Sweet and Dark Heart: Chapter 9

Natsuki's father went into the kitchen, grumbling as he took out some chicken katsu with shrimp fried rice from the fridge which was made by Natsuki. He sported a bandage around his nose due to Natsuki's breaking it yesterday. Figuring she'd get some dinner too, Natsuki headed downstairs, crouching down as usual to get through the doorway due to her size. Natsuki smirked after seeing her father take the food out of the microwave and nearly drop it after turning around to see Natsuki. Mr. Himoto, once fierce and fear-instilling was now terrified and fearful.

"O-O-Oh! Hello Natsuki…didn't know you were home…" Natsuki's father said, fear evident in his voice and expression as Natsuki's expression hardened.

"Yeah, well I don't need to tell you anything, do I?" Natsuki asked.

"No, certainly not!" Natsuki's father said, as he went over to the kitchen table and ate quietly.

Letting out a scoff, Natsuki takes out some food of her own before sitting down to eat, sitting down right next to her father. This was something that Natsuki had never done before and she moved very close, making sure to invade her father's personal space.

"You don't mind me sitting so close? Do you?" Natsuki asked as she looked down at her father with a smirk, but not a playful one, a condescending one.

"I…I mean, why are you so close…?" Natsuki's father asked, looking at her with apprehension as then turned to continue eating fearfully.

"Why? Because this is my way of showing you that I'm in charge of this house now, you worm. I'm not afraid of you anymore." Natsuki said with a sneer.

"But…I'm the father here and—" Natsuki's father said before she cut him off.

"A father? Pfft, you weren't a father then or now; it's exactly why I put you in your place yesterday. You're not a real man, you're a disgrace. You're beneath everyone. Now shut up and eat your food." Natsuki said.

Natsuki's father regained a little bit of his fierce bravado, to attempt feebly to speak up against his giant of a daughter.

"Now you listen here, you oversized brat! Who was the one who broke my nose yesterday?" Natsuki's father said, with Natsuki's expression darkening.

"Who was the one who deserved that punch in the nose and that slap in the face after trashing my room and messing with that beautiful poem?! Ah, of course, it was you." Natsuki said, her voice rising into a near-shout.

"You didn't come downstairs for dinner!" Natsuki's father said, as Natsuki grabbed his throat.

"Listen here, half-pint. You hit me as a child, you are what drove mom away. Be lucky that I don't break every bone in your body. Just watch yourself." Natsuki said coldly, taking her hand off his throat.

Natsuki's words with a terrifying finality that let her father know that she wasn't joking, at all. Figuring that he lost the conversation with trying to get through to Natsuki, the father continued to eat his food with his daughter looming next to him, the raw power that exuded off of her was frightening and terrifying. After some tense minutes, he finished eating and hurried to his room. Chuckling to herself, Natsuki finished eating her food and headed upstairs to unwind.

Changing into her pajamas, Natsuki laid down on the bed, looking at the ceiling and thinking of how wonderful today was at school.

'Today was really great…introducing John to my favorite manga and having him sleep on my shoulder…it was intoxicating. I want that to happen again and again…moments where he's close to me and he knows just how important he is to me.' Natsuki thought to herself as she put her blanket over herself and went to sleep.

- Friday Morning, 10 A.M. –

As usual, John left his house as usual and chatted with Sayori. Once they reached school, they said their goodbyes and headed to their classes. After classes, as usual, John headed to the Literature Club, eager for the meeting.

Once inside, all of the girls were there with Monika, who was just about to begin discussing the school club festival.

"Hey John! Perfect timing, I was just telling the other girls about next week Friday, since the school club festival is coming up!" Monika said as John sat down in-between Sayori and Natsuki, since none of them have assigned seats.

"Yeah? Oh nice, Sayori told me about it the other day but I never was too interested in it since I'm not the most social person…" John said sheepishly.

Natsuki's breath hitched as John sat to her left, after all, having John within arm's length was intoxicating to her, but she tried to keep a level head as much as possible; trying to keep up her tsundere façade. Yuri on the other hand, hearing what John said, sparked a moment of understanding and empathy within the shy and reserved Yuri. After all, given how she is, Yuri knew all too well about not gathering the courage to talk to too many people or to really speak up even around friends – unless it was something she was passionate about of course.

"Oh come on, talking to people is easy!" Natsuki said with her usual feistiness as Monika chuckled.

"Maybe for some of us; but Yuri and to a degree, John, aren't as social! But that's okay, it's why we're a club! So we'll be doing flyers, banners and cupcakes to draw the attention of people! Who wants to do what?" Monika asked.

"I'll do flyers, they'll look super pretty!" Sayori said cheerfully as Monika nodded.

"I'll work on the banners." Yuri said calmly.

"Alright, let's see…so John, with Yuri doing about…twenty intricate banners, Sayori doing three hundred flyers and Natsuki doing three hundred cupcakes, one of them can use some help. So who do you want to help out? I'll lend a hand to whoever needs it the most, but I wanted you to choose first, John!" Monika said warmly as Natsuki glanced over at John with an intense stare.

'It would be nicer to get close to Natsuki…' John thought to himself.

Unbeknownst to everyone, Natsuki's heart was racing due to John possibly spending time with her, outside of the Literature Club.

'Pick me…pick me John. We'll have fun.' Natsuki thought to herself.
