Prompt: "Tell me something I don't know already."
"That's a dangerous statement for there are many things you do not know, and there are even more things which should be kept secret."
"You're annoyingly cryptic, old man."
"I try."
"Ms. York, have you seen…"
"To your left, Jenkins. And, once again, it's Ra."
The man didn't get more than a hum of acknowledgement out before Colonel Baird barged into his workshop, causing both of the room's occupants to look at her expectantly. "Jenkins, stay out…"
Ra just scoffed as the Guardian took in the space. Jenkins seemed proud of her speechlessness. "Marvelous, isn't it? I told you, this is where I do my research. Judson always insisted that we just lock the artifacts away. But I experiment on them, study them, and improve them."
"And Ra helps you?"
The Archivist shrugged slightly as she reached for a pair of pliers. "From time to time. I am in charge of the artifacts, after all."
She could feel Baird's calculated look on her back before the Guardian spoke again. "Fine, but Jenkins, it's hard enough to rein them in without you dangling that clippings book in front of them."
This caused Ra to turn a furrowed brow in Baird's direction. "Why rein them in? You've got to put them in the field sooner or later. Hell, I had only been at the Library twenty minutes when Judson was pushing Flynn to take me with him to get the Seal of King Solomon."
Baird sighed. "Loo, I've gone into the field with experienced soldiers, a good plan, good intel, and still came home with nothing but dog tags. I'm talking soldiers with training who've seen combat. These three, I promised Flynn I'd keep them alive. They're not even close to ready."
Ra rolled her eyes as she crossed her arms. And we appreciate you wanting to keep them out of harm's way. But librarians exist to keep magic out of the wrong hands. Their job is literally to be in harm's way."
"I can't protect three of them al once and they can't take care of themselves, not without a lot mor training."
The Archivist groaned as Jenkins took over. "We used to put librarians in the field with no training at all."
"Oh, yeah? And how many came back?"
"The best ones."
Ra chuckled at that. "Tell me something we don't know already."
Jenkins gave her a calculated look as Baird threw her hands up in the air and walked back out of the room. "That's a dangerous statement. For there are many things that you do not know, and there are even more things which should be kept secret."
"You are annoyingly cryptic as per usual, old man."
"I try."
