As one might suspect, the acceptance rate for UA High School was only 1 in 300. Four people had gotten in due to recommendation, with another forty-four through the regular exam. Izuku, Katsuki, Ben, Morimoto, and Mayumi had been placed in Class 1-A, one of only two Hero Course classes for that year. Most of the other students were in General Ed, basically a regular high school. There were also Business Course classes and Support Course classes, the latter of which Mayumi was also a part of in Class 1-H.
When the five friends finally got to the class, they looked up to see the massive sliding door with 1-A painted on it in red letters.
"Man, that is a huge door," Izuku noted.
"Probably to let someone of All-Might's size in," Katsuki figured.
"Or someone with a Giant Mutant Quirk," Ben added.
They all got inside and headed for their seats, Katsuki kicking up his legs like a delinquent while Ben took a seat by the window, where he could daydream in peace.
"Take your feet off that desk now! It's the first day of school and you're already disrespecting it by scuffing school property!" Snapped a familiar voice.
Katsuki sneered as he looked up to see Tenya Iida from the Entrance Exam. Morimoto also noticed the girl from his zone arrive from, of all places, the vents, gracefully flipping and landing in her seat without issue.
"See you still got a damn stick up your ass, Four Eyes!"
Izuku, on the other hand, was surprised to see Tenya. Well, he wasn't surprised he had gotten in, just that they were in the same class. It was then Tenya had noticed him.
"Ah, Midoriya! Good to see you again!" He greeted. "Though I'm not surprised we're in the same class. You managed to score the highest on the practical exam. I actually wanted to ask you about something. Did you know anything about the rescue point system in the practical?"
Izuku shook his head. "I wasn't told about it. None of my friends were."
"Oh my gosh, it's you!"
Hearing another familiar voice, Izuku turned to see Ochako standing there.
"I'm so glad we're in the same class! I'm Ochako Uraraka!"
Izuku blushed. "U-Uh, y-yeah! I-I'm Izuku Midoriya!"
Mayumi giggled while Katsuki, Ben, and Morimoto all smirked teasingly. No matter what, Izuku would always devolve into a blushing pile of goo around any cute girl who gave him the time of day.
"If you just came here to make friends, then go home. This is the Hero Course."
The entire class was shocked upon hearing the gruff voice and looked around before noticing a scruffy man on the ground, wrapped up in a yellow sleeping bag like a caterpillar and lying on his left side. He unzipped the sleeping bag and sipped a juice pouch.
"I sensed there was another person here in this classroom," Mayumi noted. "I see you must be our teacher?"
The man nodded and got up. "The name's Shota Aizawa and yes, I'm your homeroom teacher for the rest of your school years here. Head for your lockers and get your gym uniforms. We're starting with a Quirk Assessment Test to see what we have to work with."
The students were completely confused as they got their uniforms from the lockers and headed to the training field.
"Isn't this kind of soon, Sensei?" Ochako asked.
"UA doesn't follow normal course curriculum. After all, you're not just here to further your education... You're here to train to become heroes." Aizawa pointed out. "Let's start with a quick roll call, make sure everyone is here. I'll go in order of student seating."
He took out a course book and began reading through it, making sure his eyes were on the student he was speaking about in question so he got them right.
"Yuuga Aoyama."
"Oui, monsieur." Spoke up the blonde-haired boy Izuku met at the Entrance Exam.
"Mina Ashido."
"Here!" Called a pink-skinned girl with black eyes, amber irises, and small horns.
"Tsuyu Asui."
"Here-kero." Called a girl with long black-green hair and a cute frog-like face.
"Tenya Iida."
"Here!" Tenya called out, hand raised.
"Ochako Uraraka."
"Here," Ochako called out.
"Oujiro Maishirao."
"Here." Called a boy with short blonde hair and a thick muscular tail.
"Denki Kaminari."
"Here." Called a boy with blonde hair that had black lightning bolt-shaped streaks.
"Eijirou Kirishima."
"Here!" Called a boy with spikey red hair and sharp teeth.
"Kouji Kouda."
"H-Here..." Shyly called a boy with a rock-shaped head and jagged mouth.
"Rikidou Sato."
"Here." Called a large young man with spikey dark brown hair and large lips.
"Shouji Mezo."
"Here." Called a young man wearing a blue face mask, speaking through the shape-shifting arms that spread from his normal ones.
"Kyoka Jiro."
"Here," Called a girl with violet hair, her earlobes extending into plug jacks.
"Sero Hanta."
"Here," Called out a boy with tape dispensers on his elbows, as well as short black hair.
"Fumikage Tokoyami."
"Here," Called a young man with a black bird's head, but with regular teeth.
"Shoto Todoroki."
"Here," Coldly said a young man with the left side of his face scarred around the eye, with red hair on that side and white hair on the right side.
"Tooru Hagakure."
"Here!" Called a girl with wavey chartreuse hair with pink specks, bushy eyelashes, and big round eyes with irises that were teal on the outside and yellow on the inside
"Katsuki Bakugo."
"Here," Katsuki called out.
"Izuku Midoriya."
"Here," Izuku answered.
"Minoru Mineta."
"Here," Called out a really short kid, his purple hair seeming to have spheres growing out of it.
"Momo Yaoyorozu."
"Here!" Called a young woman with long, black hair tied back in a large ponytail.
"Benio Toriokoyoshi."
"Yo!" Ben called out.
"Morimoto Tanaka."
"Hey, I'm here," Morimoto called out.
"Mayumi Goto."
"Here," Mayumi answered.
"Tsumi Shudai."
"Hmmm?" The girl with the tail from Morimoto's zone in the Entrance Exam perked up. "Oh, here!"
"Okay, that's everyone. From here on out, your lessons will be much different than the standardized tests you're used to. You'll be receiving practical lessons that will allow you to practice your Quirks and understand their strengths and limitations." Aizawa said. "The Ministry of Education likes to pretend that 'all men created equal' means that everyone is supposed to be born the same, so they hold the strongest students back. But that's not rational. From this point onward, you will be pushed to your limits."
He then turned to Izuku and tossed a softball with a black band around it, the green-haired boy instinctively catching it.
"Midoriya, you got the highest score on the practical exam. What's the farthest you've ever thrown a softball in junior high?"
"Um...I think it was 70 meters, give or take."
Aizawa nodded. "Okay, this time don't hold back when you throw. Put every ounce of your Quirk into it. Anything goes, but stay in the white circle."
Izuku nodded and got in the circle. He took a deep breath, then a windup. The force of the throw created a powerful shockwave as the softball quickly left everyone's sight. It eventually landed, just over seven hundred meters away.
"You all need to know your maximum limit. It's the most rational way of figuring out your potential as a hero." Aizawa explained.
"No way! We actually get to use our Quirks for this?!" Sero asked excitedly.
"This is gonna be so fun!" Mina cheered.
The temperature seemed to drop by several hundred degrees as Aizawa glared at the students, his eyes singling out Mina in particular for saying that.
"You think the world of Heroics is all fun and games? Are you not planning on taking things seriously?" Aizawa never once raises his voice, but the poor girl seems to shrink under his manic gaze. "There is no room for fooling about. Heroics is a battle between life and death. Fooling around means that innocent people will die."
"He's right, you know..." Mayumi pointed out quietly, regarding the accident that required her to be outfitted with Gyrfalcon in the first place.
"I don't think most of you understand, so how about I make it easy for you all? Whoever comes in last will be immediately expelled."
Minoru looked absolutely freaked out, making it clear he was far from physically fit. Some of the other students felt more confident in their chances, especially Katsuki and Ben.
"How can you just expel one of us on the first day? That's not fair!" Ochako pointed out.
"Neither is a natural disaster, or power-hungry villains, or catastrophic accidents." Aizawa retorted. "If you're going to be Heroes, you need to learn how to fight back against that unfairness, and you can't do that by just whining when things don't go your way. UA will be pitching one test after another in an effort to break you. You'll only survive by becoming unbreakable. You'll need to be more than strong... You'll need to be Plus Ultra."
Aizawa's words really hit the students hard. It finally sunk in for them, just how much they'd have to go through in order to become heroes.
"Well...no use in dilly-dallying," Morimoto said. "What's our first test, Sensei?"
The first test was the 50-meter Dash. Tenya's Quirk, Engine, which gave him engines in his legs, and Tsuyu's own Quirk, Frog, which let her do everything that a frog could do, helped greatly in this regard.
"Third Gear was the fastest I could crank my engines up to with this limited distance..." Tenya sighed as he let his engines cool off.
Ochako used her Quirk, Zero-Gravity, to lighten her clothes to run faster while Mayumi, having scanned Tenya's Quirk with Gyrfalcon, produced jet engines from her heels to boost her own running speed.
Oujiro's Quirk was just called Tail but said tail proved to be a powerful and versatile fifth limb while Morimoto turned his legs into those of a cheetah to run fast.
Yuuga went fast using his Quirk, Navel Laser, to blast himself backward. Two good shots got him through the 50-meter mark, just behind Mina, who skated ahead using her Quirk, Acid, an acidic secretion that she could control the solubility and viscosity of.
"Using my sparkling laser for more than a second hurts my poor tummy." Yuuga clarified.
Tsumi got on all fours with a grin, her tail swishing back and forth as dark energy seemed to radiate off of her, followed by her veins pulsing before she blitzed across the track like a bullet. Meanwhile, Ben combined Air and Water to create Foam, which he used to surf across the track.
Izuku combined One For All with Reactive Adaptation, his leg muscles coiling as he boosted at speeds that rivaled that of an Olympic athlete while Katsuki blasted himself across like a rocket with his explosions.
The second test was Grip Strength. Izuku easily aced this one, with a total grip of 560 kilograms. Just behind him was Shouji, whose use of his Quirk, Dupli-Arms, let him reach 540.
Ben turned his arm into pure metal to get a grip of 555 kilos, and Morimoto turned his arm into that of a gorilla to score 539 kilos. Mayumi's cyborg arms reinforced and armored themselves to increase her own gripping strength, granting her 488 kilos. Lastly, Tsumi's arm became more bulky and lined with black fur, getting 540, the same as Shouji's.
"Damn, those guys are monsters!" Sero commented.
Next was the Standing Long Jump. While most students only landed inside the box, several, including Izuku, Katsuki, Ben, Morimoto, Mayumi, Tsumi, and Yuuga, actually flew past the box.
"Way to clown on the rest of us!" Denki complained. "Didn't Tanaka-Kun turn his legs into a jet plane engine?!"
"Forget that, Toriokoyoshi flew on the wind!" Eijirou said. "That's manly as hell!"
Test four was Repeated Side Steps. Minoru actually managed to ace this one, making good use of his Quirk, Pop-Off, to bounce back and forth along the lines at high speed between two piles of his hairballs.
"Huh, that's pretty ingenious," Mayumi noted.
Then the test returned to the Ball Throw. Since Izuku had already done this as an example, he was exempt, with his distance of 705.3 meters being used as his final score.
"DIE!" Katsuki shouted, launching his ball with an explosion at the apex of his throw, getting 705.2 meters. "Shit! Deku beat me by one inch!"
Ben surrounded his ball in an electromagnetic sphere before thrusting his arm out like pitching a shotput, which sent the ball sailing away like a bullet from a railgun, earning him a score of 1027 meters.
Morimoto turned his arm into a large club and threw his ball into the air before striking it with his club arm, sending it flying and earning him a score of 589 meters.
Tsumi began spinning around, increasing her speed with the same dark energy from earlier as it seemed to generate purple lightning. Then, with one last spin, she tossed her ball as the energy converted into kinetic force, launching the ball and earning her a score of 730 meters.
"Note to self...watch out for this girl..." Morimoto whispered to himself.
Ultimately, Ochako ended up blowing everyone else out of the water, but that wasn't a surprise when she could literally send her ball out of the stratosphere.
"HOLY CRAP! SHE GOT INFINITY?!" Denki exclaimed as Aizawa showed the score on his phone.
"Be grateful I have extra balls on hand..." Aizawa grumbled.
"Gotta give the hobo credit; he's tough but fair," Katsuki noted. "But who the hell even is he, anyway? He's obviously a Pro Hero but I've never seen anyone dressed like him."
"Actually, I think I can recognize him," Mayumi said. "He's the Erasure Hero: Eraserhead. His Quirk, Erasure, allows him to temporarily cancel out other people's Quirks so long as he keeps eye contact. He's actually known for expelling students from his class that he thinks have no potential."
"Dang...that's cold-blooded." Ben shuddered.
"I think I've read about him!" Izuku chimed in. "He's been under fire recently from parents who think his actions only limit their children's future. Especially when some of them still become Heroes at other academies, which the parents think means he's short-sighted. Though a recent interview shows that several of these Heroes actually took Aizawa's words to heart, and tried to do better at their new school."
Morimoto nodded. "Which means if the one at the bottom of the pack doesn't show at least some room for growth...Aizawa-Sensei will follow through with his threat."
"Awww, he's not THAT bad," Tsumi said as she skipped over. "He's been warming up ever since he started going to therapy."
"Therapy? For what?" Mayumi asked.
Tsumi put a finger to her lips. "I can't tell. It's private information."
Izuku suddenly felt a chilling presence behind him and turned to see Shoto approaching him.
"U-Um...Can I help you, Todoroki?"
"Midoriya, was it? How is it someone as strong as you wasn't considered for recommendation?"
Katsuki scoffed. "You can't prove your chops by just getting in on recommendation. Everyone knows that."
"You really think it's that easy?" Shoto retorted. "Do you know how many promising students are offered recommendation each year? Iida was also offered recommendation due to his family history but wound up falling just short, so he took the entrance exam instead. Those who are offered recommendations still have to prove they deserve it. And even if they fail, that doesn't prevent them from entering UA."
The two-toned boy's gaze then returned to Izuku, who frowned as he saw the accusatory look in his eyes.
"But I don't remember seeing you at the recommendation exam, and I'm pretty sure you would stand out. And yet you're easily blowing the rest of us out of the water. That much natural talent, and yet..."
"You got something to say?" Katsuki growled as small firecracker pops crackled along his knuckles. "Yeah, Deku and I are talented, but we worked our asses off to get this strong! I don't take kindly to those who think they can only skate by without putting in the work!"
Shoto narrowed his eyes, grabbing Katsuki's wrist with his right hand, causing it to frost over.
"Half of my Quirk is not truly mine. I will never use it, except to counter the part that is."
"Ooh, is there a fight going on?" Tsumi excitedly asked as she leaned over Mayumi's shoulder.
"Considering Kaachan's temper...yes."
Katsuki growled as he grabbed Shoto's other wrist with his free hand, pulling him in close.
"You think you can only become a Hero by half-assing shit, you self-righteous prick?!"
Just then, both of them felt their Quirks disappearing before being wrapped up in Aizawa's scarf. Izuku and Mayumi both took notice that their teacher's eyes were glowing red.
"Well, that confirms it; Aizawa-Sensei is Eraserhead."
"What the hell is up with this shit?!" Katsuki snapped as he struggled.
"It's a carbon nanofiber capture scarf," Aizawa explained. "Knock each other about in mock battles all you like, but there will be no violence against other students during normal school hours. I'd prefer not to use my Quirk too much, I get dry eye, dammit!"
The two boys stood down, and the tests continued as normal, going through sit-ups, seated toe-touches, and a long-distance run. Once that was done, Aizawa gave the students their rankings.
"First thing I should mention...I was partially bluffing. Sorry for the lie, but I had to make sure each of you took these tests seriously."
"What does he mean?" Ochako asked.
"Obviously he wasn't really going to expel the person in last place," Momo pointed out.
"Nah, he would," Tsumi said with a smirk. "Aizawa-Sensei over here expelled his whole class last year, actually. Though Nedzu told him that he is limited to one expulsion per week this year, or he would double his paperwork."
Momo faltered. "O-Oh..."
"That's a gross overdramatization, Shudai," Aizawa said with a roll of his eyes. "I WOULD have expelled the one in last if their score was less than zero but the one with the lowest score, Mineta, actually scored pretty decently. As in, not zero, so no one will be expelled just yet."
"Thank you!" Minoru called out, crying in gratitude as he dropped to his knees.
"Don't think you're not on thin ice, Mineta," Aizawa warned. "I skimmed over your psychology profile and you better not try anything lecherous that will make the female body of this school uncomfortable."
Minoru gulped. "Y-Yes, sir!"
With that out of the way, Aizawa took the time to show everyone's final scores on a holographic scoreboard. Izuku, Katsuki, Ben, Morimoto, Mayumi, Tsumi, Momo, Shoto, Tenya, and Fumikage all made the Top 10.
"Your real training starts tomorrow, and most likely these initial standings will change several times over the course of your next three years." Aizawa said as he turned and walked off.
Mayumi checked a holographic watch. "Oh, I should probably get ready to introduce myself to my Support Course peers."
"Hope you make some new friends, Mayu-Chan!" Izuku smiled.
As Aizawa walked off, he came across All-Might, who had been hiding out in the nearby bushes.
"Your new protege shows great promise."
All-Might chuckled. "I never took you to be so light-hearted. Though Young Shudai did have a point in taking you to task for expelling last year's entire class."
"None of them had real potential. That's why we tweaked the entrance exam this year to make it harder." Aizawa reminded him. "But this class... They definitely show promise. They keep this up, and we'll likely have ourselves a strong new generation of heroes."
All-Might watched as Aizawa took his leave.
"It seems you're still kind in the end. Even if you don't show it normally."
As Izuku, Katsuki, Ben, Morimoto, and Mayumi left the school at the end of the day, they were approached by Tenya.
"That was exemplary work on the tests today. It really showed how far I have to go."
"Oy, Four Eyes. Is it true what Two-Face said earlier?" Katsuki asked.
"Sadly, it is. Only four students who receive a recommendation can follow through on it." Tenya admitted. "To determine who deserves that right, a special test is set up. I was just behind the fourth-place finisher, so I had to make do with the entrance exam. And things certainly didn't get any easier once we were successfully enrolled. I was surprised by Aizawa-Sensei's judgment."
"It's not like he doesn't have precedent. Even if you're Quirkless and relying on an Object of Power, if you don't have any physical capability you'd be creamed by the first villain you fought." Mayumi noted.
"Most villains these days are weaksauce in the body department, so they tend to rely on their power, whether it's a Quirk or an Object of Power," Ben added.
Tenya sighed. "Still, I find lying to be just downright immoral."
"I've seen plenty of cases where heroes had to be deceptive to beat villains. I'm sure even your family's had to resort to such tactics." Morimoto pointed out.
"Admittedly they have. I suppose I'll need to learn how to lie in order to be a more effective hero."
"HEY!" Ochako called out, running up to the group. "Wait up you guys! Are you going to the station? I'll join you!"
Katsuki smirked. "Hey, it's the girl who can throw farther than you, Deku."
"Why do you call him a name that means useless? Is it meant to be ironic?"
Everyone turned to see Le Ultimave, the other boy Izuku met at the Entrance Exam, approaching along with the small pink-haired boy and the tanned girl.
"Oh, did you make it into UA as well?" Izuku asked.
"Yeah, the three of us are in Hero Course Class 1-B," The tan-skinned girl, Wankuro Nikaido, explained with a friendly grin. "There's one more of us but he's a no-show."
The pink-haired boy, Kirby Hoshiboshi, cutely pointed at Izuku and then turned to Le, waving his arms up and down while making small noises.
"Yes, he does look just like Mikumo."
"So that boy I met at the Entrance Exam got in as well?" Mayumi mentally noted.
"Also, to answer your question, when we were kids, Kaachan mostly called me that because I tended to be very clumsy and make mistakes at times. It just...kinda stuck."
"But it sounds just like Dekiru, meaning 'I can do it'!" Ochako smiled, making Izuku blush brightly.
The growing group of friends headed off for the station. They were soon joined by Eijirou, who quickly hit it off with Katsuki, and Fumikage, who was pleased that the others indulged his chuunibyou nature.
"So what do you think they'll have us do tomorrow?" Eijirou asked. "That's when the real battle begins."
"Knowing UA it will likely be a mock battle, but with live targets instead of the robots we had to face in the Entrance Exam," Fumikage suggested.
"Which would likely mean fighting against each other," Izuku noted.
"Asahi-Sensei mentioned, that part of the curriculum involves getting into the mindset of villains, to more effectively fight them," Mayumi said.
Ben smirked. "Something tells me we're gonna have a LOT of fun tomorrow..."
And so we finish our first day of UA, making new friends and also letting Le, Kirby, and Wankuro join the friend group at the end to hopefully get Class 1-B more closely connected with 1-A in the future.
In regards to Ben's Over Element Quirk, he can mix and recompose elements much like in the Naruto series, and bend them like Avatar. You'll probably be seeing him do a lot of Naruto references with his Ultimate Attacks later down the line.
Also, yes, Kirby is mute much like his original game counterpart, save for the cute noises.
Next, we'll handle the Battle Trials, which will take a surprising turn that I'm very sure those who have read My Hero SCP will more than likely see coming.
