"Hey Tucker, you ready for the date?" Danny asked as he floated into Tucker's room, landing softly on the ground and phased into Fenton. Danny was currently wearing black pants and a blue button-up shirt, similar to his eye color. What Tucker couldn't see was the upgraded Spector Deflector as it was hidden in Danny's pocket.
"As ready as I'll ever be. Glad to see your powers are back to normal."
Danny nodded in agreement, "Me too. I mean the antidote tasted disgusting, but I'm just glad to be back to normal."
"Danny, were you nervous? Ya know, for your first date with Sam?" Tucker asked looking at his reflection, taking note of his wrinkle-free white button-up shirt and khakis.
"Scared shitless," Danny said with a smile on his face. "It doesn't matter if you've known her for a week or your whole life, either way, you're gonna be terrified. But don't worry, Sam and I will be there to help you not to make too much of a fool out of yourself."
"Please, if I start rambling again, hit me. Punch me. Shoot an ecto blast at my mouth. I don't care, do whatever you have to to shut me up."
"It'll be fine, Tuck. C'mon, we still have to pick up Sam." Danny said as he transformed to Phantom and flew out of Tucker's window with Tucker. Truthfully, Danny was nervous about this date. Not for the same reason Tucker was, but he was nervous for any surprise attack from Melody. Her conversation didn't ease his worries at all, only heightened them. He just hoped that whatever she was picking up was jewelry or something. Danny was so consumed by his thoughts that he didn't even notice they were already approaching Sam's house.
"Well don't you two look handsome," Sam said as she finished applying mascara. Danny noticed that she was wearing black lace up wrap heels which accentuated her long smooth legs and the green dress from yesterday. He was right, the dress looked amazing on her.
"Easy action, I'm right here," Tucker reminded Danny. "You look great Sam."
Danny cleared his throat, "You look beautiful, Sam."
"Thanks, guys. Are we ready for this?" Sam asked looking more at Tucker to answer.
"Yep. I've already told Danny that if I start rambling, to stop me. So please don't kill me with those heels, they look killer," Tucker joked.
"The better to stake someone with," Sam said nonchalantly. Tucker gave a nervous laugh not sure if she was joking or not. He hoped she was joking. He looked over at Danny who quickly shook his head as if to answer his question. Tucker gulped.
"I knew that dress would look amazing on you!" Melody mentioned over dinner. "Oh, Tucker it was the funniest thing. Sam and I were at the mall at the same time and just ended up shopping together. Danny don't you agree? Doesn't she look amazing?"
Danny gave a tight smile, "Yeah she does. So Melody, what school do you go to?"
"Oh, I'm homeschooled. My uncle teaches me. Being an only child, it's pretty easy to convince your parents for anything really -"
"I thought you said you had a younger brother?" Tucker interrupted.
Melody flushed. She had forgotten that piece of her fake story. "Oh right, sorry. I just figured I would say little brother instead of me since I was a little embarrassed interrupting the first time we met," She chuckled under her breath. She quickly grabbed Tucker's hand and rubbed her thumb on his hand for reassurance. Tucker seemed to accept this answer, but Danny and Sam nudged each other under the table at her slip-up.
"Your uncle must be pretty smart then. What does he do?" Sam asked.
"He's uh somewhere in the science field," Melody coughed out.
"Oh really, what's his specialty? My parents are also scientists," Danny nudged further. Tucker looked over at his friends suspiciously.
"Uh, I'm not entirely sure…" Melody trailed off. As if a silent savior, her phone started ringing. "Oh sorry, I should take this," She said quickly as she ran to the restroom.
"Why does this feel like a job interview?" Tucker asked his friends.
"I mean isn't a first date like an interview? Especially when you're double dating," Sam said as she took a sip of her water.
"Kind of feels like you guys are trying to get at something," Tucker said raising his eyebrows. He noticed Sam and Danny stole a quick glance at each other, and he about burst. "I knew it! You guys spied on her yesterday. I mean really, Sam just happened to be at the mall at the exact time Melody was!"
"Tucker, there's a lot that you don't know -" Danny started.
"Oh, I know enough. I know my best friends decided to go behind my back to spy on a girl that I like. Is this why you were angry with me yesterday? What is it about Melody that you guys don't trust?!"
"Tucker, Melody isn't who you think -" Sam tried but was interrupted like Danny was.
"Yeah, and neither are you guys. Haven't you two learned that spying will just hurt people?! What, you two are the only ones who can be in a relationship?"
"Tucker shut up and listen to us," Danny snarled.
Tucker got up from his seat and threw his napkin on the table. "Nah, I'm done listening. You two are the worst-" Tucker was cut off by an electric blast thrown in their direction. They scrambled under the table as other patrons screamed and ran out of the restaurant. Danny quickly turned into Phantom, phased through the table, and faced off with Melody.
"I had a feeling you two were catching on," She snapped, throwing another electric ball at him.
"Well with as many mistakes you made, it was pretty easy," Danny commented as he did a backhand spring to dodge the attack.
"I had him fooled," Melody said, pointing over to Tucker who physically deflated at that comment.
"So, you didn't actually like me? You were just using me?" Tucker asked quietly.
"Don't get me wrong, you were a fun little side quest, but he was the main journey," Melody confirmed, pointing at Danny.
"Bitch," Sam said under her breath.
"What do you get from all of this?" Danny asked. Suddenly, he was shot in the back by an ecto blast. He landed hard on the table, face-planting on the napkin Tucker placed earlier. He shakily turned back to see that it was an older man, floating in the air behind him.
"It served as a successful distraction. You were too hung up on finding out the truth about my niece over here, that you didn't focus on the big picture," The Scientist claimed.
"Oh, so you're the Scientist. Do I get a name or do I give you one?" Danny mocked as he shot his own ecto blast at him. The ecto blast shot the Scientist right in the gut, making him crouch over grabbing his stomach.
"I see you have full control over your powers," He grunted.
"Lucky me to have scientists as parents," Danny spat as he prepared an ice attack, but was held back as he felt electric chains surround him. He looked over to his friends to see that they were caught in electric chains as well. "Why are you two coming after me? What do you get from it?"
"Danny, Danny, Danny…" The Scientist mocked as he floated closer to him. "You must've known that revealing your secret identity would bring out a certain group of people who aspired to hold the level of power that you've gained. It'd be one thing if you were born with them. But a freak accident? How are you special enough to be part human and part ghost?"
"So that got me thinking. A freak accident. Surely, I can replicate the powers without needing to go through extreme measures. I'm lucky enough to have my beautiful niece agree with me on such matters. So we got to thinking. If we could get a blood sample, surely we can figure out the component of ectoplasm and blood, understand the makeup, replicate the powers and you get this," the Scientist referred to himself.
"So that's why my ghost sense was off and on any time Melody was around. It wouldn't go off when it was just her, but if it was her alter ego…How did she get those powers anyway?"
"This snazzy little bracelet holds the electric powers. Ever seen The Amazing Spiderman? Not all powers are natural," Melody stated. She then turned over to Sam and Tucker and gave them an evil smirk, "But they still hurt the same."
