"Toad Town is pretty busy," Olly explained as they headed down a path to the kingdom's town. "And the residents are pretty nice and welcoming. Unless you're Bowser. But he hasn't been around lately, so I think we're alright. Anyway, here's our first stop. This is the town for Origami Kingdom, which doesn't have a name yet. I'm considering Castle Town, but it feels a little out-of-universe..." Olly chuckled. "Anyway, let me grab something before we leave. Do you have a weapon? We should go back to your world prepared."
Izuku held up his fists.
"Fair enough!" Olly entered a store.
Izuku was curious, so he followed. The inside was simple, with a display case and mounts on the walls. There was a small variety of weapons, including a staff, and a few swords. Olly flew up to the counter and rang the bell a few times.
"Scissors? Are you in here?"
Izuku was fine with the Mushroom Kingdom, to that point. At no moment in his life did he ever want to see a giant pair of scissors, sharp enough to cut through stone, talk to him or even exist at all.
"My king, why is that man screaming?" The scissors asked.
Olly looked at Izuku. "Izuku, it's okay. Scissors is a friend. He works under me."
Izuku coughed. "That is huge? And so wrong on many levels!"
Olly chuckled. "Izuku, I brought him to life. You have nothing to fear."
Izuku pulled himself back together. "Okay, I think I'm good now. Sorry for the bad first impression."
Scissors laughed. "HA! Speak for yourself! Bowser was shaking in his bracelets when he met with my blade!"
Olly sighed. "Okay, Scissors, let's not brag. After all, I was the one who rendered him immobile. But anyway, I came here for the sword I requested. Izuku and I are going on a grand quest and I don't want to tire my magic if possible."
"Yes, just one moment, my sire." He hopped behind a curtain.
"Scissors knows a lot about swords, so with help from other kingdoms nearby, I opened a weapons shop in favor of him. The kingdom is small, but growing. We have an items shop too, but I've been stocked up for a while, so I think we'll be fine."
Scissors returned, an origami sword in the hole of his handle. He tipped sideways, tapped the handle against the counter a few times, and stood straight again when the sword slid out and onto the counter. The weapon was sheathed, with a golden hilt and purple grip, and a small purple diamond-shaped gem on the cross-guard. Olly grabbed it and bowed to Scissors.
"Thank you, Scissors." He slid it onto his side. "Izuku, do you need anything?"
Izuku shook his head.
"Are you sure you don't want fist guards or something?"
"I'm good," Izuku said.
"Alright. We're leaving then. The next stop is Toad Town."
Scissors cleared his throat. "My king, you still need to pay. Just because you're my king, doesn't mean you get to neglect paying for items properly."
"Uh, right. Sorry. It slipped my mind."
"Alright, we're finally in Toad Town. As I said, we're fine with provisions so we don't need to stop by any stores. Let's go to the castle first. Peach should know about Dimentio, right?" Olly looked around. "Speaking of which, the town seems kind of empty. Mario went off on another adventure...Do you think the Toads could be in trouble?"
They hurried to the castle. The drawbridge was closed shut. Izuku looked up at it.
"We can't get through here. Is there any other way around?"
"We can. I'm worried they're trapped there, so I think we should lower the drawbridge."
"Aren't the drawbridge controls inside the castle?"
"Yes, but I have a way. After all, this worked last time."
Olly held out both his hands, keeping a focused look on the drawbridge. He tossed his hands to the side with a small spin, and the drawbridge flopped down to the floor with a loud THUD!
Olly faced Izuku again. "Let's...get going..." Olly panted.
"Are you okay?" Izuku asked. "That was cool!"
"Was it? That was exhausting...If I'm this weak, I can't be any help at all." He sadly shook his head. "Sorry you have to see me this way. I nearly lost my power recently, and it's taken a huge toll on me to grow my power back."
"I get it. Quirks can be hard."
"Quirk?"
"Your...Quirk? You just tossed open the drawbridge without touching it. You don't know what a Quirk is?"
"My Fold of Life is magic, not whatever a Quirk is. Unless Quirk is just the name of your magic..." Olly shook his head. "Now's not the time! We need to see if Princess Peach is okay!"
He hurried inside the castle, Izuku running after him. He stopped in the throne room, seeing Olly floating there silently.
"Everyone is gone," Olly said quietly. "What happened to them? Why wasn't I there to help? What if they're in trouble? What if Mario's in trouble? What am I going to do? Oh Vellumentals, I hope the Origami Craftsman is alright. If something happened to him, and I wasn't there to save him..." Olly sniffed.
"Olly? What's wrong?!"
Olly faced him after wiping his eyes. "It's nothing." Izuku knew that was a lie. "I want to check up on a friend. You didn't...overhear anything, did you?"
"I heard you mention an Origami Craftsman..."
"Ah, so you heard that. Well, I figured you would know sooner or later, I suppose. Well, here goes...The friend I mentioned before? I was talking about the Origami Craftsman...my uh...father. I kind of went a bit...insane, you could say, when I found out he wrote on me. It was only a misunderstanding, but I tried to kill him for it. I was going to kill all the Toads, because they all reminded me of him..." Olly was shaking a bit. "B-but things are fine now. I want to make it up to him, so I promised I would protect him, even if he's oblivious to the promise...I just wish he got to see the real me. He was willing to waste his last use of Fold of Life just so he could undo what I did...And he was willing to teach me how to fold Olivia again...He did so much for me, and I ruined his life. He still loves me, but I'm not entirely sure if I love him, if that makes sense. But enough about me. I want to make sure the Origami Craftsman is alright. I know how to get there, so you can stay behind if you-"
"I'll come with you. You seem nervous and stressed, and you can't think straight when you are."
"Are you sure?"
"Yep. Let's hurry. I'm a bit worried something happened now."
"Great. Let's head to the dock. I'll lead the way from there."
