(Sonic and the Secret Rings- The Lost Prologue)
Kai opened his eyes to yet again be surrounded by purple mist and just like before it started to morph and form into a person, The Raven Queen towered over Kai, looking at him a calm yet serious face, Kai routinely got on one knee and bowed, "My queen", he said with his usual obedient tone, " You may rise Kai", The Raven Queen said, Kai raised himself up, patiently awaiting her command causing him to feel a little tense, a feeling he was not at all used to, " Kai, I see that you have found Molly", she said with a small smile, "Indeed my queen", kai responded, " Good", The Raven Queen says, her soft tone putting Kai at ease," What do you think of her?", she questions him catching him off guard, Kai was peculiar to know why she would ask him this as he thought it was of little importance what he thought of Molly as long as his job was complete and his goddess was pleased," May I ask why my queen", he asked, " You're going to be spending a lot of time with this girl Kai along with her family and those who are well acquitted with them", The Raven Queen says as Kai listens, taking in her words, " It is your job to protect her Kai but you must also understand her", she says " Locking her in her home not only affects her but her family too Kai, what if her family get caught in the crossfire within that house?", she says sternly like a mother reprimanding her child, Kai looked down with shame, the memory of his coldness and lack of sympathy towards the McGee's were brought to the front of his mind.
The Raven Queen sighed as she moved closer to Kai, placing her hand under his chin and gently lifted his face to meet hers, "Kai, you want to know what the most important part of my role as goddess", she says her voice becoming soft again, " When souls cross over, it my job to take in the life that they previously had", she says as she summon a small blue flame within her hands, it moved and jittered with life making Kai stare at it intensely, " Their experiences, their emotions, their choices, it all helps me understand who they are, for once you know someone, you can truly help them", she concludes, letting the blue flame float upwards into the mist, " Do you understand Kai,?", The Raven Queen spoke as Kai returned to look at her," Yes, my queen", he said making the goddess slightly pull away from him.

" So I'll ask again, what do you think of Molly?", she says making Kai ponder an appropriate response, " She's a very interesting person", Kai said " She was nice to me despite my coldness or my rudeness", Kai says putting his hand through his hair remembering his interactions, " She also lives with this odd looking ghost which who dared slander your name but I delt with it anyways she is very friendly, to a very stupid degree, I mean she offered to be my friend the moment we meet, which is by far the dumbest thing I've heard in my...", Kai suddenly stop himself rambling as he saw The Raven Queen smiling at him, upon seeing this he quickly composed himself.

"Yeah, so like I said she's interesting", Kai said making The Raven Queen chuckle a bit, " Well with that said, you mind telling me what else you've discovered?", she says " Yes my queen, I have discovered that ghost are indeed after her as I encountered one upon meeting Molly", he say bringing back the seriousness into the conversation, " However I still don't know why theses ghosts want her so much", Kai said making both him and The Raven Queen ponder for possible answers, " Did this ghost happen to say anything that would help", The Raven Queen asked, Kai thought back to his fight with the ghost, thinking of anything that would help, suddenly he remembered something," Yes he did, he brought up about a pure soul and how bad he needed it", Kai answered, The Raven Queen thought about what Kai said, "Hmm... a pure soul, that not something I've heard of, for no soul is truly pure by nature", she says, Kai, " Well then we're still at square one then", He says with disappointment.
The Raven Queen notice this and put a hand on Kai's shoulder," Fear not Kai, even the smallest bit of info is something", she says lifting Kai spirits up, suddenly a loud but muffled voice was heard, Kai looked around thinking it was an enemy, " It appears it time for you to wake up, Kai", The Raven Queen said as Kai grumbled at the voice getting louder," Remember my words Kai", she said as the mist started to disappear, " Yes my queen", he said as the voice grew louder, to an ear shattering degree, making Kai cover his ears and close his eyes from the sheer force of sound.

Kai still heard a voice only now it wasn't as loud however it was closer and more clearly, words sounding familiar like it was his name," Kai, Kai, KAI!", the voice said, Kai slowly opened his eyes with a groan, however he was in for a surprise as when he opened the Molly face was right in front of him, Kai jumped back with a yell, hitting his head on Molly's desk that sat behind, Kai groaned as he held his head, dealing with the pain on it," Do you wake everyone like that ?", Kai groaned, still clutching his head, " You get used to it", Scratch said as he floated out of his dollhouse home groggily, " Oh sorry Kai", Molly said, Kai was about to say something to show his displeasure but the recent words of The Raven Queen came to mind causing him to withdraw his statement, Kai sighed, the act of being understanding towards others while not something that he hadn't heard of before, it was something that he rarely used as he felt like he had no need with his kind of work, for ghosts and necromancers alike would never give him a chance," It fine Molly", Kai said as he got up and stretched, his body creaking with every muscle.

" So, what reason did you wake me up for ?", Kai said as he continued stretching, " Me and Darryl have school today", Molly said as she was preparing her things" Oh right, I forgot about that", Kai said finishing his stretches, " Personal, I don't care for such things anymore but hey you do you, as long as I can see you and reach before any potential ghost attacks of course", Kai said as he turned to face Molly, " How can you not care about school, a place where you can learn, grow, make friends and start to figure who you are", She said with a smile as the light from the window shined on her like a spotlight, Kai and Scratch briefly looked at each other with similar deadpanned looks and then at Molly, " Molly school isn't exactly the most exciting place in the world", Scratch said, " Then how come you get excited when I mentioned certain food days?", Molly questioned, " Hey that is the exception", Scratch retorted, "How?" she said, " Because Taco Tuesday is special Molly, it importance in the school life is very high without it school is ultimately pointless", Scratch said proudly as he was giving a speech, Kai just rolled his eyes leaving Scratch to his delusions as he opened the attic hatch to go get ready for the day.
As Kai finished up in the bathroom, he thought about his time in when he used to go to school, despite being of similar age to Molly he felt like his school days were far behind him, however he quickly dashed those thoughts to the back of his mind not wanting to reminisce and more importantly focus on protecting Molly today, with that being said Kai went downstairs.
When he got there he saw Molly's dad making breakfast specifically toast, Pete turned and saw Kai coming, " Morning Kai" Pete said as he was started to put the toast on the table," Good morning Mr McGee", Kai said as he bowed, Pete was surprised by this, " Kai there's no need to bow, while you're here you are a valued guest", He said as Kai straighten himself, before Kai could say anything the rest of the McGees came down, Molly, Scratch and Darryl went to the table to eat, while Sharon gave her husband a good morning kiss, as they went on to eat their breakfast.

Kai saw this and his memories yet again resurfaced as he watch the McGee's conversation with each other, thoughts of his own family flickered in his mind another set of memories he buried away, while talking to Scratch, Molly noticed Kai lost in thought, " Hey Kai, you okay?", as she this the McGee's stop there conversations and turned to face the boy, as Kai stop thinking about his past, he saw the McGee's looking at him, " Huh.. a. yes, I'm just going over the plan for today, speaking of, when you guys are done meet me in the living room", he said as he quickly walked off, the others shrugged but Molly stared on with concern for a bit as sense Kai was hiding something.

As the McGee's finished their breakfast and gathered their things, they meet Kai waiting by the door folding his arms, " You ready?", Kai said as he looked at Molly as she nodded, " Alright, I'll explain what we're going to do to ensure maximum security", Kai said as he walked slightly away from the others, " Rapture, come fourth", Kai said followed by a small explosion of black smoke appearing on and around Kai's head, everyone else started coughing and waving the smoke away, " So his great security plan was to blow himself up?, not much of a plan if you ask me", Scratch said as the smoke cleared resulting in a grumble from Kai.
As the smoke cleared, the McGee's noticed a small figure on Kai's head, to everyone surprise it was a small raven sitting comfortably, everyone responded with a resounding "Huh?", minus Molly who's eyes were wide with amazement at the adorable bird in front of them, " This is Rapture, my personal raven curtesy of The Raven Queen", he said as he put out his hand for Rapture to sit on, " Oh my gosh he so cute!", Molly said, making Rapture give a cute squawk in return, " He will be my eyes on you while I scout out your school for any signs of ghosts activity", Kai says as Rapture flew from his hand onto Molly's head, " The moment anything is wrong I'll immediately warp to his location, so rest assured, I won't let any ghost harm Molly", he said looking towards her parents, " Thank you, Kai", Sharon said, Kai nodded " But wait the school doesn't allow animals inside", Darryl said making everyone pause for a bit, " I can hide him in my backpack", Molly said, " That would work", Kai said, everyone nodded in agreement even Rapture, " Alright with that being said, I'm going to go on ahead, get a head start, Rapture I trust you to do your job", Kai said with Rapture giving a salute with his wing, Kai then opened the door and one last look towards everyone before dissipating into a flock of ravens and flying into the sky.
The McGee's stood processing what just happened, eventually they snapped out of it and they started to get ready, all the while Molly with Rapture now being held in her hands pondered what the day would bring for her and if she will be able to go through it in one piece.
