In early July, the day after Jaakko and Lena celebrated their first wedding anniversary, their lives changed forever. Lena had gone into labor the previous night, and by morning, they were at a hospital in Seattle, ready to welcome their twins into the world. The couple had chosen Seattle over Watery for its better medical facilities, knowing it would give their babies the best possible start.
After hours of labor, Lena finally delivered two healthy babies—a boy and a girl. Jaakko stood by her side, overwhelmed with emotion as he held his children for the first time. The boy had a head of dark blond hair like his father, while the girl's features mirrored Lena's gentle beauty.
"They're perfect," Lena whispered, her voice tired but filled with joy.
Jaakko nodded, tears streaming down his face as he gazed at his family. "Yeah, they are."
Later, as they sat together in the hospital room, cradling the newborns, Lena looked up at Jaakko. "What do you think about naming them Charlie and Charlene?"
Jaakko hesitated, glancing between the babies and his wife. "Charlie and Charlene? Don't you think that's a little… similar?"
Lena laughed softly. "Maybe, but I like the way they sound together. Besides, we can always call them Charlie and Lene if it gets confusing."
Jaakko considered this, then nodded. "Okay. Charlie and Charlene it is."
Over the next couple of days, as they adjusted to their new roles as parents, Jaakko found himself growing fond of the names. By the time they returned to Watery with their twins, he couldn't imagine calling them anything else.
Back at the trailer, Ilmo was waiting to welcome them home. His face lit up as he saw his brother carrying the car seats. "There they are! My niece and nephew. Finally, some new recruits for the club."
Jaakko rolled his eyes, laughing. "You're not putting them on bikes, Ilmo."
"Not yet," Ilmo replied with a grin, leaning down to peek at the sleeping babies. "But give it a few years."
The days that followed were filled with sleepless nights and countless diaper changes, but also an overwhelming sense of love and purpose. As Jaakko and Lena settled into their new life as parents, they knew they had a strong support system around them—and a bright future ahead for their growing family.
