A young eight year old, bird headed boy, cries as he holds an Endeavor doll tightly in his arms with some small blue feathers in his hands, his mother hugging him tightly. "I'm sorry, Mr and Mrs Tokoyami. This was all I could find of Frankenstein, Shrinky Dink, and her young daughter, Reika." Mt. Lady, an intern that was working for Mr. Tokoyami's best friend since early elementary school and Pro Hero, Shrinky Dink, said sadly as she saw the young Fumikage crying. She hands Mr Tokoyami a piece of Shrinky Dink's hero costume. A Silver wing that was the centerpiece to her costume, and a piece of patchwork from Frankenstein's costume with Shrinky Dink's agency logo. "We are still trying to find Frankenstein. She won't get away with what she has done." She said.
A small, young dark shadow comes out growling. "Why would Aunt Frankenstein do this to Aunt Shrinky and Rei Rei?! Why would she kill her mentor and our sister?!" He said, trying to hold back his tears, shaking in anger.
"We don't know." She said as she nodded her head no.
Tokoyami, now sixteen, comes back to reality as he sees Koda looking at him with worry in his eyes. It's been seven years since that night. Two days before the start of a new school year at U.A. High school. "Are you okay, Tokoyami? You've been staring at that Silver Wing pendant for a long time." Koda asked in a worried tone. Tokoyami and his friends; Koda, Shoji, Todoroki, Sato, and Midoriya, were getting the last of their school supplies for their second year.
"Yes. I am alright, Koda. I was just reminded of something that happened in my past." He said.
"Are you going to buy one too, Tokoyami? Today is the seven year anniversary of Shrinky Dink's death. All of the proceeds will go to building a statue in her honor at the old supermarket where she died." Midoriya said as he gave the cashier the correct amount of money that the pendant was priced at.
He looked down at the silver pendant on a black chain and smiled. "You know, I think I will." He said. He purchased the pendant in his hand and placed it around his neck.
While shopping for the rest of the supplies, he listens to Midoriya and Todoroki telling them about two new students that will be joining their classes, while Aoyama and Mineta would switch to class 2-B. "One is a foreign exchange student, a girl from the United States that's able to create illusions when she sings, but the other one is a total mystery." Midoriya explained.
"I heard that the new girl has blue wings with a quirk similar to Hawks' but she's able to summon eyes on her feathers." Sato said.
'Blue wings? Is she related to Reika in some way?' Tokoyami thought.
"I haven't seen any of those feathers around the school lately. I wanna bet that this mystery new girl…Is a bird like Tokoyami." Todoroki said as he looked down in thought.
"I am not a bird, Todoroki. Maybe someone finally caught what was wandering around the school last year." He said as he turned to look at his friends.
"There have been less sightings of black feathers around the school. But something felt off about the way those feathers looked and felt. Almost as if they were painted or dyed to make them look black." Midoriya said as he looked down in thought.
This got Tokoyami's attention. "What do you mean by that, Midoriya?" He asked.
"What I mean is, I think that one of the custodians we had last year could have been hiding from something." He said.
"How do you know if the feathers were from a custodian? The only Custodians that are there are Spik n Span, the cleaning heroes and their sidekicks, Toiletry, and Washer." Shoji asked.
"She was a custodian that was around our age with black, unkempt wings and golden blond wavy hair, similar to Hawks' color. I only saw her once when I was leaving the cafeteria, but she was helping Spik n Span clean up after a fight had gone down." He explained as he brought out one of his notebooks. He showed the other boys a drawing of what this young custodian looked like. A girl with long wavy blond hair with unkempt black wings, golden eyes, and a pair of green, reptile scale patterned glasses sat neatly on her nose.
Dark Shadow came out to take a look at the drawing. "Damn. If Reika were alive, they could have been twins, or her doppelganger. Her eyes are the exact same as hers was." He said in a quiet tone.
"But she's no longer with us, Dark Shadow. She's been dead for seven long years." He said in a saddened tone.
"Who's Reika?" Koda asked.
"You've never talked about your past with us before, Tokoyami." Todoroki said.
"That's because he's afraid of getting a panic attack if he told you anything about it." Dark Shadow said. "All we can tell you is that Reika was our best friend, She was like a sister to us. but she died in the attack that resulted in Aunt Shrinky's death. And Aunt Frankenstein's betrayal." He said before he disappeared back into Tokoyami. Their eyes widened.
Two days later it was finally the first day of their second year at U.A. High. Mr Aizawa had told the students that the two new students will be joining them tomorrow. He explained to them about the foreign exchange student. "Miss Mayson is very self conscious about her appearance. She is a feline-type heteromorph but keeps her ears and tail hidden from public view. She has some emotional trauma due to her father being killed just before she arrived in Japan. She also has a new form of autism in which ties into her quirk beginning to show signs of sentience. Should they appear on their own, inform either me or any of the other teachers here immediately. Understand?" He explained to the class.
"Yes sir." Everyone said at the same time.
"As for the other new girl. You will have to wait until she arrives tomorrow. For now, let us start with the lecture." He said before turning to the board behind him. Morning classes began as they did the year before. After lunch, everyone headed back to class. As they sat in their seats they noticed Mr Aizawa reading a note. Once the bell had rung he looked up from the note. "Tokoyami, Principle Nezu has offered for you to go to his office during this lesson, as it pertains to the attack on the supermarket seven years ago." He explained calmly but in a saddened tone.
He nods his head and begins to stand up to leave the classroom. He stops in his tracks as he hears Iida speak. "You mean the attack where Frankenstein betrayed and killed Shrinky Dink by blowing up the supermarket seven years ago? I heard that no one has yet to find Frankenstein since the attack." Iida explained as he raised his hand and adjusted his glasses.
He feels his heart begin to race beginning to remember the events of the attack. He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, trying to calm himself. "That is because she was always very skilled at stealth. She may have altered her appearance several times with her quirk to stay hidden from the heroes." He said as he grabbed his book and began to walk towards the door.
"Her quirk had always been a secret to the public. The only one that knew about it is long gone now. So how would you know what her quirk is, Bird Boy? Were you somehow close to her civilian form?" Bakugo said, starting to push his buttons. Tokoyami took more deep breaths, trying to calm down, slamming the door behind him as he ran out of the room.
"That is enough Bakugo! NO further questions from you or anyone else about Frankenstein! NO ONE is to speak to Tokoyami about ANY of what transpired seven years ago! Do you understand?!" Aizawa ordered in an angered tone.
"Yes sir!" Everyone replied.
"When he returns I want you ALL to apologize to him." He said before turning around towards the projector screen as a video of the supermarket attack appears on screen. "As you all know, two days ago was the seven year anniversary of the number twelve hero at the time, Shrinky Dink's death. Since Mt. Lady was interning with Shrinky Dink at the time of the attack, The stores are selling pendants with Shrinky Dink's agency logo and all the proceeds will go towards building a statue in memory of her led by Mt Lady and other Heroes that were interning there at the time. She told the news cast what everyone knows now. But she left many major details out. One of these details was that Shrinky Dink adopted a daughter six and a half years prior to the attack. Reika Takami, Hawks' younger sister. Tokoyami knows this girl due to Shrinky Dink and his father being friends. They were also in that attack. This is a video from that day that was never released to the public." He explains as he plays the video.
As the video plays, the class saw a young Mt Lady pulling out a young Tokoyami from the rubble, crying. In his arms he held a young girl around his age with wavy red hair and her blue unkempt wings wrapped around him. "It looks like she protected him from the brunt of the blast." They hear Mr Tokoyami say in the video. They saw a long dark black hand that appeared to have claws, reached down to check the young Tokoyami's injuries. He refused to let Reika go. "Calm down son. I'm not trying to take her away, I just want to check your wounds."
"Fumikage, You have to let her go so that we can take her to a hospital." Mt Lady said as she bent down to where she was eye level to him.
"I won't! I refuse to let her go!" He cried as he held onto her tighter. "I won't leave her!"
They hear his father sigh before putting his hand on his head. "I know how much you care for your sister, but there's nothing we can do for her right now. She needs to go to the hospital where they can fix her, so that she can get better. The quicker you let her go, the quicker she will get better and come home." His father said calmly.
"You are one lucky kid, Fumikage. She risked her life to save you." She said as she placed her index and middle fingers on her neck, feeling for a heartbeat. "It's very faint, but she's alive." She looked towards Tokoyami's father. The video stops there.
"She died seconds after Tokoyami let her go. But what he doesn't know is that they managed to bring her back with the defibrillator, where she was then taken to the hospital for treatment. As for why his parents decided to keep this knowledge secret from him, it is because she is Hawks' little sister that she had to remain hidden from him. But due to these events, he will get panic attacks from time to time. If I hadn't told you this then he never would have. Which is why I stopped Bakugo from egging him on the way I did. I could tell that he was beginning to show signs of an attack when Iida started talking. It was principle Nezu and his parents that gave me the permission to explain all of this to you since Takami will be a new classmate. So starting tomorrow she and Mayson will be joining this class as students, so I expect every last one of you to be on your BEST behavior. I don't want to hear ANYONE talking about Shrinky Dink. If I hear anything about Mayson getting overwhelmed or shutting down. It'll be an automatic week's detention for disobeying. Do I make myself clear?" Aizawa explained calmly.
Everyone responded with a "Yes sir!"
"Tokoyami will be very surprised when he sees that she's alive." Kaminari said.
"Not only that, but she's his mentor's little sister! How did he manage to keep her secret from him during his internships?" Kirishima said.
"It was a hard task for him to do, but he managed to keep her hidden from him. Last year, She was disguised as a custodian per Principle Nezu's request. Attending classes without-…Hardly any of you noticing." He explained.
"So the bird custodian…was Takami all this time." Todoroki said as he looked down in thought. Aizawa just nodded his head.
"And I thought his whole calm, dark, and stoic personality was just a phase. Poor guy." Jiro said.
"Why couldn't he have just told all of this to us himself?" Bakugo asked.
"I'm guessing it is likely that he would have gotten an attack while explaining." Iida said while doing his hand chopping motion.
"That could have been why he was staring at the pendant for such a long time the other day. Who knew he was in that attack." Midoriya said.
"Takami must be someone really special to him if he wasn't wanting to let her go so easily. It'll be a lot for him to take in once he finds out that she's not only alive, but joining our class as well." Kaminari said.
"Alright class. Calm down. I'm sure it will be, but now's the time to get back to the lesson." Mr Aizawa said.
When Tokoyami got to Principal Nezu's office door. He took one last deep breath, and opened the door. When he opened the door, he saw his father standing on the left side of Nezu's desk with his arms crossed. Hawks sat on the right side of the desk. On each side of Nezu, stood two fox heteromorph children, about the age of seven. Their eyes lit up when he entered the room. "He's here! He's here!" They both said at the same time.
"What are you two doing here? The two of you should be in school." He asked.
The twins looked at each other and giggled before running to another room. "Have a seat, Fumikage." His father ordered.
"What's going on, father?" He asked as he looked at his father with a look of confusion and suspicion.
"Trust me kid. You're gonna want to sit down. What we are about to show you will be the truth." Hawks said in a calm but sad tone.
He looked at his father and mentor in confusion before he finally sat down. "What do you mean by that?" He asked.
"As you know. The seven year anniversary of your aunt Serena's and Reika's deaths has just come to pass." His father began to explain.
"I am well aware of that, father." He said as he glared at him.
"There is more to the story than you know. Some in which I have locked away, deep in your mind. Once I unlock it, you will better understand why I locked it away." His father said.
"You told me once that if Reika hadn't protected you with her wings, then you would have died alongside her. But she wasn't dead when Mt Lady pulled the two of you out of the rubble. She was alive, but barely." Hawks explained.
Tokoyami's eyes widened. "N-no. That-That's Impossible!" He said in shock as he stood up. "She wasn't breathing when I came to! She was dead when I had to let go!" Tears start to form in his eyes and fall down on the sides of his face. "She's gone now and that damned walking Halloween decorated corpse is the one that killed them both!" He cried. "You may say that she was still alive then, that doesn't change the fact that she is forever gone now. And she's never coming back." He said calmly as he started to calm down.
"You're right. The adorable little Reika you knew and loved is no more, but there's an older, more beautiful Reika that's just dying to see you again." Hawks said.
"And starting tomorrow, she will be joining your class along with her foreign exchange friend, Keralynn Mayson." Principal Nezu said as he smiled.
Just then they hear the door to the room the twins ran into open. "Ow ow ow ow! Reika, you're hurting my ear!" They hear a female's voice in English say.
"I told you to not let your tail dip into the paint but did ya listen to me? Nooo. And now your tail is not only grey, but also black too. Now we gotta go and get your tail cleaned up as well as the twin's hands." His eyes widen and his heart skip a beat when he hears an older, yet familiar voice that he hasn't heard in seven years.
"Speak of the baby bird and she shall appear. Great timing baby blue. There's someone here I've been dying to introduce you to." Hawks said as he smiled.
"Who is it, Keigo. As far as I know, I've already met all of your sidekicks." She asks as she lets go of the girl's cat-like ear and puts the twins' hands in a bowl of water.
The twins giggle as Tokoyami slowly looks over to see a young woman around his age, wearing a UA custodial uniform with black paint on it. She had bright red hair bunched up in a hair net, meant for long hair, one beautiful blue wing, the other an unfinished painted black. Golden eyes with a pair of green reptilian patterned glasses neatly placed on her nose. He hears Hawks chuckle. "No, he's not a sidekick yet. You know the students of class A, right? You were a part of their classes in secret last year." He explained.
"But I got found out by some of the students. Koda, Midoriya, Bakugo, Jiro, Iida, Yayorouzu…and Mineta." She said, not looking in his direction.
"Do not worry, Miss Takami. Mineta and Aoyama have been transferred to class 2-B. You needn't worry about his advances towards you any more." Principal Nezu said as he smiled. He looks to see Dark Shadow appear and fly towards Reika while her back is turned.
"R-Rei Rei? Is it-. Is it truly you, Rei Rei?" He asks as he floats around till he's in front of her. He gently touches her cheeks before pinching them, pulling on them a little.
"Ow. Yesh yesh, ish me. Shkop puwing on mee fesh." She said. (Yes yes, It's me. Stop pulling on my face.) 'W-wait a minute. If Shadow's here then…t-that must mean-.' She thought as she looked over to see Tokoyami staring at her with wide, tear lined red eyes. Dark Shadow wraps around her a couple of times before hugging her tightly.
"It IS you, Rei Rei." He cried into her neck.
He closes his eyes tightly, looking away from her. "H-h-how is this p-possible? I-I SAW you die! I-I couldn't FEEL you breathing wh-when I he-held you! You-you were already-. Th-This HAS to be another dream!" Tokoyami stuttered as he tried not to let his tears fall. He opened his eyes when he felt a soft hand gently rubbing his forehead. He looks to see that Reika was now mere inches away from him, smiling sadly at him while holding Dark Shadow in one arm.
"Your father locked most of your memories of me from that night, and replaced them with fake memories, per My request. He was afraid you would have gotten panic attacks more often than you would have if those memories of me had stayed. That and they didn't want word getting out to the public that I'm Keigo's biological sister. You have no idea how much I wanted to calm you down when you had that big attack last year. My heart shattered, seeing you in so much pain." She explains to him as she places her forehead to his, gently holding his cheek.
"H-How are you-? Y-You're alive!" He reaches up to touch her face then takes off the hair net, revealing long, wavy red hair that went down to her lower back. "You're not a dream this time. You're back." He smiles as he finally allows his tears to fall.
"Yeah, I've returned from a seven year slumber. And I'm staying for good this time, big brother Fumi." She joked as happy tears formed in her eyes.
"Don't ever leave us again, Rei Rei! Stay by our side forever!" Dark Shadow said, cuddling his face into her neck.
"Don't worry little brother. I'm not going anywhere." She said as she hugged him.
Tokoyami wraps his arms around her, hugging her tightly. One arm lining up between her wings, his hand placed on the back of her head, gently pushing it to his neck. The other below her wings where they connect to her back. "You're finally home." He whispered, resting his head on hers as he silently cried.
'Yeah. I'm home.' She thought to herself, melting into the hug.
