WSINM: Team RWBY

Volume 1, Episode 1, Ruby Rose

Scarlet and Summer sat along the cliffside, the sounds of Ursis and Taiyang dueling slowly getting quieter as they fought further away.

"I want you to tell me about your story."

Scarlet's eyes widened. "My story?" She nervously replied, "All of it?"

"All of it. The good…and the bad."

They looked over the cliffside, the cracked moon shining down on them. Scarlet smiled.

"Well…"

"It started when I was fifteen. I was at a Dust shop, looking over some of the newest weapon models."

Ruby listens to her music as a gang of thugs enter the building.

"I was listening to my music, so I didn't exactly hear the commotion."

"Scarlet…"

"Yes, mom, I know I should pay more attention to my surroundings. But how was I supposed to know-?"

"It's a major city! The capital of a kingdom! At night!"

"-At the time! I was fifteen, come on!"

"And I'd think Tai would've taught you better."

"Well..I found out eventually…"

One of the thugs, scouring the store, spots Ruby. He pulls her shoulder, getting her attention. Ruby sees that the man has a crimson sword, and has a finger to his ear, indicating that her music was too loud.

"Yes?" Ruby asked.

"I said 'hand in the air', now!"

"Are you…robbing me?"

"Yes!"

"Ooooh…"

"Scarlet…"

"Hey, I didn't realize that he couldn't see the weapon on my back, so I thought that he was blind. Well, I mean, he was dumb."

As proven when Ruby kicked the man into the wall. Another thug raised a gun at her, so she charged into him, sending the two out the window.

With the man down, she unfolded Crescent Rose, aiming at the thugs, and their leader-

"Wait, wait, wait!" Summer exclaimed, "This man. Describe him again."

Scarlet raised an eyebrow. "Well, he had orange hair, green eyes-"

"Had a smug attitude."

"Yeah."

"..."

"Mom?"

"Was his name Roman?"

Scarlet did a double take. "How did you know that?"

"Because I've met him."

Scarlet's jaw dropped. "When?!"

"About two months ago, I think. It was…" Summer looked sheepish, "During the time I was helping the Spiders."

Scarlet frowned. She still didn't like how her mom had gone to criminals, but it was only in terms of Lien, not actual killing or shaking people down.

"Someone had kidnapped Miss Malachites daughters, and, in exchange for the last information to find you, I had to help rescue them. Roman was the leader of the mission."

"How did it go? I mean, you found Ketos, so I'm assuming you succeeded."

"I did…" Summer scrunched her face, "Although, now that I'm thinking about it, that may have been the time the Nightmare Grimm first infected me. Though, why it went after me and not the tied up girls…"

"A mystery for another day."

"Right. Needless to say, I may have tried to murder him right after that."

Scarlet snorted, "Let me guess, the attitude?"

"No. Scarlet, I told you that my memories from the nightmares Hatter gave me are gone. But not the emotions from them. Which means, for whatever reason, Roman would come to hurt you one day. So…I may have gone Maiden, and nearly killed him."

Scarlet sighed. "Do you think we should deal with the Spiders?"

"They haven't contacted me since then, in an attempt to blackmail me or anything. So, either Roman never talked, or Miss Malachite figures doing that isn't worth the trouble. Especially since I invested a lot of Lien into her group. And I doubt she's going to sell the information, since she doesn't know what I did. And I don't think Roman does either. Most likely scenario is that they think it's part of my Semblance. No, let Haven deal with them."

"Well, if you're sure."

"I'm sure."

"Alright, then."

"Well, Roman sicked his thugs on me, but they were no match, obviously."

"You were worth every scent, truly you were," Roman taunted the unconcious goons, "Well, Red, I think we can all say it's been an eventful evening."

Roman drops his cigar, crushing it underneath Melodic Cudgel, then aiming it at Ruby.

"And, as much as I'd love to stick around. I'm afraid this," the tip of the can flipped open, "Is where we part ways."

Roman fired, but Ruby fired at the ground, the recoil sending her up and dodging the attack.

"Roman attempted to run away, but I saw him climbing a nearby building. I chased after him, but…it didn't exactly go well."

Ruby and Roman were on top of a building, a Bullhead's spotlight shining down on her. Roman climbed onto the ship, holding a Burn Crystal.

"End of the line, Red." Roman declared, throwing the crystal at Ruby's feet. He fired at the crystal, causing an explosion. Roman gleefully laughs, but it turns sour when he sees that Ruby was unharmed…and who was with her.

"Ah, Glynda. Good to see she's still around."

"You expected her not to be?"

"With how much Ozpin drove us up a wall, and with Glynda being his right hand, yes!"

Glynda attacks the Bullhead, until a woman, clouded in shadows to Glynda and Ruby, stepped into view. The woman's eyes burned dimly with Maiden fire as she begun dueling against Glynda, trying to get her to back off so Roman could fly the ship away. Ruby eventually joined in, but the woman casually blocked the bullets, before summoning a glyph underneath her. Glynda was forced to pull Ruby out of the way as the ground exploded, allowing the Bullhead to escape.

"That…that was Cinder, wasn't it?"

"I believe so."

"And she's already a Maiden, which means one of them got killed."

"Not killed…at least, not yet."

"What do you mean?"

"Remember what Snow did, with Fria? Now imagine if you caught us in the middle of the transfer. Cinder only had half of the power. Amber's."

"Amber?! The girl I saved from Piper?!"

"Wait," Scarlet exclaimed, "You've already met her?"

"Yes. And you say that Cinder attacks Amber?"

"From what Uncle Qrow told me, yes."

"So, did Cinder's caretaker at the Glass Unicorn join up with Salem?"

Scarlet rubbed the back of her head. "I…don't know."

"What do you mean?"

"In the original timeline, the owner of the hotel and her two daughters would be killed in a few years. I think it was Cinder, but, if the owner was working for Salem, maybe she failed her, and so Salem killed them before taking Cinder. Either way, Cinder came to be a disciple of Salem."

"But…" Summer gave a sad smile, "Not anymore. Now, she's your daughter…"

"Yeah. The others are…okay with it, but I can tell Oak definitely isn't okay."

"Why? I mean, sure, Cinder likely caused all sorts of trouble, but…"

"Trust me," Scarlet said solemnly, "When I get to a certain part…you'll understand why Oak can't stand to look at our Cinder."

Ruby looks at Glynda, commenting that she's a Huntress.

Then asking for her autograph.

Summer is balling with laughter.

"I didn't know it was Glynda, ok!"

"Doesn't matter."

Ruby then sits in a police station, getting scolded by Glynda, who obviously wanted to punish the girl. However, she says that someone else has other plans, as Ozpin walks into the room. Leaning forward, Ozpin comments that Ruby had silver eyes.

"Well, history doesn't repeat, but it does rhyme."

"What?"

"Ozpin said the same thing when I first met him."

"Really? How did you meet him?"

"See, I tried taking the exam to go straight for the liscense, just like you and your friends did. However, while I was close, I didn't quite make it. Enough to skip the training academies, but I still had to enroll in a Huntsman Academy. The less people that knew me, the safer I fealt. Ozpin then offered me an enrollment at Beacon."

And history does rhyme. Ozpin, after offering Ruby cookies-

"Huh, if I knew you could be so easily bought, maybe I should've offered to make cookies for you, then we could've met much sooner."

Scarlet tried to grapple her mother playfully.

-He began to ask about Ruby's motivations with becoming a Huntress. After hearing them, he offered her a place at Beacon.

"Two years early?! What did Tai think?!"

"He was proud of me, as was Yang. But I could clearly tell he was worried."

"I would imagine. I'd also imagine he'd have a talk with Ozpin, and try to make sure you didn't get involved with his war until after graduation."

The next day, Yang is hugging Ruby tightly.

"Oooh, my baby sister's coming to Beacon with me, this is the best day ever!"

Ruby complains, trying to convince Yang that she doesn't want to be special, just a normal girl with normal knees.

Summer tries to hold back a snort, to which Scarlet wasn't amused.

Yang comforts her sister, that she is special, but are interrupted by a new report, detailing the robbery, as well as a White Fang protest turning violent, when the news was interrupted by Glynda, giving a speech on what the students in the airship are to expect when arriving at Beacon. Ruby marvels at the view of Vale from the airship, as does Yang as they head towards Beacon, and the next chapter of their lives.

"Again," Summer apologizes, "I'm sorry I wasn't there for you. If I had-"

"Mom, you're becoming a broken record."

"Well, I'll stay broken, damnit!"

"What's this about being broken?" Taiyang exclaimed, making the two look back. Tai and Yang were dirtied, but smiling.

"I was just telling mom about the first day at Beacon?"

"Oh!" Yang sat at the cliffside, "Where'd you get to?"

"We were about to land at Beacon."

"Where Vomit Boy nearly puked on us."

"Who?" Summer questioned.
