One Simple World
Chapter 11: Talking Simply of the Happenings
Angel's Point of View:
It was heartbreaking... my soul felt as if it couldn't recover.
This world was nothinglike what I'd experiencedbefore. In the past, Frisk and I stayed deep in the ruins for months with Tori before I met Sans through the door. Carefully building that relationship, earning trust and love before living with him and making so many friends and family.
But this time around... it was so different... Frisk and I didn't stay together in the beginning due to some unforeseencircumstance. And due to that... some evil spirit took hold of her. One that is seeing her to kill people that we've known and loved in the underground. What exactly her goal is, escapes me.
But I had a guess...
This spirit was Chara Terians, or Chara Dreemurr depending on who you asked. She was from the branch family of the Terians. A distant cousin of mine and Frisk's which explains how they were able to merge so easily. It also explains why Frisk's body so easily bent to her will.
But she was also the adopted daughter of the Dreemurr family, once beloved by that of the underground kingdom. She knew the people, of their mannerisms and their kindness. And because she knew them, she knew how to pull their guards down to head in for the kill.
It was a scary thing to think of. And knowing it was Chara, she was most likely looking for another soul to bound herself to pass the barrier. Another chance to battle Silke, the last remaining member of her side branch that remained. One of the last people of her jaded, horrid past that lingers in the back of her mind.
I vaguelyremembered that day when we killed Silke in our last life, where Asriel talked about his sister and her family, or what he'd seen. The horror he recalled of that day he watched his sister kill herself to merge with him, and then lead him to kill her family to prevent others from dying.
I wasn't sure how pure her intentions were. I'd never met Chara before. She was the one difference in this timeline compared to the past. She was the one that never came back, or we never saw the beginning or ending of.
Every second that we didn't know what was going on or that was different, it made me anxious.
It was difficultfor Sans and I as the entire underground was evacuated all the way up to Hotland and the capitol. Hundreds of the underground citizens were homeless or using places of public work to be housed until the king made his decision. Which meant that Sans and I had to speak to Asgore, and we neededto do it fast. We made sure as many of the Snowdin residents evacuated before we were forced on ahead to the castle.
Sans teleported us to the base of the castle with Undyne to give her report as well to him. It had been such a rough ride as we tried to explain enough information for her to rememberparts of the past life like we had.
Undyne was just as hard headed as she always had been... it took a while for her to remember, even other members of the guard rememberedus before she did.
The three of us stood before the castle for only a few moments, looking at the chaos as refugeeswere crowded about the base of the castle. It was a sea of worry as hundreds of people could be seen worriedly moving about. Sans actually ended up on top of someone as he landed in the center of the entrance, knocking them over.
"Whoops, sorry." I could see Sans using his magic quickly to help them back up to their feet. "Gotta dash, I'll pun ya later."
He quickly rushed back over to take my hand before we hurried in. My hood was pulled over my head as he and Undyne led me inside. We couldn't dare to start any commotions in the capitol anymore then there already was. Having a human land right in the center of the town that wasn't brought forward by the king would be absolutelyhorrid. And there wasn't time for the people to slowly get to know me...
It was nothing like last time...
I felt like I was going to be sick...
I hurried forward with Sans' hand in my own while we fast walked the hallways to the main chamber where Asgore would be located. Undyne led the way so that anyone would have darted out of her way while she marched. Many people looked at us as we passed by, whether it be the head of the royal guard charging, and Sans the lazy skeleton holding someone's hand? Before we were together, that would have been something unheard of.
"ASGORE!" Undyne wasted notime as she burst into the throne room. The door slammed open, bouncing off the walls from her strength and anyone who was buzzing around the king froze as Undyne approached, watching carefully as we followed behind her. The king lifted his head from what papers he had in his hand when he saw us.
"Undyne, you've returned. Ah, good, you found Sans-" The king paused when he saw me and his hands wrapped together. That alone caused him to sit upwards and focus more on us. "Sans. Who is that with you? And where is your brother?"
"Asgore." A tone that Sans didn't use often as the pulse of magic left him. The ache was awfulas he stood there. Asgore I know felt it. His eyes narrowed at the seriousness of the situation. Already reading exactly what needed to happen, the king stood up from his throne.
"Everyone, out!"
His bellow rang against the walls and everyone couldn't move fast enough to obey. Knowing that the underground was already in chaos, people ran faster than they most likely were able to. Following their king's orders, the room was vacantwithin less than a minute before the doors slammed shut behind us, and it was so silent, you could hear a pin drop.
The king's full attention was on us then. He rose from his throne, standing taller than I had ever seen him in the past when we spoke. His demeanorwas intimidating, his posture stiff. He was on edge, and rightfully so. Everything wasn't as it was supposed to be.
Undyne looked back over her shoulder atus too. That single eye lingered in a worried glance as she knew just how difficult this was supposed to be the first time around, and this one was to be much harder if he didn't remember any of our past lives.
Without a word, Sans began this private meeting with his soul coming out of his body. The bright pink, magically pulsing part of Sans was put on display for Asgore to see. The king's eyes widened far more so than I thought, a bit comically if I had time to enjoy it. Sadly, I didn't.
Then came my own soul for Asgore to see. Seconds passed for him to see the connection of our souls before him. For him to understand that we were bound together. And once that realization hit Asgore's face while he watched us...
I dropped my hood.
My braid came flying out of the hood once the cloth was no longer hiding me. My eyes focused on the king of the underground people as he stood there, full in his armor. My pale skin for him to see, and for him to notice my human-like appearance. His gaze narrowed at me, anger flashing into his face before he focused once more on the souls that danced between us and the little beads of magic that bound us together. A hot breath escaped the older male as he stood over us, reminding us that this man before us, was still not our friendyet.
Or at least not mine.
"Sans... Undyne... what is the meaning of this?"
"We got a lot ta explain ta ya Asgore, but this woman? Angel Terians, she ain't yer enemy." Sans' magic pulsed brightly to show that he meant business. "Ya ain't gonna believe us for a bit, I'm sure. But ya gotta listen ta everythin' that we, 'n her, gotta say."
Asgore narrowed his eyes at that. His raging eyes like that of burning rubies focused in on myself, but then back to Sans who took a step in front of me as a show that he would protect me, and that was the last thing Asgore needed in the middle of all this mess. Letting out a deep breath, he watched on, but his gaze returned to his judge.
"Very well. Go on."
"Its fuckin' insane Asgore..." Undyne started in while she looked betweenherself and me, then back to her king. The look in her eyes was determined, and confused. "We're living again. We've already lived this life. We all were once on the surface, we lived happily and had families... and I don't know why we're here again... Sans can explain it better than me."
"This is an alternate universe ta one where we've met each otherbefore." Sans didn't move at all while he was explaining this to Asgore. Worried he might move against me, we couldn't have that happen. "Her soul merged with mine cuz we were married in the other universe. Had kids tagether. What I can assume due ta evidenceis that somethin' different happened this time around ta make this timeline differentfrom the other where we were all happy 'n shit, n' this lead ta what's happening now."
Asgore carefully listened to this information before his gaze turned to me very slowly. He approachedon his large feet until he stood directly over us and leaned down to look at me past that of Sans' barrier. "And what, pray tell, was different?"
"My sister and I were separated... and she met and merged with the deceased spirit of your daughter, Chara."
I didn't dare speak another word, knowing that that much information alone would cause fury to Asgore. He cared deeply for his family, and I'm sure he wasn't appreciative to me speaking her name, especiallywhere he had no chances to heal the wounds he had compared to his previous life.
And I was right. The king narrowed his eyes in on me. His own magic towering himself over Sans to look at me nose to nose while his eyes were bloodshot in an instant with the irritation. He honestly looked about mad in those moments. His entire body swarmed me in, as if Sans wasn't even attached to me when I gripped his hand tightly, hidden by the cape.
I couldn't see the others, I couldn't escape.
"And what do you know of my daughter?"
"I know, your majesty, that she died with deep hatred in her heart. She and your son, Asriel, died far too soon for her personal act of vengeance." I didn't waver for a moment as I stood there before him. "She killed herself by eating the yellow flower roots in your garden. She had Asriel take her soul and merge the two together in order to kill that of her abusive family on the surface. She only partially completed her goal before her and Asriel competed for control of the single body and were harmed, severely. They only made it back to the mountain in time for Asriel to turn to dust and her soul to shatter. Your wife, Queen Toriel left you as you became enraged with the humans above for taking your children from you, the hope for you and your people. And with what pieces of your children were left behind, you attempted to use the scientific knowledge of Dr. Alphys Chordata to bring them back. Using the yellow flowers of your garden, you made some creature that was similar to your son for a moment, before it turned aggressive and escaped. You now have no idea where he is."
Taking a moment to breathe while Asgore absorbed the information, the male still looked down intently at me. However, some of those details resonated with him. He pulled back from me, Sans instantly diving before me the second Asgore did so with magic glowing from his good eye. Undyne also stood before me, though while she never drew her weapon or cast her magic, she still put her body between us.
Asgore still never let his eyes stray from mine, but there was a disturbed look to him as he watched me.
"...How do you know so much?"
"Many of these pieces of information you told me yourself in the other timeline. I can recall them if I think hard enough. Some of it I found out from your son."
Asgore pulled back on the aggression, though his eyes still narrowed as he looked to me for more information. "What became of him in this... 'other timeline'?"
"Using technology that Sans and Alphys created together, they made a clone of my soul, a spark, to give to him and turned him back into a living creature." I struggled not to get lost in the memories when I thought back to those days, where we all escaped, where we lived, finally free. "Giving him that spark sent out a surge of powerful energy that shattered the barrier around the kingdom, and then you were free to walk the surface. I was-am, I am part of the Terians house above, and was the one to help integrate the underground people into human society above ground. He later on married my sister and he took over the kingdom. They had three children that carried on your legacy."
The king watched me carefully. I had no idea if he believed me or not, but the look on his face made me think... he might have. It softened, even just a tiny bit.
"Tell me one last thing... did... Toriel ever forgive me?"
That question should have shocked me. It should have forced me to take a step back and gawk at him. I should have had more of a reaction for what kind of heavy burden he put on me. But... this was a question that had been handled already in the past, though worded differently.
"It's not Toriel who needs to forgive you." It was so hard not to shake my head as I delivered the news to a good friend once more. "It was youwho had to decide if you could forgive her, for abandoning both you, and your people at its weakest moment. And while you did, it wasn't without consequence. Toriel was stripped of her royal status, and she was allowed to live in the castle only until Asriel became of age before she was to find her own home and job. She finished out her days as a school teacher for all species of children. Her focus was on those in teen years as a counselor and history teacher. She used her experiences in the past life to tell others of how she screwed up, and while they should fight for what they believe in, be weary of consequences and what should be expected should things go south."
And that was the final snap of what the king had left. A muscle might have cracked, or some other muscle or item, but the sound echoed, and the king fell to his knees. Gone was the ferocious face that once faced me for answer, replaced with that of a suffering man, who once more had to relive the pain and suffering he struggled with for years. The tears streamed down his face while his eyes were lost. It was evident the memories were coming to him, and he needed time to handle the overload of the last life merging with his old one.
"He'll... need a minute." I gently rubbed the back of Sans who still stood before me, even as our king was out of it. "Darling... it's okay. You know that."
"I know Precious." A heated breath left him before he turned back to face me. His magic dimmed so that I could see his two eye lights and Undyne relaxed her stance as well. "What'd ya want ta do next?"
"The best bet is we need anyone we can on our side to try and stop Chara, and with Toriel most likely gone or missing, and her father running the kingdom, that only leaves one person. Asriel."
"Ya gonna go find 'em?" Undyne gruffly asked.
"It would be better if Sans and I went. We need most of the guard and jury here to protect the citizens until we can get the only person who can most likely stop Chara." The thought brought an ill feeling to my chest, but there was no time to dwell on sentiments or past horrors. "Her brother would be the only one to remember what happened, and speak sense to her to at least get her to stop. She also has killed so many people... I don't know if even we can let her live after all this..."
"But she's attached to Frisk!" Undyne snapped quickly at that remark. "Ya can't tell me your gonna kill your own sister?!"
I narrowed my eyes at the woman and she jumped at that. The annoyed hiss that came from me was slow and cold. "Trust me, that's the last thing I want. If I could pull her soul from Chara's to me where I'm stronger and have other souls to keep her from taking control, I think that would be the best outcome... but I don't even know if that's possible..."
Sans sighed at that. "Welp… when ya wanna head out, Angel? He's most likely in the ruins right?"
"That's where I saw him in the beginning. Or here in the capitol." I paused, thinking about the past and thinking back to what knowledge I had of his constant locations in the underground. "From one of the few times I talked to our parents… they often noted they kept him at bay. They may be able to help us locate him."
"Well, ya better work on that." With that said, Undyne pulled back her helmet from under her arm to put back on her head. "You two work on that. I need to help other evacuees get to the capitol and if I run into Frisk… I'll… do my best to keep her at bay."
I frowned at that. "Undyne… "
Granted I couldn't say anything at the time. It didn't matter my or any of our feelings in those moments. We had duties to do, lives to save, protecting them from Chara, and that also meant that we may have to put strong people before her. It may hold her back while we work on things in the background.
Knowing all that in mind, I held my tongue about asking her to stay. Telling Undyne that she shouldn't go just due to me not wanting her to. Nothing I could say would stop her. Neither should anyone.
With a deep sigh, I stepped away from Sans for just a moment to hug her. I hoped she felt the warmth from me from under all that armor. "Good luck, be safe."
"You too, dork."
A tight hug was given back, almost crushing me if it wasn't for the constant chains that circled my being. Undyne pulled back then, gave a quick hug to Sans as well before she marched out of the room. I could hear her barking out orders to keep the others outside while we tended to the king.
"Darling, while we wait for the king to come to, it would probably be best to gather the jury. Once we make sure they're updated on what's going on, I'll see if my parents or your dad can tell me anything about the location of Asriel so we can assist him. Do you think you can also whip up another one of those machines used in the last life to make a copy of my soul?"
I got a singular nod from him. "I'll get right on it, Precious."
Witch's Note:
Yikes, what a scary situation! How long did any of you think Angel would actually have to fight Asgore? Someone who she was very close to before? And yet, her words hit deeper cords then anyone could ever do with the man. She'd spent much time with him for years in the past dealing with the problems he presented. We all know.
But they made it past this horrible set up, and now they're preparing to look for Asriel… and Undyne is going to hold Chara off…
I can only imagine how you all feel at that.
But let's hop over to reviews!
Thechaosmaster: I'm finally glad that everyone gets to see that part of Chara that I've been hiding since the beginning. Broken would be appropriate for her, and she's acting in response to being broken. But she's not innocent. And she's very aware of it.
But we'll have to see how she moves forward, because it seems like she won't change her ways…
MysticBoywastaken: I'm so glad you like the way she is! I've been working on her so carefully this story. I've been so eager to show off this side of her to everyone and see what happens as everyone now remembers what's happened in the last life. And even Chara has seen Frisk's memories…
So there's still so much to play out.
Shadow8Phantom: As always Shadow, always spot on. While some people perhaps feel sorry for Chara, it doesn't excuse what she's done. Nor what she's doing and the fact that she won't stop. We'll have to see what happens as things keep going forward, but who's to know at this point?
midnightwreken: Its lovely to see you again Midnight! And your idea of a redemption has been noted once before. Chaos would have been the one to say it, sadly, we're not far enough into the story to see if that's a possibility or not. But I can see your point. Time will only tell if she gets that chance, or if she's willing to take that chance. Because we're at a point where she won't take it.
But adding OC characters is always fun. Angel is an OC character, but so are many of the characters I've made throughout the series. I always loved Undertale. A game we all love, but you can only have so many characters before the game gets too big. A story fit better to have all the characters we had… though it would be interesting to see my story as a game… man would it be long…
But as for Chara… we still have another nine chapters to go. Perhaps she may change? Or she maybe will not. We shall see.
But here is another chapter done! And next week… oh I'm not looking forward to it…
Mystic Girl: Why not? Is something bad in the next one?
Me: Of course there is. Next person on the chopping is a going.
Mystic Girl: O-oh no… oh no, oh no, oh no!
Me: Yeah…
Love you all and see you next week.
