Harry took a shower, shaved, and put on a button-down shirt and a pair of new, nice jeans. Astoria hadn't mentioned dinner as part of their date, so he nibbled on some fruit his mother had bought for Daphne. He preferred not to have dinner, considering it would involve sitting and talking—lying—about his relationship with Astoria for an extended period.
It would still be a lie. The whole thing was a complete farce, but he was willing to play along if it would help his younger sister regain her lost social status.
Daphne was downstairs when Harry walked into the kitchen. She smiled as if she had just smelled something rotten and pointed at him.
"You look nice, Harryy-kun." She walked over and fixed one of the buttons on his shirt, then moved her hands up to adjust his collar. "Got a date or something?"
"No," he replied a bit too quickly. "I'm... meeting an old friend from Hogwarts for a drink."
"Tell me you're not planning to ride your bike home afterward," Bellatrix called from the kitchen.
"I promise I'll call for a ride if I have more than one drink," he said.
"Thanks, honey," Bellatrix said. "Please."
As he bit into an apple, he received a text from Astoria.
Pick me up at the end of the block, near the house with the metal fence.
Sighing, Harry wondered if giving in to Astoria's request might have been a mistake. He waited until 6:30 before replying to Astoria, letting her know he'd be there in a few minutes. After a quick goodbye to his mom and Daphne, he set off. It was dark, but he easily recognized Astoria, who started walking toward him as he approached.
She looked incredible. His younger sister had transformed into a teenage beauty. She was wearing a black dress with a floral print and a white cardigan that accentuated her modest bust and petite frame. Her red hair hung loosely around her shoulders, and her makeup was expertly applied to highlight her natural beauty and freckles.
"Astoria," he murmured, getting off his bike to hug her as she came closer. "Wow."
"Do you think it's okay?" She blushed and did a twirl. "It's been a while since I last dressed up."
"It's more than okay, Astoria," he said. "It's..." Amazing. Sexy. Hot in a way that makes me imagine all the moves it would take to unwrap you and strip you down naked. "...perfect."
Astoria's smile was genuine and dazzling. Harry got back on his bike, his heart pounding as his sister's arms and body pressed against him from behind. He shifted gears and headed to the theater with plenty of time to spare.
Ginny and Trevor were already waiting outside the cinema, leaning against a lamppost at the edge of the sidewalk and bantering playfully. Trevor was tall and broad-shouldered, though not conventionally handsome. Ginny had dressed up and looked like a typical teenager on a date, blonde and pretty.
Harry parked his bike and dismounted. Astoria was taking her helmet off, clearly worried about messing up her hair. Harry smiled at her, more like a brother than a pretend boyfriend.
"You still look good," he said. "Don't worry."
"I'm so nervous," she murmured.
"Hey, you're supposed to be on a date with me, not Ginny," he said. "Come on."
Astoria giggled and took his hand. Ginny and Trevor walked over to them with friendly and curious expressions. Harry noticed and felt slightly uneasy about the way Trevor's eyes scanned Astoria's figure as they approached.
"Astoria!" Ginny exclaimed. "I'm so glad you made it. I assume this is your new boyfriend?"
"Harry," Harry said. "Nice to meet you."
"Harry, this is Trevor," said Ginny. "Trevor, Harry."
Trevor nodded in greeting. Ginny and Astoria gave each other a quick hug, the blonde leaning in to whisper something out of earshot. Astoria giggled and nodded, blushing. Harry and Trevor watched awkwardly, sharing a look that silently questioned if they had any idea what their partners were planning.
"We're going to watch Lost Cause, that new horror movie," said Ginny. "You two aren't easily scared, are you?"
"Of course not!" replied Astoria.
Harry nodded, but he was fully aware that scary movies had always terrified his younger sister, not just when she was a child but also in her teenage years.
"Are you sure, Astoria?" he asked.
"I'm fine," she answered.
"I've been really wanting to see this movie," said Trevor. "It got bad reviews, but who cares, right? The trailer looked awesome."
"You're such a boy," whispered Ginny. "Sorry, honey," said Trevor.
Harry found himself somewhere between liking and disliking Astoria's friend and her boyfriend, but that wasn't why he was there. "So, we'll get the popcorn and sodas. You prepare the snacks and have fun."
He took Astoria's hand, finding it strangely easy to slip into the role of her boyfriend. He cared about her at least as much as any boyfriend would. He wanted her to have a good time. She was smiling, and he felt like he was on the right track.
They entered the theater and paid for the tickets. Harry stood in line for snacks next to Trevor. He watched Astoria laugh with Ginny; they looked like true friends. It felt completely different from seeing her quiet side at home or the way she guarded herself and shut down in response to bullying at school.
"We'll take our seats," said Astoria. "We'll aim for the middle row. Will you come find us?"
"Of course," said Harry.
She rushed forward and kissed him on the lips. Harry felt a wave of warmth wash over him as he watched her hurry after Ginny.
"She's got a nice ass." Trevor whistled, jabbing his index finger into the mostly closed fingers of his other hand. "Have you two, you know, done it yet?"
"Spencer," said Harry. "That's none of your business."
"Trevor."
"Whatever."
