Sirius opened his eyes slowly after they apparated to the station. Apparation always made him feel sick, but he tried not to show it. He dropped his arm from Walburga's and started to place his stuff on one of the luggage carts he found near them.

Sirius felt eyes on them as he walked with his mother, pushing the cart in front of him. While he had chosen to wear muggle clothing, Walburga had kept her robes. Muggles stared as they walked to the entrance to the platform. A little muggle boy pointed at Sirius's owl as they passed.

Sirius looked at his mother when they reached the entrance. "Do I just...?" Walburga sighed. "Walk into the wall." Sirius knew better than to question his mother, so he walked straight at the wall, closing his eyes right before he reached it.

He opened his eyes when he didn't feel the impact of the wall. The station had completely changed, revealing a bunch of wizards and witches with their children. Some of the older students were roaming around, chatting with their friends. Sirius stared at the place in awe.

Sirius felt movement behind him and suddenly his mother was in front of him, scowling. "Hurry up." She said to him. Walburga started to walk through the crowd, which seemed to part in her path. Sirius hurried after her.

Sirius quickly loaded his trunks and owl into the small compartment under the train he had been told to put them in. He avoided the gaze of his mother as he did so. Sirius kept with him a small sack of some money and his wand.

He stood up, still avoiding his mothers gaze, and looked around. The station was still bustling with students and parents. Suddenly, he was grabbed by the collar of his shirt and turned to face his mother. "Look at me when I'm talking to you." She said sternly.

"Sorry, mother." Sirius replied. He shrunk slightly under her gaze. "You will get on that train and you will not talk to the wrong sort. Do you hear me? None of those filthy mudbloods." Sirius nodded. As long as he agreed, he would be off to Hogwarts, where he could talk to "the wrong sort" as much as he liked.

"You will not disappoint this family. You will tell the hat to sort you into Slytherin. Yes?" Sirius nodded. "Yes mother." "Narcissa will be watching you." She released his collar. "Go." Sirius quickly walked to the train without a second glance back at his mother.

Sirius got on the train and searched for an empty compartment, his mind still reeling from what his mother had said. He may be free from her grasp now, but his cousin, Narcissa, will still be watching him. As a Prefect, he knew that she couldn't watch him on the train, but the moment they got to Hogwarts, her eyes would be on him like a hawk.

Sirius walked into the first empty compartment he could find and sat down by the window. He watched as parents and students exchanged their final goodbyes. Some kids, first years he assumed, were crying, while others were embracing their parents one last time. Sirius didn't dare look for his mother, he didn't want to see that cold gaze for as long as possible.

"Hello!" Sirius turned away from the window to see a boy with a mop of brown hair and dark brown eyes behind circular glasses standing in the compartment entrance. "Hi." Sirius replied. The boy sat down. " I'm James. James Potter." He said with a grin. Sirius smiled. He had heard of the Potter's before. One of the pureblood families, whom his parents called blood traitors. What would his mother think of him talking to the boy? Who cares.

"Sirius Black. Nice to meet you." James's eyebrows shot up. "Really? Thought you'd be sitting with the Slytherin's." Sirius shook his head, making a face. "Those idiots? No bloody way. I'd rather eat a slug." James laughed. "Me too."

"Do you two mind? All the compartments are full." Two boys stood in the compartment door. The one who had spoke had short dirty blond hair, blue eyes, and a scar that ran down his face. Sirius made a mental note to ask about that. The other boy was shorter, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a nervous expression on his face. Rat-like, Sirius thought. "Sure, come on in." James replied to them.

The boy who spoke sat down next to Sirius and the other sat next to James. "I'm James Potter, that's Sirius Black." Sirius noticed that neither of the boys reacted to hearing his last name. "Remus Lupin." The boy with the scar said. "Uhh, Peter Pettigrew." The other said with a squeak.
