Rain fell swiftly like cold, dull needles from the lazily rolling, dark gray, nearly black, storm clouds that thickly blanketed the dark, faintly star speckled sky. Rin walked down the wide, pale gray sidewalk, slick and mirror like under her feet.

Her shoulder length blonde hair was hidden beneath under her dark gray - nearly black – hood, causing her well-loved, signature, large white bow to be somewhat smushed. Her bangs were held back from her large, dark blue eyes by three orange hairpins. She loved the smell of an oncoming storm, the ominous flashes of lightning and the low, deep, menacing rumbling of thunder in the dark, cloudy sky. It was frightening yet exhilarating. She stopped, head tilted up and eyes closing in bliss as she exhaled deeply. The crisp, sharp, earthy scent filled her lungs as she inwardly shivered... this, this is why Rin loved the rain. Sure watching the small, cool, swift water droplets fall from the sky to make narrow paths on her apartment window was great all but... she loved the intoxicating, fresh, clean smell! She loved how the world around her became brighter and more… alive!

The girl's eyes opened and a soft, short gasp escaped her pale pink, rose petals as something hard and solid knocked her to the ground. Miraculously, the bag of new purchased books tucked under her arm stayed in place. Six dark figure surrounded Rin and their round, luminous, blood red eyes glinted menacingly. Something cold and sharp was swiftly placed at the base of her throat, her neck twisted painfully with an unbreakable grip on her hair. Her breathing sped up as her heart pounded in her chest and the cold, sharp object dug into her soft, pale skin, threating to break it. The males around her seemed to be growing more and more excited and a large, bulky, imposing figure smiled.

Rin froze, large eyes widened as she glimpsed something white and curved, gleaming threateningly in the dim light. They looked like…. fangs and Rin felt her mind freeze as her blood grows cold in her veins.

'Vampires.'

Fangs pressed firmer into her skin as the vampire tightened his hold — escape. was. impossible. — as the predators taunted their prey. Rin let her eyelids drop, not closing completely as she waited for the end.

A cold breeze softly hit her cheek something flashed by her, knocking into her attacker as the heavy, solid weight suddenly disappeared. Rin heard a loud screech — like mental breaking apart — that seeming to fill the previous quiet, tranquil atmosphere, echoing loudly her ears. The horrible, disorienting sound disappeared as quickly as it had come, briefly leaving behind a dull, faint ringing in her ears before it faded and disappeared as if neither sound had been there to begin with.

Rin realized was lightly trembling and she'd clasped her hands over her ears at some point, only briefly catching the low, soft rumble of distant thunder as heat of flames gently licked her skin.

A figure gently crouched beside her, mumbling something that sounded like, 'cowards' before placing a gentle, pale hand on her shoulder. The girl's mind is filled with calm — shimmering a cool, soothing icy blue — as weighted, heavy eyelids finally closed and she fell into a deep, peaceful sleep.

Rin blinks owlishly, waiting for her eyes to adjust as faint, weak sunbeams play off the pale orange walls of her room. She sat up in bed, the thick, cozy bright orange comforter with pale swirls pooling at her waist as a small, pale hand meets her forehead. After a while, she goes to the small bathroom across the hall.

How did she get home? How did someone return her without waking her father? She shivered, the thought of someone – a stranger – in her home was…. concerning to say the least. Goosebumps broke out on her arms as she remembered how tucked in she was. A fierce blush coated her cheeks, bright orange tooth brush still in her mouth as she realized something: despite the eerie circumstance, such a simple act made her feel… cared for.

Rin walked out of the house and down the street, the odd circumstance still playing in her mind…. hazy and dream-like. A pale figure watched her from a tree, large eyes the color of freshly spilled blood unblinking and focused. A faint, cool breeze rippled over his shoulder length blonde hair.

The mysterious, invisible string tethering his forever silent, unbeating heart to the girl shifted with her light, graceful movements. She settled in a chair near the back porch, weak, yet warm sun shining in narrow beams around her as she read, a small, contented smile on her pale pink lips. His eyes lingered there as he imagined pressing his cold, hard, colorless lips to hers. If his heart still beat, it'd be fluttering nervously within his chest.

Len's eyes widened as realized this warm, life giving, undeniable pull only meant one thing:

'It's the Mating Bond.' There was no way around it, he'd fallen in love with a human…. his natural prey.

'How cliche.' The blonde rolled his eyes before disappearing from his perch.

The blonde girl tossed and turned, almost smelling a thick, suffocating coppery smell as vivid images flashed through her mind.

A young, blonde boy with concerningly cold skin softly kissed down her neck, licking above her pulse point as Dream Rin laid on a velvet black couch. She gasped softly as something cold pressed against her throat. The boy's eyes flashed a vivid red, like freshly spilled blood as fangs sank into her skin before the image changed.

Dream Rin screamed loudly as flames licked her skin, hot and relentless. The boy's teeth were still embedded in her throat, hard, glaring eyes filled with a mixture of hate, sorrow and …. pity?

"I l-love y-you!" Rin gasped as blood filled her mouth, flashing him an apologetic smile before her body convulsed. Her dark blood splattered against his porcelain skin as she coughed.

Rin gasped, blonde strands stuck forehead with sweat and heart pounding as she awoke.

The girl froze, staring at the boy sitting in the booth of the dimly lit, cozy, small coffee shop. She made her way over to him… feeling the mysterious pull get stronger with every step. She finally reached him, sitting across from him before slipping her hand in his, palms pressed together tightly as electricity danced across their skin.

Rin and Len's eyes widened as a thousand things danced between them, unspoken yet clearly understood.

"You're a —." Her voice was soft and barely above a whisper as she recalled her dream, as vivid and clear as if it happened yesterday.

"Yes… we're mated." Len smiled softly, gently squeezing her hand before gracefully rising to his feet. He was in front of her in an instant, eyes lingering on her soft, pale kissable lips.

Rin nodded slightly as they claimed each other's lips in a gentle, heated passionate kiss, his arm around her waist as he kissed hungrily downward.

The girl shivered hard as he smirked happily against her throat, muttering softly,

"Ready?" Yes, Rin was more than ready to tumble into a long, blissful eternity with him.
