Chapter 4: Build Up

It had been nine months since the doctor's visit. And the inevitable happened.

After all,Men aren't created equal. And those above feel the need to remind those below of this fact.

Izuku: "T-that's mean, Kacchan. C-can't you see he's crying?"

The tiny boy shielded the other child with his own body, arms outstretched.

Before him the three bullies advanced, their faces curling with cruel grins.

Izuku: "I-I-If you keep going, I'll never forgive you!"

Bakugo Katsuki and his two lackeys stood stunned for a moment before bursting into laughter, pointing and mocking. That bully had once been his friend, his best friend, even. How did things go so wrong?

Bakugo: "Even though you're Quirkless…you're pretending to be a Hero, Deku? Still think you're going to be the number 3 hero with your hag of sister?"

Izuku felt his knees wobble like jelly until the fear he was feeling simply melted away, replaced by a sudden, rising bravado. He grimaced and brought up his fists, intent on defending the crying boy and his sister's honor. No one calls his big sis a hag and gets away with it.

Izuku: "At least I'm not the one acting like a villain."

The three bullies grunted in anger, one growing wings while the other's fingers began to lengthen. Bakugo just snarled as he opened both his palms and began causing more explosions, popping noises filling the air.

The three charged, yelling out war cries in their childish voices. Izuku charged right into them with a battle-cry of his own. But before any blows could be thrown, a familiar green aura enveloped Bakugo and his lackeys.

Bakugo: "H-Hey!"

Bakugo yelled in frustration as he struggled to move but couldn't even wiggle his fingers which just served to piss him off more.

Bakugo: "WHAT'S GOING ON?! WHOEVER DOING THIS BETTER STOP IT RIGHT NOW!"

Izuku: "U-Uh…"

Izuku stuttered as he backed away a bit, the kid that Bakugo was previously beating up quickly running away as Izuku bumped into something.

Turning around, Izuku looked up and saw his big sister Tatsumaki using her psychic powers to keep the mean kids at bay. Not expecting her to be here, Izuku quickly clung onto her leg.

Izuku: "Tatsu!"

Putting away her glare, Tatsumaki put on a worried look and quickly went to hug her little brother while still having Bakugo and his lackeys stuck.

Tatsumaki: "Are you okay Izuku? Those little brats didn't hurt you right?"

Izuku: "No, I'm fine. What are you doing here?"

Tatsumaki: "I had some time off and thought I'd come visit."

Tatsumaki gave him a small smile and pinched his cheeks, drawing a tiny giggle from her little brother. Tatsumaki then put her glare back on as she looked at the kids she trapped.

Raising up a finger, all three kids screamed as Tatsumaki all gave them a painful psychic weggie, stretching their underwear out greatly and then proceeded to hang them on a tree by their underwear, finally letting them go.

Tatsumaki: "Hang around for a while."

Bakugo: "YOU HAG! LET US DOWN!"

Tatsumaki: "What for? I'm just a hero doing her job of humiliating villains."

Tatsumaki told Bakugo with a glare before sticking her tongue out at him. This served to really make the bratty Bakugo rage even more and scream as loud as he could as small explosions went off in his hands.

Tatsumaki ignored the tantrum and picked up Izuku, holding him close before flying off.

Izuku: "I'm sorry…I just…I just wanted to be a hero…"

Tatsumaki: "…I know."

Fifty kilometers away, a pure white vigilante raised the newly defeated villain high in the air to cheers of a grateful crowd.

Hero. I will be a Hero for you, onii-chan.

Tastumaki: "Mom! Fub-"

Tastumaki: 'Wait, she's still at school and…still mad at me.'

Tastumaki opened the door to her old home and sat Izuku down before calling for her other family members.

Inko: "Tastumaki, a day off?"

Tastumaki: "Yeah, and good thing too. Baku-brat was messing with Izuku again."

That got Inko to run out of the kitchen and scooping Izuku into her arms.

Inko: "What happened? Are you alright baby!?"

Izuku: "Mom, I'm fine. I just…had a little fight with Kacchan, that's all."

Tatsumaki: "You need to stop hanging out with that brat."

Inko: "I don't want to speak badly of Mitsuki's son but I think Tatsumaki is right."

Izuku: "O-Okay, I'll try."

Tatsumaki: "I'll never understand what you see in him."

She sighed before sitting down on the coach and turning on the TV. When it turned on, the channel on was Izuku's favorite show; Hero News Network.

Tatsumaki: "Izuku, want to watch some TV with me?"

Izuku: "Sure!"

Inko giggled as she sat him down so he could run to the coach with Tatsumaki. Since Tatsumaki is here, she'll make some good snacks for the two of them.

All the while, the new anchors were speaking on something that interested both Izuku and Tatsumaki.

"-and word on the street is, crime and quirk beast instances have fallen due to this new Vigilante! She's practically unstoppable, roaming all across the country stopping crime and defeating quirk beasts wherever she goes!"

"Now hang on, why does the public still call her a vigilante? She has proved to be more than worthy of being called a hero in our fine country."

The woman beside him piped up, an amused expression on her face.

"Well, Kamiki-san, an individual needs a hero license to operate legally as a hero. While the little lady does go around saving people and beating up bad guys, she does it all without a license. It's illegal!"

"Yeah, but it doesn't seem to bother her. I mean, she always has the same cold expression on her face. In control. Totally cool under pressure, even in combat."

Even without a name, the siblings knew who the two newscasters were talking about. Nine months ago, a certain Vigilante had started making waves in the Hero community.

White as snow and cold as ice, that was the description that eyewitnesses gave as their voices shook with equal parts shock and awe.

It started out slow; a few thieves beat up and dumped in front of the police station, people rescued from a house fire downtown. Then things started to snowball. Drug dealers kidnapped and thrown in front of police stations, earthquake survivors rescued from tons of rubble.

The vigilante had received many names by the public. Solitude, Jocasta, Guardian Angel, Shakedown, White Queen, Empress, Thundercracker. But the one name that stood out the most was Valkyrie.

It seemed only fitting to name the emotionless superheroine after mythical female figures who choose those who may die in battle and those who may live.

In this case, It was who was to be arrested and who was to be rescued. Unsurprisingly, Valkyrie had never objected to her new name; she hadn't spoken a single word to anyone since her first appearance.

"Now, it's speculated that Valkyrie is mute."

The old man signaled to the younger woman who tapped a button to reveal an image of the vigilante.

"There she is. The 'Unstoppable' Valkyrie. She's never uttered a single word, so it's either she can't speak, or she won't. I'm personally leaning towards the former."

He pointed at the static image displaying Valkyrie in her full glory, a featureless body paired with a gorgeous but expressionless face.

"Ummm, a little risque, isn't she? I mean, she looks… naked."

"That's the keyword, 'looks'. If you look closely, her body is completely devoid of any, ahem, parts. I like to compare her look to the 18+ hero; Midnight. They both share a similar fanbase, ha! It's almost as if she's wearing a full-body swimsuit that melds seamlessly with her skin."

"Perhaps that is her skin."

"Are you suggesting she's a mutant-type?"

"Could be with that Quirk of hers. Also, look at her eyes."

The image zoomed on Valkyrie's eyes, her pupils milky white and seemingly unseeing. An eerie green glow broadcast from her empty gaze.

"Her clouded eyes suggest blindness, but eyewitness accounts clearly state she turns her head to look at objects. Now, about Valkyrie's Quirk, the first thing people notice about her is the super-strength. Seen time and time again in her battles against Villains, her strength allows her to take down the baddies with sheer brute force."

An image of Valkyrie holding up two captured villains by the collars of their shirts appeared on screen, the same deadpan expression still on her face.

"She's strong, but nowhere as strong as the Number One Hero All Might. At least, that's what witnesses have observed. The more prominent power she displays is her apparent Invulnerability."

"Hang on, are you saying she has two Quirks?!"

"Of course not! It's more likely that she has 'super-strength' because of her invulnerability. Here, take a look."

A short video clip began to play with Valkyrie standing motionless in the street while a huge mechanical suit charged at her, slamming its massive metal fist right into her face. The vigilante didn't budge an inch as the fist impacted, while the villain within recoiled in pain, clutching his broken hand as pieces of his exosuit arm crumbled away, destroyed.

Valkyrie shoved the villain roughly to the ground, mounting the exosuit as she straightened her fingers, plunging her entire hand into his chest armor like a hot knife through butter. Then, she began to peel the outer layers of his armor open, the villain within screaming in terror.

"The most interesting theory out there is that it's not really super-strength. The main theory is that she has some sort of tactile telekinesis surrounding her entire body. It's suspected to be the cause of her invulnerability. The so-called super-strength is an extension of the same ability. From what we know, she's completely unaffected by physical forces or any sort of Quirk. A hero even tried teleporting her to safety away from a Villain's energy blast only for nothing to happen. She just weathered the blow without even batting an eye."

"If that theory is true, she's simultaneously the unstoppable force and the immovable object. Goodness, If she were an actual hero she'd easily be in the top fifty at least."

"Exactly! Now aren't you glad she's on the side of Justice? She's so popular, she even has her own fan club- even if she doesn't acknowledge them. She doesn't acknowledge anything, really."

The woman turned to the camera, smiling.

"For all you viewers at home, stay tuned to Hero News Network! We'll be right back after the break. Up next, a special report on the Number One Hero, All Might and his fight with a quirk beast!"

Tatsumaki: "Invulnerability? Yeah right."

Izuku leaned back, humming in thought even as his mother returned with food. Valkyrie, huh?

He wondered how she managed to evade capture for so long. According to rumors on the Internet, numerous heroes have tried to take her down in an effort to stop her rampant vigilantism, only to find her literally unstoppable as she completely ignored them.

Valkyrie only moved to stop villains or rescue innocents from danger. A group of criminals tried pretending to be victims in order to ambush the heroine, only for her to immediately detect the trap and beat them all to a pulp before dumping them off at the nearest police officer she could find.

Needless to say the poor officer was terrified when the vigilante tapped him on the shoulder and unceremoniously dropped a pile of unconscious bodies before him.

Her lack of speech and emotion, It didn't make sense. It was almost as if she was a robot instead of an actual human being, following a strict set of orders.

Some people have even tried to follow her to find out where she lived or rested, only to report that she never seemed to have a fixed schedule. After following her for a certain period of time she always seemed to disappear into thin air, gone without a trace as soon as she left their line of sight. Sure, no one had seen it happen but many suspected she had some sort of teleportation ability as well.

Izuku: "Tatsu, have you ever met Valkyrie?"

Tatsumaki: "No, every time I come close she seems runs away. So I just leave her alone. Why waste time chasing vigilantes when there are actual villains and monsters out there?"

While she said that, Inko gave the duo some nutritious snacks to eat while she cooks dinner for when Fubuki comes home.

Inko: "Hmmm? What hero were they talking about?"

Izuku: "A report on the new vigilante, not a hero."

The boy suddenly paused, looking at his mother, then back to the static image of Valkyrie tearing apart the exosuit on the screen.

Izuku: "Actually, she kind of looks like you."

Now that his mother was directly in front of him, he could make an easy comparison. It was easy to see why he would make the connection. Both women were around the same height and had similar svelte builds. The only difference was the hairstyle and face. Valkyrie's face… she looked somehow familiar but he couldn't place it.

Inko: "Eh? No, no, mommy's not that pretty, or young-looking. Our faces are different. In fact, she looks like what you would look like if you were a girl."

Izuku stopped, his head swiveling away from the screen to slowly face his mother as a strange suspicion began to form.

Izuku: "Mom..."

Inko: "Yes, sweetie?"

Izuku: "Do I have another sister?"

Tastumaki couldn't help but do a spit take from that question. There's no way that's possible.

Tastumaki: "What!?"

Inko: "Wha- Of course not! Don't be ridiculous."

Izuku: "Then do you have a super-secret Quirk that allows you to be in two places at once?"

Tastumaki: "Izuku."

Izuku felt a chill up his spin from the carefully concealed anger coming from Tastumaki.

Izuku: "Y-Yes?"

Tastumaki: "You have no other siblings but me and Fubuki. Whoever Valkyrie is, I'm sure she just happens to look like you. Understand?"

Izuku could only nod. She never seen his sister like this before.

Inko: "Tastumaki…"

And just like that, the moment was over. Tastumaki took a deep breath and petted Izuku's head.

Tastumaki: "Sorry if I scared you. It's just…something you don't have to worry about anymore."

Izuku: "It's alright, I'm more worried about you. Are you okay?"

She smiled before bringing Izuku in for a warm hug.

Tastumaki: "As long as you, mom and Fubuki are fine, I'll always be okay."

Tastumaki: "Now, enough of all that. This is suppose to be my day off, let's have some fun. Want to fly around with your big sister before Fubuki comes home."

Izuku: "Yeah!"

Later that night he dreamed of sailing through the air, the night sky shining with stars as he leapt from rooftop to rooftop with his powerful, snow-white legs. Looking back he could see other heroes trailing behind him, in hot pursuit of something.

Must be a big villain to warrant such a huge response from the heroes, he thought. If he'd just looked a little closer he would have realized the pursuers were chasing him, or rather, the being whom he shared a mental link with.

The connection between construct and creator broke off as Izuku drifted off into deep sleep, Valkyrie dashing across the rooftops as she reviewed his memories.

Valkyrie: 'So Onii-chan stood up for himself today, hmmm. He's making progress, getting more heroic as the days passed. Not that he needs my help to begin with but it certainly accelerates the process. But why was Onee-chan so angry?'

She may have Izuku's memories but she doesn't have her sister's memories. She doesn't know why exactly her looking like Onii-chan is bad but that gives her more motivation to stay away from Tatsumaki. Even if she really wants to meet all of her siblings.

The crack of a heavy switch cut through the night sky as a helicopter overhead turned on it's floodlights, illuminating the area around her.

"Give it up, Valkyrie! Your vigilante days are over, we have you surrounded!"

Valkyrie: 'What to do, what to do.'

Due to her orders she couldn't hurt these people, they were a mix of law enforcement and local heroes. This wasn't the city that her siblings lived in so she was unfamiliar with the environment and the quirks of the local heroes.

Fighting them would be a waste of valuable time and energy. Time and energy she could spend looking for other villains, quirk beasts or people in need of rescuing.

"Come quietly or there will be trouble!"

Annoyed, the girl picked up a nearby brick and snapped it in two, flinging both pieces consecutively at the helicopter with pinpoint accuracy.

The first piece shattered the spotlight into a thousand pieces, while the second smashed into the under-hanging megaphone attached to the Helicopter's nose. The heroes fired, doing exactly what she wanted them to as multiple blasts of different energies converged on her.

The moment the blasts hit her it produced a blinding glare and explosion, the smokescreen allowing her to cut a hole through the roof she was standing on and dropping into the shopping mall below.

As she fell, her form began to change, camouflaging to fit a new disguise, a female law enforcement officer. The police rushed into the building, looking around in vain and never suspecting the vigilante was hidden among their ranks.

If anyone had just taken a closer look or paid a little more attention they would have realized that a certain lady officer looked much too young to be on the force. She stalked off into the night to find new targets, her face cold and expressionless.

THREE YEARS LATER

Fubuki: "Come on, why hasn't it come yet…"

Currently, a 15-year-old Fubuki was pacing back and forth in the living room of the apartment, anxiety coursing through her right now as she waited for the mail to hopefully come. Currently, the middle child of the Midoriya family was waiting for what was easily the most important letter of her life.

Her acceptance letter into UA.

Inko: "Just try and calm down sweetie."

She said with a small smile as she got two cups of tea as well as a slice of cake from the fridge.

Inko: "From what you told me you scored really high in the entrance exam, you really should have nothing to worry about."

Fubuki: "Yeah I guess…"

Despite her mother's reassurance Fubuki was still worried about the whole thing. While she was certainly strong, at least she liked to think she was, she still was nowhere near as strong as her sister. In fact, Tatsumaki's score was the 2nd highest when it came to the practical exam, the only score beating her out being from the number one hero himself, All Might.

And the reason she scored that high was showed as she was currently the 3rd top hero Japan. Something some classmates never forget to remind her of.

Fubuki: 'I can't fail here. Not after what my sister promised the world. Not after what happened to Izuku. Not after all the work I put in. If I fail after all this I…'

But before Fubuki could fall deeper into despair, she noticed her mother about to indulge herself in some cake and quickly snatched it away from her.

Fubuki: "Mom…what did we talk about?"

Inko: "…Cake is a sometimes food…"

She muttered in shame as Fubuki sighed and put the cake back in the fridge.

Inko: "Sorry…"

Fubuki: "Mom, I know things have been…stressful since then…But this isn't a healthy way to deal with it."

Inko: "I…I know I just…"

Inko wiped away some incoming tears as thoughts of the many sleepless nights her son had over the years came into her mind. As well as all the times he'd come home with cuts, bruises, and burn marks. Sadly, Tatsumaki and Fubuki can't be there all the time…

Inko: "Seeing Izuku give a genuine smile is becoming rarer and rarer and-"

Inko was cut off before bursting into tears as Fubuki quickly hugged and comforted her mother.

Fubuki: "I know…I know…I…I hate it too."

Fubuki said sadly as her mother hugged her tightly, Inko gently crying into Fubuki's shoulder.

Fubuki: "But…we just have to find a way to deal with it and…see what the future holds. That's…all we can do."

Inko: "I just…I wish I could do something."

Inko quietly muttered into her daughter's shoulder. Before Inko or Fubuki could say anything more, they heard a soft knocking at the door and both looked in the direction of it.

Inko: "Who could that be?"

Both mother and daughter looked towards the door and saw mail falling to the floor from the mail slot making Fubuki lightly gasp.

Fubuki:"Mails here!"

Fubuki quickly run to the door and hastily picked up the letters.

Fubuki: "Okay, okay, please be here. Bill, bill, junk mail, bill, Izuku's report card probably has all A's again. And…"

No UA acceptance letter has come. In desperation, Fubuki flipped open the mail slot and peaked an eye out at the mailman outside.

Fubuki: "Please, tell you have something else for me."

"Um, nope I don't believe so…"

The mailman said as he checked his bag just to make sure. His eyes widened as he did in fact find something and pulled it out.

"Oh wait, got one more thing. Sorry about that."

Fubuki: "T-Thank you!"

Fubuki said as she took the letter as the mailman slid it through the slot. Taking a deep breath, Fubuki looked at it and hoped it would be the letter she was waiting for.

Fubuki: "Please, please, please…"

Peaking her eyes open, Fubuki saw where the letter was from…

U.A.

Fubuki: "Thank you…"

Fubuki started to breathe a little heavily as she stood up and showed it to her mother.

Fubuki: "It's here! Mom it's here!"

Inko gasped as she looked at the letter and couldn't help but smile a bit.

Inko: "You should check it right now."

Fubuki nodded, gave her mother a quick hug and dashed towards her room. Immediately, she sat down at her desk and placed the letter down. Taking out a letter opener, she opened it up and pulled out some sort of disk.

Fubuki: "What's this?"

"Why hello there Miss Fubuki Midoriya."

Fubuki shrieked in fright as the disk suddenly turned on, causing her to drop it. Luckily it landed perfectly flat on the desk allowing Fubuki to get a clear look. The disk was some kind of projector and was projecting a pre-recorded video of the principle of UA, Nezu.

Nezu: "We're sorry about the long wait, but considering how many supplicates we have it can take some time to record all our answers."

Fubuki nodded as she swallowed her anxiety.

Nezu: "Now first up the written test. Well I am very pleased to tell you that you did exceptional on this part of the exam, in fact your score was better than your sister's was when she took the exam."

Fubuki: "Yes!"

She pumped up her fist with a grin. Normally she hates it when people compare her to her sister, but when it comes to things she actually beat her at, she didn't mind.

Nezu: "Now as for the practical exam…I am delighted to tell you that with your even mix of both villain and hero points, you scored rather high on this part of the exam yourself."

Fubuki gasped as the screen changed to show the scoreboard for the practical exam, specifically the top 10. She needed to get top 40 to pass…and she got 2nd place.

Fubuki: "I…I did it…"

Nezu: "I'm looking forward to seeing you in class Young Midoriya. Welcome to UA."

Fubuki: "I…I did it!"

Fubuki soon felt a goofy grin come to her face as she stood up in excitement and rose up her hands.

Fubuki: "I got into UA!"

"You got in?"

Fubuki immediately tensed up and the grin left her face as she heard an all too familiar voice speak up from her door. Looking back, she saw her seven-year-old brother standing at her door frame, likely having heard everything. Izuku smiled up at his sister, but Fubuki could see that it was a sad smile.

Izuku: "Good job, I knew you could do it."

Fubuki: "Oh, uh t-thanks Izuku."

Fubuki stuttered a tiny bit as she grabbed the projector and looked at him. She knows a part of Izuku was a bit upset, thinking he won't get to follow in Tatsumaki and now her footsteps with going to UA.

Fubuki: "But…ya know it's really not that big of a deal."

Izuku: "Don't say that! UA is a really hard school to get into. Y-You should be proud of yourself."

Izuku told her as he turned away, Fubuki frowning as she caught sight of him using the arm she couldn't see quite well to wipe away some incoming tears.

Izuku: "I'm just gonna…go in my room."

Fubuki: "Izuku wa-"

Fubuki tried to call out for her brother, but she quickly heard the door to Izuku's room open and close. Sighing, Fubuki looked down at the projector sadly.

Fubuki: "I'm sorry…"

THREE YEARS LATER

So just like her older sister, Fubuki spent the next three years studying how to be a hero at the best hero school in Japan, UA.

She did do well in both her academics and hero classes, but she could have gone without the teachers and a good amount of the students constantly comparing her to her sister.

It got worse when she failed to win any of the sport festivals after the first one. And there was Psykos but…she took care of that. Her one and only regret…

Despite it all though, she managed to graduate and soon found herself in a familiar scenario…

Fubuki: "Heh, talk about Déjà vu…"

Fubuki sighed out sadly as she finished packing up her suitcase. Just like Tatsumaki before her, the now 18-year-old Fubuki found her time to move out of her family's apartment.

Despite setbacks, she was still good enough to get her own agency as soon as she graduated. This of course meant it was time she head off on her own.

Fubuki: "Guess it had to happen sooner or later."

With the suitcase packed, Fubuki went off and out of the room she called her own for the last 18-years of her life. Before she opened the door, she turned around and gave it one last look.

Fubuki: "I'm really gonna miss this place."

She muttered to herself before finally telling herself that she was ready for the next step of her life. As soon as she exited the room, she saw her mother and little brother outside looking at her. Inko had teary eyes full of pride and a sad smile, and Izuku's eyes were shadowed by his hair and his lips formed a sad frown.

Fubuki: "Guess it's time for me to leave…"

Inko: "Guess so."

Inko quietly said before she pulled her daughter into a hug. As she cried softly, Inko let out a little chuckle.

Inko: "You think after Tatsumaki I would have been ready for this…"

Fubuki: "I know how you feel."

Fubuki smiled a bit as she happily squeezed the woman that brought her into this world and cared for her for the last 18-years.

Fubuki: "Thank you so much for everything."

Inko: "Heh, I should be thanking you for helping me maintain my figure. But just remember this will always be your home, you're always welcome here."

Fubuki: "Thanks mom, I promise to visit and call whenever I can."

With the goodbyes with her mother finished, Fubuki moved onto her brother and felt her sadness for leaving only intensify, especially after seeing his face.

The years…haven't been kind to Izuku. The world just kept trying to push him down just because of how he was born. Especially Bakugo who just kept kicking and kicking Izuku even when he was already down and was the main reason Izuku often came home looking beat up. But at least he seemed to have given almost as well as he got.

That at least, gave Fubuki some hope. So she wrapped Izuku into a tight hug, giving him all the love she can before she left.

Izuku: "You're gonna make a great hero…"

Fubuki couldn't help but chuckle sadly. Leave it to Izuku to say things like that despite how he's feeling right now.

Izuku: "I'll miss you."

Fubuki: "I'll miss you too, so, so much."

Fubuki whispered into his ear as she held him tighter.

Fubuki: "If you need anything, you can always call me. I'll never be too busy for you."

Izuku: "Okay. Bye sis…"

Fubuki: "Bye little brother."

Fubuki told him before giving Inko one last hug. With her goodbyes made, Fubuki made her way to the door of the apartment and gripped her suitcase.

Turning around, Fubuki gave a sad smile to her mother and brother before waving goodbye. Inko wiped away some tears and returned the wave with Izuku doing the same.

And with that, Fubuki left her old home. As she floated off to her car, Fubuki took a deep breath and muttered to herself.

Fubuki: "He'll be okay…he's gotta be okay…"

And so, time marched on.

7 Years Later…
