Chapter 2

Suddenly, Remus heard loud, thundering footsteps, and turned to see a large man with a big, hairy, beard, walking towards the students.

"Me, name Hagrid, follow me first years." he said, gesturing to the new students to follow him. He led them to a lake, where lots of boats lay in the shallows of the water.

"About four of yer get in one." he explained, as first years filed into the boats. Remus got into one and a couple of other kids he didn't know came in as well.

As the boats moved towards the school, the kids stared at the amazing night sky and how the school looked even more amazing than they had imagined.

Soon, all boats hit the shore, and Remus slipped out of his. Hagrid led the kids into the giant castle, everyone went silent to admire how it looked once they got it.

"Minerva, ye can take it from ere." Hagrid nodded to a tall woman, who wore a robe, spectacles that were propped up on her nose, and a hat that slightly drooped down towards the top.

"Welcome to Hogwarts." she began, she looked strict and Remus gulped, trying not to show his apprehension. "In a moment you will each be sorted into your houses. There are four houses that you can get sorted into. Grifindor, the house of the brave and courageous. Hufflepuff, the house of loyalty and hard work. Ravenclaw, the house of Intelligence, and wit, and finally, Slitherin, the house of the cunning and ambitious."

Everyone nodded or murmured to show they had understood, and then "Minerva" fixed her spectacles, and led the students into a large room. It was very grand, there were four long tables where students were sitting, then at the front there was a table for the teachers and then a stool where an old hat was sitting.

"I will place this hat on your head," said the woman, gesturing towards the worn down hat, "and it will tell you your house."

Remus felt kind of suspicious at the thought that an old, worn down hat would tell him what house he would be placed in. But he went along with it for the sake of knowing what house he would be sorted in.

"First we have, Kingsley Shacklebolt." said the teacher and Kingsley stood up shouldering his way through the students with pride and determination, once he sat on the stool he waved to Remus, Remus just slightly nodded.

"Ravenclaw!" the hat announced after a few brief seconds. Kingsley hurried over to the Ravenclaw table, people high fiving him as he looked for a good seat.

"Next we have James Potter."

"James" was a rather tall boy with glasses, he walked over to the school, excitement clearly shining in his eyes.

"Gryffindor!" the hat shouted at once and his eyes shone with happiness and pride.

The next few people were sorted into Hufflepuff, then there were one or two slytherins, and one more Gryffindor in the mix.

"Sirius Black!"

A tallish boy with black hair that rested on his shoulders made his way to the stool, he was pale faced and it was evident that he was nervous.

He sat down, looking up as the hat was placed on his head. After a while the hat finally had made its decision.

"Gryffindor!" It hollered and Sirius's face went from nervousness, to great shock and a little bit of anger. Sirius stood up, and barged over to the Gryffindor table.

After quite a bit more gryffindors and Ravenclaws, Remus's name was called. He walked warily up to the stool, gulping as the hat was placed on his head.

"I don't care what house I'm in, I just need a house, any house…" Remus whispered to himself, closing his eyes tight, waiting for a response.

"I've never sorted your kind before…" The sorting hat told him, and Remus winced at the word,

"Kind."

"Don't worry I won't tell." The sorting hat reassured Remus and he felt his chest lighten.

"You're smart I see… Yes… Maybe Ravenclaw?" The sorting hat observed. "But wait, there's bravery in there too, you came here despite your condition… Better be, Grifindoor!"

The Gryffindor table was clapping, and Remus noticed Kingsley clapping from his place at the Ravenclaw table. Remus walked over to the Gryfindor table, hardly able to speak.

After a few more people, Dumbledoor, the headmaster, made a speech, and he concluded it with, "let the feast begin!" After that all sorts of foods appeared on each table. Anything you could ever want was spread across the tables. There was juicy steak, baked potatoes with the perfect seasoning, bagels with the creamiest cream cheese, and the sweetest, most delicious chocolate you would ever taste.

Remus didn't know where to begin. It all looked so good. He took a plate and began helping himself to a little bit of everything.

The chatter of the room slowly got quieter as people were beginning to redirect their attention to the food that they were eating.

After the main meal which left Remus feeling fuller than he ever had in his life, came the desserts. The table was now covered in cakes of all kinds, ice cream with lots of different toppings, and things like pumpkin pasties and other wizard desserts.

After most of the desserts were finished, some older looking students stood up and looked at Dumbledore as if expecting directions.

"All students please follow their prefects to their common room please." Dumbledore announced and everyone stood up, pushing through the crowd until they found the prefect of their house.

A tall boy with a gryffindor robe was ushering the Gryfindor first years to him, so Remus followed the crowd.

Soon, the perfect began climbing a staircase, and the students quickly filed behind him like ducklings following their mother.

"Careful now, the staircases tend to move," the Perfect warned, blocking the students from moving.

Remus stared in shock and awe, he'd never seen anything like this, and he knew there'd be more surprises when he heard a painting talk. He turned his head, his jaw fell, but he quickly closed his mouth so no one would see him gaping like that. It was a total shock that the paintings could talk, let alone move!

"Ah yes! The paintings," The perfect note and everyone looked towards them, clearly in shock. "You're in a wizarding school and that is even shocking," he laughed and continued leading the students onward.

He led them to a place with lots of rooms, and he began directing people to their dorms.

"Um Remus, where's Remus? The prefect said scanning the jumble of students before him, Remus walked forward shyly. "Ah, there you are," he said, placing a hand on Remus's shoulder, "That's your room my friend."

Remus thanked him and walked into my room, and there were three other boys, one of them greeted him with a curt nod.

So these are my dorm mates, he thought…

The first of the boys was pretty tall, he had jet black hair that sat atop his shoulders, and he had gray eyes that were somber.

The second of the boys had dark brown hair that was average length. He had hazel eyes that were behind circular shaped glasses. He had a look of pride on his face and his chest was puffed out.

The last of the boys was rather short with dirty blonde hair, he was plump with big teeth in the front.

Remus gave a curt nod to them and set his luggage down on one of the beds, and he began rummaging through it for some night wear.

"By the way, I'm James," said the boy with glasses, and Remus gave him a grateful look, he didn't want to be the one to start the introduction.

"And that's Sirius," he said nodding to the black haired boy who nodded soberly before busying himself with his belongings.

"And that-" James said gesturing to the last boy, "that is, actually I don't even know who that is oh well."

Remus laughed a bit and noticed that the boy was flushing red a bit,

"My name is Peter," he said, still a bit red in the face.

Remus took his nightwear and went into the bathroom to change, he did it as quickly as he could because he hated looking at the horrid scar that was all over his body, it made him queasy.

Once finished, he settled in his bed, closing up all of the curtains that surrounded it. I'm going to have a good year at Hogwarts, Remus thought to himself, but for some reason he was starting to have doubts…
