Chapter 8

Hydroman laughed again as he launched another attack, determined to break through and cause more carnage.

"Come out, come out, Spider-Man, surely you don't want me to hurt these kids!" He called out with a laugh.

He didn't know that Jamie was already in the science lab and had grabbed the ice pellets. He hadn't been idle. Knowing the threat Hydroman posed, he had worked on the pellets, upgrading them, making sure he was ready for when Hydroman returned. Finally ready and with the pellets equipped to his web shooters he quickly got changed into his suit.

'Here we go, hopefully this time Hydroman is taken down and arrested, they've actually got a specially made cell for him all prepped at the Raft.' Spider-Man reflected. 'That's if it works, this place if brand new, only opened last week in response to the supervillains who started cropping up.'

Still, he had hopes and, fully suited up he opened the window and swung out and around, he had to make it appear that he came from the outside after all. Angling himself carefully he swung around and entered through the window Hydroman had broken in through. Swinging in he saw Hydroman and as he raised his hand to attack again, Spidey launched a small piece of web to hit the wall right next to Hydroman's head, getting his attention as he hoped.

The petty cruel villain turned and sneered.

"Spider-Man, there you are...now, I hope you're not going to make this difficult." He remarked with a mocking tone.

Spidey stayed calm and focused however. "Morris, what are you doing here?"

He knew why but couldn't let on.

Hydroman laughed. "Oh, how cute, calling by my dead name. But as for why I'm here, I'm here for your head and the ten million that comes with it!"

With that he launched at attack right at Spider-Man who quickly dodged, already warned by his Spider-Sense. The torrent of water missed and hit the wall.

"I said don't make it difficult!" Hydroman yelled.

"Sorry Morris, can't do that." Spidey quipped. "Looks like you're not gonna listen to reason, guess I'll have to deal with you."

With that, he decided to make his feint and acted as if he was trying to physically attack Hydroman and simply went through him, as he used his water form to make it impossible to even touch him.

"Ha, is that the best you can do!" He remarked. "How could you be so stupid, did you forget what happened last time!?"

With that he attacked again, only for Spidey to make his move and fire the pellet at the torrent and it froze instantly, freezing right up to Hydroman's shoulder.

Hydroman's eyes were wide, his smugness all gone as he instantly began to panic.

"What, no, you-!" He cried.

Spider-Man let out a good-natured laugh. "Sorry Morris, looks like you're the one who forgot our last battle, surely you haven't forgotten my ice pellets?"

Hydroman grimaced. "You little, when I get outta this, you-!"

"Yeah, not gonna let that happen, you've done enough damage." Spider-Man replied sharply.

With that he wasted no time and fired more shots, the pellets hitting and doing their job, Hydroman cried out and began making loud threats but it was no use and in no time he was frozen solid.

"Whew, that was close, lucky he's not the smartest…" Spider-Man muttered to himself. "Okay everyone, it's clear, he's down, just need to get the police and any other emergency services here!"

He called the last part out and turned around. Slowly, hesitantly, the teachers and students emerged. Some stared shocked at the frozen Hydroman, others rushed to those who had been hurt, checking on them, checking how bad they were. But luckily at that moment they also heard the sound of sirens and Spider-Man quickly got ready to help out then find a way to slip out of sight so he could change and make sure everybody saw him amongst the crowd.

With school over for the day, Spider-Man left, having slipped away, changed back into his costume and swung away, determined to start his patrol and see if he could find anything. He had stuck around, helping the police and emergency services clean up around the school, the police had taken the frozen Hydroman off to the Raft. Those who were injured were checked over and treated by paramedics, luckily only two people actually needed to go to the hospital yet their injuries were not life-threatening.

'I was able to make a showing and act normally, now school is closing early while they finish tidying up, perhaps it'll be closed the rest of the week. But in the meantime, hmm...I still don't know what to make about it, Sam is still setting off my Spider-Sense, but why...urg, I hope I can figure this out soon.'

He was worried, especially since he was starting to get a little paranoid about the Assassins. Mainly their lack of action, apart from Tombstone, none of them had made a move against him yet, at least not openly. He paused on a rooftop and looked around.

'Could my Spider-Sense going off around Sam have anything to do with the Assassins. I'd hate to ask about it or do something about it without knowing for sure...I need to find a way to keep an eye on him, without it being suspicious.' Spider-Man wondered to himself. 'But that's not all...Could one of the other Assassins be watching me right now without me even realizing?'

Looking around some more, Spider-Man shook his head and began swinging again, only to hear a scream, shouts and then a fight, he immediately changed course, heading for the source of the conflict.

He was a little surprised at what he saw, it was Laurel, being ambushed by thugs, but she was actually fighting back, two of them were knocked out but she was having trouble.

'Time to even the odds.' He noted.

With that he swung down and launched two web blasts, right at the faces of two of the men who staggered back, Laurel stopped, gasping as she stumbled back, leaning against the wall as the remaining two men turned and cried out.

"The Spider, what the…?" One said.

The other groaned. "As if this bitch wasn't bad enough, fighting back!"

Spidey just laughed and launched himself down, taking one out right away. Laurel watched in amazement as he then took out the two he'd already hit with webbing, sticking them to the walls and then, as the last one tried to attack him from behind, he spun around and knocked him out too.

"Wow, that was…" Laurel gasped before grinning. "Thanks for the save."

"Save, all I did was give as assist. You took two out yourself, look at those guys." Spidey laughed as he pointed them out. "I don't know where you learned that, but...keep practising, you'll get better."

"Um yeah, thanks...I'm fine, by the way, thank you." Laurel replied, flushing at the compliment.

Spider-Man nodded. "No worried, well, I better get going, I've got things I need to check up on. But best head home and be careful. These guys got the better of you since you were outnumbered."

Laurel agreed and watched as he swung away, grateful and relieved as Spidey headed off, wondering what was going to happen next.
