After the 'incident' things seemed to go back to normal for the most part, though there was both a noticeable relief and tension in the air. The relief being that Rose was going to stay human forever, there was no longer the worry about her turning into a vampire. The tension, well that was mostly between Rose and Benny, after their half-naked encounter during Rose's test, something seemed different between them. Before either of them knew it several weeks had passed and they were both on their way back home to Whitechapel to start the next year of school. The two were unusually silent on the ride to the airport and on the flight home, the first time they made eye contact was when they said goodbye before going to their respective houses.

"Benny" Rose looked up at him, her face showing ever so slightly the internal struggle that she was having. While neither of them had really brought up what happened after that night, it was clear they had both thought about it while trying to act normal.

"Yeah"

"Are we okay?" the words fell out with a hint of panic.

Benny exaggeratedly exhaled "yeah of course we are, why?"

Rose couldn't tell if he was being serious or not "because...well never mind, it's been a long day I better go to bed." With that she turned on her heels and started to walk away, swallowing back tears that were forming. She was being dramatic, she knew she was but she couldn't help but feel that Benny was treating her differently. Ever since that night, he didn't look at her the same, the constant casual flirting that she was so accustomed to had become less frequent and he never quite met her eyes the same way. She couldn't blame him, she tricked him and tried to bite him. She had got on top of him half naked, kissed his body, called him stupid, and almost killed him, of course he wouldn't see her the same way. They had always been comfortable around each other even in their underwear, but after that something shifted and they didn't do that anymore.

"Rose!" Benny called from behind her and she turned around slightly, "I'll see you tomorrow."

Benny had spent the next couple of weeks trying to keep his composure. He had been driving himself crazy since the 'incident', trying to give Rose space but keep things normal. All he wanted to do was comfort her but he knew she was struggling with what happened and he wanted to give her space. He still walked her to school everyday and while they had started to act more normal than the prior few weeks things were still strained. So much so that even Erica had noticed and Erica never noticed anyone but herself or her next meal. After the whole green mist killing vampires thing, Erica had been a little nicer to them, only a little.

Rose said goodbye to Ethan, Benny, and Sarah who were all standing around their lockers when Erica appeared. "What did you do to her dork? She said, raising an eyebrow, her sudden appearance causing Benny and Ethan to jump.

"What makes you think I did something?" Benny looked offended.

Erica crossed her arm and gave him a look that simply said she did not believe him "well for starters your girlfriend only seems upset when she's around you."

Benny's heart pounded "she's-she's not my girlfriend."

"Really? Could have fooled me."

"Wait" Ethan said, pausing for a moment "she has been acting weird since you both came back from your vacation in France, did something happen there?"

Benny tried not to look suspicious, he hasn't mentioned what happened with Rose to anyone, not even Ethan. He figured that was not his story to tell and if she wanted someone to know she would tell them herself.

"Wait" Erica exclaimed looking at him with a new found curiosity "you two when on vacation together to France? The country of love, alone?"

"Uhh..I mean we stayed at her grandparent's house."

A grin spread across Erica's face and she leaned in a little closer to the group, whispering "did you two…do it?"

"Do what?"

"Sleep together idiot"

"They sleep together all the time, I think she's seen Benny in his underwear more than his grandma has" Ethan offered.

"Ethan that's not what-" Sarah started.

Erica interjected "did you two have sex? If it was bad maybe that's why she is upset"

Benny nearly choked on his own spit, he coughed trying to regain his composure realizing everyone was staring at him waiting for his answer. The idea seemed crazy to him, of course he had thought about them having sex especially one those nights they spent together but he always felt bad about those thoughts. He knew Rose didn't think of him like that, he was her best friend and she trusted him so much that she let him see her in her underwear and even sleep in the bed with her. If she knew about some of his thoughts, however normal they would be for any teenage boy in his situation, he knew that would be the thing that would ruin their friendship.

"Earth to Benny" Sarah snapped her fingers in front of his face bringing him back to reality.

He thought about saying something smooth like I don't kiss and tell but he decided to be serious for once "no we didn't, it's not like that."

Erica narrowed her eyes again "you sure she doesn't want it to be like that? I mean any idiot can tell you two dorks like each other, I thought you were already dating."

Benny paused, did people really think they were a thing, "really?" he couldn't help but flash an excited grin albeit brief.

Erica rolled her eyes and grabbed the back of the shirt of a boy passing by, "hey who is Benny Weir dating?"

He looked puzzled and very surprised, "uhh…Rose Mitchell"

With that Erica tossed him to the side before looking back at Benny "told you."

Before Benny had time to respond the bell went off indicating it was time for class to start. They said their goodbyes but before Benny could turn away Sarah stopped him "I think you should talk to her, whatever is going on between you two it can't be that bad." Benny gave a half smile "listen I know this weirdness is not easy for her either, even if you two aren't a couple. Sometimes getting everything out in the open and talking about it makes it better."

"Thanks Sarah" Benny said a little more brightly "I'll talk to her after class." Sarah smiled and walked away and Benny caught up with Ethan. He figured he would find her after Mr. G's class but to his surprise there was a new smoking hot substitute teacher there instead.

The rest of the day seemed pretty normal for Rose,until it was time to go home. Normally Benny would meet her outside and they would walk home together since they lived next to each other but he was nowhere to be found. After she waited for a few minutes, she decided that he blew her off and she would just walk home on her own. That night she kept looking over at Benny's window and she could see him moving around but he didn't seem to want to talk to her so she didn't push it. The next morning when he didn't give her the morning window greeting that he had been doing for the past year, she swallowed the knot in her stomach and decided she was going to talk to him. She left a little earlier than normal so she could catch him as he left his house. She was surprised to see him sprint out of the front door, his hands filled with that looked like gold jewellery.

"Benny" she called as he sprinted right past her like she didn't exist, her nervousness turning into annoyance.

"Can't talk, I must bring gold to my queen" he called, never looking back.

By the time Rose made it to school, she had gone through all the emotions. She was hurt that Benny ignored her, she was a little jealous that he did so for someone he was calling his queen, and finally she landed on suspicion because this was Whitechapel after all. They looked around for him after her first class but no luck until she heard a weird chanting coming from the stairs around the corner. She walked around and saw an entire class of boys, Ethan and Benny included, walking down the stairs with their shirts off. They had a weird symbol painted in red on their chests and were chanting. Mr. G was leading them towards the new substitute teacher, a crystal skull held out in his hand. She walked over to where Erica and Sarah were standing a few feet behind the sub, the group of boys stopping in front of her. Rose tried to make eye contact with Benny but he was mesmerized by the woman, no surprise there she thought to herself.

The sub, Lucia, said "who among you is worthy to be my chosen one?" The boys went crazy, each demanding they should be chosen including Benny.

After the boys left continuing their chant down the hall, Sarah pointed out that Lucia was making the sun stronger, which was heating up the Earth. "We need a plan" Sarah said turning to Rose and Erica "what would Ethan and Benny do?"

Erica scoffed "why think like nerdlings when we can kick butt like vampires" she paused and looked at Rose "and witches" she smirked before walking off.

"So I guess that means we're just going to barge in and kick her butt?" Rose asked Sarah. Sarah just shrugged and the two followed after Erica to Mr. G's classroom where Lucia and the boys were. That plan was a disaster, Benny and the rest of the boys were clearly under some sort of spell and they wouldn't let girls get anywhere near Lucia or her crystal skull without someone getting hurt. After eventually turning to Benny's grandma for advice they learned that Lucia was going to summon the sun god to destroy the world and the boys were going to be her first sacrifice. They also learned that Lucia's weakness was the moon goddess and luckily for them Ethan had a stash of moon rocks under his pillow.

After collecting everything they needed, the girls got changed into leather biker outfits, Erica said they needed to look hot while kicking butt. They made it to the school just as the ritual was starting, Rose stood at the classroom door as Erica and Sarah blacked out the classroom windows. "Ready?" Sarah said, causing Rose to jump, she had forgotten how fast vampire's were.

"Born ready" they stormed in, Rose stood back a little as Erica and Sarah pulverized the boys that tried to stop them. Rose got in a few good swings and kicks but she let the other two take care of most of the fighting. She noticed Ethan was tied up and Lucia had broken the window allowing the light to come back in and the ceremony to continue. She stepped forward ready to help him when Rory and Benny stood in front of her.

"You girls look hot, too bad we'll have to totally destroy you" Benny said smirking.

Erica stepped forward blasting Rory with a moonstone to the face, breaking the trance. Sarah approached Benny when Rose spoke up, "I'll take care of him." Sarah tried to hand her the moonstone but Rose waved her away "save Ethan, I don't need a moonstone for this one."

Rose and Benny stared at each other for a moment before Benny dove at her trying to grab her. SMACK, the sound of Rose's hand making contact with Benny's face was deafening. He looked momentarily stunned, Rose grabbed his face forcing him to make eye contact with her. "Look at me Benny" she half yelled, he struggled a little causing her grip to only tighten on his face. "Look me in the eyes and tell me that you want to kill me."

Benny blinked, "I-of course not-" his eyes started focusing, the trance breaking. "What happened?" he asked confused partially because he didn't know where he was or how he got there. He was also confused by the fact that the last thing he remembered Rose was avoiding him and now all of a sudden she was holding his face and making extreme eye contact.

"You were under the spell of an ancient queen and tried to help her destroy the world." Rose said matter of factly "you also tried to kill me."

Benny was really confused now but the only thing he could think to say was "so we're even now."

Rose let go of his face and started laughing "not even close."
