pay attention to the clock ticking away above the door. It was still weird, I couldn't feel sadness, I couldn't cry or yell for people to tell them what had happened. I guessed that all those feelings were just something you could do when you had a body. I noticed though when the sun creeped into my 'eyes' but I didn't peer when it shone right at me. I looked at the time: 7:43 am. I wondered if my family had noticed me missing. My head jolted up when I heard vibration inside. My phone! I stared at my locker before putting my hand through it without success. I groaned loudly, being a ghost was not an easy thing. Or I needed some training, I didn't know. This time I tried open my locker and to my surprise, it swung open. I didn't waste time and tried to pick up my phone and answered the call.
"H-h-hello!? Nagisa?! Are you there?!" It was mom. She sounded hysterical and she was choking back her tears. I frowned heavily, I knew I couldn't say anything. I just stood there helplessly as my mom tried to call my name but pulled my phone back to check the missed call. Mom had tried to call me all night after 8 pm, along with dad, Fuji-P and Honoka. I clutched my phone frustrated, mom was still on the phone during. I laid my phone back into the locker but this time held it ajar in case anybody would find my phone.
Suddenly, the door swung open and I turned immediately around. Was Genji back? (I didn't want to use honorifics on that bastard) No, instead it was my teammates. I looked at the clock again; yeah it was time for morning Lacrosse practice. But something hit me and I looked at Genji's blood and my broken Lacrosse stick on the floor. Now was the perfect timing for my teammates to see what had happened, to see that something was wrong. I stared intensely at them while hoping they'd notice it. I smiled when Rina noticed my locker was slightly opened and heard my mom yelling from the phone. She picked it up, I jumped slightly with my feet.
"Hello? Misumi-san?" Rina answered as Shiho turned her head towards her friend and approached, curious.
"Ah, Shiho! Look out for that blood splatter!" Yes! One of the girls noticed. Shiho kneeled down to inspect it.
"Are you sure it's blood?" she asked as she tried to hold back to touch it. Meanwhile, Rina's face turned grim.
"Maybe it's ketchup." one of the girls, Misaki, shrugged. "Taste it." she added jokingly.
Before Shiho could reply, Rina stormed out of the locker room without a word and left everyone befuddled. Shiho tried calling for her name as she followed her. I followed them as well. Rina hastily walked towards the school while poor Shiho had to run after her. She hadn't grown much after Junior High.
We walked in the empty halls, the students were in middle of class, until Rina turned swiftly to the left with Shiho on her tails. I looked at the sign above: Principal's office. I didn't waste time to follow her again, eagerly to know what mom had said to her. Rina bowed at the Principal, apologizing for the intrusion while Shiho bend over knees to catch her breath. She handed my phone over to the Principal and he talked to mom for about two minutes as his face drooped.
"I see...You'd better call the police, Misumi-san. Tell them to come here if needed." He closed my flip phone and silently handed it back to Rina. Shiho just looked at them with big question mark above her head. Rina bowed again, grabbed Shiho and exited and closed the door gently.
"W-what the hell, what the hell, Rina? What's going on?!" Shiho almost yelled while Rina just stared at the Principal's door.
"Shiho...get Honoka-san to meet me on top of the roof on lunch break. You too." Rina said without facing Shiho. Shiho and Rina started to call Honoka 'san' when we entered High School. Honoka insisted that they address her more friendlier way since all four of us had known each other for 2 years at that point. Shiho didn't question her, she might had given up, and turned to head back to the gym. Rina followed a minute later.
When they arrived back to the locker room, Akemi-san had found my broken Lacrosse stick. Rina stared horrified at it, fearing the worst. She took my stick and walked away again. She or Shiho didn't join the training that morning, but they returned to class hour later. I went inside my classroom where there was class going on. I jumped onto my empty table and observed Ikeda-sensei's teachings. Even when dead it was boring but I could atleast walk away this time. I didn't want to. I wanted them to find my body, find any clue, to throw that Genji asshole on death penalty.
"So...you've calmed down yet?" I turned around, it was the damn dog Shinigami again and he was hovering infront of me.
"Yes...so why is it I haven't gone to the Sanzu River yet? (1)" The dog lowered itself down so it could look into my eyes.
"About that, your soul is restless. You have unfinished business to do before passing on."
"I'm guessing that it's because my body is hidden away." I took a shot to the dark but Ichiro just shrugged. He was really pissing me off.
"Who knows. That's the beauty of being dead." he smirked. I clenched my fist and was about to retort when one of my classmate uttered.
"The police's here." Everyone started to gather around the windows but two were missing. I looked over Shiho and Rina; Rina looked stressed, sweat dripping from her hands and her eyes widened while Shiho went over to her worried and asked what was wrong. Me and Ichiro then joined the others at the window observing the police officers outside the gate talking to the Principal. Ikeda-sensei scolded the girls to return to their seats and they reluctantly did eventually. When I glanced over to sensei and back to the officers, two of them had disappeared along with the Principal. Thirty minutes passed until a loudspeaker spoke across the school.
"Takashimizu, Kubota and Yukishiro-san, please report to the Principal's officer." The class room was filled with whispers and glances at my three former friends as they walked outside the room. I tailed them and as they closed the door I just walked passed it. Ichiro followed us for a while until he wished me good luck and disappeared. Good riddance. He had worse attitude than Ryouta. Rina, Shiho and Honoka sat on the bench outside the office, waiting for their turn.
"R-Rina, what's going on? D-did something happen to Nagisa?!" Shiho started to sound desperate which didn't help Honoka's worry. I looked at her sympathetically. Rina, however, just stayed quiet and looked down on the floor. Tears started to flow down which caused Shiho to tear up as well. I wanted justice but not this.
The Principal opened the door, causing everyone, including me, to turn our heads towards him. He gently called for Honoka's name and beckoned her to get inside. While the Principal closed the door, Honoka sat down on the chair infront of his desk. My curiosity peaked; I wanted to know if they had any lead or not. The Principal sat down on his chair; a police officer stood next to him and the other, I assumed was his superior, leaned against the desk. He had cropped hair, there were some gray hair on his sides, with chin strap beard.
"Yukishiro Honoka? I'm Chief Inspector Kudo Kenji (2) with the Police. You are good friend of Misumi Nagisa, right?" he asked calmly while smiling gently. Honoka nodded as she clenched her hands together, making it look like she was praying. The Inspector sighed heavily. Shouldn't he be used to delivering the bad news?
"I'm afraid to say that your friend has disappeared." Honoka's heart sank, her pupils shrunk as tears formed. "W-we're here to investigate so we can bring her home safely. Her parents told us she was planning to meet you at 5 pm last night?" Honoka nodded while trying to hold back her tears.
"S-she never arrived. W-we tried to call her but her phone didn't pick up." Honoka replied shakingly. Kudo picked up my cellphone and scrolled down my missed call. He nodded when he found Honoka's name in there.
"Her phone was found in her locker by her other friend Takashimizu-san. Is this a recurring thing for her?"
"W-what are you trying to say!" Honoka suddenly yelled and stood up, startling me as well as the officers. Well...you know what I meant. "Nagisa never got into wrong groups or associated with them! She only had afterschool activity yesterday!" Kudo started to write it down with Honoka still standing there.
"I-I was just making sure, Yukishiro-san. It's common for kids your age to hang around with wrong people." Honoka sat back down, her eyebrow furrowed. I hadn't seen her that mad since Kiriya-kun. "You weren't with her during school activity?" he added a question.
"No...Rina-san and Shiho-san were." She replied quickly.
"I see...thank you for your time, Yukishiro-san. We will find her." he reached for her hand to shake but Honoka just looked at it. Kudo felt awkward and withdrew his hand, coughing into it.
"Yukishiro-san, you can go home and take a day off." The Principal added.
"Thank you..." Honoka stood up and walked out of the office, leaving the door opened. Kudo sighed heavily again and yelled for Shiho and Rina to come in. The girls gave the exact same statement when the last time they saw me. While they were talking, I started to think about Fuji-P and turned my head towards his school. The curiosity got better of me and I flew towards the Boys' school
I saw him and landed near Fuji-P who was flipping his phone lid with worried look as he stared intensely at it during a soccer practice. Kimata-kun noticed him sitting there and ran up and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Fuji-P, you're not suppose to have a cellphone during school." Kimata-kun said. He kept on flipping the lid until he stopped and looked at my phone number.
"Nagisa hasn't replied to my text messages or phone calls..." Fuji-P said softly. I sat down beside him and touched his hair but it went through as usual. How I missed his smell, his touch his...kisses.
"She must be uh, busy with an upcoming test?" Oh right. There was suppose to be a test on Monday. A damn math test. Now I'm kinda glad to be dead.
"Y-yeah..." As Fuji-P finished his words, the boys look up to Honoka who stood there. Honoka...she was on verge of tears but she kept a brave face. She sat ontop of me but I moved away as Kimata-kun left but Honoka insisted that he'd stay too. I knew where this was going. After few words, Fuji-P burrowed his face into his hands and walked away. Honoka didn't even bother to stop him and walked towards the other direction.
I couldn't take it anymore.
I had wished that I could find Genji and somehow try to warn people. But also, to be honest, was curious what he was doing to my body. I suddenly teleported out of the school and arrived somewhere inside. I looked around frantically; the space was so tight, maybe about ten people could enter here?
Infront of me was Genji and he was chopping something. It caused alot of blood to be spilled since near all the table, floor and the wall where the table was against was covered with it. I walked forward, hesitantly but the curiosity got the better to me. When I approached the table, my eyes widened but Genji didn't acknowledge me; Genji had been chopping a body apart, he focused on chopping the chest with difficulty. I turned around frantically and saw a bag with the already chopped severed body parts. I wanted to puke. But when I saw my uniform next to the bag, folded neatly as if my mom had done it, I felt dirty. He was chopping my body up.
Rage started to build inside me and I threw my fist at him. My hand connected with his face but he didn't budge. I looked at my hand, confused. Now that I thought about it, I could open my locker that morning but last night my hand went through Honoka. Maybe if I focused more I could pick up items at will.
While I just sat there wanting to know what he was going to do with my body, Genji finally had finished. He placed the chopped chest parts into the other severed bodies then poured some liquid on it before placing a dead racoon on top of it. I hadn't noticed that my shin with that scratch I got during practice dropped onto the floor but Genji just opened the trap floor and I followed him.
When I got outside, I noticed that we were on Keiyaki Hills (3), the same hill that gave Sanae-san hope during the war. He hid the trap floor with fake grass then walked away. Again, I followed him and on our way, a police officer stopped him once, it made me excited, but it died when he showed and I remembered that he had put a dead racoon on top of the bag. He was excused and continued to walk. To be honest, on our way, I wished he got hit by a car or a crane fell on him but unfortunately, nothing bad happened to him. We arrived at our apartment and while he opened the door with his key, I looked over at mine, hoping my parents would come out, but they didn't.
When Genji entered his house, he placed my body into a safe, went to the living room and touched my bracelet in deep thought before placing it onto a small shelf along with other stuff. There was an old Mickey Mouse watch that had stopped working and a tamagotchi. I looked at it thoughtfully. Where did he got those? Genji then went to the bathroom to take a shower; I tried covering my face when he revealed his privates. At that point, I decided to leave to my parents but I stopped when he uttered.
"God, it was good to kill again." I turned around. Ichiro had mentioned that he had taken girls virginities before killing them. Then it hit me; the accessories I saw on the shelf were memento of his previous victims. That sick son-of-a-bitch...I slammed my fist into the wall but it went through. I couldn't wait to see him get caught and get fried for this.
"It's a wishful thinking, Misumi Nagisa." an unknown voice said beside me. I turned to find a middle aged woman, smiling at me. She had brown hair but gray lines in it. It actually looked good on her. She extended a hand towards me; the smile, it...reminded me of something or someone...I reached to take her hand without hesitation.
"I know it's scary, Nagisa, but maybe with little courage and patience, that man will pay for what he did. For what he did to you, to the girls." She placed a hand on my head. I tightened my grip onto hers, shaking. I believed in her words.
"Wh-who are you?" I muttered.
"I'm Aiko, your intake counselor. I'm here to help you so any problems you have, you can ask me."
12th December 2006
Aiko-san helped me alot so far and it felt nice having a companionship. On second day, I decided to let my curiosity get the better of me and check my school. I saw a police car outside the school and tape around the gym, there were no athletic activities going on that day. I flew through the walls on fourth floor and sat on my empty desk and scanned around the room. Everything looked normal, except Honoka, Shiho and Rina were missing. I didn't see Ikeda-sensei around the school. They'd spent these four days since I disappeared, just locked in their rooms. Shiho couldn't stop crying, Rina refused to eat and Honoka did both of that but just stared into the thin air. It was rare that her grandmother or Chuutaro managed to snap her out of it. Fuji-P...I hadn't had the courage to see him.
Inspector Kudo inspected the room where I was murdered. The blood stain that the girls found that morning was gone; one of my teammates had cleaned it up, thinking it was ketchup. She apologized million times when she discovered it was an evidence to the police but Kudo kept insisting it was okay. I could hear him curse under his breath. Except the blood stain, there was only my broken Lacrosse stick as evidence. I started to walk away and decided to visit my parents again. But I stopped at my tracks when I saw a head with red bandana. One of the officer passed through me and I followed him back to Kudo.
"Sir, we have a woman who may know who was responsible for it." He said. Kudo turned around to see the woman standing at doorframe. He sighed deeply.
"Akane-san..."
"You know this all feels familiar, right? Inspector Kudo." Akane looked at him furiously.
"You know we couldn't arrest him due to lack of evide-"
"He was seen with her! How is that lack of evidence!" Akane retorted.
"With other girls accompanying them and they all got back home! Miyazaki-san had an alibi, the girls departed from the arcade and he stayed at his home the whole day!" he sighed again. "Akane-san, you need to let it go. Your mother did."
"Not until you investigate him. You owe us that, Kudo." Kudo stayed silent for minute, frowning deeply. I just looked between them, confused.
"Alright...fine." He complied, then turned his attention to his officers. "I need someone to check on Miyazaki-san." This...was overwhelming. Akane-san knew someone who was a victim of Genji? I should ask Aiko-san when she comes back. Atleast they had a lead.
I decided to leave the scene and hung around the school until the bell rung. With some talking to myself, I gathered up the courage to visit my parents.
When I visited my parents, finally, mom was sitting by our home phone while dad paced around in the kitchen. I couldn't see Ryouta anywhere but found him hiding in the halls, just standing still like a statue. They'd been like that for days but mom just...lost it the day I was gone. It might've had been because of the news she was watching the day it happened. I approached mom who was covering her face with her hands, sobbing again. Dad was too busy in deep thoughts. Without a warning, he just walked out with his jacket. I looked back at mom who wasn't fazed at dad leaving and re-positioned her arms to lie on the table with her head buried.
"Nagisa...oh God, please be okay..."
