Graham is in the bathroom getting dressed, "wowee are you meeting your consular or a date," Ace says, while admiring the shirt and tight jeans he is wearing.
"Maybe a date with my pregnant girl after she gets out of class; that's if she is ok with it."
"Hmmm," she walks around him, making him jump a little bit after squeezing his ass. "Will I be able to let the world know you're all mine?"
"You can do that any day, my heart has been yours for years, my body since we graduated." He turns and lays his hands on her stomach, "now you are carrying my child."
"Maybe down the line I'll have more of your children."
"After you have your dream job maybe?"
"You really want me to live out my dream don't you?"
"You make me happy in every way and understand that I need to leave school."
"Are you hurt from your argument with Sarah Jane?"
"Yes, I'm glad you wanted to spend a few days talking to your mom and getting to see Steven."
"I wish I was there to stand up for you."
"I wouldn't want you to get too worked up," he rubs her stomach.
"Already looking out for the both of us, huh?"
"Of course. It's my job, make sure everyone is well and safe."
"At least everyone in this house took it well to you not staying in school."
"That is also good, since we live here. As much as I want to keep talking to you, I have to make it to my appointment. I love you." He gives her a quick kiss before walking out of the bathroom.
As he shuts the door Nyssa walks out of her bedroom dressed for her lecture in Chemistry 400, her track. As she passes the bedroom with the door open to the bathroom she sees Ace when she bends over to empty her empty stomach. Nyssa moves closer to help her friend. Eyes go wide as Ace sits up with her hand moving to her stomach her friend's words make way to her ears, "Mommy hasn't had anything to eat yet," Nyssa slowly backs up and keeps walking backwards until she is out the door.
"She's pregnant," Nyssa ponders to no one. The rest of the day Nyssa can't pay attention after accidentally finding out her friend is pregnant and hasn't told anyone yet. She wonders how she is going to talk to them about it when she receives a text from Tegan saying that she and Mel are going to the library to study.
Around 2 in the afternoon Ace and Graham meet at a local cafè. "How did it go," Ace asks him as they sit down.
"I have to fill out some paperwork since I am dropping out midterm."
"How much paperwork?
"Not much, I got it in the car."
"Do you want some help with them?"
"Maybe just read them over after I am done."
"I can do that, anything else?"
"Just be yourself," he doesn't know what her mind is doing. "What does the baby want to eat?"
"She wants a sandwich with extra pickles."
"What kind of sandwich?"
"Turkey, Bacon, and avocado."
"On it, what do you want to drink?"
"Some water." Graham kisses her real quick before heading up to order. A few minutes later Graham comes back with their drinks. "I have a doctor's appointment next week."
"Can I come, is it for the baby?"
"Yes it's for the baby, will we be able to see her?"
"We should be able to see her."
"I can't wait," Ace smiles as Graham's eyes shine. After they finish their food Graham walks Ace to her car, "I'll see you at home, love you. I am going home to fill out the paperwork and finish the job applications for districts near us."
"Have fun, I need to get to my business 102 class, love you."
"I love you too," she smiles and shakes her head as he just said that getting into her car before driving off. Whistling into the house not knowing he has company at the door.
"Graham." He stops when he sees the brunette.
"Aunt Sarah?"
"We need to talk."
"Are you still disappointed in me?"
"Graham," she sighs.
"This is the best decision for me."
"Did Ace know about it?"
"I told her the night before Steven was born. We had hours to talk and we talked about a lot that we haven't had time to because our class schedules were different."
"And she was getting sick a lot."
"Yeah, she's better now," Graham and Ace need to go to the next scan and see the baby.
"Graham, please just hear me out."
"I was failing all my classes and I just scraped by last semester. I don't want those to follow me around. Or if Ace and I get married and she surpasses her dreams to be a Philanthropist and she somehow made enemies and they bring up the fact her husband flunked out of college during his first year."
"So it's because of."
"No, when I first told Ace what I was planning to do she wasn't happy with me, but after I told her what was going on, she understood. Why can't you?"
"I can, I just."
"What, you think that I'll be just like my Dad if I don't finish school."
"What, no. Your heart is too pure for that."
"Then what's your issue?"
"I want you to be happy."
"I am happy, for the last few months I had only been happy when I was in my home sometimes with Ace, sometimes with Tegan, Nyssa or Mel, but whenever I was doing my school work I was miserable."
"How miserable?"
"I almost called my old therapist."
"You were that bad?"
"Yes, and the moment I told Ace what was going on it was like weight was lifted off my shoulders. I need to fill out my papers to officially drop out, and then my job search for a job as a bus driver."
"You want me to leave?"
"Please, I love you, I do, but you haven't been understanding me." She walks away trying to understand and texts Ace to meet with her after she gets out of her class. Graham walks into the house to find Nyssa sitting on the couch.
"Where's Ace," she asks him.
"She has a few more classes, why?"
"Nothing."
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah, how are you doing?"
"Fine, just in the official process of dropping out."
"How does it make you feel?"
"Like I can breathe again."
"Was everything really that bad?"
"While in classes, yes, but when I wasn't studying and home no."
"I'm glad that all of us here helped you in small ways."
"Me too, I'm going to head to my room to do the paperwork."
That night Ace walks into her bedroom to find Graham relaxing. "I just met with Sarah Jane."
"What?"
"Yeah, she wanted to talk to me about you dropping out."
"What did you say," she lays on the bed next to him and curls into his body.
"That your happiness is the most important thing to me. I wanted to tell her that you want extra money for insurance for when our baby is born. Even though we know she is healthy, I want to wait to tell everyone unless asked after my appointment next week."
"Should we invite everyone for dinner when that happens."
"Yes, I want to tell everyone at once, can you cook for it."
"Why are you asking me; you know I would love to cook dinner for you and our family." He kisses her lightly when there is a knock on their door. "Do you know who all is home?"
"I think just Nyssa, why?"
"She did ask how you were doing this afternoon after my aunt kind of ambushed me at our front door."
"Do you think she'll hate me when she finds out we are having a baby?"
"No, though she might understand why I want to do a few things now, though it's only a small part why I am dropping out."
Another knock, "come in Nyssa," Ace calls out as they sit up.
"The two of you know that you can tell me anything?" She says as she leans against the door.
Looking at Graham and smiling at him, "we know. Though this thing we are waiting for a week until we tell everyone. You would be sworn to secrecy."
"I can keep secrets."
"Nyssa, sit, this will eventually impact you."
"What is it?"
"How would you feel if there was a baby in the house," asks Ace.
"If it belonged to one of us, I would love it."
"Even if that means sometimes less sleep for exams and such," asks Graham.
"Yes of course, and it would explain why Ace has been getting sick for a few months and why this morning the doors were open and I saw Ace hunched over getting sick then her talking to her stomach with her hand over it."
Ace looks at Graham wondering why he forgot the door before he left, then looking back at Nyssa, as she can feel Graham's happiness flowing off him. "Graham, why don't you say something, I can tell you want to."
"Nyssa, you have to promise not to tell anyone, not even Tegan."
"I won't," Nyssa starts bouncing in excitement for her friends.
"Ace and I are expecting a baby."
"Do you know the gender?"
"While I am not far enough for it, I had a few dreams in high school about a daughter."
"That's wonderful," she jumps forward, giving them both a hug. "Wait, am I the first to find out?"
"Yes, I found out officially when Steven was born. Got the test done at the hospital and got the call right as we were heading in to meet him."
"So Steven is going to be an uncle before he turns one."
"I guess so," Ace doesn't have to guess, Nyssa doesn't know the full extent about the dreams she had years ago.
"When are you going to tell everyone about your baby,"
"We are planning to next week after the 12 week scan, that's next week, inviting everyone to dinner here afterwards."
"Can I cook?"
"Sorry Nyssa, but I want to cook."
"I'll help, so have you called your parents and your aunt?" Ace turns to Graham as the door opens. "I should go, that's my girlfriend and your sister."
"Nyssa, please remember not to tell them. I am prepared for Mel's anger." With a nod she walks out.
….
The next week Ace runs into the house to find Graham pacing back and forth. "My class ran late," they rush out and make it just in time. Ace gets weighed and blood drawn.
"So are you ready for your main event," asks her OBGYN.
"Yes," Graham takes Ace's hand as she replies. Graham tries to hold back tears as he sees the baby on the screen.
"We made that Ace."
"From pure love," the OBGYN smiles at the young couple.
"Do you two want pictures?"
"Yes, we are telling our families tonight about our pregnancy. So can we also get a few copies?"
"Well, good luck with that," she prints the pictures then hands them to the young couple, "I am going to let you get dressed and get your paperwork."
"So how do you want to tell everyone, before or after dinner," he asks her.
"During dinner," she kisses him on the cheek before grabbing her clothes. "See something you like," she asks as she sees Graham is watching her.
"Every time I look at you."
"Stop it."
"Never, our baby is going to know what it looks like to have two parents that love her and each other."
…
That night Ace is in the shower as Nyssa and Graham are running around the kitchen. "What is going on, it's just a dinner with both Ace and Graham's families," asks Tegan
"The only time any of them has been here is when Ace and I moved in, I want them to know we live well enough."
"Haven't you been in an argument with your aunt?"
"Yes, but we're still family." As Ace enters the kitchen Graham smiles at her paying close attention to her stomach, thinking he saw something while she was getting dressed after her appointment.
"What," she asks him.
"Nothing, just admiring your beauty," Nyssa laughs, which garners a curious raised eyebrow from Tegan as Mel enters the house.
"Am I late?"
"No you're not, everyone should be arriving soon."
"Good just on time, surprised I am cutting it close and not you Ace."
"She just got out of the shower," Tegan adds pointing at Ace, "and like usual her boyfriend can't keep his eyes off of her.
"There is a reason, that you guys will find out later," says Ace, Nyssa is bouncing on the inside, because she can't wait for everyone to know about the bundle of joy being brought into this house in a number of months. Tegan and Mel see that the table is already set.
After everyone arrives for dinner Sarah Jane takes both Ace and Graham aside, "look I'm sorry for how I had been redacting in the past many weeks." Ace looks at Graham as he was hurt.
"I can't deny I was hurt by it, but thank you for apologizing. I need to go check on dinner." He scatters away Sarah Jane watches after him and sighs.
"Ace, is he ok?"
"He is, we're both just nervous about having both of our families here for a big dinner." Ace walks up behind him hand runs up his back. "Are you ok?"
"Yeah, just want to make sure this recipe is perfect."
"I can assure it is, you are a fabulous cook," she kisses his cheek, he reaches to squeeze one of her hands.
"You're Ace."
"So are you," she smiles before gathering everyone to the table. As Graham joins them all with some food, he is careful to make sure everyone is served to make sure plates stay still as a few of them have different sonograms taped on the bottom. As half of the adults there are under age of 21, no one bats an eye that Ace isn't drinking any alcohol. Once the last person finishes eating, Graham and Ace both clear the voice.
"Are you two ok," asks Zoe.
"We just have something to tell anyone," at that moment a small cry is heard.
"One moment Steven is hungry." Zoe excuses herself to feed her 6 week old. Once she's back she is still holding Steven.
"Mom, can you hand Steven to Nyssa," asks Ace.
"Why?"
"It involves our announcement."
"Okay?" Zoe hands Nyssa the baby. At that moment Ace and Graham silently think the two godmothers will be Mel and Nyssa.
"Mom, Dad, Mel, Sarah Jane, can you all please pick up your plates and tell Tegan and Liam what you see," Ace asks them as Graham's hand moves to Ace's stomach. Plates get picked up and turned over. Zoe and Sarah Jane gasp while Mel screams, making Steven cry; Liam who has helped with a crying Steven a few times rolls his eyes and takes his baby brother from Nyssa.
"My daughter is having a kid of her own," Harry says, back falling hard against the back of his chair," Tegan first turns to Nyssa as she must've known then to Ace and Graham who are now standing, Ace has her shirt up showing a barely visible bump.
Mel jumps up first to give them a hug, "congratulations, how long have you known?"
"For sure right before we walked into the room to meet Steven for the first time."
"So you found out you were pregnant the day your baby brother was born." Harry just states still in shock.
"Dad, are you ok?"
"You're only 19, the same age Audrey was."
"Well it's a good thing I am not like her and I will never be a cheater, hurt or try to sell off my child," Ace says before walking off, everyone in the room staring after her, Graham quickly follows her.
"Ace?"
"I can't believe he just said that," she's trying to hold back tears.
"Me too," he walks closer to her, wrapping her in his arms. "You know I'll never think anything will happen that happened to you when you were growing up. I know your heart is too big and feels too much for that." As he rubs her back in comfort there is a sound of a voice clearing. Ace looks up and detangles herself from Graham's arms.
"Dad?"
"Can we talk?" She nods her head and when Graham doesn't move, "alone, she is my daughter."
"And she's the love of my life pregnant with my child. You just hurt her; if you do that again, I want to be here for her."
"I promise you I won't hurt her again."
"You know what you just did; there is not much worse you can tell her or compare her too."
"Graham," he turns to the voice. "It's fine."
"Are you sure?" She nods at him, making him sigh.
"I am, thank you." He gives her a sad smile and kisses her lightly.
"I will always do this for you." He leaves before shooting a warning look to Harry.
"You have a good man there."
"I know, Dad, why did you compare me to her?"
"I don't know, I was in shock. I know you are not like her and you and Graham are a separate couple."
"Dad, my baby is going to be born out of love, and will always be shown what love looks like. She will have two loving parents, a few aunts and uncles and grandparents."
"I know."
"Dad, are you disappointed?" He gathers her in his arms.
"Of course not, you could never disappoint me. All I want for you is to be happy in life."
"Well, I am happy. Graham is finding a job to make sure she has insurance."
"You know what you are already having?"
"Not for sure, but if my visions from years ago ring true, I am having a little girl."
"Well, you'll make a great Mum."
"Thank you." They head back into the room where everyone celebrates that a new life is about join the family.
