Dragomancer:No, I have something else in mind concerning a bow.
thesesignupsneedtodie: Seems like everything is back to normal.
zarmag: As big of an impact as a demigod child of Hera or Hestia if that ever happened.
lrbrenneke: Doubt it. Last thing I need is Alex to become OP when he's already Dante's kid.
Duskbrony94: Oh how wrong you are ;)
Dragonlord001: Yes.
SpringTrapLord: Trust me, it wasn't without it's struggles.
boogbryant98 phs2016: Thanks.
Ezequiel Goni: Oh, I'm sorry, what are Percy and Annabeth? Let;s see. Poseidon is Athena's uncle, meaning Percy and Athena are cousins. And Annabeth is Athena's daughter. Dude... the whole Greek pantheon are related. Zeus married his sister, slept with Demeter, Hades married his own niece, Persephone.
Disclaimer: I do not own Devil May Cry or Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I only own the OC Alexander Redgrave.
Over the next few days, Alex settled into a routine at Camp Half-Blood, a routine he was comfortable with. It felt odd not going out and killing demons, but he figured his dad and aunts would be able to handle things without him. He had wondered why his dad hadn't phoned him, then learned that phone don't work at the camp because of some enchantment the gods put up.
Anyway, Alex's routine was fairly simple.
Each morning, very early, before the sun had even begun to rise, he would go out and find somewhere nice, private and quiet to train his combat skills, to keep them sharp and not let them get rusty. Just because the camp was different from demon hunting, it did not mean he was going to become lazy and let all the hard work over the years go to waste.
Alex would train from five O'clock in the morning until eight O'clock, where he would then go to Ancient Greek class with Percy, and there they would talk about the gods and goddesses that made up the Greek pantheon. Alex had been a little curious and wondered if other pantheons existed like the Egyptian and Norse, but Annabeth told him it was only the Greek gods. Alex had just raised an eyebrow at her and asked how she knew. Did she have proof?
The daughter of Athena had no answer for that one. So the topic of whether or not other pantheons of gods existed was left alone. Curious as he was, Alex didn't want Zeus or somebody smiting him.
After Ancient Greek, next would be breakfast, and then afterwards outdoor activities. Alex excelled in some of the activities, namely archery which was of no surprise to anyone since he showed his archery skills on his first day at camp. Sadly, the same could not be said for Percy when he tried his hand at archery.
Poor Chiron had a piece of his tail snagged by an arrow. Alex had been laughing so hard he fell to the floor.
Afterwards, Percy told Alex how he was awful at foot racing, having been left in the dust by his wood nymph instructor. He made Percy feel better when he told him how he outran the instructor, describing the flabbergasted look on their face in detail, which Percy found funny.
There was also wrestling with the Ares' kids, which Alex found fun especially when he'd win. Although he couldn't help but joke every time Clarisse and Percy wrestled, because the daughter of the god of war would whisper into Percy's ear every time she pinned him down to the ground. His teasing got glares from both Clarisse and Percy, but he just gave a wolfish smirk.
And when Alex had free time in his schedule, he would go up to Thalia's tree and just... talk about whatever was on his mind. He didn't know if she could hear him, thinking that maybe her spirit was trapped or something along those lines. But he just talked anyway, regardless if it made him look crazy for talking to a tree.
On Thursday afternoon, Percy had his first sword-fighting lesson with the Hermes cabin, with Luke as the instructor. Everyone was gathered in the arena, including Alex of course. Luke had asked him to be his co-instructor, seeing as he was very skilled himself and could be of help, to which Alex agreed.
He started with the basic stabbing and thrusting, using some straw-stuffed dummies in Greek armour.
Percy wasn't too bad with a sword in Alex's opinion, but he commented how no blade felt right in his hands. Either they were too heavy, or too light, or too long. Luke tried helping him, but little good happened.
They broke off into duelling pairs for light combat before lesson started. Alex was paired with Luke, which got everyone interested as they had seen the two spar before and wanted to see who would come out the victor this time, as their last spar had ended with them both calling it off due to exhaustion after two hours of sparring.
"Luke's the best swordsman in the last three hundred years." One of the campers had said to Percy. "But Alex may just end up taking that title."
"Don't hold back." Luke advised Alex who had a practice sword in hand rather than Wolfsbane.
Alex chuckled. "I was about to tell you the same thing."
The fight started out fair, with Luke going on offence and Alex going defence as he blocked and parried each of Luke's attacks with no sign of strain. At some point during the duel, Alex parried Luke's attack and landed a knee into the son of Hermes' stomach, causing him to back off.
"In a fight to the death, everything is free when one wants to survive." Alex advised the watching audience.
Eventually, Luke called it off before they could become too exhausted to continue the lesson, and asked Percy to be his partner this time.
Luke showed Percy thrusts and parries and shield blocks the hard way. With every swipe, the boy got a little more battered and bruised. "Keep your guard up, Percy," Luke said, then whapped the younger boy in the ribs with the flat of his blade. "No, not that far up!" Whap! "Lunge!" Whap! "Now back!" Whap!
By the time he called a break, Percy was soaked in sweat. Everyone swarmed the drink cooler. Luke poured ice water on his head. Percy, seeing this, decided to do the same thing. But, when looking at Percy, he seemed all better, as if he got all of his energy back.
"Okay, everybody circle up!" Luke roared. "If Percy doesn't mind, I want to give you a little demo."
Percy had a grimace on his face, Alex giving him a small pat on the shoulder.
Luke told everyone he was going to demonstrate a disarming technique.
"This is difficult," he stressed. "I've had it used against me. No laughing at Percy, now. Most swordsmen have to work years to master this technique."
He demonstrated the move on Percy in slow motion. Sure enough, the sword clattered out of Percy's hand.
"Now in real time," he said, after Percy got his weapon back. "We keep sparring until one of us pulls it off. Ready, Percy?"
Percy nodded, and Luke came after him. Somehow, Percy kept Luke from getting a shot at the hilt of his sword. Percy stepped forward and tried a thrust of his own. Luke deflected it easily, as he narrowed his eyes like in the match with Alex. He started to press forward with more force.
Percy was moving a bit slower than when he started and then out of nowhere tried the disarming maneuver.
His blade hit the base of Luke's and he twisted, putting his whole weight into a downward thrust.
Clang!
Luke's sword rattled against the stones. The tip of Percy's blade was an inch from his chest.
The other campers were shocked and silent. Alex couldn't help the smirk that came onto his face. The more he saw, the more his suspicions were confirmed. Percy had been nearly exhausted before dousing himself in water, and now he was back to full strength after it. There was no doubt, Percy had to be the son of Poseidon.
Percy lowered his sword. "Um, sorry."
For a moment, Luke was too stunned to speak.
"Sorry?" His scarred face broke into a grin. "By the gods, Percy, why are you sorry? Show me that again!"
Percy seemed like he didn't want to, but Luke insisted.
This time there was no contest. The moment their swords connected, Luke hit Percy's hilt and sent his weapon flying and skidding across the floor.
After a long pause, somebody in the audience said, "Beginner's luck?"
Luke wiped the sweat off his brow. He appraised Percy with new interest. "Maybe," he said. "But I wonder what Percy could do with a balanced sword…"
It was Friday, and dinner was in the midst of being finished. Alex had to admit, he has enjoyed the last few days at Camp Half-Blood.
But there was an excitement in the air as dinner came to a was time for capture the flag.
When the plates were cleared away, the conch horn sounded and they all stood at their tables.
Campers yelled and cheered as Annabeth and two of her siblings ran into the pavilion carrying a silk banner. It was about ten feet long, glistening grey, with a painting of a barn owl above an olive tree.
From the opposite side of the pavilion, Clarisse and her siblings ran in with another banner, of identical size, but gaudy red, painted with a bloody spear and a boar's head.
Alex turned to Katie at table four. He asked if the teams were always Ares and Athena, but Katie said most of the time.
The teams were announced. Athena had made an alliance with Apollo and Hermes, the two biggest cabins.
Apparently, privileges had been traded-shower times, chore schedules, and the best slots for activities-in order to win support.
Ares had allied themselves with everybody else: Dionysus, Demeter, Aphrodite and Hephaestus. From what he'd seen, Dionysus' kids were actually good athletes, but there were only two of them.
Demeter's kids had the edge with nature skills and outdoor stuff but they weren't very aggressive.
From Aphrodite, nobody didn't have to worry too much. They mostly sat out every activity and checked their reflections in the lake, did their hair and gossiped. Hell, Silena was the only one Alex saw right now that was actually ready.
Hephaestus' kids were rough looking, and there were only four of them, but they were big and burly from working in the metal shop all day.
They might be a problem. That, of course, left Ares' cabin: a dozen of the biggest, ugliest, meanest kids he'd ever seen.
Chiron hammered his hoof on the marble.
"Heroes!" he announced. "You know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed, and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"
He spread his hands, and the tables were suddenly covered with equipment: helmets, bronze swords, spears, and ox hide shields coated in metal.
Not bad choices, but Alex has long been comfortable the way he is, with his own sword and without armour. He heals quick anyway, though taking a demon attack can still hurt like a bitch. However, he did take a bow and quiver of arrows as he planned his own strategy in his mind.
Percy had a shield that was the size of a large sign, with a big caduceus in the middle, and looked like he could barely lift it. He had a helmet, like all the helmets on Athena's side, which had a blue horsehair plume on top. Ares and their allies had red plumes.
Annabeth yelled, "Blue team, forward!"
Blue team cheered and shook their swords and followed her down the path to the southern end of the woods. The red team yelled taunts at them as they headed off north.
Alex rushed up to Annabeth at around the same time as Percy, who looked like he was almost tripping over his gear, "Hey." Percy said to the blonde.
"What's the plan?" Alex asked, leaning Wolfsbane on his shoulder. Rather than being dressed in the camp t-shirt and those shorts, he was dressed in a gray tanktop, black fingerless gloves, black faded jeans and black military boots.
He really missed his old jacket.
Annabeth looked at him, taking note of his sword, then bow and quiver. "You go for long-ranged attacks from above."
"So perch myself in the trees, got it." Alex smirked. That sounded nice to him. Without another word, he leaped onto a tree and climbed up it, positioning himself within the denseness and thickness of the leaves and branches.
He had a perfect view of the battleground, so to speak.
It was a warm, sticky night. The woods were dark, with fireflies popping in and out of view. Annabeth stationed Percy next to a little creek that gurgled over some rocks, then she and the rest of the team scattered into the trees.
Alex was thankful for his position, because at least he had a view of Percy just in case his friend ran into a little trouble.
Far away, the conch horn blew. the son of Dante heard whoops and yells in the woods, the clanking of metal, kids fighting. A blue-plumed ally from Apollo raced past Percy like a deer, leaped through the creek, and disappeared into enemy territory.
Alex snorted. 'I can run faster.'
Nothing happened much, but then Alex's hearing picked up a growling sound that made him tense, his danger instincts reacting to it. Whatever the source of the growl was... it wasn't friendly nor was it human.
He could also see Percy had heard the growl, raising his shield as if preparing for something to lunge out and attack him but nothing did.
Then the growling stopped, and Alex heard footsteps running off away from their location. Whatever that was, it sounded hungry.
On the other side of the creek, the underbrush exploded. Five Ares warriors came yelling and screaming out of the dark.
"Cream the punk!" Clarisse screamed.
Her ugly pig eyes glared through the slits of her helmet. She brandished a five-foot-long spear, its barbed metal tip flickering with red light. Her siblings had only the standard-issue bronze swords—not that that made me feel any better.
Nocking an arrow on the bowstring, Alex released with deadly precision and struck one of the Ares' kids in the arm, allowing Percy a chance to counter the would-be attack and knock the Ares kid to the ground. However, Clarisse thrusted her spear forward, only for Percy to block that with his shield. But her spear was electric, leaving Percy shield arm numb.
Metal and electricity are not a good mix to touch.
Using a boxing glove arrow, go figure, Alex fired and struck another one of the Ares kids in the helmet, knocking them down to the floor, then he aimed another arrow and took out a second. Shouldering his bow, Alex dropped down in between Percy and the remaining Ares kids, drawing Wolfsbane off his back.
How did his sword stay attached to his back without a hook or anything to hold it in place? Because... magic.
"Good evening." Alex greeted, leaning Wolfsbane on his right shoulder.
"Stay out of this, Wolfy, the punk is getting his just deserts." Clarisse said, glaring at the downed Percy.
"Yeah... sorry, Clarisse, can't let you do that." Alex said and gave her and her siblings the 'bring it on' gesture, his lips quirked into a smirk that would belong on his dad's face. "C'mon!"
"Get Redgrave! Jackson is mine!" Clarisse ordered her siblings and the Ares' kids charged.
Alex twirled his sword and met Clarisse' brothers in a fight while Clarisse herself took on Percy. Alex sidestepped and ducked his opponents' attacks, slamming the end of the guard into the stomach of one of the Ares kids, then grabbed him by the hair and sent him careening into his brother, causing them to tumble. The other three came at the Demon Hunter, one grabbing him from behind but Alex drove his elbow into his stomach and hip-tossed him into one of his siblings, then clotheslined another.
"Ah!" He heard Clarisse scream, making him turn and see that her spear was now snapped apart and had pure rage on her face. "You idiot! You corpse-breath worm!"
She was talking to Percy, who now had what looked like a cut on his arm. He made his move as he smacked her between the eyes with the butt of his sword and Clarisse stumbled backwards out of the creek.
'The water must've given him a boost.' Alex reasoned.
Percy looked over and was speechless by the carnage Alex made on Clarisse's siblings.
Before they suddenly heard yelling, elated screams, both girls seeing Luke racing toward the boundary line with the red team's banner lifted high. Being flanked by a couple of his half-siblings covering his retreat, and a few Apollos behind them, fighting off the Hephaestus kids.
"A trick! It was a trick!" Clarisse shouted, angered at seeing she'd been tricked into going after Percy.
They tried going after Luke to stop him, only it was too late as Luke ran across the creek into friendly territory, with blue team cheering loudly at seeing they'd won the game. The red banner shimmered and turned to silver. The boar and spear were replaced with a huge caduceus, the symbol of Cabin Eleven. The blue team lifted Luke up into the air, while Chiron emerged from the woods.
"Guess we won." Alex smirked and Percy nodded.
"Not bad, heroes." Said Annabeth, making the two boys look around quickly, but didn't see the Daughter of Athena anywhere.
She then reappeared with her cap in her hand and said, "Where the heck did you learn to fight like that?"
It just registered to Alex that she was invisible, with what seemed like her cap being the cause. Percy said, "You set me up. You put me here because you knew Clarisse would come after me, while you sent Luke around the flank. You had it all figured out."
Annabeth shrugged. "I told you. Athena always, always has a plan."
"A plan to get me pulverized."
"Alex was here to help, and I came as fast as I could." Annabeth argued, before her eyes fell on Percy's arm. "How did you do that?"
"A spear in my arm. What do you think?" Said Percy, assuming she's looking at his injured arm.
"It was a spear wound, now look at it." Annabeth said, motioning to her arm, making Percy look only for his eyes to widen.
Seeing the blood was gone, where the huge cut had been, there was a long white scratch, and even that was fading. The boy watching in disbelief as even that began fading, until there wasn't any sign of an injury, aside from his cut sleeve.
"I-I don't get it." Percy muttered, not believing his wound healed in seconds.
"Step out of the water, Percy." Said Annabeth, looking like she was thinking hard.
Looking at her in confusion, Percy did so and immediately felt his energy leave him, feeling his arms go numb again, and would have fallen over if Alex hadn't caught him, steadying him.
"Oh, Styx. This is not good. I didn't want…I assumed it would be Zeus…" Said Annabeth, now looking scared.
"I thought so." Alex nodded. Now it was confirmed.
Annabeth looked at him. "You knew?"
Alex gave her a look. "Every incident he's been in has involved water. How did you not figure out he could be Poseidon's kid?"
Annabeth blushed at that, as she hadn't considered that at all.
Before she could say anymore, a green light appeared over Percy's head, making the two step back and also drawing everyone's attention.
For there was the symbol of a trident.
"Your father," Annabeth murmured. "This is really not good."
"It is determined," Chiron announced.
All around Percy, campers started kneeling, even the Ares cabin, though they didn't look happy about it.
"My father?" Percy asked, completely bewildered.
"Poseidon," said Chiron. "Earthshaker, Stormbringer, Father of Horses. Hail, Perseus Jackson, Son of the Sea God."
Alex's ears twitched as he heard growling coming from the forests, and narrowed his eyes as they scanned the darkness of the trees... and then his eyes locked with glowing ones.
It leaped out of the bushes—an enormous shadow with teeth—but it's attack was rendered useless as Alex drew two arrows on his bow in the blink of an eye and then fired, one impaling the creature though the eyes, the other through the side. It fell over in seconds, dead.
"Di Immortales! That's a Hellhound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't…they're not supposed to…" Annabeth said, not believing a Hellhound was here.
"Someone summoned it, someone inside the camp." Said Chiron gravely, looking around for anyone who could have potentially summoned the Hellhound.
"It's all Percy's fault! Percy summoned it!" Clarisse accused, pointing at the ravenette.
"Be quiet, child," Chiron told her, obviously not believing her.
"it was targeting Percy." Alex said, having seen the Hellhound's gaze on his friend and knew he had been the target. But who summoned the Hellhound? And why were they targeting Percy?
Suddenly, a light appeared above Alex's head, startling everyone. "He's being Claimed!" Someone shouted loudly.
Everyone was now paying close attention, wanting to see just who Alex's parent was. However, what they saw left them all shocked and gobsmacked.
Alex looked up and his jaw dropped as he looked at the silver light, the image of a crescent moon, with a bow and arrow in front of it. There was only one goddess this related to.
"I knew it." He muttered under his breath, but was still shocked that it was actually true.
"There has to be some kind of mistake." Clarisse said, voicing everyone's thoughts as they stared at the symbol.
The entire camp was now there and they just murmured that what they were seeing was not possible. That there must have been some kind of mix up but everyone knew there was never a mix up.
"It can't be." Annabeth whispered as she stared at Alex with disbelief written all over her face. "He can't be hers. She couldn't. She wouldn't."
"She has." Chiron said, finally speaking up when no one else would. Now this explained why Alex seemed so pulled towards Artemis' statue, her cabin, how she was his favourite goddess. He was feeling their connection... as mother and son.
"But her Oath-"
"Has been broken." Chiron said before he, along with everybody else, bowed and Chiron proclaimed in a loud voice as Alex still looked shocked, staring up at his mother's symbol.
"Hail, Alexander Lycaeus Redgrave, son of the Goddess of the Moon, the Hunt and Wilderness, Artemis."
And so, Alex has been claimed. Now things are really getting underway as the quest is going to happen.
