Chapter 17: Dinner with the Wolves

Danny Fenton was flushing another ghost back to the Ghost Zone when his mother showed up. "The Box Ghost again, son?" Maddie asked.

"No, Mother." Danny replied. "It was Skulker this time."

"Frankly, Danny, he's already becoming as annoying as the Box Ghost." Maddie commented.

"But still more dangerous." Danny said.

"Hey!" The Box Ghost protested, phasing his face through the Ghost Portal. "I have feelings."

"Me too." Skulker could be heard on the other side of the portal.

"At least I don't need armor to be a threat." The Box Ghost said.

"That's debatable." Danny said and the two ghosts left.

"Danny, your friends are waiting for you in the living room." His Mom informed him.

"Okay, Mom." He said and went up the stairs.

Tucker and Sam were happy to see their friend. "Danny, how about we watch the new Nightmerica movie?" Sam asked.

"How about we play a video game?" Tucker suggested.

"How about…" Danny was interrupted by his cell phone ringing. "Clawdeen?"

"Danny, my parents believe it's time for them to meet your family." Clawdeen said. "How about the four of you have dinner with us this Saturday?"

"I'll talk to them and call you later, Clawdeen." Danny replied. "Goodbye." After that, he went to talk to his parents. "Mom, Dad, what do you say?"

"I don't know, son." Jack replied apprehensively. "Your mother and I are fine with you being half monster and dating a full monster but meeting her family is something we're not ready for yet."

"Dad, we already met her brother and sister." Danny pointed out.

"It's still too early to meet her parents, Danny." Jack said.

Maddie's cell phone rang, interrupting the conversation. "Alicia?"

"Misery loves company." Jack muttered.

"What?" Maddie asked. "Do you want to spend the weekend with us?"

"We'd love to but we have dinner with Danny's girlfriend's family this Saturday." Jack quickly said with a very cheerful tone for someone who claimed to consider this bad news.

"Don't lie, Jack." Alicia ordered. "You expect me to believe this coincidence?"

"Believe it or not, Aunt Alicia, we were invited to dinner at my girlfriend's house." Danny said indignantly.

"Sorry, Danny." Alicia said. "In that case, I will cancel the trip."

"Bye, Alicia." Jack said, still happy. "It's a shame we can't see each other again." He added and then whispered to Danny. "It's a relief."

After the Fentons accepted the Wolves' invitation, Danny went to tell Tucker and Sam the news. "So, you and your family are going to dinner with a family of werewolves?" Tucker asked. "I wish I could say that was the strangest thing I've ever heard."

"Your family has never had dinner with mine." Sam complained.

"Do you think your parents would be better hosts than Clawdeen's?" Danny asked.

"Touché." Sam muttered.

On the agreed day, Jack was driving with his family to Clawdeen's house. "Why did I agree to this trip to meet a family of werewolves?" Jack asked grumbling.

"To get away from Aunt Alicia, Dad." Jazz said.

"That's right!" Jack exclaimed happily before noticing his wife staring at him. "I mean, no, Jazzypants. We love your Aunt." He corrected himself and then whispered to Danny "We hate her."

"We're going to meet Clawdeen's family and it was really nice of them to invite us." Maddie said.

"And they couldn't have chosen a better time." Jack said and then he remembered Maddie. "Except, of course, for the fact that Aunt Alicia was planning to visit us."

"Very well, Jack." Maddie responded with a smile.

Upon arriving at the Wolf residence, the Fentons were surprised by the number of werewolves. "Did Clawdeen's parents invite extended family?" Jack asked.

"Danny, it's good to see you and your family again." Clawdeen commented.

"Hi, cousin." Dani said, surprising the Fentons with her presence. "Mr. Hack said it's okay for me to come here."

"Good to see you again, Dani." Danny said.

Clawdeen's parents approached the Fentons. "Fentons, it's great to finally meet you." Mr. Wolf said. "Especially you, Danny."

"Likewise, Mr. and Mrs. Wolf." Danny replied, apprehensive about meeting his girlfriend's parents. The fact that they were monsters had nothing to do with the fear he was feeling.

"Danny, you've already met Clawd and Howleen." Clawdeen said. "I would love to introduce you to my other brothers and sisters."

"And to your cousins, I presume." Danny replied.

"No, none of them are here." She said. "Just my parents and my siblings."

A blonde-haired werewolf girl wearing a pink jacket approached the Fentons. "Nice to meet you." She said. "I'm Clawdia Wolf, the youngest of Clawdeen's siblings to have ever moved out of our parents' home."

'With or without a chance with the werewolf girls, Tucker would love being here.' Danny thought as he saw all that meat after he and his family were led to their seats.

"So, Clawdia, any new film work?" Clawd asked.

"Just the usual." Clawdia answered neutrally.

"Do you work in the film industry?" Jack asked in surprise.

"I'm currently studying dramatic writing in Londoom, Fangland, and I hope to one day become a great screamwriter in Hauntlywood." Clawdia replied.

Danny barely had time to recover from the shock of learning the monster names of places like London, England, and Hollywood when Jack made an even bigger fool of himself. "Clawdia, if you want to make a movie about Danny, I'm his manager."

"I'm sorry, Clawdeen." Danny told his girlfriend.

"It's okay, Danny." Clawdeen reassured her boyfriend. "I've seen worse."

"Seriously?" Danny asked.

"And if you need someone to play John Fenton-Nightingale in a documentary or a historical film, I've been told I look like him." Jack said to Clawdia.

"Never mind." Danny sadly commented.

'It would be so much easier to just think these monsters were evil.' Maddie thought, hating having to care about their opinions.

"Mister Fenton, don't call us." Clawdia said with a professional tone. "We'll call you."

Drinks were served and Danny noticed that there was no alcohol even for adults. 'The Wolves are probably afraid my Dad will say even more stupid things when drunk.' He thought. 'Who can blame them? If they had seen him driving, they would probably think he was already drunk.'

Eventually, it was time for dessert. "I hope you like fudge." Mrs. Wolf commented.

"I love it!" Jack happily exclaimed.

"I wonder who could have told our hosts that it would be a good idea to serve fudge." Jazz commented as she looked at Dani, who was eating as much fudge as Jack.

"Whoever it was, I appreciate it." Jack said.

"You're welcome." Dani replied.

"Don't talk with your mouth full." Maddie scolded them.

"Sorry." Jack and Dani said together, still eating fudge.

Maddie facepalmed in frustration.

The Wolves also served pies, some of which had names that made the Fentons afraid to try them. Fortunately, the Wolves included normal (by human standards) pies. "Thank you, Clawdeen." Danny said.

"You're welcome, Danny." Clawdeen replied.

After dessert, Danny, his sister, and his parents headed back to Amity Park. "Oh no!" Jack exclaimed in horror.

"What happened, Dad?" Danny asked, worried about whatever caused his father's reaction.

"Clawdia and I forgot to exchange contact numbers!" Jack said. "How will she call me?"

"She can ask Clawdeen to give me the message, Dad." Danny replied, not having the courage to tell Jack that he didn't believe Clawdia would call.

"What a relief." Jack commented.

The next day, Danny told his friends about dinner with the Wolves. "Does this Clawdia girl have a boyfriend?" Tucker asked.

"We haven't talked about it but, Tucker, I already told you she's old enough to live on her own." Danny replied.

"A monster who works in movies?" Sam asked in disgust. "At least they're horror movies?"

"I didn't get to talk about those details, Sam." Danny replied.

"Do they make movies with humans attacking innocent monsters?" Tucker asked and chuckled.

"I don't think so, Tucker." Danny replied. "The movies perpetuating negative stereotypes about monsters were made by humans who didn't know monsters exist, while all monsters who make movies know humans exist."

"They could make films about real incidents like the one that ended the peaceful coexistence that once existed between monsters and humans." Sam suggested.

"The film made about this is a documentary." Danny explained.

"Is this some joke, Danny?" Sam asked.

"Sam." Tucker scolded his goth friend. "You know Danny's jokes aren't that funny."

"Thanks for the comment, Tucker." Danny sarcastically replied. "But no, Sam, that wasn't a joke."

"Perhaps the monsters' idea of a horror movie features beautiful girls like Paulina or Star." Tucker suggested.

"It makes sense." Sam said. "As much as I hate seeing monster girls being cheerleaders, it gives me relief knowing they wear black uniforms."

"Sam, Clawdeen and her friends aren't that bad." Danny said.

"That's the problem, Danny." Tucker joked. "She wants monsters to be monsters."

"More like she wants them to be goth." Danny said.

"More like she wants her friends to stop talking about her like she's not here." Sam replied, glaring at them.

"Sorry, Sam." The boys said.

"But, Tucker, why do you ask about Clawdia?" Danny asked. "Did you give up on Howleen?"

"No, but she hasn't responded yet." Tucker said. "The race is on. The first wolf to tell me 'yes' wins."

"I wonder how many years it will take before that happens." Sam replied, teasing Tucker.

"Ha ha. Very funny, Sam." Tucker sarcastically replied.

"Anyway, Danny, ask if Clawdia wants to make a movie about you and if I can play my own part in it." Tucker eagerly asked.

"Tucker!" Sam scolded her technology-obsessed friend.

"Sorry." Tucker said. "Ask if Sam and I can play our own parts."

"I'm not going to talk about the idea of making a movie about me unless Clawdia talks about it first." Danny replied.

"Danny, talk to her." Tucker pleaded. "I want to do the scenes where I date cheerleaders."

"Tucker, that never happened, not even when Danny was a judge at that damn beauty pageant." Sam replied.

"It would have happened if Danny had chosen one of them instead of you as the winner." Tucker whimpered.

"Danny made the right choice." Sam argued.

"No, he should have chosen someone who actually tried to win, with or without a bribe." Tucker countered.

"Preferably without." Maddie said as she brought some cookies. "Want some?"

"Yes, Mom. Thank you." Danny replied as he and his friends grabbed some cookies. Somehow, they could hear Jack Fenton moaning.

"Jack, I still have cookies for you." Maddie said with a frustrated tone.

"Yay!" Jack exclaimed with joy.

"Danny, did your mom use soy milk in these cookies?" Sam asked, being an ultra-recyclo-vegetarian.

"I don't know, Sam." Danny replied.

"I used it, yes." Maddie shouted from another room.

"Okay, Mrs. Fenton." Sam said and ate her cookie.
