Izuku walked towards the King's Dragon. 'A surprise,' Ochaco told him. 'She said that you should expect something wonderful.' Intrigued, he followed her instructions.
He opened the door and saw his Mina welcoming him. "There you are, Daddy! Welcome to our surprise Christmas Party."
He looked around as most of the Knights of the Lake members were around, and Eri having a cake and orange juice. "Whose idea is this? Yours, Chosen?"
"Nope. This is all Ochaco's idea. We just made it happen. Owning a bar is really neat for organizing parties."
"I'd imagine owning a castle works as well."
Ochaco appeared on his right, wearing a white dress. "A castle has no shortage of space, dearest. But it is also full of trivial mice with big ears; keeping a secret in a castle is far from trivial. And I did want this to be a surprise for you. After the havoc of Court, you deserve some time with just the Knights of the Lake."
"That's sweet of you, Love."
"Anyway, Daddy; we closed the bar for other guests, ordered in some food, and Ochaco's opened her wine cellar to us. Your wine cellar, I should say."
"I have a wine cellar? Nobody told me."
"Of course we do, dearest. A thousand years' worth of collected wines and liquors from Elsewhere and the Old World. Even Nana would struggle to make a significant inroads in it."
Izuku laughed, "She may take that up as a challenge."
"That is fine. And I have another surprise for you, Izuku."
"Is it a lingerie?"
"If it were, I would hardly tell you, My Love. You would only see me wear it on our bed," she teased. "But no, it is something else. The reason I was trying to clear the paperwork as soon as possible. There is a special day, not too far away."
"Your birthday, yes. Three more days."
"Amongst others, yes. Have you found a present?"
Izuku rubbed the back of his neck andsucked in a sharp breath through his teeth. "Not yet..."
"Oh, dear. Now I feel quite sad," she pouted.
"Don't worry, I'll find something perfect," he quickly reassured her. "Just give me a bit more time."
"Of course, dearest. Take your time. You still have three more days."
"So what do we do now?"
"Eat. Drink. Spend some time with your followers. They uprooted themselves at a moment's notice to be here with you; always remember that loyalty is a two-way street."
"And you?"
"I shall do the same. Though this may be your Chosen's pub, we are still very much the hosts of this party. Now, off you go, dearest."
"Sure," he kissed her on the cheek and joined the group. Izuku spotted Yui drinking by the fireplace, the dancing flames casting shifting shadows across her usually stoic features. She fidgeted with her wine glass as he approached, the rich burgundy liquid catching the firelight.
Flustered, she quickly greeted him. "Izuku, I mean, Your Highness. Majesty?" she groaned, unfamiliar with the appropriate title.
"Just call me Izuku," he smiled. "How's life at Court?"
"Busy. Lord Anton knows more about healing magic and anatomy than most libraries combined. I'm trying to fit it all in my head. But I like your library." She closed her eyes and imagined the library, the floating bookshelves, the ceiling that stretch almost indefinitely, filled with first editions of every single text. So many thought to be lost in one building. It was a wonder, even containing Merlin's hand-written books.
Izuku observed her usually stoic expression, now with an almost unnoticeable smile and a sparkle on her eyes.
"Just a few books we threw together," he shrugged.
She smirked, "You've never been there, have you?"
"Nope," he immediately answered. "Do they have much in terms of Quirks?"
"I haven't seen many, but there should be some. You should see some of them. I could recommend them for you."
"Sure. It could be fun," he answered. "Is that your way of inviting me?"
"Haven't you had enough girls already?"
"Nah. I don't see why I won't make more girls happy. So long as they don't fight amongst themselves. Too much." His eyes met hers, holding her gaze. "And you didn't deny it."
She looked down at her glass, a faint color rising in her cheeks. "We'll see." The words came out softer than she intended, and she took another sip to hide her expression.
"Looks like you're adjusting well to your position."
"Urghk-! Minus points already," she sipped her wine.
"What did I do?"
"Stressed me out than I already am. I've got actual trained Healers sniffing around my door, judging me."
"I doubt anyone's judging you more harshly than yourself."
"Maybe not. But they're right to judge me. I'm technically a school dropout pretending to be a doctor. In Japan, that would get me in prison. I half-way wish they'd do it here."
"I'm sure the Queen would pardon you, Yui," he looked at her in the eye. "There's not a lot of people I really trust in this world. You're on that short list."
The sincerity in his voice caught her off guard. "Low blow," she frowned, though the pink tint on her face betrayed her. She took another sip at her glass, trying to take her mind away from her budding feelings.
"Learned it from my Chosen. What are you drinking."
Her eyes looked away from him in an effort to avoid the intensity of his gaze, but that only served to make her more flustered. She glanced back, only to see him patiently waiting for her answer. "74-year-old Mouton Rothchild."
"Any good? I'm sticking to the King's Dragon tap for now. I might settle with Nana to do some serious drinking later," he glanced at the older Evoker. 'Not to mention running my plan through her.'
"Your wife brings the finest wines from both our world, and Tír na nÓg, and you're drinking whatever tap beer here is?" she raised her eyebrow, clearly doubting his taste.
"I'm a man of simple pleasures. Give me a cold beer, Ochaco by my side and the castle of my enemies burning behind me, and I'm happy. Besides, this beer's really good; I'm going to see if Mina could give me a few barrels for The Crowley. Nemuri's gonna enjoy this, I'm sure."
"I'll stick with the fancy wine, thank you. And yes, it's exceptional."
"All good. So long as you're happy."
"Sure," she gave him a rare smile. "Now, go bother someone else."
"Fine, fine. See ya, Yui," he waved goodbye, making his way through the warm room. The scent of mulled wine and hearth smoke filled the air as he walked near the bar, he spotted Hakone no Kitsune sitting alone, her three silver tails curled defensively around her stool. The isolation felt deliberate - and somehow wrong for a celebration.
He slid onto the stool beside her. "Mongrel," she hissed at him, her voice a sharp contrast on the warmth of the party.
"And a very merry Christmas to you too, Foxy." Seeing his lack of animosity, she narrowed her eyes at him but Izuku continued on. "I wanted to thank you, Foxy. For helping Ochaco, Mina, and Momo. And Kinoko, Kyouka, Yui, Toru, and Ibara. For keeping them all safe."
"It was my duty. And I failed. I was not strong enough," she spat bitterly. "Not fast enough. If you had not returned, I would have failed my honor."
"And without you, I would also have arrived too late to stop her. Undead thot necromancers can be a pain in the ass to deal with; don't beat yourself up about it. They're all safe, thanks to you."
Hesitantly, she looked at him in the face, opening her mouth to say something before closing them again. There were a couple of false starts, but she eventually found her words. "I...I have not treated you as you deserve. As honor commands. I humbly apologize for my actions."
"Yeah, we kinda got off on the wrong foot. What's your trouble with me, anyway?" Izuku asked. Since the beginning, she had shown hostile actions to him, and even thought their first meeting would escalate to full-on firing nukes. He never thought much about it, but at the back of his mind, it also bothered him, if only a little.
"You are ignorant, Mongrel," she stated in a matter-of-fact way.
Izuku raised an eyebrow. "You really need to work on your apologizing skills, Foxy."
Hakone no Kitsune's eyes narrowed, her gaze intense. "I do not mean it as an insult, Izuku. You are ignorant of far too many things. Of things you should know. Things that are important for you to know."
Izuku leaned back, his expression thoughtful. "Like what?"
She studied him carefully, her eyes narrowing further. "Tell me, what do you know of Japan's Pantheon?"
"Not much, to be honest. I haven't encountered any of them 'til now. But you mentioned about worshipping Hoori, right?"
She rolled her eyes at his ignorance. "The Kitsune swore fealty to Hoori. We do not worship him like some crazed kit, howling in the hopes that it will provide supper."
"Okay..." he said, clearly not understanding what she meant. 'That was weirdly specific.'
"You should already know that the lines of Elsewhere and your world is more blurred there than most civilizations. Both Gods and Demons have found a home there, much like you have found home here in Elsewhere."
"Makes sense."
"Hoori's father was one of the first to do so, leaving the Sun Court in Elsewhere to live in your Realm. Many of the Creatures of Japanese Elsewhere came with him, such as my Grandmother. I was born there," she recounted the history taught to every member of the Kitsune clan.
"And how is this relevant?" he noticed a beer he was about to order was placed by Mina. Thanking her, he went back to the Kitsune.
"Bloodlines are everything, Mongrel. And yours is an Abomination."
"And here I thought my father was quite respected, as gods go."
"Your Father should have known better than to try to recreate the Firstborn on his own; your mother is not The Mother, and without her, you are a crippled creature. Blind. Deaf. Dumb."
"Don't make me blush now," this time, it was his turn to roll his eyes in exasperation. He tried being diplomatic and this is how she treats him. "The Firstborns? I heard they're my half-brothers and sisters?" He never believed that before, but he was now considering if they were true.
"Merlin's botched creation shouldn't even be uttered in the same sentence as them. He is no match for their majesty and might."
"I take this 'botched creation' is me?"
"Yes. An Abomination, as I said."
"Gee, thanks Foxy. So are we going to try to be civil about this, or are you going to get your tails singed?"
"Of course, Mongrel."
"Starting with no longer calling me a mongrel. Or abomination, for that matter. You may call me Izuku, or Boss, or even Danna-sama if you felt like it. But I will have your respect as your war-leader, or I will have your tails for wall-hangings. Do we understand each other, Hakone no Kitsune?"
For the first time, Hakone no Kitsune's eyes were not filled with contempt and disdain, but with shock and respect. Her tail, which she was unconsciously playing with, stiffened. "Yes. Very well, Izuku. Though I will never call you Danna-sama."
"I'll take what I can get, Kitsune. Enjoy your drink," he downed his tankard, leaving her to her thoughts.
The Fox-kin stared at his back, his imposing frame filling her vision. The air seemed to crackle with tension as he moved, the power of his presence a palpable force. It was a strange sensation, a mixture of fear and respect, and it set her fur on edge. She watched him make his way towards the crowd, his mere presence eliciting smiles and cheers. The Evoker was a strong male, potentially stronger than even her lord, if his role was anything to go by. And the way he talked, his voice low and commanding. The tails on her back twitched, a sign of excitement that she would normally ignore. But this time, they had a mind of their own.
Yet nothing should...would come out of this. He was her mistress' man. Not to mention Sun Goddess' little brother. It would never come to be.
The sound of familiar laughter drew Izuku's attention. As he turned, he saw his three Chosen sitting together near the bar's wooden counter, their heads bent close in conversation. Mina's animated gestures contrasted with Momo's elegant poise, while Itsuka watched them both with amused tolerance. The sight made something warm settle in his chest.
As he approached, Mina's eyes lit up. "Hi, Daddy! Wanna join us?"
"Gladly. How are you doing, ladies?"
"Much better now that you are here with us, Daddy."
"I meant the whole bartender thing. It's hard work, sometimes. I should know."
"Oh, it's fun, Daddy. The three of us together. Momo manages the kitchen, Itsuka the security. I handle the bar."
Surprised, he looked at the Seer. "I didn't know you can cook, Momo."
She smiled proudly. "There are many things you didn't know about me, Danna-sama. But that's fine. We'll have time to learn about each other. I often helped in the kitchen at home," her voice trailing off as she went on.
"You sound sad about that."
Rather, her face scrunched up, as if she had just smelled something unpleasant. "If I ever return, things will be different. It was once my home, and I was once next in line as its head. Now it is a place inhabited by strangers who fear you and, through you, me."
"How was it, growing up?"
"More peaceful that you'd think. Life there was designed in harmony. Inner and outer peace so every ripple in the fabric of time can be sensed as clearly as possible."
"And here?"
"It's like growing up from a Zen garden to kindergarten. There was never a moment of quiet around these two. I have no idea where they got this much energy from."
"Sorry."
"Oh, don't be, Danna-sama. There's less peace, but a whole lot of more fun, and I have found new Sisters I love more than almost anyone else. And I'm here, close to you."
"As long as you're happy."
"Always, Danna-sama."
"And how's the work at the security, Itsuka?"
"Yeah. It was fun. Only issue is remembering the hostiles were supposed to be alive so they could come back tomorrow. Thankfully, I had some time to unlearn a few instincts back in UA."
"Just watch out of for the Forest Pixies. They could be tricky."
"Will do, Master."
"What about the bar, Mina? Enjoying your time as much as these two?"
"I am, Daddy. Most of the customers are, like, super nice. And the one that tried to get handsy got a stern talking by Itsuka. Didn't have trouble after that."
"I can imagine, yeah." Few people were brave or dumb enough to mess with a Werewolf, and Itsuka was a Chosen Werewolf, on top of that.
Their chat was interrupted by someone opening the door; a woman in fancy clothing choosing to ignore the CLOSED sign. Itsuka moved in superspeed to the door, intercepting her.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am, this is a private function," Itsuka politely informed her, holding the door.
Though the woman clearly had more indignation than sense, as Izuku watched try to push past Itsuka. She'd have a much better luck pushing Jupiter out of orbit.
"No, Ma'am. You do not have a reservation. This is a private function," she repeated, looking down on the short woman. "Please come back another day."
The woman was now angry, almost shaking.
"No, Karen," she mockingly called the woman. "You really don't want to talk to my manager. Now go away, before you hurt yourself."
Meanwhile, Izuku found the scene to be entertaining, if anything. "It's almost like she's turning purple, doesn't it, Mina?" he turned to the Sorceress who was doing the same.
"I have no doubt that you were very good friends with the previous owner. Unfortunately, he's currently...indisposed. The King's Dragon in under new management," Itsuka was firm and resolute.
This only pissed the woman further, she hissed something venomous at Itsuka.
Itsuka shrugged and waved at Izuku's direction. "Of course. You are welcome to take it up with the government. In fact, the King is just over there. Want me to fetch him?"
The woman's eyes almost of their sockets, as they met with the figure which terrorized Camelot that day. "Hi," Izuku greeted.
"That would be the man that set the nice Mr. Traitor on fire, yes," Itsuka corrected Karen. "The name's been struck from the rolls, remember? In fact, I think he's coming over now."
Running. It was all Karen could do. She had no intention of dying a horrible death like that man did, and she ran until her lungs were screaming, her heart pounding, her feet aching. Her footsteps could be heard from the other part of the city.
"Everything okay, Itsuka?" Izuku approached his Chosen.
"Oh, dear. She ran away. This whole customer service job is so difficult," Itsuka deadpanned.
"I'm sure you do just fine, Chosen."
"Of course, Master. Please go ahead and join the others. I'll need to wash away the taste of stale Karen out of my mouth."
"Sounds good," he told her. He looked around and joined Nana, who was clearly waiting for him for some serious drinking.
"Hey, Izuku. This is some seriously good booze yer wife brought along. Here, try this one," she handing him a bottle. "Tír na nÓg something other Brandy, I think. It'll put hair on your balls."
"Thanks, Your Grace. It is good to hear our humble establishment is to your liking," he teased her.
"Feck off, Loverboy. I cannae take that shit from ye as well. Gran nearly shat herself laughing when she heard Ah'd been made a Duchess. Ah'll never fecking live this dawn."
"Been back to your family lately?"
"Aye; some of us dun stay in bed playin' like newlyweds all day. First up is the Glade, check things out. Then to The Clan, to gather some firepower. Then to the Glade, and finally, here for the surprise party."
"How's the new digs?"
"A feckin' mess," she grimaced. "Most of the extended Jerk clan were part of the BBQ in Mitburgh. A couple of remote cousins were busy tryin' ta steal the silverware when I showed up. Sent the little fecks fleeing, singed and with me boots up their asses."
"Fun times, it seems."
"Aye. So, that left me with no nobles, a bunch of frightened villagefolk cowering from the scary Evoker, and no retainers. Ye dunnae do shit the easy way for me, do ye?"
"'To whom much is given, much is expected.'"
"Aye? Then dun give me a huge headache next time. Ah went to do some recruitin' so the place is crawling with Clan now."
"Your family's helping you out? You know, Ochaco would've found a way to help you, if you needed it. Or me, for that matter."
"I was Clan before anything else and we stand together. It'll cost a fortune to feed them all though. Lots of them are comin' along with the Werewolves and some Werelynxes."
"Is it really in a bad shape? I thought this was the Jerk...traitor...family seat?"
He knew it was cliché to have the villains living in ruined castles, with decor that would make even Fumikage think it was too dark and make Minoru's place sanitary, but he didn't expect that to be the case in real life.
"Nah, it wasn't that bad. Just a bit of lootin', but that stopped after Ah set some guy on fire for tryin' to ransack me new wine cellar. It's mostly a peaceful, prosperous, place."
"So why the pack of Weres and a bunch of Bruisers?"
Her eyes sharpened. "'Cuz it ain't gonna stay that a peaceful place. Winter is coming, in case ye forgot. And when that time comes, Lancaster Glade will be a fortified strongpoint."
"Indeed," Izuku chuckled, pleased to see she was the same as ever. "I wanted to talk to you about that, actually. I'm sick and tired of the Cult nipping our heels."
"The Thot's temporarily put out of action; she wun come back until she's gotten another backup setup and safe. An' little Momo gave one of their Seers the True death; the rest ain't gonna be all that keen to tangle with her after that."
"Sure, but all that's temporary. Sooner or later, they'll come back."
"Aye? That's always the problem with the Cult; it's like playing whack-a-mole," she chugged her bottle before smacking it on the table. "Snag me another one, will ye?"
Izuku raised his arms and immediately, Mina handed him the bottle. "I was thinking something more...thorough," he opened the bottle, inhaling the intoxicating aroma. He raised a brow at this. This seemed to be the good stuff.
"Izuku, the Cult Lords are paranoid about their backups. They'll be hidden and Shielded in some vaults in Zurich, or Milan, or in the deep Catacombs under Dresden or Rome. Ye dun know where they are, and if ye did, ye'd need an army to get to them," she reasoned, taking the bottle from his hand, pouring a glass for herself and another for him.
Izuku drank the alcohol. Strangely enough, he felt the kick. He, of all people, felt it. "Damn, what's this made out of? Anyway, I don't think they could hide from Mina and Momo. Not if the two of them started hunting for their backup."
"Aye? So ye can find the backup. Ye're still not getting to them before they jump, Izuku. You cannae be in two places at once, and when ye pierce the Veil hiding them, they'll be sure to know ye're coming."
"I'm thinking two teams. You take one, I take the other. Once you hit the primary, I'll go after the backup. Or vice versa. Momo pierces the Veil and we'll be anywhere in the world within 10 minutes."
"I'm the one with the Float Quirk, Izuku. How are ye supposed to do that?"
"Two word: Private Jets."
"Whuh?"
"Yeah. Turns out, there's a private jet at our disposal. We could fit two fists in it."
"Yer talking about full-on invasion. By a foreign Head of State. Izuku, ye cannae gate-crash some random vault in Zurich, even if yer hunting necromancers. The Swiss will lose their shit."
"Then they can take it up with me...and explain why they're aiding the enemies of humanity," he countered, leaning back in his chair.
"They're bankers, Izuku. It's not as if they ain't done worse before."
"Winter is coming, like you said. And I suspect you'll find the rules for collaboration with the Cult will be changing."
"There you are, My Heart. Duchess Shimura."
"Oh, hi, Ochaco. Would you like a glass of this brandy-thing Nana and I are drinking?"
"I shall pass, dearest. I bought those bottles along especially for Nana and you. Maybe Itsuka."
"Why not?"
"Those of us with merely mortal digestive systems should probably be careful with it. It is brewed in Tír na nÓg; last time it was served in Camelot, we ended up fishing a Harvest God, who shall remain anonymous, out of the central fountain. For most, it is more fatal than downing a gallon of botulinum toxin."
"It doesn't feel that strong. There was a kick, but it's mostly nice and smooth."
"Burns like acid, but this...'this a good burn, ken?" Nana swayed slightly, her eyes glazed and unfocused.
She stood up and walked towards him, her steps almost stumbling, her legs unsteady. Her fingers grasped his shoulders as she stared into his eyes.
"Are you okay?"
"Yer me bestest mate in the whole wide world, didya ken that, Izuku?" she slurred, her face inches from his.
"And you're mine, Nana. This is weird, I don't feel that drunk. X?"
'Yes, Boss?'
'Are you screwing with my metabolism?'
'Just taking the worst of the edge off the drink; it's just like drinking normal brandy for you.'
'Seems like a waste. And Nana?'
'It's designed to let a God get drunk; looks like it partially shuts down whatever self-healing trick you guys have.'
'So it's Moltovian Firebrandy for Gods? Damn, is she going to be okay?'
'She'll have one hell of a hangover tomorrow, but she should be okay. Maybe it'll teach her about putting random things in her mouth.'
'Hopefully not. I'd still rather enjoy that. But okay. Thanks for the heads up, X.'
"...And then, Princess, when ye find that person...that perfect beautiful, person ye're meant to be with...ye grab him, okay? Dun ever let 'im go. Cause if ye do, some other girl's sure to take him," Nana was now drunkenly giving Ochaco advice. For what? Izuku had no idea.
"Nana?" he called out, her face was now almost as red as Kinoko was when he first met her.
"I know, Nana. And I intend to," Ochaco patted her shoulder.
"I think you've had enough for tonight, Nana."
She frowned. "Ah'll say when Ah've had enough, thankyeverymuch! Yer not the boss of me!" she pointed her thumb at herself.
"Ackshually, if you look at the whole Duchess-King relationship..."
Ochaco giggled at her husband's antic. "Hush, My Love. Nana, dear, how are you feeling? Would you like to lie down for a rest?"
"Come, let's get her to her room."
"Dun wanna go," she swatted his hands from her shoulder. "All me mates are here. But Ah'll...just lie down. Rest me eyes," she lied face down on the table.
Ochaco looked at the older Evoker, knowing full well what she was referring to, but her husband was again too dense to realize. She only hoped it would not be a repeat of Momo. But she would have to let him handle it for now.
"Itsuka, can you make sure she gets put to bed later?" Izuku asked.
"Will do, Master. Just send her over whenever. That's actually quite impressive, seeing her drunk."
"Blame the faeries spiking her drink."
"It ain't me fault, mom...the cat had it coming," Nana slurred.
"Poor Nana, I never realized it would hit her so hard."
"Oh, she'll get over it. Probably will ask another bottle."
He eyed the quartet, his ambassadors, as Ochaco called them. She saw where he was looking, and with a smile, "You should go talk to them further, My Heart. I shall be with Eri."
"Sure, Love."
He approached the girls and took a seat. Each of them seemingly having an animated discussion. Kyouka was the first to notice him. "Hey, uh...Izuku. Sir. Sit with us," she stood up from her seat and offered it.
"Sure, Kyouka." He wasn't sure if that was necessary, but didn't question it and sat on the chair. The moment his ass touched the seat, Kyouka claimed his right lap.
"Ah. That's unfair!" Toru exclaimed. Neither Kinoko nor Ibara reacted to it.
"You can take the other, you know?" Izuku offered. "But what's the matter, Kyouka?"
"I just want to. Being near you is nice. Is that a problem?" Kyouka pouted, her arms around his neck.
"Of course not. If you're happy, then I'm happy. So do you girls know what you'll be doing?"
"We're mostly looking to get back to Japan, shroom. The role Ochaco-san gave us isn't really that useful here, shroom," Kinoko answered, as she drank her water.
"We have to gather Followers for My Lord. It would be the best way to help Him," Ibara clasped her hands, her normally dull eyes sparkling as she talked about Izuku.
"I told you, Ibara-chan. I doubt we'll be effective there now, shroom," Kinoko said thoughtfully. "Most people there still see Quirks as the foundation of society, shroom. They won't easily accept talk of gods and magic."
"But that's exactly why we must start there!" Ibara clasped her hands together. "Where better to begin than where faith has been replaced by science?"
"I think you we're getting ahead of ourselves," Kyouka interjected, her jacks swaying pensively. "Maybe we should focus on building connections first? Like at UA?"
Her words caught Izuku's attention. "What are they talking about, Ibara?"
"I am sure, My Lord, that it is part of your Father's plan, for you to lead Humanity towards Salvation. When the angels descend with their vials of wrath and turn the oceans to Blood, when the faithful make their final sacrifice of Loyalty, Service, and Love, I know My Lord shall guide us through the tribulation into Paradise. But first, we must gather the chosen before the false pantheons lead them astray. Amen."
The words felt familiar, though he couldn't remember where he heard them. It wasn't one of Mina's prophecies, he was sure of that. But when and where?
"I guess that's one way to lead people..." Izuku's eyebrows were raised, as he tried to process Ibara's words. Sighing, he looked at the quartet. "Okay. You'd have to have something to do with your positions. But refrain on forming it for now. We don't really need it yet, and you'll more than likely paint a target on your back without proper support."
"Your Will shall be done, My Lord."
"She's really taking this priestess role very seriously, huh?" Toru muttered, discretely sitting on his lap. "By the way, what are your plans for later?"
"I'm actually going back to Japan with Ochaco and Eri. And I'd want to take the other girls out for lunch, if possible."
"Oooh~ Are they going to meet each other? You're going on a three-way date, Izuku?" Toru leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"Not really, no. That'd be too much. Especially since they didn't know each other."
"And do we know them?" Kyouka asked, her face still buried on the crook of his neck.
"One of them, at least. But the other should be familiar."
"I...see, shroom," Kinoko pondered, "I'm sure they're all good people. By the way, can you take us along to Japan, shroom?"
"Sure, why not? Do you girls need some time to get ready?"
The four of them stood up, Kyouka and Toru seemingly felt reluctant leaving his lap. Her jacks lingered on his arm for a moment, before reluctantly moving.
"I'll go tell Ochaco. Meet us by the bridge," he stood up and walked towards his wife and daughter; Ochaco was patting her head, smiling at their daughter while the little girl wore a determined expression. Izuku explained his plans and the three were soon standing by the bar's doorway.
They went back to their room and wore their armor. Eri wore a pink dress, truly selling her royal status as she clung to Izuku. As the trio walked the hallways, Izuku noticed the servants watched them silently as the King and Queen strode through the hall in full martial splendor.
"You'd think they were used to this by now."
"Hardly," Ochaco told him. "My Father rarely dressed for War; it was not a role he treasured, though he had the abilities for it. And most of them have never seen me geared in full armour; my training was usually with the Knights and guards."
"They looked like a bunch of chihuahuas that suddenly woke up and found their rulers to be wolves."
"Be nice, dearest," she gently chided him, though he could sense her mirth. However, her eyes narrowed and her jaw tightened as she spotted a familiar face appearing in front of them. "Lord Chamberlain, to what do we owe the pleasure?"
"Wassup, Henry?" Izuku greeted him sarcastically.
"Your Majesty, may I inquire where you are going?"
"Back to Japan to celebrate Christmas and her birthday."
Shocked, the chamberlain stammered, "But...Your Highness...I...we have been planning public festivities for your Birthday. A substantial number of important Nobles have reached out about attending and being presented to You...and Your consort and the bas-."
Izuku drew Excalbur-
"My husband, Lord Henry," her voice was cold, and it was not a tone Izuku had heard her use with him. "And my daughter. Do not forget yourself. He is my King, and yours...not a mere consort. And stay your tongue about our daughter or it will be gift-wrapped to your family as a holiday gift. As for the Nobles, my husband and I will receive them in the Great Hall in January. A new year, and hopefully an improved working relationship between the Crown and the Council."
The face of the chamberlain blanched, the man clearly not expecting such a response.
"Or else," Izuku muttered.
"As for the loyal Lords, I have already had the meetings I require. I know the Nobles you refer to; mostly the ones whose luck, or indecision, prevented them from being at Mitburgh. I certainly intend to keep track of them, though not to the extent of ruining my birthday to meet with them."
"And with that, Henry. We're off. Miles to walk before we sleep and all that."
"Very well, Your Highness. We shall await you back on the 28th."
"Later."
As they were walking along the halls, Ochaco turned to Izuku. "You will need to learn to hide your feelings better, dearest. People will use them against you."
"Seems like a high-risk sport, considering what happened to the last bunch who pissed me off."
"A bull is easily guided, My Heart. Do remember that."
"You can do the ruling. I'll do the smiting."
"You are the King, My Heart. I will not rule in your place."
"And you are the Queen. We are equals. But you will have a nation to govern while I have the war to prosecute. Against the Cult first, then later, against the Necromancer."
Their eyes looked at each other, as if challenging the other to look away. But eventually, Ochaco sighed, looking ahead. "Very well. Though do not think that absolves you from all your duties."
"Oh, look. There are the others," he then called out to Itsuka, Kinoko, Ibara, Toru, and Kyouka.
"Hello, Master," Itsuka greeted. "Ochaco invited me to tag along."
"Perfect timing, then. Let's go."
As they crossed the Northern Bridge, Izuku asked Ochaco, "What happens if we turn west here?"
"We would pass Castrum Prime and eventually exit through the Prime Gate, ending up in Kent. In theory, we could take the Jet up to Japan, if you prefer?"
"Nah, let's stick to the Paths. Feels more comfortable."
"Some might say you were born for this," she smiled, her eyes crinkling slightly.
"Very funny. Itsuka, I'll be staying in Japan until New Year's Eve Party...Ochaco's expected back at Camelot for a couple of days."
"Want me to tag along as a bodyguard?"
"Yeah. You're smart enough to spot trouble and strong enough to handle pretty much anything that can keep up with the two of you. Keep her safe, Chosen. If anything happens, don't hesitate to draw from me."
"Will do, Master."
"Do you have plans once in Japan?"
"I have a cousin arriving in Mustafu this evening. We'll get shitfaced and I'll check some of my contacts if there's anything you need to know, Master."
"That's good. Though you could just relax, you know? Spirit of the holiday, and all that."
"Nah, I don't think Grýla or Krampus would appreciate it," she joked as they traversed through the Paths. Halfway through the journey, Izuku carried Eri as she slowly fell asleep.
Before long, they reached The Crowley.
"And we have arrived, Master. Thank you for flying Chosen Airlines: Elsewhere's most reliable Airline...where more than 90% of our trips are Necro free," Itsuka said in a fake announcer's voice, which was quickly followed by chuckles.
"Thanks, Itsuka. You've been hanging around Mina too much."
"Thank you for your company, Dame Itsuka," Ochaco smiled. "We shall see each other again on the 28th."
They each bid farewell to Itsuka and the quartet. Each of them going their own way. Eri even woke up briefly to wave goodbye to them.
Climbing the stairs, the trio found something they didn't expect. Izuku immediately covered Eri's eyes, which confused the little girl. They found Midnight sitting on the table, her hands resting on Inko's behind. Inko's arms were wrapped around the R-18 hero's neck and her eyes shut.
"Oh...my..." Ochaco awkwardly mumbled, averting her eyes.
"On second thought, maybe we should get changed first," Izuku told them.
"There you are, Izuku. I was beginning to despair at you never coming back in time for dinner," Midnight greeted them, which surprised Inko. His mother's face looked like she saw a ghost.
"Izuku...this isn't what it looks like," Inko immediately tried to justify herself.
"Of course it isn't, Mom...We'll see you two later," he said as he guided his family back into their rooms.
Once inside, the quiet Ochaco began, "Really? Your Mother? And Midnight-sensei? Poor dear, she must be mortified, being seen like that by her son."
"Just renewing old friendships, I guess. It's no different when I was thirteen when she saw me and..."
"And what, dearest? Or should that be whom?"
"N-Nevermind. Not important."
"If you say so. I shall go ahead and shower, while you could change out of your armour. While it is appropriate in Court, I doubt it will be on your mother's Dining table."
"Sure. I'll also check my email for the time being. Haven't seen it in 3 days."
"Okay, My Heart," she walked to the bathroom, carrying her bags.
"What happened, Papa?" Eri asked him.
"I'll tell you when you're older," he patted her head. She wasn't satisfied with the answer, but she trusted him enough to explain everything.
While waiting for his family to finish their business, Izuku checked his computer. Nothing much had changed. A few spam emails here and there, a message from Mina of her poledancing. The usual stuff.
Though there was an email notifying him that a parcel was delivered. Thinking he'd bring it up with Nemuri later, he decided to change to his casual clothes.
He grinned, thinking he had a little playful revenge on his mother when she walked up on him with a box of tissue and lotion.
"What are you muttering about, husband?" Ochaco finished, she and Eri were dressed for winter, each having a thick sweater and scarf, their hands in warm gloves.
"Oh, nothing. Nothing at all."
"If you say so, dearest."
As the three went downstairs, they only saw Midnight waiting for them. "There you are, Izuku. How was Camelot?"
"'Tis a silly place," he quoted, making Midnight chuckle.
"...Evening, hun," Inko greeted him after coming out of the bathroom, her expression looked mortified.
"Evening, what's for dinner?"
"I was looking for some fried chicken, but those seem all sold out. So I could only get some Chirashi Sushi. And...of course, I prepared some katsudon for you."
"Thanks, mom."
"Come sit. We'll have some tea before eating," she pointed towards the dining table.
The room was lit with a series of small candles, with the table itself set for five people. The five of them joined the table, and said a quick 'Itadakimasu' before continuing.
"So," Midnight started, swirling the white wine on her glass. "What do you intend to do now?"
"Ochaco goes back home on the 28th. I'll likely join her in the New Year's."
"That's nice, hun," Inko replied. "I'll be going back home on the third."
"Will you be attending the wedding?"
"When is it planned for?"
Izuku looked at his wife, checking if Ochaco set the date already. "14th of February, dearest. These things need to be planned ahead of time," she explained.
"Ah. Valentine's day, then? That's sweet. I'll be sure to attend."
"Yeah, it'll mean a lot for both of us," Izuku held Ochaco's hand, his fingers intertwining with hers.
"Would you join me for a walk, husband?" Ochaco asked him.
"Sure. Where to?"
"I have an idea, just follow me."
After saying goodbye to Inko and Midnight, the family then followed Ochaco to the location. It was a nice hill, overlooking the city. The cold winds blew towards them. Izuku, despite only wearing a simple shirt, wasn't affected by it. While Eri was more used to the colder environment, Ochaco still felt the chill.
Izuku wrapped his arm around her, trying to give her warmth. Which succeeded, as Ochaco felt comfortably warm in his embrace.
"Sorry. I should've grabbed a jacket or something."
"Do not worry, My Love. If anything I prefer your arms around me than a jacket," she leaned her head on his shoulder as they walked. They found a good spot for a view. The scene before them as the evening sun painted the city in its golden hue evoked an emotion within the couple, as they looked back on the past few months since they reunited from the Entrance Exam. "The sunset it beautiful here," she sat together with their daughter.
"I'm sure it'll be a good place to watch fireworks for New Year's," Izuku muttered, feeling a bit nostalgic.
"Fireworks?" Eri wondered aloud.
"They're these little balls of explosives," he began, trying to find the right words to describe the spectacle, "and they are placed inside a tube. And when someone lights the fire, the ball then launches itself upwards. When the ball reaches its peak, it explodes. Then, there's a bright flash of light and loud sound. Some also have colors."
The girl couldn't follow her father's explanation. She looked at her mother, hoping she would provide a better one.
"What Papa said is true, Eri," Ochaco pondered a bit before continuing. "They are like those you see in the movie during happily ever after. They should be beautiful."
"'Should be'?" Eri tilted her head.
"It was never used in Elsewhere so I have never seen one either. Too many things might be tempted to see what is making the racket. Let us see it for the first time together, Eri," Ochaco held her daughter's hand.
"Okay, Mama."
"Then it's a plan," Izuku declared. "We'll watch the fireworks here on New Year''s Eve."
"I shall look forward to it, dearest," she leaned further into him. Their daughter's eyes were fixed on the city, trying to find any hint of the fireworks she would soon see.
"Not yet, Little Snowball," Izuku chuckled. They stayed there, for who knew how long. The golden light of the setting sun soon turned orange, and transitioning to red as time went by. Eventually, Eri closed her eyes and nodded off from the scene.
"We should head back soon," Izuku told her, looking at his watch. It was barely six, but winter season did ensure that the sun would set earlier.
"Soon, My Heart. I have something for you. A Christmas gift," Ochaco whispered, taking something from the pocket.
"You didn't have to, you know?"
"You have given me so many things, it is only fair I gave you something special back. And this will hopefully keep you safe, even when I am not by your side," she handed something to him.
Immediately, he recognized it as a gemstone—a pink diamond, roughly the size of a golf ball. Its flawless, symmetrical cut gleamed under the light, each facet refracting a soft pink shimmer. Cool to the touch, smooth yet rigid, it carried a silent whisper of something precious yet unbreakable.
Ochaco watched his expression as he studied the object before hugging him. "It's a very special gem," she started to explain. "A wedding gift to my great grandmother. It was part of her crown, but I removed it for you. A True Flawless Shield Gem; may it keep you safe in the war to come."
"You dismantled Guinevere's crown for me?" Izuku couldn't believe it. He turned the gem over in his palm, feeling the weight of not just the stone, but the history behind it. A piece of a queen's legacy, reforged into a safeguard for him. She was giving up something irreplaceable—just to protect him. For a moment, words failed him. He clutched the gem tightly. "Ochaco... I—thank you."
"She does not need it any more...and I desperately need you to return to me safely. If I could, I would shield you myself...but I fear I will not always be at your side. Especially as Arcus grows," she rubbed her belly.
"Yeah...I wouldn't want you to risk anything." If he could, he would wrap everyone he cared about, especially Ochaco and Eri, into a protective bubble, never letting any of them into danger. And Ibara's words kept bouncing in his mind. If there was even the slightest chance he would lose, that he wouldn't fulfill his destiny, he'd much rather die alone.
"So...If I am to watch you rush into danger without me...at least I know you are as protected as you can be," Ochaco's fingers ran through Izuku's hair, as she slowly closed her eyes and their lips met. "Stay safe, My Love. Come back to me. To us," both her hands patting their children. One was on Eri's hair, and the other her belly.
"Always."
"I am getting a little cold, dearest. Shall we return home?"
"Of course," Izuku carefully carried the little princess on his arms. The girl mumbled something, but he couldn't catch it fully. Something about her Papa not being alone.
"Hopefully we will not disturb the Lady Sorceress and your mother this time," Ochaco giggled.
"If they wanted privacy, they should have put a sock on their doorknob." They started walking.
"What would a sock do?"
"Oh, I read it somewhere. About putting a sock on the doorknob lets your roommate know that you're...busy."
"And so everyone will know that you are having sex? That seems a strange thing to share to the world. It must be mortifying for the poor girl, leaving the room with everyone knowing what she had been doing."
"It's called the 'walk of shame' for a reason."
"And this is something you have done?"
"Not really, but I tried to do a surprise visit to one of my classmates in highschool during one of his birthdays. Shoji walls doesn't provide any sound-proofing."
"Well, thankfully we avoided that fate."
"We did, however, manage to get you pregnant before the end of the first semester."
"Even more so the standards of Camelot royalty, yes," she playfully shoved his arm, as she continued, "You have been a terrible influence on me, dearest."
"And you've been an amazing one on me, Love."
Eventually, the skies turned dark as the sun set. But they weren't all that far from The Crowley. They found the CLOSED signage still there. Neither Midnight nor his mother was around so they went directly to their room and slept like logs.
And such, night turned to day, as Izuku woke up, Ochaco and Eri were still asleep. 'Last night must've exhausted them. At least it wasn't a case where she didn't want to start the day,' he thought as he let the two girls sleep in. He put on his shirt and pants and went downstairs, only to find Midnight seemingly waiting for him.
"Good morning, Izuku. Slept well?"
"As these things go. So...you and Mom?"
"Sometimes you met an old friend and it feels like the years between never happened. Now all we need is your father. Or a...suitable...replacement," she seductively licked her lips as she stared at him, her implication clear.
He had no reason to refuse Midnight, but like hell he'd do anything with his mother. He rolled his eyes, "You've been sniffing around my computer again, haven't you? I thought for sure I put a password on."
"It's adorable how you think a password would stop a Sorceress. Ochaco looks hot in those pictures, by the way."
"The digital age must've been good to you, huh?"
"Some things are still protected by stronger measures than mere passcodes. But where there's a will, there's a way," she grinned.
"By the way, did I get some kind of delivery while I was gone?"
"Ah, yes...the PonyExpress parcel?" she pulled out a box from behind the counter, clearly ready to give it to him. "There you go."
"Thanks," he looked at the box, half the size of his palm. It was meticulously packaged, clearly not one you'd expect from online sellers, even the premium ones. And it wasn't too heavy, so it was unlikely to be anything bulky.
"Go on, open it."
"Have you ever heard of the term privacy, Nemuri? 'Curiosity killed the cat,' and all that?"
"Ignorance killed the cat, Izuku," she corrected. "Curiosity was framed. Now go on, let's see who it's from," she leaned in closer.
"Fine," he opened the package. Inside was a smaller box and a letter with very intricate lettering. He read:
"Once upon a time, I made a ring for the first woman I ever loved, a symbol of our eternal connection. As my last child, I now give it to you. May you share the bonds of love, share that connection, and find happiness as I found it."
He opened it, and found a ring. The band was simple, but the centerpiece was elaborate, featuring flowing, curved gold that extended outwards in an organic, almost floral pattern. It held a clear diamond, set within the swirling gold framework. Just by holding it, Izuku felt it was no doubt special. Of course it was, based on the words of his father, this one belonged to...
"Are you okay, Nemuri?"
Midnight froze, just for a fraction of a second. Her fingers tightened imperceptibly around the counter before she forced herself to relax. The old memories crept in, unbidden—then, forcing herself to stay composed, she pushed them away.
"Maybe ignorance would have been preferable, after all."
"Why?"
"Just old memories, Izuku. It's a pretty little bauble. I take it you haven't given Ochaco a wedding ring yet?"
"Err...Hahaha..." he rubbed the back of his head in shame.
Midnight looked at him before sighing and shaking her head. "The girl marries you on your deathbed, making you both a god and a king, and you still haven't given her a ring? Izuku, if it wasn't for your divine destiny you would have been doomed to die a virgin."
"Hey, I managed quite well before UA, I'll have you know," he defended. He knew he was in the wrong, yes, but his stupid pride couldn't let her misunderstanding be.
"I'm sure you did," she sarcastically agreed. "Her birthday's coming up; it would make her a fine present."
"Is it magical? If so...what kind of magic?"
"I'm the wrong person to ask. Your Father leaves magic in everything he touches; if he crafted something with intent, you can be certain it's imbued. How...I do not know. But I doubt it is meant to harm you or Ochaco. Even so, it might be best to ask Lord Anton to take a look."
"I guess."
"Good morning, My Heart," Ochaco came out of nowhere. In panic, Izuku immediately hid the ring and its box in his pants.
"Good morning, Ochaco."
"What are you the two of you discussing?"
"A surprise, that's all. It's a season for surprises, after all. Hohoho," he replied unconvincingly. Midnight was facepalming behind him.
"So you tell me, dearest," she let it go. Seeing his expression, she could already read that it was a good surprise, at least. She decided to simply look forward to it.
"What's your plan today?"
"I have to discuss something with Principal Nezu about our absences and see if it will afford us some credits to move forward, should our battle with the Outsiders take too long. If not, it would be unfortunate since I wanted to do this the proper way, but I would need to see if we could be granted full licenses."
"Do you need me there?"
Shaking her head, she continued, "You should go relax and play around. Maybe have a father-daughter date with Eri. Train, if you want. I understand that this realm meant more to you and I want you to enjoy your stay before we become busy."
"Meanwhile, we're just two UA students without a care in the world."
"Except worrying for exams and homework, perhaps."
"Some of the homework was quite...rewarding," he grinned.
"I am quite certain you think so, dearest lecher. And it certainly ended up quite productive, though perhaps not merely in ways we anticipated."
"I regret nothing."
"Me neither, My Love. Now...we have our two last days in Japan in a while. Then Camelot awaits."
"Porcelain."
She frowned, her brows creasing and eyes hardened. "And intransigent nobles. I personally prefer the porcelain."
"I thought the rest of them were the loyal ones?"
"The loyal, the disinterested, and the slow. But even our loyal Nobles are prickly about their honour and ancient rights...some of them will fight us over the reforms we will enact. Camelot will gird itself for war. Our days of slow decline into irrelevance are over...for better, or worse."
"For better, I'm sure. But that can wait 'til next year. For now, let's enjoy our last days of freedom."
"As you say, Husband," she told him, already gathering her things. "I shall see you this evening?"
"Yeah. Let's," he smiled, watching her prepare for her meeting at UA.
Thanks for reading this chapter!
This chapter was particularly fun to write as it allowed us to explore how different characters interact in a more relaxed setting while still advancing important plot pointsabout their upcoming challenges and personal growth.
I wasn't sure if I had mentioned this before, but there's an interesting parallel between Izuku/Ochaco and Arthur/Gwen. While Izuku mirrors Arthur in destiny and Excalibur, his emotional journey—especially his bond with Nana (our Lancelot) and the protection Ochaco offers—echoes Guinevere. Meanwhile, Ochaco takes on Arthur's political acumen and temperament while also holding Guinevere's role and armour.
Though brief, I really enjoyed the exchange between Izuku and Midnight. She never expected to see that ring again, let alone so soon.
As always, questions, reaction, and feedback are welcome.
Next up will be the second date with Nejire-Chan! A beach date, this time with more exploration about her past. Not sure what the title will be though.
