Sam and Ellie were downstairs talking about the damage to Jupiter and the history with their older version of Jupiter before she joined with Arnold. He told her about the controls getting stuck on a training exercise and then Ellie looked at him and asked him. "What happened to Jupiter after that?"
"Well… I had to book Jupiter for a refit and then we got called out to Bella's cafe because Mike was on the roof with no ladder during a neighborhood watch."
"Who started that Neighborhood watch program?"
"Station Officer Steele did. Apparently, crime rates were high and Pontypandy was soon next on the list. We started it immediately."
"Really?"
"Yeah."
Sam and Ellie were about to talk about Jupiter some more when Penny walked in. She was getting the shopping list off of the counter for the Christmas Eve Party at the Fire Station. Penny knew there wasn't enough at the cut-price store and that she needed to get to Cardiff. The shop was open and Penny needed to get there before the snow could block her from getting there. "Oh, hey, Penny. Can you by any chance find some pain meds for Ellie in case Helen didn't have any for her?" Sam asked.
"Yeah… Sure. I'm heading to the store anyway. I'll stop by the pharmacy on my way over. Ok?"
"No problem. Stay safe out there."
"You too."
Penny went down to find Venus in the Garage and then she left for Cardiff. The time shows about 12:00 in the afternoon and then she realized that the cold weather was hitting Pontypandy and that the snow was falling to the ground. Penny drove though several roads covered in snow and then she came across Newtown.
Back on the mountain,
Sarah was hiding from Mandy who was looking for them with snowballs. She was waiting to see if she could find her way out of Mandy's way in order to be the last one found. Mandy later spotted Hannah and she threw the snowball right at her. "Got you, Hannah!" She shouted.
"OH! Mandy. You got me on that one."
"Did I? Well… I wonder where Norman, Sarah, and James are."
"I don't know. We'll have to keep looking for them."
"Where do you think Norman has got to?"
"Let's try the west of Pontypandy Mountain."
"Good idea."
Hannah and Mandy went to find Norman and James. They were just about to head towards the west of Pontypandy Mountain when Mandy saw Sarah. "Wait a minute…" Said Mandy.
Mandy threw her snowball at Sarah and she was found in an instant. "Wow, Mandy. You found me… Um… Where's James?" Sarah asked.
"No idea, Sarah. We're going to find them. Wanna join us?"
"Yeah… Sure…"
Sarah was worried that James may have gotten lost in the snow while playing hide and seek. He wasn't alone since Norman was also missing and they were in the snow which is getting deeper by the hour. They needed to find them before the snow causes more trouble for them.
Out in Cardiff,
Penny had arrived at the shops in Cardiff. She arrived at ASDA (UK version of Wal-Mart in the United States) where she needed to get the items for the Christmas dinner. As she was on duty, Venus was allowed to park in the Fire Lanes without any problem and Penny walked into the shop. She found a trolley since there was a lot she needed. As Penny was looking around, she saw one of her old friends from the time they were in the Fire Academy. "Jason?" She asked.
"Penny? Is that you?" he replied.
"Yeah, it is. Who else would know someone from their time at the Fire Academy."
"Yep, that's me."
"How have you been?"
"Ah, could've been a great day for me."
"Why? What's up?"
"I recently left the Fire Service in Newtown."
"What happened?"
"Their house in Newtown for the Service was lazy… and their Chief Fire Officer wasn't happy almost every time Pontypandy had a problem with Elvis."
"What? You mean Boyce?"
"Yeah, that's him."
"We all know how he is sometimes."
"How about you? What brings you to Cardiff?"
"Ah, well. Just doing some shopping for the firefighters and the Christmas Dinner in Pontypandy tonight."
"Is it Christmas Eve already?"
"Yeah, it is."
"Well, I better get to the Fire Station. I recently transferred to South Wales Fire and Rescue Service."
"Really?"
"Yeah. See you later, Penny."
"Later, Jason. Oh… Do you happen to know where I might find the turkey?"
"Yeah. It's over in the frozen section. Check by the chicken."
"Thanks."
Jason left for the register to pay for the items he brought and Penny went back to her shopping. She went to find the turkey and then she came across the Aisle where all the tea bags were and picked up some for Station Officer Steele. She checked the list and then went to the Frozen section. The turkey was waiting for her and it was a big one. Penny knew that Sam has to help everyone with the turkey as it can be a fire hazard.
Back in Pontypandy,
Elvis was organizing the lockers for Jupiter until they get their regular truck back. Helen was just arriving and she saw Elvis. Sam came down with Ellie in tow behind him. "Ah, Sam. I just heard… What happened to Jupiter?" Helen asked.
"Long story, Helen. I think Elvis might be to blame."
"He actually is, Sam." Ellie added.
"Oh… Right. Sorry, Ellie."
"No need to apologize, Sam. It's him who should be sorry."
"Anyway… I'll be covering for Ellie while she's on light duty. Is that right?" Helen told Sam.
"Why, yes, Helen. Station Officer Steele needed you here because you're the only one with the Mountain Rescue Ambulance in case of a search and rescue call."
"Anyway. Is he up in his office?"
"Yeah… He is. Penny's out shopping at ASDA apparently. Dilys has run out of all the other food items on her shelves. Tom's gone to fetch some for her and the customers."
"Right…"
Helen and Sam went to Station Officer Steele's office where he was reading the files of any maintenance backlogs from years ago. He came across one for Jupiter which had the ladder control damage in 2003 and he heard Sam and Helen walk in. Ellie went off to find Arnold in the kitchen. "Yes, Sam?" Steele called.
"Er… Sir. I was wondering if we could have a second firefighter since Helen is on Search and Rescue. Anyone you have in mind?"
"Well… Let me see…"
"I have a… Jason Miller… He is currently on a floater slot in Cardiff until a permanent assignment is found."
"I'm sure he will do fine."
"Well, Let's hope so, Sam. Penny's out shopping and I hear that she went to ASDA. Is that right?"
"Yes, sir. She did."
"Well, I hope she can make it home in time. The snow here is getting deeper."
"My word… How can it be deep that fast?"
"I have no idea… I'll call the weather station at Cardiff Airport."
"I'll get Moose to search the mountains to make sure no one else is there."
Sam called Moose up in the mountains while Station Officer Steele called the weather station. They think that a snow storm was on the way and Trevor had trouble getting to Newtown. It was going to be a long day because they don't know if anyone will make it home for Christmas in time.
Back in Cardiff,
Penny had found the items she was looking for that the firefighters needed for the Christmas Dinner. She looked at the time and it was 3:00 in the Afternoon and she needed to get home in time. She was now at the register to pay for the items. Almost everything was paid for. "So, uh… Are you enjoying the Christmas holidays so far?" Asked the cashier.
"Yeah… I just encountered a close friend who was at the academy with me."
"Ah, no way. I just met him earlier. He told me the same thing."
"Really?"
"Yeah. he tells me that you were a lot better at it than some others. You were at the top of the class. What station are you at now?"
"I'm actually in the Pontypandy Station."
"No way… Are you serious? You work with Fireman Sam?"
"Yeah, I do… He's such a nice guy. He is one of the best."
"Anyway, here's the receipt, my love."
"Thank you so much. Have a Happy Christmas."
"You too."
Penny had paid for all the items and she arrived at Venus who was still parked in a loading zone in case there was an emergency. She loaded the groceries in Venus and then stored the trolley in its original spot. Just as Penny was about to get in, she heard someone call for help. "HELP!"
Penny sprinted across the car park of ASDA and saw a car where a woman was standing there stuck to the car. Her hands were like ice after something had happened. "Are you alright, Madam?" Penny asked.
"I-I'm fine… It's just… My hand… is stuck…"
"Hey, hey, hey… It's ok… I'm a firefighter."
"You are?"
"Yeah… I'm gonna get you out of there. Ok? I'll bring my vehicle round and I'll soon have you free."
"Ok…"
Penny raced to Venus and got in the cab to start the engine. Venus was soon moving to the other side of the car park with blues and twos on. Penny then parked Venus right by the spot where she stood earlier and called for an ambulance. "Control, this is Venus. I'm going to need an emergency Ambulance at ASDA out in Cardiff Bay. I got a woman stuck to her own car. Advise them that the Fire Service is on the scene." She radioed.
"Copy that, Venus. We'll send an Ambulance your way."
Penny stored her radio on the turnout gear jacket and she grabbed something warm to free the woman from her car. She couldn't find anything and then she asked the public for help. "Ok. Does anyone have anything warm so I can free her from the car?" Penny asked.
"I do." A man replied.
"What's in the mug?"
"Tea?!"
"That's perfect. I'm going to need that. I'll pay you back with a new one."
The man handed Penny his cup of tea and then she looked back at the woman stuck to the car. "Hey… What's your name?" Asked Penny.
"Tiffany…"
"Ok, Tiffany… My name's Penny. Alright? I'm just gonna pour something warm to free you from your car. Ok? It might be a little painful, but I will be right here. Ok?"
"Ok…"
"OK. 1… 2… 3…"
The tea was being poured on Tiffany's hand and she was in pain after it had started. Penny was helping her every step of the way and then Everyone was recording this since Penny was on duty helping someone in need of rescuing. They needed to commend her for the brave efforts. It wasn't long until Tiffany was free from her car. "Alright… There we go… You ok?" Penny asked.
"Yeah… Thanks, Penny."
"It's what I'm here for."
Just as Penny was moving her away from the car, an Ambulance with a South Wales Fire Engine showed up on the scene. Penny saw Jason in the truck and his crew came out. "It's alright, sir. Everything is ok. I got her free." Penny told him.
"That was… Amazing… How did you do that?" A paramedic asked.
"Well, I asked if there was something warm and that man right there in the business suit. He had a cup of tea which I will pay him back for."
"Really?"
"Yeah…"
"You go on ahead, Penny. We'll finish off here." the Fire Station Officer of South Wales told her.
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
Penny walked over to the Ambulance where Tiffany was and gave her a business card with her name on it. She wanted her to reach out to her in case something happened and she needs Penny. "Tiffany… I just wanted to give you my business card. My name is on there with the Fire Station I am at. Feel free to call me in case you do need me. If there is a major emergency, always dial 999." Penny said.
"Ok… Thanks, Penny. I will remember you as my hero."
Penny's face was red like Jupiter. She then waved to her and the paramedics and went back to Venus. Penny got in the cab and then left the scene while everyone else was cheering for her as she left and South Wales Fire service and Welsh Ambulance Service were also proud of her. Penny had begun to drive home towards Pontypandy.
