Chapter 22

Waking up the first thing Jamie noticed was Sam was still with him, the second was that he was tied up, as was Sam. Their legs had been respectively bound together at the ankles and thighs while their arms were forced behind their backs, in a box shape, bound at the wrists and elbows, the right wrist bound to the left elbow and vice-versa. They were also bound back to back and held together by bonds around their waists and chests.

"Mmmm." Jamie tried to say to Sam, thus discovering the third thing, they had been gagged.

Thick cloths had been pulled between their teeth and knotted off behind their heads. Sam had now come around and noticed their situation.

"Mmm mmm mmmmm!" He cried out, tugging at his bonds.

He looked over his shoulder, just enough to see Jamie who was doing the same.

Jamie shook his head. "Mm mmmm."

But both of them tensed, heads turning to the opening door as Kraven stepped in.

They realised now they were being held in some sort of storeroom in what was likely his hideout. They could hear noise, talking, the men who worked for him no doubt. But then Kraven shut the door and the noise abruptly stopped.

"Good, you're awake." Kraven remarked. "He didn't come to save all those people, but I recall Spider-Man's reaction when my brother kidnapped you."

As he said this he took hold of Sam's chin, forcing him to look the hunter in the eye.

"He didn't come for them, but I know he'll come for you." Kraven growled. "Too bad your friend got caught in the middle."

"MMM MMMMMMM!" Jamie cried, Sam also yelling out.

It was clear now, Sam was bait for Spider-Man, with Kraven completely unaware he already has his prey in his grasp. But Jamie also saw something, there, attached to Kraven's jacket, was the USB stick, the one with all the data on Kingpin.

"Get comfortable, we will be waiting a while no doubt." Kraven drawled.

With that he stood and left the room again, Jamie knew there was no choice, they had to break free.

He began trying to do so, using his strength as Spider-Man although he paused briefly as he noticed Sam was working hard to get free too, using his flexibility from his dancing to try and wriggle free. That was when Jamie realised the problem.

'Urg, not good...' His mind raced. 'I've gotta get Sam to hide, but then how do I justify disappearing to change into my suit...and then afterwards, what do I do then.'

It was a tricky conundrum, but one he was momentarily distracted from by the feeling of the ropes around their waists coming loose. Jamie looked down and saw Sam, working his hips to loosen off the ropes. A new sense of hope filling him, he used his strength to break the bonds around their chests.

"MM MMMM!" Sam mumbled through his gag as he turned as best he could.

Jamie shook his head however and broke the bonds on his arms before removing his gag and then getting Sam's gag off.

Sam grimaced and worked his mouth as Jamie began untying his arms.

"Jamie, what are we gonna do, what if Spider-Man can't-" Sam began to ask worriedly.

Jamie bit his lip. "Just hold on, let's get free first. Nice work getting that first rope off."

"All in the hips." Sam said with a nod and then, surprising Jamie, instead of untying his own legs now his hands were free, Sam reached over and began untying Jamie's. With
a shrug Jamie began to return the favour and finally they were free, which was when Jamie's concerns became a moot point.

"Hey hold on, what the-?" Sam gasped, grabbing Jamie's arm.

Jamie looked shocked, then froze as he saw his sleeve had pulled up, exposing a friendship bracelet with Sam's name on it, and several Spidey themed beads. Sam pushed the sleeve up further to expose the sleeve of Jamie's spider suit before looking at Jamie in shock, as well as amazement and, something else. He actually seemed to be turning red in his cheeks.

"You're...Jamie, you're Spider-Man?"

His secret was out.

Jamie grimaced but then nodded.

"Yeah, I...I am..." He replied. "I'm sorry. I owe you an explanation but right now I need to go and face Kraven."

"You're right, you do owe me an explanation, but what's this about fighting Kraven?" Sam interjected.

Jamie sighed. "Have to make him believe that I'm here to save you...and I also need that USB he's got attached to his jacket, it has important data on it...I promise, once I get you out of here, we'll go somewhere safe and I'll explain everything."

Sam nodded slowly. "Okay, okay, I trust you. Go get him."

Jamie nodded and quickly changed into his spider suit, Sam taking his discarded clothes to keep them safe. After establishing an escape route through an open skylight, Jamie pulled his mask on and exited the storeroom. Spider-Man then swung around to make it seem he had entered elsewhere before dropping down in front of Kraven, who stood in an arena formed by his men circling them in the middle of the hideout.

With a grim smile, Kraven simply pulled out his weapons, a spear and a net and began to slowly stalk towards Spider-Man. Spidey stood ready, waiting for Kraven to make the first move, ready to follow the warning of his spider-sense. Sure enough it flared and he dodged, avoiding the net which Kraven attempted to use to snare him, but then Kraven suddenly twisted and attempted to thrust the spear, Spidey narrowly twisted around to dodge it, only just doing so.

"Oh, so that's how it's gonna be, huh?" Spidey remarked, trying to act like his usual self.

But his anger was still burning as he recalled what led to this while Kraven merely smirked.

"Spider-Man, you have arrived late to the party, I was hoping you'd show up sooner."

"I wish I did." Spidey snarled. "You'll pay for everyone you hurt, everyone you killed, you will pay Kraven."

"Try me."

With that he suddenly thrust twice with the spear, before attempting to sweep it to knock Spidey's legs out from under him but Spidey jumped over it. But then Kraven threw the net and caught him, causing him to land with a thud.

"Ha, too easy." Kraven said.

He raised the spear but Spidey quickly reacted, wrapping Kraven in several webs before managing to force his way free from the net just as Kraven broke out of the webs and attempted to strike with the spear again, but Spidey dodged and began to counter, striking Kraven a few times, but Kraven seemed impervious to pain. It was clear after a while, from the chanting of the hunters, that Kraven was only going to fight harder.

Spidey sighed. "Alright, big guns."

Kraven laughed and retrieved his net, readying both it and his spear again.

Spidey narrowed his eyes and channelled his Venom Power, the bio-electricity flowing through him and drawing attention as the Hunters stopped chanting while Kraven raised an eyebrow but began to advance again. This time he led with the spear aiming for Spider-Man's foot, this time Spidey didn't jump up, but spun to the side, dodging the spear and throwing Kraven off, as he intended to make Spidey jump and throw his net. Spidey then launched his attack with two quick punches, empowered with his Venom Power and sending Kraven sprawling. He got to his feet, a little slower and smirked. He then, surprisingly threw both weapons aside and drew his machete again. He lunged and then began to slash as Spidey weaved throw the blows, occasionally throwing a few of his own to stumble Kraven. Knowing he couldn't take many more chances he acted and feinted left. But then he delivered a harsh Venom Powered right hook, spun around Kraven and launched a backwards upwards kick before using his webs to flip up and on top of Kraven and, channelling more Venom Power, thrust Kraven into the ground and flipped back. Kraven got up more slowly this time, and oddly enough, he looked, pleased.

"Yes…" He said breathlessly. "Yes...could you be the one to finally finish me."

Spidey couldn't help but feel unnerved by that, so he quickly acted and used his webs to quickly snag and pull the USB stick towards himself, finally reclaiming it.

Kraven growled as Spidey caught the USB stick and quickly pocketed it.

"Okay Kraven, I admit this can't go any further right now, but I will make you pay for you did, some day soon." Spidey remarked.

With that he turned invisible and web-zipped away, back up to the storeroom where he turned visible again, regrouped with and, holding onto him carefully, pulled them both out through the skylight and up onto a nearby roof where they stopped to catch their breath.

"Did you, did you get it?" Sam asked.

Spider-Man nodded. "Yeah, I've got it...now...I owe you an explanation, but not here. Let's go to my place, it'll be easier to talk there."

Sam nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I agree."

With that they stood, Sam held on tight while Spider-Man held him close and began swinging for home. Sam letting out a gasp and then a whoop as he experienced web-swinging for the first time.
