Chapter 24
Waking up in the morning, Jamie smiled, he had just had the best sleep since learning about the assassins and it was all thanks to the boy in bed with him.
"Morning Jamie." Sam said warmly.
He had clearly not long woken up himself and certainly was in no hurry to move.
"Morning Sam." Jamie said. "So um, I guess we should-"
"Do we have to?" Sam queried. "This is so comfortable."
Jamie laughed a little. "I won't argue there, but yeah...my aunt should be home by now, we need to talk to her...we also need to find out just how bad things got yesterday."
"I guess you're right, mom said she'd be around too." Sam agreed.
So together they got up and got dressed, Jamie quickly making sure to put on his spare suit and together they headed downstairs to the kitchen. Dakota was already there and had coffee ready, both boys gratefully accepted and drank.
"So, how did you two sleep?" She asked.
"It was good." Sam said. "Very comfortable."
Dakota quirked an eyebrow. "I'll bet."
"Aunt Dakota." Jamie grumbled but then sighed. "You saw us, huh?"
She nodded. "So, when did that happen?"
"Just last night actually, or at least, the confession did." Jamie admitted.
Dakota smiled and hugged them both, clearly showing her support and clearly glad they were both okay, after everything that happened, so was Carolyn when she arrived, grateful to be reunited with her son, as well as bringing clean clothes for him.

The peaceful and hopeful atmosphere the boys had built for themselves following the fear and danger they faced, with Sam learning Jamie's secret and swearing to keep it, both happy with their newfound love, all but faded once they were back at the site of the attack. Many people were there, checking over the dead that had not yet been moved, searching for missing loved ones, the police and such were all doing their best to maintain order. There was no sign of Norman however, but the attack had left him without an opponent, the town without a mayor, but also the loss of so many. It was a solemn time for the two boys as they came across Laurel.
"Laurel, are you-?" Jamie began, uncertain.
Sam bit his lip as she looked over at them, an obvious devastation in her eyes. The loss of her father had hit hard and she wasn't the only one.
"Sir, you need to step back please, her family-"
"NO, she can't-" Professor Warren of all people was crying out.
They watched in shock at him, clearly overwrought, over Natalie Anderson's corpse.
"Sir-" The officer tried again.
"You can't stop me from-!" Professor Warren cried.
The officer glared. "Sir, you are not part of her family, you can not come near her, you need to leave sir."
Professor Warren looked furious, then distraught and then, with his whole body shaking briefly, he turned and stalked away.
Jamie and Sam shared a look.
"What the hell was that?" Sam blurted out.
Jamie grimaced. "I don't know, but I don't like it…"
But they were pulled back to the moment when they heard Laurel sniffling.
"Laurel, I'm so sorry, I just wish…" Jamie said gently.
Sam nodded, sympathetic and trying to help Jamie to support and reassure Laurel.
"Sorry...what good are sorries going to do?" Laurel said, her voice sounding very different. "That man, who the hell was he, the monster who killed my dad."
They were startled by the change in her. She looked up, eyes blazing and a look of shocking fury on her face.
"L-Laurel?" Sam gasped.
"I heard him mentioned, Kraven, right, that's his name...that monster should die for what he did!" She burst out.
"Laurel." Jamie tried to calm her.
But she just snarled and stalked out, storming away somewhere as they just watched her go helplessly. Biting his lip and knowing that Jamie would undoubtedly be feeling guilty, Sam gently wrapped an arm around his new boyfriend.
"Hey...there was nothing more you could have done." He said reassuringly. "You were stuck, had no means of actually helping at that time...You're not to blame, only Kraven is."
Jamie swallowed but nodded. "Yeah, I...Yeah, you're right. I just, I can't believe all this...and now, now Laurel sounds like she's going to-"
"We'll figure things out, we'll help her, maybe we can talk to Jennifer, she can help too?" Sam suggested.
Jamie bit his lip. "I, that might work, but then how do we-"
They were startled by Jamie's phone going off. He pulled it out and bit his lip, it was a feature he added as Spider-Man, to connect to the police signals and he stared in shock at the reveal.
"Holy...Vulture's attacking Braithewaite Bridge, he's...he's got bombs." Jamie gasped in shock.
Sam bit his lip, realizing what this meant, Jamie did too and shared a worried look with Sam who swallowed and nodded, confirming that it was alright. Jamie was ready and quickly hurried to get ready and change once out of sight and soon Spider-Man was swinging for the Braithewaite Bridge, knowing that this had to be Vulture's play to get him for the bounty.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
