Guest: We'll just have to see what we have in store for the League of Villains, Overhaul, and Eri.
Day 402, 8:00 AM
After pulling up to the emergency medical center in the middle of the forest, the ambulance parks in a parking spot as the driver gets out. The one with the stolen dirt bike parks directly behind the ambulance and flips the kickstand down. The driver heads out and is greeted by a man in a surgeon mask and a paramedic uniform.
"Hey, IV." The lead paramedic stops in front of the driver. "What's going on, man?"
"Hey CC, I got one in the back in critical condition."
"But they're alive?"
IV nods. "Confirmed."
"Good. Go get the stretcher and wheel out the body, now."
"Roger that." IV heads into the medical center and a second paramedic wheels out a stretcher.
The two open the back and quickly grab the wounded person and load them onto the stretcher. CC checks their condition before nodding. "We can operate on them but fast."
The second paramedic turns to him. "Don't worry, CC. We already have the doc ready and waiting. Just give us the word."
CC claps his hands. "Xanax, IV, get to work."
The two paramedics quickly wheel the wounded child into the medical center while CC stays behind to chat up with the biker. "Hey, Cardiac, nice ride."
Cardiac smiles. "Thanks, stole it from some punk. This bike is mine now so don't fucking touch it."
CC holds his hands up. "Don't worry, I don't even know how to ride a bike so no complaints from me."
With Kaminari
"Kendo," Jirou continues, "I really think we have a shot here. Please, I just need you to say yes just this once."
"Can you guarantee it?" Kendo asks over the walkie-talkie.
"No, but I still think it is worth the try and that's why we're doing this. Please, I need you to say yes, just this once."
"Just this once?"
"Just this once."
"Fine. But you and I both know this won't be a 'just this once' situation, remember that. And good luck. And if the worst happens, retreat back to the Mister Donuts when you can, got it?"
"Right on, captain."
"Perfect. Good luck, Kamisquad."
"You too, Kendo." Jirou tucks her walkie-talkie away before lowering the volume. "Okay, Jirou gave us the all-clear so we're good to go."
Kaminari laughs. "We were already heading there when that happened, right?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"Hey, it could be worse," Mineta reassures, "at least we're not lying about having an affair; I can't stand it when a man does two women behind another woman's back."
"But are you above it?" Kuroiro teases.
"I believe I am."
"Guys, focus." Jirou walks ahead of Kaminari and leads the group. "This is going to be a long walk - not to mention a shot in the dark."
"I've been here a few times before everything went to shit and my memory is still fresh," Kuroiro replies. "There is an emergency medical center a few kilometers up the way and we can get there in time if we just focus."
Kaminari turns on the GPS on his blue sunglasses to try and find the tracker. "My tracking thinamajig has a limited range so I can only track the bike if we're within range."
"And there is only one emergency medical center within 16 kilometers of us so if we arrive there and your device is beeping, then we'll know that's where your bike is."
"Come on guys, focus," Jirou urges. "If it's 16 kilometers away, we got a long walk ahead of us. Let's move."
Without any more complaining or talking, the students simply walk forward and let their instincts guide them. As they walk, they check the weapons they have in their backpacks. They're mostly armed with knives but that was the bare minimum. Kaminari had a few of his orange discs but he would only need those in case he needed to fry a human at close range, which he imagined he'll do once he finds the guy who stole his bike.
One Hour Later
"I'm telling you, we can save some time if I flew us there," Kenta argues again.
"Have you forgotten? That beast we sent flying over the cliff? What if he's still alive?" Jirou scoffs. "Quirks attract zombies and if the beast is trialing behind us, then once you fly off and touch down, you'll be out of stamina and if you're out of stamina, we gotta wait for you to cool down and by that time, the beast could already catch up with us. We should only use your dragon form as a last resort."
Kenta groans. "Yeah, I guess. Besides, if there's a horde in the area, my dragon form will attract them and we don't have the resources to take on a horde."
"We should've taken a car," Komori whimpers, "but the horde took our home so... yeah."
"Guys, how long are we going to keep complaining about the same goddamn thing?" Kuroiro rolls his eyes. "Like, seriously."
They continue walking down the road and they stop when they reach an intersection. A four-way intersection. They stop in the middle and look around.
Kuroiro steps forward. "Okay, if memory serves correctly, the nearest emergency center should be to the south of us." He checks the road signs. "And there's only one street leading south."
"Sounds good," Mineta snarks.
They take the road leading south and begin jogging slightly before they slow to a walking pace to preserve their energy.
After walking for another thirty minutes, they groan as they realize they made it only one kilometer of the way there and still had 15 more kilometers to go.
They pause when several cars block the road and look at each other in confusion.
Kaminari looks around. "Wait, if cars were blocking the road, then... how did-"
"Tire marks," Jirou points out. "Look, you can see skid marks going from side to side on the ground in the first cars."
The squad spots the skidmarks on the street left by most of the cars with most of them coming to the same conclusion.
"They moved the cars out of the way so they could drive through, probably using their quirk, and then they put the cars back in place. Those skid marks look fresh and there are more skid marks underneath that look to have been around for awhile."
Kaminari smiles. "Nice one, Jirou, totally awesome."
"We'll just go around then," Komori says simply.
"Hang on, I'll go first and clear the way." Kaminari charges for the cars before vaulting to the top. About a dozen cars were blocking the road and all were stacked up against each other so all he had to do was leap from car to car as he used parkour to traverse the environment. He stops only when he vaults to the top of an RV and looks around. He turns to the others after checking the area. "All clear, no zombies."
Jirou smirks. "God, I never get tired of seeing him do parkour."
"Look around," Mineta suggests, "just in case."
"Right." Jirou turns to the others. "Mineta, Komori, search the cars. Kenta, Kuorior, keep an eye out."
They salute before they start their designated jobs. One by one, the perv ball and mushroom girl searched the cars for anything they could find useful while Kenta and Kuroiro kept a sharp eye out for any strangers - undead or otherwise.
Jirou makes her way through the car graveyard before joining Kaminari at the top of the RV. The two of them survey the area all while saying nothing.
"Huh, this is a nice view," Kaminari chuckles.
Jirou scoffs. "Yeah, sure." She steps towards the edge. "If we can get one of these cars to work, we should be able to get a car running and save us some time."
"I can jumpstart a car." He pauses. "But I would have to use my quirk. And that beast that we tossed over the cliff is probably still alive and angry at us so..."
"Yeah. We'll figure it out."
Down below, Mineta uses a rock to smash a window and peer inside. He finds a dead body in the passenger seat along with a toolbox in the backseat. Unlocking the door, he pulls the toolbox out. He finds a hammer inside along with several screwdrivers. He smiles.
"Anyone up for some construction?"
Komori grabs a screwdriver. "Better than nothing."
"Good choice. A monkey wrench is handy but you have to smash a zombie's skull in several times for a kill and not the good kind of smash."
"Screwdrivers are easier to aim with and they don't dull as easily as knives do." Komori tucks the screwdriver away.
"Yeah. I guess you can say, when you bring a screwdriver to a zombie fight, the zombie is... 'screwed'."
Komori chuckles. "That was a bad pun, Mineta."
"I try my best, Komori."
Kuroiro looks over and glares before turning back. "You know, if you really want to be a badass, then I suggest an improvised weapon. Like the hammer. All you gotta do is tape a screwdriver to the front and boom, you got both a blade and hammer."
"I prefer a sledgehammer," Kenta inputs. "Course, I'm the only one who can swing a sledgehammer one-handed."
"Whatever, dragon boy."
Up on the RV, Jirou spots something in the distance. Leaning over the edge of the RV to get a better look, she gasps. "Oh shit," she yells at a moderate volume. "Guys, we got a horde coming our way." She turns around and spots another horde coming in the opposite direction like two waves flooding in from multiple directions. "Oh shit. Get to cover!"
Jirou and Kaminari go prone on the RV's roof and stay quiet.
The others look around and spot the horde coming from both sides before they hunker down.
Mineta and Komori quickly hide under a car while Kuroiro and Kenta run forward. They find a half-open SUV and quickly climb inside. There were two rotting corpses inside and they used that to cover their bodies just in case. Kuroiro is sitting in front of a corpse on the left side of his body while Kenta is in the far back with two children's corpses on his body.
"Masks on," Kuroiro orders before pulling up his black mask.
Kenta puts on his dragon mask as well.
Hopefully, these masks would protect them from catching whatever infection these corpses might have.
"Oh shit," Kaminari whispers, "this is so not good."
The zombies flood every inch of the car graveyard and then the two hordes intercept, they bump into each other before wandering around like a couple of drunk bastards.
Komori and Mineta look at each other in worry and try not to panic as their view from under the cars is blocked with nothing but the dead rotting feet of zombies. Komori tries to stay something but Mineta puts a hand over her mouth.
"Quiet," he whispers. "They'll leave eventually."
In the SUV, Kenta feels nauseous and does everything he can to hold his lunch.
Kuroiro looks over and whispers. "Don't throw up, whatever you do, don't throw up."
It wasn't the smell of the corpses on top of him making him sick but rather the fact that the corpses were children. They couldn't have been older than eight and here they were, rotting skeletons with no heart, life, or even a speck slightly resembling a soul left in them. It makes him think of all those elementary school kids he visited with his school to help with their quirk counseling.
He closes his eyes and looks away, desperately thinking of anything to make him forget about the fact that two dead children were practically glued to his body. He thought of the first thing that came to mind.
Body image.
Yes, think of something that makes you less sick.
But the body image in his mind not only made him feel less sick, it made him feel somewhat depressed.
It's hard to think of something positive in this world.
Medical Center
Looking over the patient before them, the surgeon known as ICU stares them in the eyes in a teal surgeon outfit with a medical mask. The surgeon sighs heavily behind their mask before peeling the clothes off the wounded kid.
"Hey kid, can you hear me?"
The kid's eyelids flutter like butterfly wings before they land on the surgeon. They squint at the overhead light shining on their face.
"Can you hear me? Lift your right hand to indicate you can hear me."
The wounded kid lifts her right hand a few inches off the operating bed.
"Good. My name is ICU." He points to someone they can't see. "And my assistant here is CPR. Can you tell me your name? What is your name?"
The kid groans before closing their eyes. "Rei-"
"What? What is your name? Do you know what your name is?"
"Reiko... Yanagi."
CPR sighs heavily. putting a hand on his heart. "Good, you're doing very good. Do you know where you are?"
Reiko looks around the room without moving her head. "Hospital."
"Yes, that's correct. We found you in a gated community covered by debris. Do you remember that?"
"B-bease, beast."
"Beast? What beast? What do you mean?"
The second surgeon steps forward. "She's probably referring to a tanker.
"Ahh, a tanker. Those motherfuckers are scary as fuck." He turns back to the girl. "Listen to me, you were found covered in debris. A tanker was throwing debris at several houses in a gated community. You spent at least a few behind, buried in rubble. We had to wait for the zombies to clear out - which took all night - to get you out. You're in critical condition; you're suffering from internal bleeding. You need to be operated on immediately before we're too late."
"Shoda," Reiko groans. "Where's Shoda, he... where's Shoda?"
"Who is Shoda?"
"Nirengeki Shoda," CPR answers. "Reiko Yanagi is a student of the UA hero course. She was in Class 1-B and she had a classmate named Nirengeki Shoda. I take it you didn't watch the sports festival."
"Nope." He tugs on his blue latex gloves. "Okay then. Well, she's competent enough to answer questions and she's still in good condition. You know what that means?"
"Yep." CPR rolls a tale of surgical tools beside him. "Get to work."
ICU grabs a few medical instruments. "Okay then, let's get to work." He turns to the student and sighs regretfully. "Hate to say it but there's no anesthesia so you're going to be fully awake during this operation." He holds a scalpel. "Which means, what's about to happen to you is going to be... extremely painful. But I promise that it won't last forever and afterward, you won't feel pain ever again."
He rips the rest of her shirt open and gets to operate on her.
Reiko screams at the top of her lungs before opening her eyes as she passes out. A gloved hand masks her.
"No, we need you awake at all times," ICU urges her. "We need you awake and alive right now. Sorry, but no passing out for you."
Reiko continued to scream at the top of her lungs as the surgeons operated on her, her blood-curdling screams echoing in the small surgeon's room as she struggled and convulsed but CPR straps her down like an inmate being tortured, which is what she felt like. Her face turns as red as a tomato upon feeling her body being torn into and her internal organs now exposed for the two men to look at. Unable to take the pain anymore, she simply passes out but CPR slaps her again to bring her back to consciousness.
The Previous Night
Screaming at the top of her lungs as she tries to pull herself out of the rubble, she puts a hand over her mouth to silence herself after realizing that there was a beast in the gated community. She had no idea where the beast came from as the gates were still locked up like Fort Knox. None of that mattered now as the beast ignores her and heads straight for the mansion where several of her teammates are sleeping. The Kamisquad if memory serves her correctly. She tries to free herself when the beast is out of sight but the rubble keeps her pinned.
That is until Shoda shows up. She and Shoda were supposed to take over after Sero and Shoji during some rotation shifts. She and Shoda got up early from their daytime slumber to get ready for the night and then that bast came out of nowhere, threw a piece of debris at her, and trapped her against a small house under some rubble.
Shoda tried to pull her free. He was about to use his quirk but with the beast within range, using his quirk would almost certainly attract the beast and they'd both be dead so that's when he opted to try and free her using nothing but his hands. He had a small glimmer of hope when he saw Sero approaching them.
"Sero, you gotta help!"
But Sero ignores them. After calling his name a few times, Sero heads over to the front gates. Sticking his hand through the bars, he opens his palm like a baseball player catching a baseball and suddenly, a horde of zombies come for the front gate. Without missing a beat, Sero quickly unlocks the gate and pulls it open, letting the zombies inside.
It didn't take Albert Einstein to realize that Sero was not only dead, but he was the brainiac variant of the zombies.
In a heap of panic, SHoda staggers back and tries to do something before tripping on his own feet and landing flat on his ass. The runners live up to their names and run for him. Knowing that Reiko is invisible to the zombies, he wanders off while Reiko keeps calm and tries to hold in all her screams of agony. Shoda yells for everyone to wake up, to warn them that there is trouble and they have to act fast. The zombies surround him and students come at of their houses to deal with the threat. Shiozaki is already out of the house and helping others to evacuate while Shoda is getting surrounded.
Shoda runs to the middle of the community and tries to tell the others that Yanagi has been trapped under some rubble but he never got the chance. A hand grabs his shoulder a knife slashes his cheek.
It was the undead Sero, who in the confusion, managed to find a knife off the ground, contaminate the blade with his infected blood, and slice Shoda's cheek. Suddenly, four zombies grab Shoda from all sides and hold him still as Sero rams the knife up Shoda's jaw and into his mouth. Shoda screams at the top of his lungs and stares at the undead Sero in the eyes before his life leaves him.
Zombie Sero sniffs Shoda before shoving him back and the zombies consume Shoda where he lies.
Sero looks around and feels the presence of the beast suddenly going over the cliff. Also, someone was using their quirk to fly out of there. This seemed far more important to him than the survivors getting in their vehicles and driving off this very minute. Sero looks to see how many of his zombies are still there with him and holds his hand out, summoning all of them to get up and follow after him. Yes, they were going to follow after him because he said so and he was unashamed of it. They were going to follow him, they were going to find these quirk users, and offer them a choice: if they're not alive, they're dead (one way or another).
Blinking some blood out of his eyes that had been dripping down from his tear ducts like tears, Sero heads for the gate and opens it the rest of the way to allow more zombies to get in.
Meanwhile, Reiko finally loses about fifty percent of her energy to keep her eyes open. She's falling asleep fast and the idea of falling asleep while being surrounded from all sides by zombies terrified her, even as she was covered by debris. With no choice, she finally gives in to her losing battle and goes to sleep.
She jolts back to consciousness but she wishes that it wasn't the case. With the light starting to dial down a bit, her vision comes back and she gets a good look at the paramedics operating on her. ICU sighs heavily through his surgeon's mask before turning to his companion.
"CPR, get the bags ready."
CPR holds up a bag with clear fluids inside. ICU turns back to Reiko. Very carefully, he removes something before holding it up above her head. "It's okay, you'll be okay, Reiko." He places the item in the bag. "What is your name?"
"Reiko... Yanagai..." the ghost girl manages to answer, rolling her eyes to the back of her head as she fights to stay awake
"Blood type, what's your blood type?"
"B."
ICU smiles. "Good work. B blood type. You know what to do."
"Right, doc." CPR seals the bag before heading to an ice chest and carefully sets the back inside. He pulls out a marker and labels the ice chest 'B' before turning back. "Alright, preserved, now what?"
"Now, we get back to work." ICU disinfects a scalpel. "I'll try and make it as less painful as possible."
"Home," Reiko groans, "I want to go home."
"I do too. But... I got a job to do. I'm a doctor and I got a job to do. Please, just, stay conscience for me so I know you're still alive. I know what's about to happen is going to hurt but please, try and stay awake."
"Okay," she draws out but says nothing else.
"Good girl."
With the Kamisquad
After what felt like hours, the zombie horde finally clears out but the Kamisquad stays in their place for a few extra minutes. After everyone decides that the area is clear, they emerge from their hiding spots.
Kaminari lands on the ground with a heavy thud before looking around. "Hello," he calls out in a medium tone. "Everyone okay?"
Mineta and Komori pull themselves out from under the car while Jirou helps Kuroiro and Kenta out of the car.
"We're good," Komori assures them.
Mineta laughs. "Man, any longer, then I would've been asking what do we do if we had to take a piss or something."
"Same here," Kuroiro admits. "But we're good."
Kenta nods hesitantly. "Yeah. Good."
Kaminari sighed loudly to show everyone how relieved he was. "Okay, good. That means, we can get back to our original goal, right?"
"And what was that?" Jirou almost snaps. "Please, remind us."
"Oh... uh..." Now that he thinks about it it, Kaminari completely forgot what they planned to do with this car graveyard. As Kaminari contemplates an answer, rustling int he bushes to his right quickly shuts him up. Looking over, Kaminari leans over a car to look at what might be causing the ruckus. He studies the environment with a hard look and steel ees as his brain rackets and tumbles like a gymnast.
A familiar growl from the woods silences his thoughts as he realizes what's about to attack.
