Chapter 3*
Five hours later the Farragut docks in with Deep Space Nine. During that time they got to know the children better and had prepared them for the initial shock of seeing the space station. The children had been dressed in the standard Federation children's outfits, which were comfortable and made of a material that could adapt to their body temperature. They had been briefed on basic etiquette and protocols to be followed in public.
The moment they stepped out of the turbolift onto the Promenade, the children's eyes went wide with astonishment. The sheer size and bustle of the station was overwhelming. The air was filled with the cacophony of various alien languages, the smell of exotic foods, and the sight of beings from across the galaxy going about their business.
"Welcome to Deep Space Nine, young ones," Riker said, his voice barely audible over the din. "This is where we'll be staying for a while."
Odo, the station's security chief, approached the group, his liquid-like form moving with purposeful grace. His features, though alien, held a gentle curiosity. "I understand we have new guests," he said, his gaze sweeping over the children.
The young ninjas looked up at him, their expressions a blend of awe and wariness. They had never seen anything like Odo before—his body shifting and flowing like water. "These are the children we found in Veridian III," Diana introduced. "They're here to learn about the Federation."
Odo nodded. "Welcome to Deep Space Nine. I'm sure you'll find it quite... different from your home." His eyes searched their faces, reading their emotions with a practiced ease. "But fear not, I'll make sure you're safe here."
Sakura's voice was small, yet filled with determination. "Is this where we'll stay until we find our friend Yota and Akamaru?"
Diana knelt beside her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "For now, yes," she said. "But we're working on finding a way to get you all back home, or at least to a place where you can be together again. Until then, think of this as a new adventure, a chance to learn and grow."
Keiko O'Brien, the botanist wife of Chief O'Brien, passed by the group, her eyes drawn to the unfamiliar faces. She had heard the commotion about the strange children who had arrived on the station. Overhearing Diana's words, she couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness for them. She knew all too well the pain of being far from home.
Before her marriage to Miles O'Brien, Keiko had been Keiko Ishikawa, a young woman who grew up speaking Japanese with her family. Her heart went out to these lost children, and she approached them with a warm smile. "Konnichiwa," she greeted in their native tongue, her voice melodic and soothing.
The children looked up at her, their eyes sparkling with hope. Here was someone who understood them, who spoke their language. "You know Japanese?" Ino asked, her voice tentative.
"Hai," Keiko nodded, her smile widening. "My family is from Japan, on Earth. I was raised speaking it at home. It's a beautiful language, isn't it?"
The children nodded in unison, their eyes glued to her. "Could you... could you teach us more?" Choji asked shyly.
Keiko's heart melted at the sight of their eager faces. "Of course," she said, her smile warm and welcoming. "Why don't you come with me to the school on the station? I'm sure the teachers would love to help you learn more about the Federation, and I can help you with Japanese."
"Is your family or clan a Shinobi one?" Kiba asked Keiko, his curiosity piqued by her knowledge of their language.
Keiko's smile grew. "My family is not shinobi, but we do have our own stories of bravery and tradition, as we come from a samurai linage." she said, her eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "But let's not get ahead of ourselves. First, let's get you settled into the station's school. I'm sure you'll find it quite fascinating."
With that, she turned to Riker, Diana and the others. "If it's alright with you, I'd like to take them to meet the teachers and get them enrolled," she said, her gaze earnest. "They'll be in good hands."
Riker nodded, a smile playing on his lips. "Thank you, Keiko. That would be excellent. We're counting on you to help them feel welcome here."
Keiko's gaze softened as she looked at the children. "Come along, I'll show you to the school," she said, her arm gesturing towards the school's entrance.
The young ninjas followed her, their eyes darting around the promenade, taking in the sights and sounds of the space station. As they walked, a deep, rumbling voice called out, drawing their attention. Captain Benjamin Sisko, the station's commanding officer, and Major Kira Nerys, his Bajoran first officer, approached the group.
Sisko's eyes were filled with a mix of curiosity and sadness as he offered his hand to Captain Picard. "I'm sorry for the loss of your ship," he said, his deep voice carrying the weight of experience. "Welcome to Deep Space Nine. We're at your service."
Major Kira stepped forward, her stern Bajoran features softening as she looked at the children. "We've heard about your situation," she said, her voice gentle. "We'll do everything we can to help you find your friend and your way home."
Naruto looked up at her, his eyes filled with a mix of hope and skepticism. "Thank you," he said, his voice tight. "But we're sure Yota and Akamaru are back on our home planet."
Keiko nodded understandingly. "And we'll do everything we can to help you find them," she promised. "But for now, let's focus on your education and making friends here. There's so much to learn about the galaxy."
As the group made their way to the school, the children chattered excitedly among themselves, their nerves gradually giving way to excitement. The walls of Deep Space Nine were lined with screens displaying various languages, and they caught glimpses of the wormhole outside the windows, its swirling maelstrom of colors and light a stark contrast to the serene forests and rivers of their own world.
That night, as the children lay in their new beds, their dreams were filled with whispers of ancient teachings. The spirit of Kurama, the nine-tailed fox, had sensed their longing for home and the wisdom of their lost heritage. It decided to take a more active role in shaping their destiny by imparting to Naruto the knowledge of Ninshu—the true path of the shinobi, taught by Hagoromo Otsutsuki, the Sage of Six Paths.
The path of Nishu work with unit and comprehension of one another, not war or violence, it's about balance, peace, and unity.
"What the hell are you doing furball?" A voice outside of Kurama's cage in the seal was heard, and it surprised Kurama as this voice should be dead. It was the same voice that had tormented him for so long.
"How are you alive Kushina? I killed you six years ago." Kurama hissed, his eyes glowing a fierce red.
"And you did killed the boss furball, I'm just a Kagebunshin left behind to make sure you do not mess with my son's mind." Kushina said, her eyes filled with a fiery determination. "Naruto is not going to become like you, he will bring peace to our world."
"Who said that I'm teaching him hate or violence? It's the other way around actually. I'm teaching him Ninshu." Kurama replied, his voice calm despite the situation.
Kushina's eyes widened in shock. "Ninshu? But that's the ancient way of the shinobi, long forgotten and replaced by the violent ways of the modern ninja world!" she exclaimed.
"Here take a look at your son's memories and you'll know why I am doing this. And you can help too by giving him your knowledge." Kurama projected a series of images into Kushina's mind, the early hell of childhood, and how everything changed recently, by showing her the peaceful life of the children and their friendship with the Enterprise crew.
Kushina's eyes grew misty as she saw the images of her son playing, laughing, and even fighting alongside these strangers from the stars. Her heart swelled with pride and hope. "Alright, I will help," she said finally, her voice firm. "But remember, I'll be watching you. Minato! Wake the hell up! Our son needs us!"
In the quiet of the night, the spirit of Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, stirred. His spirit form emerged from the seal, looking at Kurama with a mix of surprise and suspicion. "What's going on?"
"Here dear, take a look at these memories." Kushina said as she reached out and handed Minato a small crystal shard. It contained the memories of their son's recent adventures with the Starfleet officers and their newfound knowledge of the galaxy.
"Without a experienced Shinobi there's no way that Naruto or his friends can properly mold chakra. As to do that you either are taught Ninshu or Ninjutsu." Minato said aloud with worry as he absorbed the memories of his son's new life.
"And that's where the three of us can be of assistance, I decided to help by giving him dreams with the teaching of Ninshu, you two can help by giving him all of your knowledge of Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, Taijutsu, Kenjutsu, Fuinjutsu and Iryo Jutsu." Kurama said, his eyes gleaming with determination.
Minato and Kushina exchanged a knowing look. "We'll do whatever it takes to protect our son," Minato said, his spirit form standing tall.
"I will feed your kagebunshin forms a bit of my chakra to keep you alive and anchored to this plane. It's not much, but I think that I can keep you around for ten years." Kurama said, his eyes glowing with a gentle warmth.
"We'll need to change the seal slightly to convert your chakra to our energy signatures, but it's possible to slow down our depleting energy, it won't last forever but it will give us some borrowed time." Minato said, his eyes focused on the seal that contained them.
"And we can finally met and be with our son, for at least ten years... Kyubi... Do you have a name? I can't thank you enough for this chance." Kushina said, her voice filled with emotion.
"You can call me by my true name, Kurama. And don't thank me yet, we have much work to do to ensure their safety and their growth." Kurama said, his tone serious but his eyes filled with a gentle light.
