One Simple World
Chapter 9: Simply Shattered
Angel's Point of View:
Sans and I hurried to get the rest of the towns' people to the entrance to Waterfall. Getting them throughthe cavern entrance, guards rushed out through the droves of people that were able to escape with their lives. Bells were ringing along with alarms everywhere. Voices were loud as people moved so quickly.
"Hurry everyone! Evacuate! We have a safe location over in Hotland! We're evacuating both cities to be safe!"
Both cities? What did they hear? What did they discover?
I looked to Sans as we hurried into the crowd. We held hands tightly as we moved through the tunnels. We had to make sure all the peoplemade it before Sans could teleport us to the king. But once that was done, we had to go to Asgore as fast as possible.
"Sans! Hold it, bone head!"
Oh crap... this wasn't going to go well...
"Shit..."
Sans and I both knew what this meant if she found me... and I wasn't covered or protected from view.
Out of the crowd came the head of the royal guard. The only woman in the royal guard, and the strongest woman I knew in the underground: Undyne von Undying.
The woman was dressed in her black armor, only her head visible as her fiery hair cascaded over her shoulder. Her single golden eye glowed in her urgency to help the people evacuate. Her eye went first to Sans to look him over, sighing at his un-damaged appearance. Granted, the second she got done looking him over, she noticed his hand in mine, and then her eye trailed to me.
It took a solid ten seconds for her to look me over and then react. She looked at my shape, my figure, my appearance... It took her all that time to figure out that I was a human. The second her single eye narrowed and she was about to snap at us, Sans dove in front of me.
"Don't."
The command was there. It was sharp, and very uncharacteristicof Sans. At least, not for this time linewhere we'd barely known each other for a couple weeks. The Sans that apparentlyI knew in the other timeline was so close to me, he would have...
I couldn't finish that thought. I honestly couldn't.
Undyne narrowed her eyes and loomed over him. "Sans-"
"No."
The two of them stared at each other as the seconds passed, not a singleone of them let up in all of this.
"Captain!"
Coming in from the entrance of the tunnel to Snowdin behind us, I heard another familiar voice that I'd been a while since I'd last heard. Turning to look at the new person, he was covered in red armor. I recognized that male anywhere as Vinnie, the second in command of the guard. He was one of the first royal guardsmen that I'd met early on in my... past life? Other life?
It was still rather confusing...
"Sans... what the fuck is wrong with you?!"
The wordshurt coming out of Vinnie's mouth the second he shouted it allowed. Both he and Undyne raced to grab onto me, but Sans reacted faster to stand before me.
"Don't fuckin' touch 'er!" Sans protected me with his body standing firmly before me. His socket began to glow such a bright blue, and his appendagesinstantly took that color as well. "If ya kill 'er, yer gonna kill me too. Our souls merged. So back the fuck up!"
And that stopped their advance. Both of them looked at us with astonishment, doubt and worry. Giving Sans' hand a squeeze, I leaned my lips toward the side of his skull.
"Sans, we need to show them. Let's pull out their souls to show them."
His sockets widened and he looked back at me wildly. "Angel, the fuck?"
"I know, it's dangerous, but they won't believe us unless we show them. Monster souls are only white, right? And human souls are rich in color?"
Sans paused for a few seconds as well as the others who watched us. I could feel his gaze passing between myself and the two guardsmen who watched us, and a few other bystanders. I was surprised to see Milly and Robert were actuallyamong the crowd. Their gaze was on us as we were singled out compared to those fleeing.
Sans sighedat my words, but he nodded. His gaze still never broke with the guards in front of us as he used a hand to pull forth his soul. It looked no different than the first day we saw each other, it held such a lovely pink color to it, which was so differentcompared to the blinding white.
Undyne and Vinnie paused at the soul, seeing something that looked so different compared to normal. Their shoulders slouched ever so slightly and that was where I stepped up beside Sans. I wasn't about to let him keep protecting me. We had to fight together.
That was when I pulled my own soul as well. My soul who matched Sans' own. Pink in color rather than the deep red it had been before. And of course, the second that the two of them were pulled out to show, there were small webs of magic that could be seen flowing between them.
We were connected. There was no way to separate us.
"What the fuck...?"
"Holy shit..."
"That's so cool!"
The last comment startled us all before Milly was the only one to rush forward from the small crowd that gathered. She actually grabbed onto my waist, hugging me tightly. She looked up at me brightly and tilted her head at me.
"You're a human right?"
I blinked at her slowly but nodded to her. "I am."
"But... you're nice? And you saved us when the building went kaboom?"
"Correct."
"Wait... why...?" She blinked at me slowly. "Why do you look familiar?"
I raced to turn my head back to Sans in surprise. I didn't think anyone else beyond him would recall any memories of our other life. He seemed just as surprised while our souls returned to our chests.
Undyne snarled at that, of course her protective nature would kick in the second "What the hell are you-"
"My daughter's right." Robert's voice carried over CaptainUndyne's as he approached. The bear got up close to Sans and I, standing tall and almost a few feet over our heads. He seemed to stare down at us before his eyes almost seemed to soften. "I recognize her. She... I have memories of her that don't make any sense."
"Yeah!" Milly commented quickly. "I remember her making lots of sweets and giving them to Mrs. Bernie at the Inn! And she helped with the winter fair, and... studying! She would help me, MK and Frisk!"
She remembered my sister! She remembered me!
I couldn't express how happy I was as I stood there with her. Kneeling down beside the girl and yanking her into my arms, I cried at her kindness. Her remembering made me feel so overly content. There were others who would fight for us. I was so thankful.
"T-thank you, Milly... Robert..."
"But... you never saw Mommy... did you?"
I pulled back just enough to look at the little girl's face. She looked at me with those almost glittering honey colored eyes that always drew me in. She was just as beautiful as I could recall from my past life before she died.
"No sweetheart... I haven't. Sans and I... he's been helping me recover from my fall. I was really hurt. And Papyrus was looking for my sister-"
"Frisk?"
"Yeah," I nodded slowly to her. The girl's sharp mind was wonderful, even as it hurt to think that her family was missing. "Papyrus has been looking for her for the last couple weeks, and he always let us know when he ran into someone. The last time I recall he saw your mother... I think it was a week ago when she was shopping at the same time as him with you."
"Oh..." Her eyes trailed down at that. "C-can you look for her?"
I blinked at her softly before looking over worriedly to Sans. The male sighed, his magic pulsing less as we stood there in the entrance while the royal guard was making sure any stragglers of the town were making it through and guarding the entrance. He then turned back with a sigh.
"Maybe... Once everyone makes it out safely n' we talk ta the king."
"He's right Milly, we need to alert King Asgore about what's happening. About me, about the missing people, about that building exploding-"
"How about the fuckin' murderer?"
My eyes widened at the harsh comment that Vinnie gave. All of us glanced over at him sharply. The male had his arms crossed, and those green eyes of his pierced down on me intently.
Sans turned his entire body in the direction of Vinnie the second he did that. "The hell are ya talkin' about?"
"Grillby and his family are dead, Sans." The second in command'sgaze darted over to my skeleton friend, who then wore a much more worried expression at the news. "Ryu and I ate dinner there, but also discussed with him that some people were missing. We left to begin our patrol route when the first explosion went off at his restaurant. We rushed back, and when breaking into the building, we heard him screaming out 'MURDERER' before the second explosion went off."
"The self-destruction of souls..." Eyes fell to me as the comment came from my lips. "Sara told me once... in the other life we had together. It was in order to protect from having any humans taking their souls. They would blow themselves up to cause a final strike, and prevent humans from gathering their powerful souls."
"Are you fucking serious!?" Undyne snarled. "We have a murderer going around?! Then that means-"
"W-was Mommy... and MK... and Will...?"
Poor Milly sobbed when she heard that. Her father was quick to gather her up from my side and hug her closely.
I felt so bad for them. What kind of reality was this? They died in the other one, but Maria, MK and Will weren't spared? Why? Was it just luck? Who was targeting them? Was there another human besides me and my sister?
And then it brought me back to my worried feelings. Frisk was still out there, and so was Papyrus. We hadn't heard from him since that morning before he left for work. Sans was staying back with me to give me an alibi in case anyone started throwing around their weight that they didn't believe me, and we knew the king would squash any ill intent against Sans. Being essentially his right hand man for the last nearly ten years.
Perhaps that wasn't a good thought to have, but... it was necessary...
It was in those haunting moments that I felt a wave of tremendous feeling come over me. I remember that feeling. It only happened to me once in my previous life. When Wingdings tried to merge with me... I could only assume he was doing it again.
But there was another soul I could feel as well. Another broken soul seemed to be along side him. Both of them wanted to merge with me?
Who was that other soul?
"Sans..."
My soft words I told him while staying low on the ground while feelings became more powerful and present. He could feel it lightly through our combined souls. I remember using it a lot in the past. Sans had never felt the feeling of another soul being bound to me other than what I could describe to him. The intense feelings, the dragging out of my soul and the chains that came from it were pure white. My magic becoming revealed.
Before everyone, I saw my vision blur around me. Sans I felt holding onto my shoulder while the cavern around us turned red as my magic responded to this. The souls came in close, and two white chains I felt coming from my chest, the pain echoed as the short white chains reached out for the shattered souls that came toward me. I could barely see the white color of them through hooded eyelids. The chains latched onto the two ghosts.
I sucked in a large breath once they latched on and the feelings settled down. My chains lessened in intensity around us, my vision came into view. The two souls settled into my body and complicatedfeelings stretched over me. Confused, worried, pained, sadness... all of those feelings passed through me before I heard a voice that made me freeze in place.
Sister... I'm sorry... please... take care of my brother... and you have to save Frisk...
The voice that echoed in my head... the actual shock forced me to hunch over as my latest meal came back up. Sick all over the ground, the overwhelming emotions showed as I cried. My sobs echoed in the tunnel toward Waterfall while I was put on display before everyone.
"Angel?!"
Sans was quick to try and help me up. He held onto me tightly, pulling my hair out of the way. He tried to help me stand, but I had no strength in my legs... no will to try...
Papyrus... he was dead...
Sister... you have to listen, and speak to the king and Sans... things are very dire... Papyrus' voice echoed in my mind. Even my sobbing couldn't hush the words I didn't wish to hear. Frisk... something terrible has happened to our beloved friend and family member... a terrible soul... it has taken over her body... She can not control herself as that soul takes over. She begged me to end her suffering, to not kill anyone else...
Asgore is needed Angel, you can not wait in this matter. Wingdings was the one who spoke that time. It was almost a comfort to feel his soul attached to me again as we started in this world once more. It involved his human daughter, Chara. She is the evil soul who has taken over Frisk. For the two of them... have the same soul of determination. And I'm sure you already know what that means.
I unfortunately did know what he meant as he went silent in my mind, allowing me precious seconds to think. It was so much for me to take in... my sister was being forced to murder people against her will, by a person with the same soul as her. Which could only mean one thing...
She was related to the Terians family...
Witch's Note:
And now Angel knows the truth… she knows what happened to Papyrus and what's happened to Frisk… man does that hurt. I feel so bad for her, but she was to find out eventually…
And now we're all caught up, Chara, Frisk, Angel and Sans are all in the same time period together. Now we just have to see what happens as things progress forward. We know what has to happen on Angel's side, she's been begged and demanded to head over to talk to Asgore by Wingdings and Papyrus. Things are turning rather dire.
But it does seem like maybe she and the others have forgotten something in the midst of all the chaos… but what was it?
Oh well, time for reviews!
Thechaosmaster: It is rather sad how the face of who once was an ally and protector to all these people has become a villain, and not even by their own choice or reasons. This is all Chara's doing. And who knows when an end in sight will come. But hopefully another slower chapter for you and the others to give you a break.
But as always, Flowey, where is he? What a good question. It seems he either is not ready to reveal himself, or he's keeping distance perhaps for a reason. But what would be that reason? Why? Of course, that's only speculation…
Shadow8Phantom: You certainly hold a point there on multiple things Shadow. For Sans and Angel to only notice then how quiet the town was, they were constantly busy with searching. Angel also notes how he was her alibi in case anyone questioned where and what she was doing the entire time she was in the underground. It prevented Sans or Angel being caught in a lie, but with the lacking of so many people who used to help them, or the items they once upon a time had, it probably hindered their search.
And of course you caught on to the little argument that Mystic and I were having last time. Something big soon to come that I can't say anything for? I literally can't say much now. I'm honestly afraid if I even try to say a clue, it may change the feel of the story that I've prepared for everyone, and will make it easier to predict. So I can't say anything now. I will hold off on saying anything until we come to the ending of the story.
Let me see… I can talk about it at the end of chapter nineteen. So I'll make a note to mention it then. But for now, I have to staple my damn mouth shut… XD
MysticBoywastaken: Unfortunately, we're still not quite there. So I can neither say yes or no… it will all depend on who is willing to remember…
And now my dear readers, we are almost at the half way point. Next chapter is halfway through… This story is going far too fast for my liking! But it's the nature of the beast. We set it out to be this way and knew it would happen. But do stay tuned for next Saturday as we perhaps find out much more background information that may answer some questions… or present quite a few more…
So with that, I bid you adieu! Love you all and see you next week!
