Kirishima was almost certain that Shoto didn't know he liked him. Shoto was cute, but gods he was dense. Some comments he had made proved that much to him, when Mount Lady said his smile would give the ladies a heart attack he thought she meant it would kill them.
Kirishima was courting, but Shoto just thought he was being friendly. Everytime Kirishima would bring him soba or a drink his smile was big but it was clear he didn't see it as anything but something friendly.
When the carnival came to town the whole class wanted to attend. Aizawa and Mic were planning on taking Eri and so he agreed to bring the rest of them along. Shoto seemed uncertain about it, he had actually never been to a carnival before. His family didn't do 'fun'.
Everyone went off on their own or in small groups. "You want to come along with us?" Kirishima asked as Bakugo and Denki headed for carnival games.
"Sure I can come with you guys.. As long as Bakugo doesn't mind."
Kirishima turned to look at Bakugo with wide hopeful eyes. "You don't care do you."
Bakugo smirked. "Come on Icy Hot, let's win some carnival prizes."
Shoto grinned and followed after the other three boys, Bakugo was the king of carnival games his bag was full of them by the time they were done. As they were leaving the game section of the carnival Shoto spotted a game they hadn't played. Shoto was looking at a red and white cat that was one of the prizes of the strength game.
Kirishima noticed and grinned. "Do you like that?"
"It is very cute." Shoto replied. "I'm not good and strength challenges."
Kirishima felt that this was his time to shine. "Oh but I sure am." Bakugo and Denki snickered as he was handed the mallet. He was allowed to use his quirk if he wanted to for the feat of strength, and he wanted to get Shoto that stuffed cat.
The three sat and watched as Kirishima brought the mallet up, hardened, and slammed the mallet down. Shoto's eyes widened in surprise as the machine nearly snapped at the force Kirishima put into it.
"We have a big winner, feel free to pick any prize off the shelves."
"The red and white cat please." Kirishima said with a grin as he ran a hand across his forehead. The game worker nodded, grabbed the stuffed toy and turned handing it off to Kirishima. Kiri then turned and got on one knee holding it up to him "For you, Shoto."
Shoto smiled and took it happily. "Thank you Kirishima." He held the toy close to his chest, his smile was enough to melt Kirishima's heart. "Since we are done playing games now, what are we going to do?" Kirishima's smile faltered only for a second as Shoto turned to look at the rest of the carnival. He got up off his knee and stood beside him, he looked back at his friends. Bakugo gave him a thumbs up, and then Kiri turned back to talk to Shoto. Bakugo bit his lip and pulled Denki into his arm, giving him a nuggie causing his laughter to turn into shouts of pain.
"You are not going to ruin this for Kiri." Bakugo hissed. "Or I will end you."
"Shoto can't figure it out, it's been all school year…" Denki sighed. "Kirishima has done everything at this point but write him a love letter."
"Valentine's day is around the corner." Bakugo muttered. "Come on, let's follow them. I have prizes to give to Eri."
Denki grinned, he saw the kind of person Bakugo really was. Even when he wanted to act like a jerk. Shoto and Kiri walked towards the rides. "I've never done this before, what's fun?"
Kirishima smiled big. "We could do the ferris wheel."
Shoto looked up at the spinning wheel, Kirishima was smiling big and it looked like he knew what he was talking about. "That could be fun."
Denki and Bakugo followed behind them, they got in line and were waiting. "Two or four?" The woman asked at the start of the line.
"Two." Bakugo grunted from behind. Kirishima smiled, thankful for his friend.
Shoto cocked his head, he wasn't sure why they had said only two but he shrugged and just waited till he and Kirishima were welcomed into their gondola. Kiri sat beside Shoto, and they waited as more people were placed in their carts. They got up to the top, and Shoto realized he didn't like heights too much. When he was in battle he didn't even think about it, but when it was a casual thing, something he didn't have control over.
He wasn't so sure.
He gripped the seat with his free hand, the other he held his new stuffed cat. "You okay?" Kirishima asked softly.
"Yeah.. I- I didn't realize how high up these went."
"Are you not a fan of heights?" Kirishima asked, cocking his head.
"I haven't ever thought about it that much… Usually when I am focused on other things I don't even think about being so high up… Right now though.. I am realizing how high it is, and that it could fall apart at any moment."
Kirishima smirked and scooted a bit closer, he wrapped an arm around his shoulder and pulled him a bit closer to him. "Don't worry Shoto, I've got you."
"Thank you Kirishima." Shoto whispered as he leaned into Kirishima more. Kirishima's heart was pounding.
"Hey Shoto…"
"Yeah?"
"I was wondering… Are you planning on going with anyone to the school dance?"
Shoto turned his head to focus on him. "Well not currently, I've never been to a school dance before and well no one has asked me… I didn't think anyone wanted me to go with them anyway. I can't dance and…"
"Why wouldn't you think someone would want to go with you?"
"I- No one really likes me that way. I see the way some of you all look at one another, there is love there.. It isn't the same way with me…"
Kirishima's mouth dropped.
"Shoto."
"What?"
"I don't want to sound mean but.. Are you blind?"
Shoto's eyes widened, then narrowed in confusion. "What?"
"Are you blind?"
"No…"
"Could have fooled me." Kirishima whispered. "Are you sure?"
"Yes."
"I- I love you Shoto. I look at you like that."
Shoto looked down at the stuffed cat Kirishima won for him, he was clearly going through every interaction they had ever had. "You love me?" He looked up to Kirishima with wide round eyes.
"Of course I do Shoto, I have been trying to court you for months…. I bring you soba, I order your food when we go out… I invite you to be a part of the groups I am in. When we are training I bring you water bottles and when we are out at shops I buy the little keychains or gotcha pons you point out."
Kiri didn't think Shoto's eyes could get any wider, but they sure seemed to be getting rounder. Shoto then looked to the hand resting on his shoulder, then back to the stuffed cat. Before Shoto could reply the ferris wheel began to move again, he squeaked and Kiri's arm tightened around him. "I love you Shoto Todoroki, and I want you to be my boyfriend."
Shoto looked up at him and then he smiled. "You really do?"
"Yes, of course I do." Kirishima smiled as he leaned forward. He tipped his chin up and brought their lips together. Shoto's eyes were wide in shock before he closed them and returned the kiss. Kirishima pulled away for a moment and smiled. "Will you go to the dance with me?"
"Y-yes."
"Will you be my boyfriend?"
"Kiri… I- I'm sorry it took me so long… I- Yeah.. Yes."
Kirishima brought his arms up in triumph, Shoto clung to him as they went around the top again. Kirishima laughed and wrapped his arms around Shoto.
"I've got you Shoto, don't worry."
"I think I like the carnival."
"I do too." Kirishima whispered as he kissed his cheek.
"Oh my gods you got down on one knee and gave me my cat…"
"Yeah, I did."
Shoto turned to look at him. "I- I cannot believe you did that and that I didn't notice."
"It isn't the first time."
Shoto's mouth opened in an O. "It isn't?"
"No, I do it every time I bring you a water bottle at school."
Shoto thought about it for a moment and face palmed. "I'm so blind…" Kirishima laughed a bit and pulled him into a hug, kissing his forehead.
"It's okay…. You want some carnival food after this?"
"Yes please…"
Kirishima grinned, he held Shoto until the ride stopped. They stepped off and waited for Denki and Bakugo, Kirishima held his hand out and Shoto took it with a soft grin. His face was a deep red.
Bakugo and Denki spotted their fingers intertwined. "I see he finally figured it out." Bakugo grinned. "Took you long enough Icy Hot."
"Does everyone know?" Shoto asked, looking up at him with big round eyes.
"Pretty much." Kirishima chuckled. "Come on, let's go meet everyone for lunch."
Shoto followed Kirishima, holding his hand tightly. He couldn't believe it took him this long to figure it out.
The group found most of their class, a few people spotted the hand holding and the wide smile on Kirishima's face. "Oh, did you finally ask him out?"
"I did." Kirishima grinned as he wrapped his arms around Shoto's waist, his chin resting on Shoto's head. "He said yes, and we are going to the dance together."
"That's it Kirishima!" Sero grinned.
Shoto blushed, he didn't realize how many of their friends were rooting for them to get together. Shoto squeezed the stuffed cat close to his chest as Kirishima kissed his cheek again. "You both look so happy." Ochaco grinned. "We were all waiting for it to happen, glad it finally did." Shoto looked up at Kirishima, then smiled and looked at everyone else. They really were happy to see them together, he couldn't believe he didn't even know Kirishima liked him.
"Wanna share a candy apple?" Kirishima asked as he grabbed his hand and walked him towards the stall.
"Yes please."
Kirishima smiled, Shoto was finally seeing him the way he hoped he had. He finally got to call Shoto his boyfriend and it made him so happy. He squeezed Shoto's hand as he ordered the candy apple.
Kirishima had only wished he had told him sooner, but he couldn't be happier with how it turned out anyway.
