Exploring the Forgotten Sector Part V
Date: February 14, 173 BBY, Time: 10:30 A.M., Location: Xeloria Prime, Xeloria System
The Celestial Voyager emerged from hyperspace, its sleek hull slicing through the darkness as it entered the Xeloria system. Before them loomed Xeloria Prime, a verdant planet of vast, unspoiled forests and shimmering blue seas. Chasin Momeoran, flanked by his family, took in the view, his mind already focused on their next expedition.
"We're approaching the research outpost, Terminus 03," Chasin announced, steadying the ship's course. Glancing at his wives, he could feel their shared anticipation.
Pulchra Domine busied herself securing the medical supplies in preparation for the upcoming excursion. "I hope the team's alright. It's been weeks since our last check-in," she remarked, her voice laced with concern. "They've been working on the remnants of an ancient Sith military outpost. It's hard to predict what they might've encountered."
"Especially if they've started tapping into the Sith data-core." Mugruco added thoughtfully. "If they've managed to uncover anything about Darth Malgus' operations in the Unknown Regions, we could be looking at a trove of information. His campaign left marks across forgotten sectors, and Xeloria might be one of them."
Seated nearby, Sahaz Lor was engrossed in holo-screens detailing the unique fauna reported on Xeloria Prime. "The wildlife here is supposed to be extraordinary. I'm curious to see if any local species have adapted around the Sith ruins," she mused, her feline features alight with excitement.
The hyper-drive disengaged, and the stars returned to their steady brilliance. Chasin adjusted their course, descending toward Xeloria Prime and aiming for the dense forest canopy that concealed Terminus 03.
Time: 10:40 A.M.
The landscape of Xeloria Prime unfolded beneath them—a lush, unspoiled expanse where nature had all but consumed the remnants of ancient stone structures. As they neared the outpost, Pulchra gazed out, scanning the ruins that dotted the landscape. "It's amazing. The Sith outpost's architecture blends right into the terrain," she said with fascination.
"Landing procedures initiated," Chasin called as the shuttle began its descent. The engines hummed as they settled down gently in a clearing beside the outpost, the soft light of the forest filtering through the view-port.
Time: 10:45 A.M.
They stepped out into the warm, humid air, greeted by the fragrance of wild vegetation and the distant calls of exotic creatures. It was a planet alive, vibrant, and untouched.
"Elara and her team should be inside the main facility," Pulchra noted, leading the way through the dense undergrowth toward Terminus 03.
The group walked carefully, noting the scattered tools and equipment around the entrance. Chasin felt a twinge of concern as they approached the research outpost's hub.
Time: 10:55 A.M.
Inside, they were welcomed by Dr. Elara Verin, the lead researcher. Relief and excitement played across her face as she greeted Chasin and his family. "Thank the stars you're here. We've found something... remarkable," she began, beckoning them toward a holo-projector.
Elara activated the projector, and a holographic layout of the ancient Sith installation flickered to life. "We discovered a data-core beneath the main complex. This isn't just a standard outpost. It's a command center, possibly linked to Darth Malgus' efforts to conquer and map the Unknown Regions."
Chasin leaned in, studying the projection. "If this data-core contains Sith tactical data, it could provide a window into their strategy in the sector. Have you tried accessing it?"
Elara sighed, her expression growing serious. "We've encountered some... difficulties. The defense systems are still active and more sophisticated than we anticipated."
Pulchra's brows knit together. "Are they secure? We can't afford any injuries."
Elara nodded. "We've kept the team safe, but the defenses react to any close interaction with the core. It's like a pulse—almost as if it's scanning anything that approaches."
"Interesting…" Mugruco murmured. "Perhaps the Sith programmed a fail-safe, a mechanism that responds to certain frequencies."
Sahaz tilted her head thoughtfully. "I noticed some unusual wildlife behavior near the ruins when we landed. It's possible the creatures here are sensitive to whatever energy is coming from the core. We might be able to use that to our advantage."
Time: 11:10 A.M.
Together, they set out to observe the wildlife near the ruins. The area around the outpost was alive with creatures of vibrant colors and bioluminescent markings, their movements surprisingly coordinated.
Sahaz crouched beside a small, crystalline-scaled creature that was emitting a low-frequency hum. "Look at this one," she whispered, beckoning the others over. "It's communicating with the others, almost like it's sending signals."
Mugruco's lekku twitched with excitement. "These creatures might be responding to the residual energy from the Sith installations. If we could replicate this sound, perhaps it would bypass the defense systems."
Chasin nodded, already formulating a plan. "Let's gather audio data from these creatures. If their signals can get through, we might be able to project them back to neutralize the defenses."
Time: 11:50 A.M.
As they recorded data, the forest around them hummed with life. Chasin felt a sense of calm purpose, grounded by the presence of his family. This expedition wasn't just about discovery; it was about preserving the galaxy's history and navigating its mysteries as a family.
Pulchra checked the perimeter, ensuring the team was in position. "We're all set. No matter what we face, we're ready for it," she assured the group, her voice steady with confidence.
Time: 12:10 P.M.
Returning to the outpost, the Momeorans uploaded their findings. With their new data, Chasin and Mugruco carefully adjusted the signal to match the frequency emitted by the wildlife. As they prepared to deactivate the defenses, Chasin felt the weight of responsibility—and the thrill of uncovering history.
"Everyone, stay on guard," he called out. "Let's make history, but safely."
The team watched, tense and hopeful, as Chasin activated the modified signal. The ancient structure emitted a faint pulse in response, then slowly powered down. The way to the data-core was clear.
For Chasin and his family, this was only the beginning. Xeloria Prime had kept its secrets hidden for centuries, but now, thanks to the Momeorans, those secrets were on the verge of revelation.
Time: 12:30 P.M., Location: Xeloria II, Xeloria System
As the Celestial Voyager approached the immense gas giant, Xeloria II, Chasin Momeoran marveled at the sight. The swirling, multicolored bands of gas formed a kaleidoscopic panorama across the planet's atmosphere. Xeloria II was the second planet in the rediscovered Xeloria System, a site now brimming with scientific intrigue and potential wealth due to its rich gas composition and surrounding asteroid belt.
Xeloria II had recently been scouted by Chasin's corporate team of adventurers and scientists, who had established a series of outposts both around the gas giant and within the asteroid belt on the outskirts of the system. The purpose of these outposts was to gather data on potential resources and determine if the planet's gases and asteroids held materials that could be harvested and sold on the Galactic market.
12:45 P.M. – Orbit Around Xeloria II
"Setting us in orbit around Xeloria II," Chasin announced, his gaze fixed on the display showing the planet's turbulent clouds.
Pulchra Domine secured the nearby equipment and glanced at her husband. "The radiation levels are within safe limits for our outpost personnel, but let's still keep track in case of any unexpected spikes. Gas giants like this are known for sudden ion storms."
Chasin nodded. "Good thinking. Let's keep a close watch on the atmospheric data."
Mugruco leaned forward with her eyes alight. "There's something exhilarating about this place. Xeloria II must have been visible to explorers of ancient times. Imagine the awe it inspired, its colors reflecting like liquid jewels across the system."
Sahaz Lor watched the stormy landscape on the display with wonder. "If life could adapt to this harsh environment, it would have to be unlike anything we've seen before. Perhaps in the upper cloud layers?"
The Celestial Voyager's sensors beeped, indicating the presence of their first research outpost, Haven Station-02, located just above the upper cloud layers. The station served as a research hub for studying the planet's atmosphere and refining techniques to extract rare gases, like Tibanna gas, which was highly valued in the galaxy for its use in blasters and hyper-drive cooling systems.
1:00 P.M. – Onboard Haven Station-02
Chasin and his wives made their way to the airlock and boarded Haven Station-02. They were greeted by Dr. Tash Verin, the lead gas engineer, who had been stationed on Xeloria II for the past month.
"Welcome to Haven Station-02!" Dr. Verin's voice held a mixture of excitement and exhaustion. "You've arrived at a good time. We're running final tests to determine the feasibility of harvesting Tibanna gas from Xeloria II's atmosphere. If our readings are correct, this could be a game-changer for the Outer Rim economy."
Pulchra smiled. "What's the station's status? And has the crew had any health issues?"
"None, thanks to the careful prep work. We're maintaining a safe altitude, away from the heaviest storms, but we have encountered increased electrical activity in recent days. It's slowed us down slightly."
Mugruco glanced over at the terminal displaying atmospheric data and noticed the storm levels below the station. "I wouldn't be surprised if the storm activity is seasonal, much like on Bespin. Historical accounts suggest that gas giants go through cycles of intense weather. Maybe it's something the ancient explorers didn't fully document."
Chasin, reviewing the data on potential gas yields, looked at Dr. Verin. "How likely are we to find viable deposits?"
"We're optimistic," Verin replied. "Xeloria II's atmosphere is filled with heavy gases, and we're recording a higher-than-expected concentration of Tibanna mixed with traces of exotic compounds. If refined properly, this could be one of the more lucrative gas mines in the sector."
1:30 P.M. – Departing for the Asteroid Belt
With their inspection of Haven Station-02 complete, the family returned to the Celestial Voyager. As the ship broke free from Xeloria II's gravitational pull, Sahaz reviewed the environmental scans.
"Imagine what creatures could live in the deeper clouds!" she mused. "If Xeloria II has any living organisms, they'd likely have unique adaptations to cope with the intense pressures and gases."
"We'll keep monitoring," Chasin assured her. "But for now, we have a new destination."
The ship navigated toward the system's outer edge, where the asteroid belt encircled the star. This belt contained a dense collection of rock and ice fragments, remnants of a shattered planet or a primordial formation process, each asteroid a potential source of rare metals and minerals.
2:15 P.M. – Entering the Asteroid Belt
The asteroid belt was a dangerous maze of rotating rocks, each with its own erratic trajectory. Chasin skillfully piloted the Celestial Voyager through the field, using scanners to map out larger mineral-rich asteroids that might be worth further investigation.
"Our corporate team has set up a small outpost, Terminus A-12, on one of the larger asteroids in this sector," Chasin informed his family. "Their main task has been analyzing the mineral content to see if it's worth establishing a mining operation."
As they approached Terminus A-12, Pulchra looked at the displays with growing interest. "These readings show high levels of neutronium. If it's stable, it could be used in reinforced hulls and shielding material."
The Celestial Voyager docked with the outpost, and Chasin and his wives suited up to venture into the facility. They were met by Nym Jaska, the outpost's lead geologist.
"Welcome to Terminus A-12! It's an honor to have you here," Jaska said. "We've uncovered some promising deposits. High concentrations of neutronium and phrik are present, but extraction has proven challenging due to the asteroid's composition and the belt's unpredictable conditions."
Sahaz studied the rocky surface through the view-port, intrigued by the idea of rare minerals hiding within these cold, drifting stones. "If phrik is here, that could be invaluable. It's one of the few materials that can withstand light-saber strikes. This belt could be a strategic asset if we can safely mine it."
