Japan

Rain sits in her chair and says nothing before she does. "Archer, Angel, do you know what happened when the first Kira died?"

Archer and Angel look at each other. Archer decides to speak first. "I'm pretty sure you're going to tell us."

"Yeah, I am, excellent observation, baby brother. When the first Kira died, privacy was basically lost. Cameras were installed at every street corner and intersection. Phones were tapped. And to kick things off, the police became much more sophisticated at tracking down criminals via cyber forensics. This means that everything the original Kira did could not be accomplished today. If we looked up criminals online for no reason, the police would be able to track down the person as soon as possible. That's why we're very iffy when we use our computers because we have to seem as normal as possible. We can't allow ourselves to create a pattern. That's why we try hard not to kill criminals while looking up their names. The good news is that the police can't track us via which channel we watch. Sure, they can see how many people are watching the channel but they can't track a person based on the channel they're watching. That's why most of our criminal kills tend to come from watching news stories."

Archer rolls his eyes. "Yeah, sis, we already know about this."

"I'm just reeducating you. You're never too old to learn something new and as long as Angel and I are around, you'll never be old."

"That's right, I'm always going to be the baby of the bunch. So go on with whatever villainous monologue you have in mind."

Rain nods. "Thank you for acknowledging that my monologue is villainous; thank you very much. As I was saying, if Kira tried to do the same things he did back then, he would be caught in a heartbeat. But our family managed to find a way to get around these cameras and privacy-invading electronic devices. And now, we have a new way to communicate with our followers from overseas without leaving a trace."

Rain turns to her computer and turns it on. She opens up Kira's official social media site and taps her fingers against the desk. "Well then, it looks like my followers are doing most of the work for us already."

"What is your plan?"

"We send a message. A message without actually sending a message." Rain opens her Death Note. "I wrote a lot of names in this book; it's convenient when you have access to criminal records. Do you notice anything about the names?"

Angel steps forward and grabs the notebook. He looks over the names for a few seconds. "Most of them are foreign names."

"Look harder, brother."

Angel narrows his eyes. "Oh."

"Exactly."

Archer takes a peek at the names. "They spell out a message. Yes, I can see the message. Interesting, it looks like good-for-nothing dead people are good for something."

Rain nods. "I couldn't agree more even if you said one plus one is two. We upload this list of names to Kira's social media website, our conscript in England will get the message."

"And the cybercrime guys won't be able to trace how exactly?"

Gintik Hagmay appears out of nowhere. "Rain doesn't directly upload it from her IP address, I fly over to Sakura TV and have our spokesperson upload it for us. I always do it for some sweet caramel apples."

Archer looks over. "I've always wondered that. And the police have no problem?"

"The police are complacent," Rain calirifes. "Besides, catching Kira is illegal in Japan and our spokesperson is just a messenger. That's why cybercrimes, while sophisticated, are used as much when dealing with Kira. This makes our job easier." Rain stands up. She heads into the kitchen, removes her Shinigami father's favorite snack, and tosses it to him. "Father, would you be a dear and take our list of names to our spokesperson?" She dons a pair of latex gloves before pulling out a neatly folded-up piece of paper with the names of the dead people on it. "Please?"

Gintik Hagmay laughs and takes the regular piece of paper before grabbing the apple. "Now how can I resist such a delicious caramelized fruit?"

London

When Henry Brooks got home from work slightly early, he decided to make himself a pack of ramen noodles before taking the bowl with him to the bathroom. He sits down on the toilet seat cover and takes careful spoonfuls of his hot meal. He didn't feel like eating with his wife so he locked the bathroom door and ignored whatever calls his wife was making to him. After sighing heavily and finishing his bowl, he steps out of the bathroom to put the bowl in the sink. Afterward, he retreats into the bathroom and locks himself in after turning off the lights. He sits in the farthest corner of the bathroom and pretends that she's slowly dying of brain cancer to soothe himself. As he is about to fall unconscious, he gets a notification on his phone.

"Oh," he quietly yelps, "Kira has something to say."

He opens up the official Kira app and tunes in to the spokesperson, Sakura Kato.

Kato smiles as she looks at the camera, tugging at her cloak. "Good afternoon, I am Sakura Kato, Kira's handpicked spokesperson, and it is my job to spread the word of Kira safely and responsibly. Kira wishes to make a statement and I am here to read from it." She clears her throat before reading from a folded piece of paper. "I am Kira. My message goes out to Hydra. Hydra, I am warning you one last time: back down and ensure you never come after me again. If you choose to wage war, wage war with someone else. I am willing to let you blow off some steam but will not escalate it. Stop hunting me down and I'll spare you. You and every other Hydra who came before you, who will come after you, and those who ever considered to become Hydra, even for a split second. Ceasefire, stand down, and choose peace. The people I have killed did not choose peace and I wish for their names to become public so the world can understand the consequences of what happens when one does not choose peace." Kato looks to the camera after putting the note down. "The names can be found on Kira's official social media website and he encourages people from all over the world to take a look at these names."

With nothing better to do, Brooks heads to the social media site of Kira and reads through the latest post. Yes, there was a list of names and Brooks decided to browse over them for no reason.

Harry Edwards. New Remen. Yale Briar. Otis Oliver. Killigan Sanchez. Yuki Orochimaru. Uri H. Aven. Ethan Brandt. Emily E. Nunez. Charlies H. Oculus. Steven E. Nubbins.

Huh, so these people decided to disobey Kira and choose war over peace. Can't say I blame them when Kira offed them. As his eyes roam over the list, he realizes something. "Wait a minute."

No, he wasn't hallucinating, he was sure of it. There's no reason for him to hallucinate; the doctor said his prescription does not cause hallucinations and he had taken his prescribed pills every day at the right time for the past two years and had no hallucinations. No, this means...

The names weren't just random names but a message written to him specifically. Wait, could it be him? Maybe it wasn't; there are other people out there named Henry Brooks; the world has over eight billion people so he can't be the only Henry Brooks out there. And Kira's spokesperson said that Kira encouraged everyone around the world to read his message.

Oh, maybe it's a false alarm. Maybe it is some other Henry Brooks out there that Kira is trying to reach out to.

Kira's social media site updates daily. Sometimes Kira leaves personal messages, most of the time, he doesn't, but if Kira was leaving this kind of message, then that means he's gearing up for something.

Please, I hope it's me. My disease is terminal, and my wife and I are unhappy; please, please let it be me.

He decides to turn off his phone and go to bed earlier. Hopefully, in the morning, he will get some answers and see if Kira was picking him or some other Henry Brooks. He doesn't bother waiting for hsi wife before he shuts off the lights and drifts off to sleep. As he drifts off to sleep, he prays to the living god of justice and death that Kira chose him and that it wasn't a coincidence. Yes, he hoped he chose. Yes, he hoped he was chosen.

Kira, please pick me. I'm going to die so why not go out doing one good deed in my life before I pass? Please, let me be chosen, let me be the Messiah!

November 28th

Waking up early in the morning thanks to the alarm he had set years ago, he runs out of bed and locks himself in the bathroom. The bathroom, his one and only sanctuary in this entire building, the one and only place he could get some goddamn privacy. Yes, it will do and he will not get up his man cave, no matter what. He scrolls through his phones and his arteries nearly leap out of his stomach. Yes, yes, yes, Kira left him a message. A message just for him.

It was an extension of the list of names from the previous night so they continued a message.

Simon E. Ryder. Gina E. Anderson. Nathan Tyr. Roman O. Yale. Arthur Longwood. Michael A. Remus. Indra N. Ecko-Sans.

"Yes, that's me. That is me," he whispers crazily to himself. "I was chosen. Yes, I was part of that branch. I was a vet. No, I am a vet. Please, please, give me orders, my god. My god of justice, give me orders. Free me from my endless torture, give me orders, make me your Messiah!"

Hannah Y. Draco. Rice Alfonso. Reed E. Fletcher. Umi S. Eckhardt-Santos. Tommy O'Young. Lyle I. Smith. Teagan E. Nuter. Tretch Odinson. Megumi Etadori.

Yyatt O. Uriah. Woodsman I. Larson-Lars. Becca E. Cummings. Omar M. Elbert. Hugo Y. Dexter. Rodney Ai.

Brooks gasps, nodding aggressively. "Yes, yes, yes, yes." He wipes the tears from his eyes as if he were experiencing a dream come true. "Yes. Thank you, my god. Thank you so much. I have been of service to my country and now, it is time for me to be of service to my god. I will not let you down. Yes, I will become Hydra. I shall send a message back. But how?" He strokes his chin. "Ah, I know how."

In Japan

Rain scrolls through the social media site and pauses upon seeing a reply to the list of names. She leans back in her chair, blinking a few times before playing with a pen in her hand. She rotates in her chair and addresses her two brothers. "Guys, it looks like we have a hold on one of our conscripts."

ArchAngel steps forward to get a look at the message. It was a list of names.

'Kira, thank you for all your hard work. Can you kill these criminals next: Yorgi E. Samuels. Mia Yates. Lorenzo O. Robert-Delmar. Indiana Wilcox. Ill Langar-Lightheart. Siri E. Rover. Vaine Egg.

Archer and Angel look at each other and smile.

Archer speaks first and asks, "So, this is going according to plan, right?"

Rain nods. "It is, so far."

"And... the innocent people?" Angel asks.

"Not innocent right now." Rain continues to twirl the pen in her hand. "I wish I could see the look on the British government's face when they see their plan for Hydra backfire." She stands and addresses her brother. "Hydra might be an identity, but we decide who uses that identity." She makes a fist. "Because of me, we... control... Hydra."
