Sookie woke Eric from a deep sleep. She was tossing and turning and thrashing around. She was screaming so loudly that he was afraid she was going to cause permanent damage. He sat up in bed and looked over at her. The look on her face made him feel worthless. She looked terrified. The bed sheets under her were wet with her sweat and tears. Eric gathered her in his arms and pulled her in his lap.
"Baby, wake up." He whispered, pushing her hair from her forehead with his fingertips.
"Sookie! Wake the fuck up!" He pleaded. Godric and Pam both came rushing in the room.
"What happened?" Godric asked.
"She's having another nightmare." He explained never taking his eyes off of her. She was thrashing around and screaming so hard she slapped him across the face.
"Eric lay her down." Godric said, grabbing the closest shirt he could find and tossing it at Eric. Eric slipped it over her head pretty easily.
When he did Sookie began to seize like she had earlier the night before. She was foaming at the mouth and shaking uncontrollably.
Eric watched helplessly as Godric pierced his finger and gave her a single drop of blood for the second time in less than 12 hours. She calmed down after that and Eric kissed her gently on the lips and got up. He went into another room at the end of the hall. Godric followed him. Eric looked at him, he had no words.
"She's going to die if we don't end this curse soon." He said unable to stop the tears from flowing. Godric sat beside him.
"I'll leave you a vial of blood. Eric, how long have her nightmares been this violent?" Godric asked.
"Since she got back. They've been slightly worse since those damn witches. I think it's because Bill is out there." Godric agreed.
"Eric?" Pam said coming into the room. "She's awake and asking for you. She's still pretty out of it. I got her cleaned up. Let me know if I can do anything else before we go to ground." Eric stood up and wiped his face with his hands. "Thank you both for taking care of her." He said looking at Godric and Pam.
"Eric, there is something I need to speak to you about, I spoke with Nora, I've explained the situation. Roman has given his approval, if she needs to be turned we can turn her. Only if she is dying. Eric nodded. It was something, but it still left so much room for her to suffer. He walked back into the room. Sookie was sitting in the recliner. She still had that terrified look on her face and she was pale. She held her arms up for him. Eric got on his knees in front of her. He took her hand in his and brought it to his lips.
"I'm so sorry, Lover. Do you want to talk about it?" He asked.
"He was trying to drown me. I was in this big bathtub. He held me underwater. Eric, I could feel the water in my lungs. I couldn't breathe." Eric stood up and gently leaned over and scooped her up in his arms.
"It'll be dawn soon. Watch the sunrise with me?" Eric asked, Sookie smiled slightly and nodded. He carried her downstairs to the patio door. Before going outside, he grabbed a big oversized fluffy blanket from the back of the couch. He carried her outside to the swing. It was huge, more like a swinging bed, big enough for the both of them. Eric sat her on the swing and covered her with the blanket. Eric turned on the fire pit to keep them warm. He joined Sookie and pulled the blanket over both of them. The last seizure had really taken a toll on her. He knew she was exhausted. She hadn't said a word, even her movements seemed to be causing her pain. Eric cradled her against his chest as the sun rose into the sky. It was breathtaking.
"Eric?" He looked down at her. She was pale in his arms.
"Do you think we could cancel with Niall today? I'm not sure I can even get dressed." Her eyes fluttered closed. He kissed the top of her head.
"I'll get you dressed. Lover, I hope he can help us in some way." She shivered in his arms. He kissed the top of her head. "Come on, you're freezing, let's get you inside." Eric said standing up and lifting her in his arms. He turned the fire pit off and carried her inside. She was so weak by the time he got her upstairs she couldn't lift her head from his shoulder. He held her and promised her everything was going to be okay as she drifted off to sleep in his arms.
Sookie felt a million times better when she woke back up. She rolled over and studied Eric's handsome face. She smiled and gently grazed his lips with hers. She looked at the clock. It was 9:30. So she forced herself out of bed. She gathered the ingredients and began making French toast. Eric came down as she sprinkled powdered sugar on the last piece.
"Hi, I made you breakfast." She smiled happily. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed the side of head. "Feeling better?" He asked, taking the plate she handed to him.
"Lots." She watched eagerly as he took the first bite. His whole face lit up. "Sookie! This is delicious." He said, tearing into what was left. He ate every single bite and what was left on Sookie's plate. Sookie poured him a big glass of orange juice and a glass of milk. He drank both. She kissed him and went upstairs to get dressed while he finished.
Sookie decided to pull on a pair of black leggings with a matching black sports bra. She had a hard time getting in the bra but didn't think too much of it. Maybe she was about to start her period. She pulled a long sleeve pink shirt over the bra and put on her socks and a pair of UGGs. She pulled her hair back into a ponytail. When she came downstairs Eric was just finishing the dishes from breakfast. She smiled at him. He looked so happy and carefree right that moment.
"Hey baby? I was thinking, do you think it would be okay if I drove to Bon Temps today?" Eric turned off the water and dried his hands on a dish towel. He wrapped his arms around her hips and hugged her. "I think that's a great idea." He said, kissing her on the tip of the nose.
"And I need to stop by the store before we come home. I want to cook dinner for you tonight." He raised his eyebrows. If it's as good as what you made this morning then I love that idea." His hands ran down her back and he cupped her butt and pulled her against him. She smiled and gently pulled away. "Down boy, I think I'm about to start my period. My boobs are all swollen." He smiled at her. "Since when did that stop us?" He asked against her neck. She felt him harden. She swatted his hand away. "Go get dressed. We don't have time to fool around right now. If we start we won't make it to meet Niall on time. " Eric kissed her one last time before letting her go and leaving the room. Sookie tidied up a little bit and went to clean out the fridge. She was throwing away old take out boxes when the smell of something caught her nose. It made her physically ill. She dropped the box in the trash can and ran for the bathroom. She was still throwing up when Eric came back downstairs. "Lover?" She shook her head and rested her head against the cold porcelain of the toilet seat. "Sookie what happened?" He had already gotten a wet washcloth and had sat behind her on the floor. "Something just got to me, I'm not even sure what it was." Eric helped her to her feet. She was pale as a ghost.
"Hey, I'll tell you what, let me drive on the way there so you can rest, if you feel better and want to drive home you can." She let him lead her out of the bathroom. She just wanted to go to sleep. "Okay." She agreed. Eric grabbed the car keys from the counter where he'd dropped them last night and carried her out to the car.
"Baby, we need to get the trash out of the house. It'll stink up the whole house if we don't." She told him before pulling her legs under her and curling up in a ball. Eric ran back in the house and grabbed the trashcan and brought it outside to deal with when they got back. Sookie was sleeping in the front seat when Eric got back. He opened the garage and turned the car on. Sookie shifted in her sleep and leaned against him. She slept the entire way to Bon Temp.
Niall was already sitting on the porch swing when Eric pulled up to the farmhouse at 11:45 am. Sookie was still sleeping peacefully against his shoulder. He hated to wake her up. He reached over and reclined her seat and leaned her against it.
He climbed out of the car and went to get some answers from Niall.
"She's sleeping in the car. She hasn't felt well, we'll give her a few more minutes." Eric told the fairy.
"Not felt well? Tell me how long have you been human again?" Eric sighed. "Over twenty-four hours." Niall laughed.
"And I'm assuming the two of you are sexually active?" Eric glared at the fairy. He knew Sookie too well. She would be livid if he talked about their sex life with anyone. "What are you getting at Fairy?" Niall chuckled.
"I'm assuming you didn't suddenly start wrapping it up to prevent yourselves from procreating?" Niall said pointing to the front of Eric's pants. Eric looked at him like he had two heads. The thought had never crossed his mind.
"Go on,wake her up. We need to be done and the two of you need to be back in Shreveport well before dark." Eric sprinted back to Pilot. He opened the door. Sookie was in the same position that he left her in. Eric tucked a strand of loose hair behind her ear. "Lover, wake up." He whispered in her ear and kissed the side of her cheek. She stirred and wrapped her arm around his shoulder. "How are you feeling?" He asked, running his hand through her hair and gently tugged on the base of her ponytail. She smiled, and touched his cheek, holding his face still so she could kiss him. "Better I think." She said as she relaxed in his arms against him. "Niall's already here. Are you ready to start?" Sookie groaned against his chest. "Not really. Can we just go back home and snuggle in bed?" Eric tightened his grip on her. As tempting as it was, he needed her to be able to defend herself.
"After your lesson." Eric leaned down and kissed her softly. Sookie sighed and let Eric help her to her feet. They held hands while they waited for Niall.
"It's wonderful to see you again my dear. Shall we start? I explained to Eric that the two of you should be back in the safety of your house in Shreveport by dark." Niall explained leading them to the front yard. The weather was warm enough that they could be outside comfortably despite the chilly morning. Eric sat down on the porch step while Sookie and Niall began to practice in the front yard.
"Okay Sookie it's quite simple really, picture your light in your mind, the way it feels when it comes out of your hands. Now take every single emotion you have and direct it to your fingers." Sookie did as she was told and jumped when the light shot from her fingers and hit a nearby tree. She looked at Eric. "Baby, I did it!" She squealed, running to him. He stood up and caught her in his arms and spun her around.
"Okay Sookie, good job again." Niall insisted. Eric kissed her before sitting her down on the ground.
Sookie and Niall practiced for about another hour. Sookie felt good, better than she had in days.
"That's good for today. I want you and the Northman back in before dark." Niall insisted. Sookie nodded. "Okay, I just need to use the bathroom." Sookie said, turning to Eric. "Babe, have you got the keys?" Eric was already digging in his pocket to get it. He unlocked the door and looked inside the room before she went in. Eric watched her run up the stairs until she was out of sight.
"You need to contact Ludwig immediately." Niall said once she was out of ear range. Eric turned and looked at him.
"She's definitely pregnant. I can sense the extra life force. She's developing quickly. There's already a strong heartbeat." Eric felt the room begin to sway. He was terrified.
"Baby, what's wrong?" Sookie's voice came from the top of the stairs.
"Come sit down, we should talk before we return to Shreveport." Eric motioned for Niall to sit on the chair so Eric could sit with Sookie on the couch. She came down the stairs and sat beside him.
"What's wrong? You're pale as a ghost." Sookie said, kissing his cheek and running her fingers through his hair.
"Niall noticed something when the two of you were training. Baby, I've been human for almost two days now and we've made love more times than I can count." Sookie looked at him wide eyed. "Eric, shush that's private." She said, feeling herself turn red behind the ears. Eric laughed a little
"It's alright I wasn't going to go into detail. Baby, I need you to listen to me carefully. I'm human, you're human and we've been having sex every chance we get. Niall said he senses another life in you." Sookie jumped out of his lap and ran from the room. Eric stood up and followed her.
"Can you give us a minute?" He asked as he followed her into the kitchen. She was sitting in a corner of the room with her knees folded against her chest. He sat down on the floor and wrapped his arms around her. "Baby, I'm sorry I know you didn't want this." He whispered in her ear. She looked up at him.
"We're really going to have a baby?" Was that hope he detected in her voice?
"Niall thinks so. But you told me before you didn't want kids, I won't force anything on you that you don't want." Sookie reached for his hand and threw her arms around him.
She sobbed against his shoulder. It took him a second to realize she was holding her belly.
"You remember everything I've ever told you don't you?" She asked through her tears. "Every single word. You don't want children because you're afraid of passing on your gift." Sookie grabbed his face in her palm and forced him to look at her. "Honey, a baby was never a possibility for us until right this minute. I really don't know what to think. I'm afraid." Eric's hand joined hers over her belly.
"We need to confirm with Ludwig. But think about it. I'm human and we've been fucking every chance we get. Come on, let's go home. I can get Ludwig to meet us there." Eric stood up and reached for her hand. She took it and he pulled her to her feet.
Eric led her out of the house and made sure it was locked behind him. Sookie said goodbye to Niall. "I'll see you tomorrow my dear." Niall said before vanishing. Eric reached for Sookie's hand to help her to the car. But she stopped walking and grabbed his arm to her chest.
"Wait Eric! Can't we just get Dr. Ludwig to come here?" Sookie asked. She had to know as soon as possible. Eric pulled his phone from his pocket. He called the doctor. He stepped away for a few minutes before hanging up the phone and walking back over to her.
"Ludwig will be here in fifteen minutes." Sookie looked up at him and smiled.
"Come on, let's get back in the house.
About twenty minutes later they were sitting on the couch watching the news when they heard a slight knock. Eric got up and opened the door for her while Sookie sat on the couch.
" Let's check and see if you have a baby." She said getting straight to the point and walking in the house as if she owned it. Sookie sighed and laid down.
"Scoot down to the bottom and use the arm of the couch. This would have been much easier in my office. It might be easier for her if you sit behind her and support her." The doctor said as she unpacked an ultrasound machine. While they got into position Dr. Ludwig plugged the machine in the corner. The gel was icy cold. "Ok Northman, so let me get this straight. Witches made you human and this one is part fairy? And you've been human for less than three days? You do know positive pregnancy confirmations take a few weeks to show up?" They both nodded. "Yes, we're aware, but Sookie just recently spent some time in Fairy. And it's my understanding that fairy gestestation doesn't last nine months." Eric explained
"You're correct, so let's see what we can see?" The doctor said. Sookie gripped on to Eric's hand when she began the procedure. The gel was cold.
"You're okay. Just slow deep breaths." Eric said, kissing the side of her head.
"There. Less than two days? See those two golf ball sized looking specks?" The doctor asked. Sookie nodded. They looked at the screen. She felt Eric stiffen underneath her.
"Those are your babies." Sookie watched, dumbfounded as the doctor labeled each of their babies. She heard Eric ask some questions. She couldn't understand what they were talking about.
"Can she survive this?" Eric's fear snapped her back into reality.
"They will develop very quickly, as we already discussed, due to her being fae and being in Fairy. You'll need to figure out how to break the witch curse so you can give her your blood twice daily so her human side can stay strong enough. But congratulations in about three short weeks you'll be the parents of twins. I'll have you make an appointment next week. We need to do a full physical. I can see myself out. " Eric looked down at Sookie as the doctor rolled the cart out of the room. His hands automatically went to her belly as he placed light kisses over the side of her face.
"Say something." He whispered in her ear as he pulled her in his lap and covered her with the blanket. She just squeezed him tighter.
"Did she say twins? In three weeks?" Eric squeezed her tighter.
"It's a fae thing. A lot of fae pregnancies produce multiples. Sookie, I won't let anything happen to you. I won't leave your side until these babies are out of you. If that's what you're worried about." Sookie shook her head and finally made eye contact. "I know baby." She smiled and kissed him. "I think I'm in shock. I gave up the idea of babies when I realized I wanted to spend my life with you. Now, we're suddenly having two in a few weeks. Eric, we don't have anything. We have to start getting ready. What if someone tries to take our babies?" Eric silenced her with a kiss.
"We'll get anything you even think you might need. You just concentrate on keeping your strength." Eric kissed her. "I love you." He whispered. "I love you too. Eric? Can we go home? I think I still want to cook you dinner." Sookie asked. Eric helped Sookie up. He helped her get her clothes fixed and made sure the door was locked when they left. Eric held Sookie's door open for her to get in.
He climbed in and cranked the car and had almost made it back to the main road when Sookie took her shirt off and slid next to him as close as the center console would allow. He looked at her.
"Do you think you can control your light better now?" He asked. She held her hands together and formed a perfect little ball of purple light. She smiled at him. "Good, I want one more sunrise with you. Then in the morning I want you to hit me with it." He said leaning over and kissing her passionately. Sookie just nodded at him.
"Hey baby can we pull over a minute?" Eric looked at her. "What's wrong?" He asked, swinging the car off the side of the road and slamming on breaks.
"Honey, calm down. There's just something I want you to do with me real quick." She said leaning up and kissing the side of his neck.
"And what would that be Mrs. Northman.?" He asked, leaning back against his seat. Sookie climbed over the console and straddled his legs.
"We haven't christened the new car yet." She whispered against his lips as she leaned down and
kissed him.
They got back to Shreveport at 4:30 that afternoon. Sookie had run into a small store and quickly got everything she needed for fried chicken. As she was walking out of the store a woman walked past her. There was something about the woman that made the hair on Sookie's arms stand up. Sookie knew without a doubt that she was the witch that had cursed Eric. The woman made eye contact with her. Sookie felt like she was going to suffocate. The walls of the small grocery store began to close in on her. She felt herself begin to sway. She grabbed on to her cart to keep herself from falling.
"Ma'am are you okay?" She heard a muffled voice ask her. She couldn't make out anyone's face. Sookie grabbed her stomach and fell to her knees. There were people talking to her and trying to find out information but Sookie couldn't understand any of it. Her eyes fluttered shut and everything around her went dark.
Eric despised waiting for her in the car. He was on edge every single second. He knew something was wrong when he heard the sirens coming towards them. He sprinted out of the car and ran toward the building. There was a small crowd close to the door inside the store. He saw a hand between all the people. He knew it was Sookie by her wedding ring
"That's my wife! What happened?" Eric yelled, pushing through the people to gather her in his arms.
He didn't hear the response. He focused on one woman, smirking in the corner. She mouthed the word "SOON" before disappearing in the crowd.
