Chapter 11:
The Brash Baby
Location: Turffield
"Time to say goodbye to this place," I said. "It's been fun Turffield." I opened my Rotom Phone. "Hulbury is up next. Yeah! Let's do it!"
Location: Route 5
Route 5 was surrounded by trees. There was a viaduct in the distance that takes people over the Wild Area. For the uninitiated, a viaduct is a type of bridge with archways underneath.
"On we go!" I said.
Of course, you know the deal. I was spotted by a Trainer. This one was a Reporter.
"Hey, you beat Milo, right? Care for an interview?"
Gloria Vs. Reporter Gillian
"Raboot! It's time for your evolved debut!"
"Go Helioptile!" Gillian's Pokémon with yellow with long ears.
Helioptile (エリキテル)
#318
Electric/Normal Type
Generator Pokémon
1'08" (0.5 m)
13.2 lbs (6 kg)
When spread, the frills on its head act like solar panels, generating the power behind this Pokémon's Electric Type moves.
"Use Quick Attack Helioptile!" Helioptile dashed into Raboot.
"Ember attack!" Raboot kicked a flame at Helioptile. It was finished in one.
"Okay, I'll back off…"
I ran onwards and eventually came to a building. It had a gate with a bunch of Pokémon behind it.
"Hey!" I said. I remembered the Breeder I battled on Route 4. She talked about the Daycare here.
Location: Route 5 Day Care Centre
I walked into the building and saw some more Breeders. "Hey," I said.
"Hello!" said the woman at the Reception Desk. "Can we help you? Would you like to leave some Pokémon here to breed?"
"I'm fine," I said. "Just stopping by."
"Hey!" said the Receptionist. "I saw you on TV! You beat Milo yesterday, right? Can I see the Scorbunny you Dynamaxed?" I sent out Raboot. "So, it evolved. Lucky you. You seem like a capable young lady. Could you do us a favour?"
I nodded. "Whatever you need."
A Breeder came out carrying a small-purple Pokémon. It had a lightning bolt on its head. It was flailing about and screaming.
Toxel (エレズン)
#310
Electric/Poison Type
Baby Pokémon
1'04" (0.4 m)
24.3 lbs (11 kg)
It manipulates the chemical makeup of its poison to produce electricity. The voltage is weak, but it can cause a tingling paralysis.
Baby Pokémon.
"This Pokémon hatched two days ago, and yesterday, it saw you on TV battling it out. It pretty much crawled over to the TV excitedly. It was drawn in to your battle. So, if it's not too much to ask, could you please take Toxel with you?"
"I'd be glad to!" I said. I had been needing another team member! Plus, Toxel being an Electric Type, it would be strong against Nessa's Water Types. Now of course Toxel was only Lv. 1, so it wouldn't be battling yet.
"Okay Toxel, good luck!" The Receptionist sent Toxel back to a Pokéball and gave it to me.
"Thank you so much!" I said.
Location: Route 5
"Come on out everyone!" All my Pokémon were summoned. Raboot, Rookidee, Lombre, Purrloin and our newest member of the family, Toxel. "Everyone, this is Toxel. It's travelling with us now." Immediately, Toxel started crying. "Oh great. Well, I suppose it is only an infant." I knelt down to Toxel. "I know what, would you like to watch us have a battle?" Toxel looked at me. "Watch and learn!"
I decided to walk around Route 5, looking for Trainers and wild Pokémon. If I was going to use Toxel in battle, then it would need some experience.
I saw a Cameraman. He spotted me.
"I am here filming yesterday's victor against Milo!"
Gloria Vs. Cameraman Cam
"Raboot, go!" I shouted.
"You're up Klink!" Out came a pair of gears with eyes.
Klink (ギアル)
#113
Steel Type
Gear Pokémon
1'00" (0.3 m)
46.3 lbs (21 kg)
The two minigears that compose this Pokémon are closer than twins. They mesh well only with each other.
"Use Ember Raboot!" Raboot fired a flame at Klink, doing lots of damage to it.
"Come back with Thunder Shock!" Klink shot a jolt of electricity at Raboot. Toxel saw this and started charging its own electricity.
"Wow Toxel! You're trying to use Nuzzle! Raboot, use Double Kick!" Raboot kicked Klink twice, knocking it out.
"Sorry, I'll delete the footage."
"So Toxel," I said. "What do you thi-"
Toxel had wandered off. It was near some holes. Out from one of them was a white Pokémon with brown legs called Nincada.
Nincada (エレズン)
#104
Bug/Ground Type
Trainee Pokémon
1'08" (0.5 m)
12.1 lbs (5.5 kg)
It can sometimes live underground for more than 10 years. It absorbs nutrients from the roots of trees.
Every time Toxel dove for a Nincada, it popped back down into a hole. "Still finding out about the world, huh?" In all the excitement, I forget that Toxel was a baby at the end of the day. "Okay, how about we get some lunch?" Toxel started crawling towards a tree. There was an apple underneath. "That would be good for you!" I went over the apple and picked it up. "It looks ripe, on the first glance at least. Let's look for bruises and if it's good, we'll mash it up and feed it to you."
Just then, the apple forced its way out of my hand. Two eyes sprouted from the top and a tail and the back.
Applin (カジッチュ)
#205
Grass/Dragon Type
Apple Core Pokémon
0'08" (0.2 m)
1.1 lbs (0.5 kg)
It spends its entire life inside an apple. It hides from its natural enemies, bird Pokémon, by pretending it's just an apple and nothing more.
"Go Rookidee!" I shouted. Rookidee darted forward with its beak, hitting Applin for a lot. "Hey, that was Pluck!" Applin then came back with Astonish. It didn't do a lot. "One more Pluck!" Rookidee finished off Applin with one more Flying Type attack.
"Sorry about that Toxel," I said. "But we'll find you an apple." Toxel looked like it was going to cry. "How did Mum deal with me like this? Okay Rookidee, let's-"
Rookidee was starting to evolve! After the glowing died down, it was a black and blue Pokémon with a longer beak.
Corvisquire (アオガラス)
#022
Flying Type
Raven Pokémon
2'07" (0.8 m)
35.3 lbs (16 kg)
Smart enough to use tools in battle, these Pokémon have been seen picking up rocks and flinging them or using ropes to wrap up enemies.
Rookidee -Lv 18- Corvisquire
"Alright Corvisquire!" I said.
"WAAAHHH!" Toxel shouted.
"It's really starting to get hungry," I said. I looked up at the tree and saw a nice apple at the top. "Corvisquire, could you get it please?" My newly evolved Pokémon flew up, plucked it off the tree and came down to me. "Yep, no Applin in this one."
I got out the camping equipment. I started by chopping the apple into slices. Then, using a mortar and pestle, I crushed the apple into chunks. I put some of it on a spoon. "Okay Toxel, here comes the Aerial Ace." I brought the apple chunks over and, when its mouth was open, I put the spoon inside, resting it on Toxel's tongue. Toxel chomped down and I took the spoon out. Toxel smiled. "I think Toxel likes it."
After lunch, we all packed up. "Okay, let's do some more training. Toxel, we would like to get you to a good level. Hulbury's Gym Leader, Nessa, uses Water Types. Your Electric Type Nuzzle move will hopefully come in handy there. So please don't get distracted with this next battle, okay?"
I went over to a Pokémon Breeder. "Hey, isn't that the Toxel we raised?"
Gloria Vs. Pokémon Breeder Adrian
"Go Stufful!" Adrian shouted. Out came a pink Pokémon with a tag on its… behind.
"Corvisquire, I choose you!" I shouted. "Use Pluck!" Corvisquire gave Stufful a big jab with its beak.
"Payback Stufful!" Stufful surrounded itself with black energy, then charged into Corvisquire.
"Another Pluck!" This move took down Stufful.
"Good one. Next up, Ralts!" Ralts was a white and green Pokémon with a red horn on its head.
Ralts (ラロトス)
#120
Psychic/Fairy Type
Feeling Pokémon
1'04" (0.4 m)
14.6 lbs (6.6 kg)
If its horns capture the warm feelings of people or Pokémon, its body warms up slightly.
"Can you keep going?" I asked Corvisquire. It looked back and nodded. "Pluck again!" Corvisquire jabbed at Ralts.
"Ralts, hit it with Psybeam attack!" Ralts fired pink energy at Corvisquire. It was confused on impact.
"Oh no!" I shouted. "Try another Pluck!" Corvisuqire hurt itself.
"And now use Disarming Voice!" Ralts shouted, firing pink soundwaves at Corvisquire.
"Pluck!" Thankfully, Corvisquire managed to get in one final move. Ralts was finished.
"Okay. So that's how it'll be. Go Cutiefly!"
Seeing this Pokémon, I planned on keeping out Corvisquire. However, the confusion was concerning me. "What to do?" I asked. Just then, I saw Toxel get up. It started shouting. "You want to give it a go? Okay then! Toxel, I choose you!" Toxel crawled onto the field as I recalled Corvisquire.
"Cutiefly, Fairy Wind!" Cutiefly blew a shiny gust at Toxel. It didn't do much at all.
"Come back with Acid!" Toxel fired some green liquid at Cutiefly. When it hit, its Sp. Defense fell.
"Fairy Wind again!" Thankfully, this one missed!
"Finish with Acid!" Toxel shot one last bit of liquid at Cutiefly. It was down!
"You've trained that Toxel very well!"
"You did it!" I said, picking up Toxel. "Welcome to the team!" I looked at the bridge ahead. "Let's call it a day. It's been busy. Tomorrow, we will reach Hulbury, where Toxel will make its debut!"
